@YunoboCo @Ham-n-jam Ayyyy well that does it then. No mention of Game Share at the very least for local either? Getting at least 4 people to buy it together just ain’t happening in my circle I’m afraid.
@Ham-n-jam There was a 2 player split screen bit shown (from the looks of it) for the versus race but no 4 player split screen in general or anything for city trial…maybe they just didn’t decide to show it for whatever reason but I can’t see why they would skip over it if it’s in there 🤔
@Druidsbrook Dream Sonic game honestly. Legends and the Ori games are some of the best looking 2D games of all time and set the benchmark years ago, sucks that neither Nintendo with Mario or Sega with Sonic have even attempted to one up them.
@nhSnork Well, sure the PS5 itself is old but that’s with hardware designed to be a home console- Switch 2 is using tech released around the same time in a tablet form. With that in mind it’s no surprise that’s it’s even further behind what is possible on PS5/Series X.
The only way we’ll get full parity for many games is if we see a shift in development priorities and developers make games for Switch 2/lower end PCs first and port up. Not likely but given how expensive making games has become it would make sense for many developers/publishers to go that route. Otherwise we can expect to see Switch 2 ports to largely be inferior in some ways to their counterparts on other platforms, but that really shouldn’t be surprising considering the gulf in power between them. The only other thing to keep in mind is this is very early days and so porting across games designed for much more powerful hardware is inevitably going to come with compromises- as time goes on and Switch 2 is factored into development from the start we should hopefully see its ports become more competitive with releases on other consoles (hopefully!).
Not really a shock. Switch 2 is using a 5 year old chipset at a tenth the power consumption of a PS5…of course cross platform games are going to be compromised.
If there’s a physical version for this then I’ll buy it since I never got a hold of it on Switch originally. That said I’m not really head over heels for a remaster of this game even if it does turn it into what they envisioned originally. I never thought the original was terrible, very flawed but not awful. I’d have preferred them to dedicate the time they’ve put into this into a proper sequel instead.
Hopefully that’s happening either way, but maybe they should have focused on smaller scale games considering how great Impossible Lair was and how comparatively quick it was to get that made.
@BloodWolfe I don’t even know why they’re bothering with a key card release on Switch 2 at all when they can just do the Switch version on one cartridge and then let you upgrade for Switch 2. Just put a banner or something saying “includes Switch 2 upgrade”, everybody wins 🤷♂️
@RupeeClock I’m so baffled as to why they offered a free upgrade to DQ3 but are forcing us to choose between versions for 1/2 with no upgrade at all. Not like we didn’t know it could be done anyway but they just proved it themselves.
Wish Nintendo would have said to publishers from the off that if you’re launching on both platforms you have to offer an upgrade path- paid or free is up to them (obviously free would be better across the board but let’s be realistic 🥴).
I can totally see them re-releasing 3D All Stars with Galaxy 2/maybe 3D Land included with a paid upgrade for those who already own it (and said upgrade won’t be cheap).
My dream announcement (not a Mario game but Mario universe) would be a new Wario Land though. I have to imagine Wario will be in the next movie so tying in that announcement with a new Wario platformer would be perfect. To be honest tapping an esteemed indie developer to make one would be awesome; I hoped after Cadence of Hyrule we’d start to see Nintendo approaching more indies for projects with their IPs but that just doesn’t seem to be happening.
All I can say in comparison to Odyssey is that I never felt compelled to go back and collect everything in that game once I rolled credits but I absolutely will after I finish Bananza.
@SleeplessKnight I’m hoping this happens so much. I was so excited for a console quality NHL game on a handheld when the Switch first launched- I wouldn’t have even cared if it was based on last gen versions at the time.
They don’t even make them for PC so even when I got a Steam Deck my portable hockey dreams were squashed again
@RupeeClock Absolutely. Seems the best thing they can do is include a “Switch 2” mode in the Switch version itself, one that has a dynamic resolution that maxes out at the highest Switch can go along with an uncapped frame rate. Just note in the settings that it’s not recommended for Switch 1 users.
I don’t know if it’s possible to take advantage of higher resolutions than 1080p in that way or to make full use of the new screen without making a proper Switch 2 patch (I assume not to both) but at least it would make for a better experience on day one for those who have the new console.
@Hwatt “I have suspicion that the Switch 2 generation won’t be as competitive (corporation fighting for value for the consumer) in comparison to the Switch 1“
In what world were they a corporation “fighting for value for the consumer” with Switch 1? It wasn’t exactly cheap at the time of release and is still yet to see a real price drop, no pack in game or bundle at launch, Wii U ports were all full price, Nintendo Selects are no longer a thing as of the Switch generation, they started charging for online after 2 generations of providing it for free. I could go on.
Now I’m not saying the Switch wasn’t great value because it definitely was but it wasn’t from Nintendo going out of their way for the consumer. They charged what they thought they could get away with across the board and engaged with all the business practices they thought would be profitable and that people would largely accept.
Bananza. I really liked Odyssey but this game goes above and beyond it IMO. Probably going to dethrone Galaxy 2 as my favorite 3D platformer when all is said and done.
It’s a PS4/Pro level system running a game that’s targeting PS5. Naturally it’s not going to run as smoothly. Unless there’s a shift to Switch 2 being the lead platform for games this will be the norm and it’s the price to pay for portability just as it was on Switch.
Thinking about it it’s amazing that we got several Super Nintendo World locations before a proper Pokémon theme park/addition. I know there was a temporary PokéPark eons ago but not the same thing as that was never planned to stick around.
Don’t really know if it’s an easter egg as such but “Oh banana” coming back is so fun.
All of the Rare easter eggs and callbacks are so nice to see…the devs clearly have a lot of love for what Rare did with their DK games. Still think a few people from Rare should get a direct credit in the game or at least just a special thanks to Rare in general but either way it must be nice for those old teams to see their work being celebrated like this so many years later.
I doubt even Nintendo themselves are surprised it’s not doing as well as Odyssey in the same time frame, not least because of the obvious reasons but also because it’s Donkey Kong. It would be unreasonable to expect it to do as well or better than a Mario game even when all is said and done.
@CriticalHit I’m sure somebody has looked into the full credits but just at a glance at the senior roles for Bananza there’s a few key differences…the director is new to Nintendo and the director for Odyssey was a producer for Bananza instead; the art manager for Odyssey was the art director for DK. The key designers are also different for both games.
It’s entirely possible they’ve been making both a DK and 3D Mario in tandem. Would make sense considering how much bigger Mario is than DK and forgoing a big new Mario game for another 5+ years just doesn’t seem likely. If DK is the only new “3D Mario” we get for a while though I have no problem with that, it’s an amazing game!
@romevi Did they at least let you take any of it if you wanted to? It’s the refusal to allow even employees to take things that really baffles and annoys me, like if it’s just going to get scrapped anyway then who does it affect 🥴
Why would anyone look at something like this and say “yeah trash it”? Even if you don’t care about Pokémon at all surely you’d realise there’s money in things like that? Or at least just donate it or something?
It’s as baffling as GameStop making employees break games etc. that are going to be discarded so they can’t be taken home or sold. Or Nintendo sending out people to physically break demo kiosks at stores when they’re no longer intended to be in use.
I hope this is the norm going forward and third parties at least try proper physical releases to see if there’s enough demand to make it worth it.
Honestly I can see why most publishers opted for key cards at launch because if they were being realistic with their expectations then most of those games were never going to sell huge amounts. Most people buying a Switch 2 at launch more than likely already had a console that could play those games and for much cheaper too…it was always going to be a tough sell for most of those titles so minimizing risk and going for the cheapest physical option makes sense (unfortunately for collectors). When it comes to proper new games though there should be no excuse if they put their best foot forward with quality releases. If they fail on proper cartridges then fair enough but at least see if the market is there.
Seriously impressive port but sadly it isn’t doing much for me so I’ll be trading it in tomorrow for Donkey Kong. Love most things about it but the gameplay just isn’t clicking with me and isn’t enough to keep me coming back to it. Credit to CDPR though for a great port and supporting physical at launch, I hope it all paid off for them!
@FatDaddyD Could they not just put it on a Switch cartridge? I’m guessing the Switch 2 editions of games like BotW are just on a red standard Switch cartridge since it still works on Switch 1. Provided the space is there couldn’t they just include the upgrades on there and it just unlocks when played on Switch 2?
If anything I’d rather just have the Switch 1 version be available and trigger a download for the upgrades for free if you play on Switch 2. Just have a sticker on the front or whatever explaining the upgrades instead of having two SKUs.
@deecas Yes, you can still play the Switch 1 cartridge but to get the Switch 2 benefits you would have to buy the full Switch 2 version as well. It’ll probably run better than it does on Switch by default like DQ3 does (locked 30fps instead of all over the place) but presumably the Switch 2 edition of these games will run at 60fps/higher resolution and you won’t get that without paying full price again.
They could offer an upgrade path no problem (Level 5 did for example with Fantasy Life i) but they’re choosing not to.
Definitely better than code in a box which really should just be ousted in favour of key cards and not in addition to.
I will begrudgingly buy these because it still is better than having nothing physical at all but I’m not paying a premium for them. I never buy digital games at full retail price because they don’t offer the same value that you get from a physical release at the same price and key cards don’t give you the full worth of a proper cartridge either. If third parties want to cheap out then fine but I’ll wait for the prices to drop on key cards while companies like CDPR get my day one attention.
@Blofse Yeah on Xbox/PS5 it’s easy to set a Spotify playlist up to play in the background so not too big of a deal. Mostly it sucks for the bands who didn’t get asked to return especially if many people associate a song of yours with one of those games.
The changes to 4 just seem completely unnecessary.
As for the soundtrack, I can understand it can be a struggle to get the rights for licensed music (if that was even part of the reason for the changes which I doubt) but the new soundtrack is full of big artists anyway and regardless…it’s Microsoft. They could have got every old song back plus as many new tracks as they’d like if they wanted to. Not much of an issue on other consoles since you could just make a Spotify playlist of the old soundtrack and play it in the background if you wanted to but no such luck on Switch/2.
Baffling really, remakes like this should be such an easy win but then they make these bizarre choices. I think it looks good overall still but I’ll wait for a sale.
Having played it on both platforms I can definitely say that Switch 2 is the better experience.
As an added bonus the Switch 2 more than likely won’t crap itself and refuse to boot up if you don’t turn it on for a month. Turned my Steam Deck on the other day for the first time since the Switch 2 released and it’s stuck on the boot up logo. Every attempt to fix it is going nowhere and it’s not the first time it’s happened either. I feel like all of the Switch 2 naysayers who say “just get a Steam Deck or any handheld PC instead” are forgetting the fact that they’re prone to issues that plague PCs in general and console players don’t want to deal with those problems. Love my Deck but I’ve had infinitely more technical issues with it in the 3 years I’ve owned it than I have my launch day Switch.
I’m all for efforts to circumvent a consoles security for preservation. Especially as things move towards digital only and we get stuff like game key cards- I’m rooting for the hacking community to ensure that when the servers are shut down one day I can still download those games I’ve bought and continue to use them as intended long after Nintendo/third parties have decided they don’t want to provide what I’ve paid for.
Having said that, when a console is still current and supported making hacks public only opens things up to problems even if the intentions are sound. Bans from online services sounds about right (though what I’m hearing about totally bricking units is too far IMO).
At least there are smaller physical publishers who are prioritising having everything on the cartridge like Lost in Cult (and they’re not interested in making things extremely limited either). It’s not ideal but hopefully third parties who don’t want to do proper physical copies themselves will be receptive to companies like that doing it for them.
@Suketoudara All of the launch games should have upgrade paths but this one not having one is especially ridiculous. I’d honestly bet they’d make more money charging £5 to upgrade for people who already own it than they will selling it at full price.
@Grumblevolcano I doubt it. They’ve announced plenty of things through twitter that you’d expect to see in a Direct (most recently Xenoblade X:DE). It’s more likely that those kinds of announcements that they don’t want to keep for a Direct for whatever reason will just happen on the Today app now instead.
Cyberpunk is an awesome tech showcase for the console but I have to be honest, 8 hours in I’m finding it hard to follow what’s going on. Really trying to understand what the story is about so far and it’s just flying over my head, like I’m doing things and don’t really understand why.
@BlaizeV There is no universe where this game is considered a spin off. It’s a proper Mario Kart through and through and it’ll be the platform they build on for most of the Switch 2’s life- we’re not going to see a “true” MK8 sequel any time soon. This is the sequel, no doubt about it.
The only explanation I can see being plausible is that the devs feel like people aren’t giving the connecting routes enough of a chance and so are increasing the odds of those tracks being played. I get it that they spent years on the open world and these intermissions but if players are actively trying to avoid them then they should take that feedback to heart and provide them with what they want. Have a 3 lap lobby and one for those who want intermissions. Besides, there’s Knockout Tour which itself is a much better showcase for the connected world- far more enjoyable than shoehorning it into standard races.

I’m guessing this is mainly when docked…I’ve used mine handheld 99% of the time and had no issues as far heating goes when playing portable.
However, the day I got it I played a few hours of MK docked and thought it was very hot when I took it out to play in handheld.
Re: Nintendo's Ability To Ban Switch 2 Consoles Has Landed It In Hot Water
I’m all for efforts to circumvent a consoles security for preservation. Especially as things move towards digital only and we get stuff like game key cards- I’m rooting for the hacking community to ensure that when the servers are shut down one day I can still download those games I’ve bought and continue to use them as intended long after Nintendo/third parties have decided they don’t want to provide what I’ve paid for.
Having said that, when a console is still current and supported making hacks public only opens things up to problems even if the intentions are sound. Bans from online services sounds about right (though what I’m hearing about totally bricking units is too far IMO).
Re: Furukawa's Defence Of Game-Key Cards Ain't All That Convincing
At least there are smaller physical publishers who are prioritising having everything on the cartridge like Lost in Cult (and they’re not interested in making things extremely limited either). It’s not ideal but hopefully third parties who don’t want to do proper physical copies themselves will be receptive to companies like that doing it for them.
Re: Puyo Puyo Tetris 2S Updated For Switch 2, Here's What's Included
@Suketoudara All of the launch games should have upgrade paths but this one not having one is especially ridiculous. I’d honestly bet they’d make more money charging £5 to upgrade for people who already own it than they will selling it at full price.
Re: Nintendo's President Apologises For Not Being Able To Meet Switch 2 Demand
@Grumblevolcano I doubt it. They’ve announced plenty of things through twitter that you’d expect to see in a Direct (most recently Xenoblade X:DE). It’s more likely that those kinds of announcements that they don’t want to keep for a Direct for whatever reason will just happen on the Today app now instead.
Re: Japanese Charts: Mario Kart World Speeds Past 1 Million Physical Sales
@jsty3105 I think that data and a fleeting glance at commentary online would have been enough for them to put 2 and 2 together
Re: Feature: Every Switch 2 Launch Game, Ranked
Cyberpunk is an awesome tech showcase for the console but I have to be honest, 8 hours in I’m finding it hard to follow what’s going on. Really trying to understand what the story is about so far and it’s just flying over my head, like I’m doing things and don’t really understand why.
Re: Fans Reckon Nintendo Has "Killed" Mario Kart World With Its Latest Update
