Re: Rumour: Metroid Prime 4 Will Apparently Make Quite The Splash At The Switch 2 Direct

larryisaman

@1UP-HUSKY I think they can have their cake and eat it too if this is Switch 2 enhanced and is a drastic improvement over playing it on Switch. They can show it as a clear improvement over the original, and since Switch 2 is so iterative it makes sense to have something they can point to visually that immediately shows why the new console is better.

Plus Metroid isn’t the biggest seller historically so being able to sell to an install base of 150+ million makes sense, especially when Prime 4 is likely one of the most expensive games Nintendo has ever made (if not the most expensive).

Re: Rumour: Metroid Prime 4 Will Apparently Make Quite The Splash At The Switch 2 Direct

larryisaman

@-wc- New 3DS enhanced tons of 3DS games. Sometimes it was just better load times but some games like Monster Hunter 4 had higher resolution textures and almost doubled the frame rate when playing on a New 3DS.

As long as Switch 2 doesn’t force it to run at Switch clock speeds when playing OG titles we should see games with uncapped frame rates/dynamic resolutions see improvements without any work being done to them. Hopefully Nintendo will allow Switch 2 specific patches though

Re: Rumour: Metroid Prime 4 Will Apparently Make Quite The Splash At The Switch 2 Direct

If Switch 2 can enhance performance of Switch games (and really why wouldn’t it, Nintendo have done it with past handhelds) then Prime 4 makes perfect sense to take advantage of it. Especially if they get it out as a launch title- they still get to sell it to the massive Switch install base but then they also get a game that (hopefully) clearly shows the jump in power over last gen.

A definitive version of Prime 4 and Mario Kart 9 at launch would be a belter of a combo honestly- Mario Kart for the mass audience and Prime 4 for the (ugh) “hardcore” crowd.

Re: Rumour: Xbox Expected To Join Switch 2 With A New Handheld This Year

larryisaman

@Yosher If they price it competitively with the Steam Deck and it has a big enough jump in power over it I could see them doing moderately well with it for people who want to upgrade their Deck and haven’t got the option from Valve themselves yet. Game Pass games running natively would be a cool thing (I use Xcloud on my Deck which is fine but having them installed would be better) and if it’s easy enough to back into Steam or even dual boot into SteamOS then I could be tempted honestly if the price is right.

Re: Ori Dev Goes "Fully Independent" Following Private Division Sale

larryisaman

@jesse_dylan I think Microsoft acquired Obsidian while they were making the first Outer Worlds but since 2K/PD published it that extended to any remasters etc. I would imagine the rights to the franchise in general have gone to Microsoft at this point though so I wouldn’t be surprised if Spacer’s Choice ends up on GamePass at some point soon

Re: Monster Hunter: Wilds Tech Analysis Has Us Concerned About A Switch 2 Port

larryisaman

@Wisps Exactly. Besides, after the Switch anything is possible. Who could have possibly looked at the raw specs for that console and imagined that it would run games like Witcher 3, Nier Automata, Doom etc.? Even games designed for Xbox like Ori: Will of the Wisps released in a very shaky state and cast doubts on a Switch version being possible yet here we are.

I’m not saying it’s happening, but I won’t be surprised if it is.

Re: Poll: Which Pokémon Game Really Deserves A Remake Next?

larryisaman

I only want more remakes if they’re going to actually give them the time they deserve. BDSP was exactly what I’d been asking for in the sense that GameFreak gave it to another studio so they could focus on their new games (which still resulted in poorly optimized titles but still, the right step). The problem was it was BDSP, a game that clearly didn’t get the time or budget to make something with a much greater scope that ILCA are more than capable of.

If we’re just looking at another by the numbers remake though with simplistic visuals then I’m not really bothered at all. If we can expect an ambitious 3D reimagining though then I would love another take on Gold/Silver/Crystal.

Re: Hollow Knight: Silksong Briefly Vanishes From US Switch eShop, But It's Back Now

larryisaman

My guess is that because the team is only 3 people and Hollow Knight was so successful on top of being self published they likely have no financial burdens and thus no need to rush to get the game out to keep the lights on. Feature creep probably set in long ago and they’ve indulged in it because they can afford to indefinitely.

They can take all the time they want as far as I’m concerned, but I am hopeful that we’ll see it soon.

Re: Sony Does What Nintendon't By Removing A Bunch Of 'eSlop' Titles

larryisaman

If you want to make a low effort game then you should be able to publish it on whatever platform you want. You shouldn’t get the same visibility as games that actually deserve attention though, which is one of the biggest problems on the eShop.

Seems like a simple fix to me…hire teams to play just a fraction of every game that gets submitted and decide if it deserves to be on the recent releases tab or at the top of the special offers section etc. If not, bury it. Have it so users will only see them when they scroll towards the bottom of said tabs or actively search for them. Giving everyone more or less equal visibility is admirable but in practice only makes for a terrible experience and just makes it harder for quality games to succeed.

Re: Don't Worry, Dragon Quest XII Is Still In Development

larryisaman

@JohnnyMind It’s one of those games that you know is happening regardless of whether it’s been teased or not though. Just as it’s a sure thing that a new Pokémon RPG is happening or a new 3D Mario etc.; nobody needs an announcement of a mainline DQ game to know they’re doing it

Re: Nintendo Talks About Future Switch Support Ahead Of Switch 2 Launch

larryisaman

Hopefully anything new that comes to Switch will be remasters and anything lower budget/priority. I don’t want a PS4/PS5 type of situation- if I’m going to put down what will inevitably be a fair amount of money for a Switch 2 I want the games that release for it to properly take advantage of the hardware and not be hamstrung by needing to scale down to last gen.

Re: Surprise! Donkey Kong Country Returns HD Now Has A Switch eShop Demo

larryisaman

@Markatron84 Brand power…that’s all there is to it. Metroid is a comparatively much smaller franchise so they thought a lower price would help sell Prime Remastered while games like Mario, Donkey Kong and Zelda will sell on name alone.

To put things into perspective, the original DKCR on Wii alone sold almost as much as the original 3 Prime games combined. If Metroid was as big of a seller as DK is then they’d have charged £50 for Prime Remastered too.

Re: Nintendo Switch Hardware Sales Pass 150 Million, With PS2's Record Still A Way Off

larryisaman

@Spider-Kev I thought after the Switch lite was announced we were on track for a set top box style version at some point soon but I guess they never needed to.

I think after the Switch 2 releases though it’d be the perfect thing to drop. Would be a great budget option for them to have, and it wouldn’t be the first time they released a cheaper/pared back version of their previous gen console after its successor launched since the Wii mini was released after the Wii U.

Re: UK Charts: Black Ops 6 Fends Off A Wave Of Nintendo Hits

larryisaman

@Sam_ATLUS Home consoles were always less popular for sure. I was one of few with a GameCube growing up (but at least I wasn’t seemingly the one and only kid at school who had a Dreamcast 🥴). Nintendo handhelds have always been massive here though so it makes sense that the Switch has took off here in the way it has!

Re: Mailbox: Switch 2 Caution, Unpopular Opinions, Easy Games - Nintendo Life Letters

larryisaman

@Bigmanfan Same here. And it’s also ignorant to the fact that they didn’t just do new things in the past just for the sake of being different- they were trying to carve out their own niche, and when they hit upon something that works they stay there. DS to 3DS for example- basically the same thing but better. When whatever they’re doing stops working they try something else….the Switch worked so they’re doing it again. No surprise.

Re: Xbox Is "Really Looking Forward" To Supporting Switch 2

larryisaman

@Haruki_NLI @Not_Soos Bingo. They have a history of publishing licensed stuff, loads of Disney games and even MLB and NBA games.

They also published that DC Super Hero Girls game on Switch a few years ago. There’s genuinely nothing stopping them from doing more licensed games if they want to. Granted said games weren’t developed in-house, but still nothing stopping them from using their own studios should the right game come along (though yes, I don’t think they’d do Banjo anyway since on top of everything else it would likely mean making it for Xbox as well).

Re: Feature: Switch 2's Mouse Support Is Exciting, But Which Current Games Might Also Benefit?

larryisaman

@Jack_Goetz Yeah RE4 was a freak thing considering the other games got it 🥴 No idea what happened there…maybe they just didn’t think they had to put the extra effort in to help make it sell considering how popular RE4 is. By and large though I’d say it’s more common to have gyro in Switch shooters than not, and if mouse controls are popular enough I can see them being generally expected to. Can’t imagine they’ll take much work to implement

Re: Team Cherry Reconfirms Hollow Knight: Silksong Is Actually Real In Small Development Update

larryisaman

Game will be ready when it’s ready and I don’t mind waiting for it but what’s with the messing around? Fans are obviously going to look into everything anyone related to the project puts out so why bother with cryptic tweets and changing profile pictures to things that invite speculation if they apparently mean nothing?

Like I said, I don’t mind waiting but it’s a bit unfair to play with people when they know their fans are so excited for the thing they’re making.

Re: UK Charts: Donkey Kong Barrels Past The Competition To Claim Gold

larryisaman

@AlleyCat Exactly. Anyway this game is 14 years old…there are tons of kids growing up who have never played this. To them it’s brand new and won’t care that it’s old or that you can get it cheaper on Wii or 3DS or whatever.

I totally get not thinking it’s worth full price if you already played it. I wouldn’t pay full price for what it is, but people like us who frequent Nintendo sites and have been playing games for decades are not the majority that this game will primarily sell to. A lot of people seem to forget that and it’s getting irksome seeing the same rhetoric over and over with Nintendo remasters

Re: Nintendo: Switch 2's Backwards Compatibility Feature Is The "Best Direction" For Consumers

larryisaman

@N00BiSH To be fair to the TLoU 2 remaster, if you already own the PS4 version you can upgrade to the new version for £10. I’m hoping Nintendo don’t take that path and offer the upgrades for free but I guess it’s better than not doing them at all.

And yeah, I could see them putting out deluxe versions of stuff like SSBU with all the DLC and any graphical updates included, but I would hope they’d offer those visual improvements to those who’d already bought the original game on Switch. Would be an easier pill to swallow if they re-released a ton of Switch games but let you get access to those for cheap if you own them already.

@neuron123 They’re doing it because it just makes sense to. Every Nintendo handheld has been backwards compatible with its previous generation, why would that stop now?
