Re: Nintendo Places Outside Top 20 In Metacritic's 15th Annual Game Publisher Rankings

lacaras4

Still not a big fan of the methodology of these rankings, a publisher publishing a couple of "just okay" games shouldn't detract from them publishing great ones, especially if those "just okay" games were smaller one off or niche kind of games and the great games were hyped and highly anticipated.

I also still feel like many reviewers in the industry are more critical of anything Nintendo publishes because if they aren't they get accused of being biased in favor toward Nintendo. It's like the common belief is that the industry is too soft on Nintendo, so many reviewers over-correct in the other direction.

I'm not saying Nintendo had an amazing year or anything, but 22? Really?

Re: Opinion: Nintendo, Let Us Buy The Games Being Delisted From Switch Online

lacaras4

I don't really care if they do or don't, but the thing is, games like Super Soccer are not worth $8 to anyone, why go through the effort for the 5 people who would buy it? Virtual console sucked, 99% of the people who are asking for it to return wouldn't buy more than like 5 games on it because it's too damn expensive and if you're already paying for NSO to play online and for cloud saves, you're actively discouraged from buying anything that's already available through there.

Re: Game Vouchers Won't Work On Switch 2 Exclusives, Says Nintendo

lacaras4

I'm hoping they're just replacing it with something similar. Imo one of the best features of NSO is the vouchers. Expecting Switch 2 games to have a standard MSRP of $70, so maybe they'll just have "game tickets" or some other name for $120. Sucks for prices to go up, but it would be understandable.

Re: No Wins For Nintendo At DICE Awards, But Balatro Bags A Three Of A Kind

lacaras4

Maybe I'm a little unclear on what "Family game" means, but isn't Astrobot a single player game? Not sure I'd consider a game without multiplayer to be a family game, maybe they mean kid friendly? Haven't played the Indiana Jones game, but Echoes of Wisdom is outstanding, best 2D Zelda since Minish Cap, maybe even since Link to the Past.... maybe of all time.

Re: Nintendo President Reiterates Switch Online Will "Continue To Be Available" For Switch 2

lacaras4

NSO itself is okay, not amazing, not bad, just okay. The value however is outstanding. The service costs peanuts and you get online play, cloud saves, emulators, and can buy game vouchers. The game vouchers by themselves pay for the cost of the basic NSO plan if you buy them once a year or more.

And it seems like not a popular opinion anymore, but I greatly prefer the emulator apps being part of NSO than having to pay $5 for every NES game, $8 for every SNES game, and $10 for every N64 game, have people forgotten how damn expensive virtual console's prices were?? Because they were expensive I only bought a handful of games I knew I'd like, with NSO since everything is included I've gotten to try out tons of games I wouldn't have bought at VC prices and had a lot of fun experiences-- and all for the cost of something I would have paid for anyway. I had maybe around 15-20 virtual console games on my Wii U costing somewhere around $150-$200 over the 5 year life of the Wii U, now I have a library of over 300 retro games and growing, costing around $230-$260 over the 8 year life of the Switch, most of which I would have paid anyway for the ability to play online and buy game vouchers.

The biggest improvement I want to see with NSO is for Nintendo to lean more into the "Expansion" aspect of it, give us more DLC as part of the service! IMO the expansion is still a good value, but not as good as the basic service.

Re: Talking Point: Could Ganondorf Ever Be The Star Of A Zelda Game?

lacaras4

I think it could be interesting to do a game that explores Ganondorf's backstory. Take Ganondorf from Ocarina of Time and make him much younger. You don't even necessarily need to make him evil, he could be the "hero" of his own story, and the story could pan out that leads him down an evil path in the future. In Wind Waker Ganondorf talks about coveting the wind (meaning life) of those in Hyrule as when the wind blew in the desert where his people are from it lead to death. I think you could make an interesting story by expanding on this idea of Ganondorf seeking a way to better the life of the Gerudo tribe and being rejected or even betrayed by those in Hyrule who wished to keep their distance, leading him to take less ethical approaches until he eventually is taken over by his desire for power.

NA all day, EU looks dumb with them grabbing onto pegs that are just floating there. It's not even the way it is in game, there are no other pegs to grab onto, how'd they get up there? Just looks sloppy imo.

Re: Rumour: Xbox May Be About To Join The Switch In The Handheld Space

lacaras4

Tbh I'd be surprised if Microsoft released a handheld that wasn't Windows based, seems more like competition for Steam Deck than for Switch.

A windows based handheld just makes more sense, the games are already made for it, that way they don't need to do a bunch of work (or make it stupid powerful and expensive) to make XSX games work on it.

Re: Nintendo Places In "Top 10" Of Metacritic's 14th Annual Game Publisher Rankings

lacaras4

Not that I really care, but this methodology is dumb. Number 2, 3, and 4 are publishers who only put out a handful of titles, but they all scored "good" (not even "great"), so they got top spots. Imo Nintendo should be higher than Capcom, Nintendo had both more "good" (16 vs 9) and "great" (4 vs 3) titles, but the average brought them down, meaning they would have won if they didn't release as many games, how does releasing fewer games make a publisher better?

Re: Talking Point: What Would Make You Happy To Give Up Physical Games And Go 100% Digital?

lacaras4

I'm already mostly digital, don't really need convincing, when I buy physical games it's because it's a good deal, otherwise I always prefer digital, it's so much more convenient. Physical games are basically just digital games on their own fancy SD card nowadays anyway, the vast majority of games have patches, updates, etc, that if I can't redownload digital games anymore, I'm sure I can't redownload patches either. Not that I'm worried about it, I can still redownload Wii games that I purchased, and I think it would be completely understandable by now if that was shut down, it's going to be a long while before I can't redownload Switch games, and by the time that happens I probably won't care anymore either and will have already backed everything up.

Re: E3 Has Been Cancelled, Permanently

lacaras4

There's been no reason for E3 to exist for several years now, so this is no surprise. Companies have found streaming pre-recorded presentations to be a more effective and less costly way to make announcements to consumers and industry insiders alike. Thanks for the memories E3!
