There are already a number of videos on YouTube bemoaning the fact there are Hobbits of color and screaming "DEI" and "Woke!", saying how they are destroying Tolkien's legacy.
It's enough to make one lose any hope for the future.
I don't know. The game froze up on me first play through. Just to be safe I re- downloaded it and it's fine now. I think I' m on chapter 3. (Why does it take 2 1/2 hours to download e-shop games? My connection is fine so wth, Nintendo?)
I've been gaming for a long time and remember the bad old days of some games so perhaps my expectations are lower, but it seems fine visually to me. A couple of hiccups but nothing disastrous.
It's a story book game. I think some are thinking it should be Grand Theft Auto. Yeah, it can seem a bit hand holdy, but the writing is very clever and snarky and the cut scenes fit the tone of the game.
I'm hoping it plays better on Switch 2 but til then I'm enjoying it for what it is: a loving homage to a kid's dream. It's fun.
I've been playing on the Switch and there have only been one or 2 tiny hiccups, hardly noticeable. I've just been unceremoniously tossed into the 'real world'.
The early puzzles are cute and relatively easy, but I'm sure the difficulty will ramp up.
The game is freaking adorabibble!
EDIT: Looks like I spoke too soon: game just locked up on me where I'm learning how to sneak.
Tbf: it took almost 2 hours to download from the e shop. Can that screw up data?
@rjejr
My TV is a 55" I-don't-know-what-k, lol. It's about 9 yrs old, so it's probably nothing k. But games look fine to me.
For other than Ninty games I use my Galaxy Pro Book 360 and Steam with the Pro controller. (I absolutely detest playing games with a keyboard. I can do it, but generally swear like a sailor.) Part of the reason I can only afford one gaming system is that I'm a sucker for Samsung, right down to my beloved Z Flip 5 phone.
But I'm a saint in all other aspects of my life so the obsession is ok.
My only problem is a little old lady is my IT person: me. But I'm fairly tech savvy and have loved technology since Pong. Google and I are now officially in a relationship.
I have nothing but respect for this guy and the work he's put in. Stardew never really clicked with me and I was looking forward to trying again with the new update.
I've really gotten into Fields of Mistria and it's scratching that itch now.
I don't understand why they're being so coy about the price. We've got the release date, now tell us how much we need to shell out. Some of us need to plan for game purchases, especially with Zelda releasing a few days later.
@Fangleman32 As others have said, using the same technique does not equate to being the same style. As an artist, I have always thought that TP is the loveliest of the Zelda games. It's a far cry from OoT and MM stylistically.
@rjejr
Lucky you! I adore Montreal. It's a lovely city.
The first time we went I was just starting the 8th month of pregnancy with our first. We walked down hill to site see and were going to ride the tram or whatever it was back up to the hotel. Well, it wasn't running. There were no cabs around.
We started back up and about half way there I sat down on the curb. Bill asked what I was doing and I told him to go home without me, that I was just going to sit there, have the baby and I'd catch up with him in a couple months.
I seem to remember he got me back to the hotel by luring me with a croissant.
Here we go again. Anyone who doesn't care for bouncing boobs going boing boing is considered a prude or weird.
Perhaps the insults against those who see them as nonsensical says more about you than them. I don't care. But if you can't see objectification is a problem then you don't see it.
Nothing anyone says is going to change your mind. But one has to wonder why they chose those 3 seconds to put in the video.
Any pixilated game with bright orange and green is retro for me. Even if it's a new release. I know many love the retro look, but I don't. I played thru it the first time and don't care for the graphic style now.
TTYD. It's a terrific remaster-or-remake-whatever it is. It makes me happy. I also got a free physical copy of Rune Factory 4 for the Switch. It's fun to play it on the TV.
@rjejr
I think you get a BINGO on them selling more than they were going to get theory. As someone else said, Walmart's gaming offerings have reduced, especially for Nintendo.
I've pretty much given up trying to understand Nintendo's decisions. But this one is not a good look. "Please understand..."
(btw: my sprained ankle I've been walking on for 8 weeks was, in fact, a broken ankle. Ah well: live and learn). Now I've got a boot that's like dragging a corpse around.)
It seems to be just Amazon and Walmart. I pre-ordered it at Gamestoppo because I had $30 credit.
Those of us who live in the boonies tend to pre-order games we really want because there are fewer stores to buy from and inventories can sell out quickly unless we want to drive 50 miles to get it.
@NintonicGamer Please understand: Nintendo does the least it can do and still keep its customers. They throw us a bone, now and again, but we're gonna pay top dollar for it.
I can only afford to support one system and it's Nintendo (and Steam) but I don't fool myself that they care more about me than my wallet. They are a business and ruthless when needs be. Dressing it in bright colors and cutsey, snarky posts doesn't change that.
Hey, friend! Sorry it's taken me so long to reply, but I stepped onto a dusting of snow on grass, skipped and fell on my...well it rhymes with grass. Wrenched my whole leg but mainly my knee and ankle. I'm still hobbling around.
Anyway: this made me smile. I'm all for 420 day, but now they've legalized it in NYS I can't afford it. Yeah, it's close, but I'm a bit younger and a lot edgier. Hope you and yours are well.

Re: Review: The Plucky Squire (Switch) - Enormously Charming, But Not So Plucky On Switch
@brandonbwii
It's like they played a different game. Mine plays fine.
Re: Review: The Plucky Squire (Switch) - Enormously Charming, But Not So Plucky On Switch
I'm a bit sorry to see so many here taking this review as gospel and ignoring the fact that many of us are saying it's fine on the Switch.
Something is off, but I don't know what. Ah well. Non-players loss, I guess.

I give it a solid 8.
Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For The Plucky Squire
@rta
As I said, other than couple very small hiccups when there was a lot going on, frame rate was fine...until it froze up.

I've emailed Devolver Digital about it.

That is just too adorable!

@rjejr Google is a slut and is only using you for your data. 😉
I didn't say is was a good relationship.
Re: Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom Overview Trailer Gives Us Another Tasty Look
And it's already leaked online, according to Nintendo Prime and others. A full 2 weeks early.
Be careful if you don't like spoilers.

Have a cup of coffee and watch your blood pressure, lol.
I can only afford to support one gaming console and I'm glad I stuck with Nintendo.
Re: Zelda-Themed 'Hyrule Edition' Switch Lite Spotted At PAX West 2024
I've got a new, virgin credit card waiting for the next iteration of the Switch. No way could I justify buying this now.

I kind of miss the old days when you would post how Sony was evil. Fun times.

Hasn't Fantasy Life I been delayed yet again? Anyway I'm getting Zelda and The Plucky Squire.

Re: The Plucky Squire Physical Release Announced, Pre-Orders Now Live

Thanks muchly, friend. Pretty much what I figured.
Though you did mention "Nintendo logic" which is an oxymoron, imho, heheh.
Re: The Plucky Squire Physical Release Announced, Pre-Orders Now Live
@rjejr
Hey, you're a smart guy (even if you suck at puns ). Can you answer my question?
Re: The Plucky Squire Physical Release Announced, Pre-Orders Now Live
Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but will games like this automatically run better on the next version of the Switch?

That deafening WHOOOOOSH you're hearing is the joke going over my head. I may just be feeling a bit more dense than usual, heheh.

Re: Iconic Publication Game Informer Is Closing Down After 33 Years

Yet if everyone thinks that way they make a fortune on a product they decided to not deliver.
Imho, it's the principle as well as the money.
Re: Iconic Publication Game Informer Is Closing Down After 33 Years
I just got a subscription for a friend a month ago. He just got his first issue.
I've got a feeling we're gonna have to fight to get our money back. Should have been automatically done.
Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Release Windows For Major Upcoming Switch Games
Hey Nintendo Life: I tried voting but it told me I had already voted. Which I hadn't. Wassup with that?
Re: Talking Point: Will The Switch Ever Get A 'Nintendo Selects' Range?
Nope. They are raking in too much money the way things are.

Re: What Review Score Would You Give Luigi's Mansion 2 HD?
@Mana_Knight
Not here in the States. 99% of the time we have to pay MSRP.

I'm pretty happy with this one, but I was really, really, really really hoping for TP and WW.
Nintendo hates me. Sigh.
Re: Hands On: 'Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure' Is A Rubix Cube Zelda-Like, And We Love It
Some types of puzzles I'm pretty good at, others not so much.
I'm interested, but it's the sort of game I'd really need a demo for.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (1st June)
TTYD. It's a terrific remaster-or-remake-whatever it is. It makes me happy.
I also got a free physical copy of Rune Factory 4 for the Switch. It's fun to play it on the TV.
Re: Poll: Is $60 Too Much For Nintendo's Switch Re-Releases?
@stinky_t
Here in the States we are pretty much stuck with MSRP. Big Nintendo games rarely go on sale, except thru the e-shop.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (25th May)
@Ooyah
Yeah, accidents are lurking, heheh.
I slipped on snowy grass March 25 and walked on a sprained ankle for 8 weeks then found out I had broken the fibula. Not fun.
Here's hoping we both get better soon and have no more accidents!
I'm loving TTYD, as much as I did back in the day. It's a game that just makes me happy.
