Re: Review: The Plucky Squire (Switch) - Enormously Charming, But Not So Plucky On Switch

k8sMum

I don't know. The game froze up on me first play through. Just to be safe I re- downloaded it and it's fine now. I think I' m on chapter 3. (Why does it take 2 1/2 hours to download e-shop games? My connection is fine so wth, Nintendo?)

I've been gaming for a long time and remember the bad old days of some games so perhaps my expectations are lower, but it seems fine visually to me. A couple of hiccups but nothing disastrous.

It's a story book game. I think some are thinking it should be Grand Theft Auto. Yeah, it can seem a bit hand holdy, but the writing is very clever and snarky and the cut scenes fit the tone of the game.

I'm hoping it plays better on Switch 2 but til then I'm enjoying it for what it is: a loving homage to a kid's dream. It's fun.

I give it a solid 8.

I've been playing on the Switch and there have only been one or 2 tiny hiccups, hardly noticeable. I've just been unceremoniously tossed into the 'real world'.

The early puzzles are cute and relatively easy, but I'm sure the difficulty will ramp up.

The game is freaking adorabibble!

EDIT: Looks like I spoke too soon: game just locked up on me where I'm learning how to sneak.
Tbf: it took almost 2 hours to download from the e shop. Can that screw up data?

I've emailed Devolver Digital about it.

My TV is a 55" I-don't-know-what-k, lol. It's about 9 yrs old, so it's probably nothing k. But games look fine to me.

For other than Ninty games I use my Galaxy Pro Book 360 and Steam with the Pro controller. (I absolutely detest playing games with a keyboard. I can do it, but generally swear like a sailor.) Part of the reason I can only afford one gaming system is that I'm a sucker for Samsung, right down to my beloved Z Flip 5 phone.

But I'm a saint in all other aspects of my life so the obsession is ok.

My only problem is a little old lady is my IT person: me. But I'm fairly tech savvy and have loved technology since Pong. Google and I are now officially in a relationship.

Lucky you! I adore Montreal. It's a lovely city.

The first time we went I was just starting the 8th month of pregnancy with our first. We walked down hill to site see and were going to ride the tram or whatever it was back up to the hotel. Well, it wasn't running. There were no cabs around.

We started back up and about half way there I sat down on the curb. Bill asked what I was doing and I told him to go home without me, that I was just going to sit there, have the baby and I'd catch up with him in a couple months.

I seem to remember he got me back to the hotel by luring me with a croissant.

Here we go again. Anyone who doesn't care for bouncing boobs going boing boing is considered a prude or weird.

Perhaps the insults against those who see them as nonsensical says more about you than them. I don't care. But if you can't see objectification is a problem then you don't see it.

Nothing anyone says is going to change your mind. But one has to wonder why they chose those 3 seconds to put in the video.

Re: Talking Point: How Do You Define 'Retro'?

k8sMum

Any pixilated game with bright orange and green is retro for me. Even if it's a new release. I know many love the retro look, but I don't. I played thru it the first time and don't care for the graphic style now.

Yeah, accidents are lurking, heheh.

I slipped on snowy grass March 25 and walked on a sprained ankle for 8 weeks then found out I had broken the fibula. Not fun.

Here's hoping we both get better soon and have no more accidents!

I'm loving TTYD, as much as I did back in the day. It's a game that just makes me happy.

I think you get a BINGO on them selling more than they were going to get theory. As someone else said, Walmart's gaming offerings have reduced, especially for Nintendo.
I've pretty much given up trying to understand Nintendo's decisions. But this one is not a good look. "Please understand..."

(btw: my sprained ankle I've been walking on for 8 weeks was, in fact, a broken ankle. Ah well: live and learn). Now I've got a boot that's like dragging a corpse around.)

Please understand: Nintendo does the least it can do and still keep its customers. They throw us a bone, now and again, but we're gonna pay top dollar for it.

I can only afford to support one system and it's Nintendo (and Steam) but I don't fool myself that they care more about me than my wallet. They are a business and ruthless when needs be. Dressing it in bright colors and cutsey, snarky posts doesn't change that.

Hey, friend! Sorry it's taken me so long to reply, but I stepped onto a dusting of snow on grass, skipped and fell on my...well it rhymes with grass. Wrenched my whole leg but mainly my knee and ankle. I'm still hobbling around.

Anyway: this made me smile. I'm all for 420 day, but now they've legalized it in NYS I can't afford it. Yeah, it's close, but I'm a bit younger and a lot edgier. Hope you and yours are well.
