Re: Review: Harvestella - A Promising Genre Hybrid That Needs Some Watering

k8sMum

An honest, good review. Thanks guys.

Due to the world's economy right now I can only buy about 2 or 3 major games a year. I played the demo thru a couple times and pre-ordered Harvestella off the eshop. If I have any doubts about a game I buy physical so I can off load it, but I enjoyed the demo enough buy it digital. I play docked.

The graphics don't bother me. The game is gorgeous, at least to my old eyes. The music is lush. The story is good and really developes after the first chapter.

The farming may be simplified, but it is a necessary part of the game. One aspect of Rune Factory that always drives me crazy is the soil compounds, upgrading one compound by .01% to try to get a crop upgraded by .001%...I can't stand that nonsense. I know some players love all the intricacies of it, but I don't.

The side quests don't feel like work because the stories behind then are well done. There's pathos, humour, anger, grief: a multitude of emotions.

Is it a perfect game? Of course not. (Imho that title belongs to DQ11S.) There is a real need for a dodge/roll during combat. Most of the NPCs are generic and look alike. While I haven't noticed a lot of frame rate issues, others may be more sensitive to that. Nothing that is a game breaker for me.

Now that the time element has been tweaked it's no longer a problem.

I see some are complaining about the price, which may be a legitimate concern. But if I really enjoy a game and can invest hours into it then it's worth the cost to me. I am loving Harvestella and am very glad I bought it.

Had it pre-downloaded and have been playing all morning. The time element is vastly improved. Fishing is quicker. Things move pretty quickly after you finish the demo and really open up more.

It's not Stardew Valley. It's not Rune Factory. It's Harvestella. I'm enjoying gameplay by not expecting it to be something else.

I don't know why some on the all powerful interwebz are comparing Harvestella to Animal Crossing, to me it makes no sense. Rune Factory may be closer, but I enjoyed the demo by not expecting it to be RF.

It's already down loaded to my Switch, mocking me til Friday. I loved the demo and had gotten a handle on the time element. These QoL tweaks will just make it better.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Think Of The Harvestella Demo?

k8sMum

Demos aren't always representative of the finished game. One problem is they have a ton of stuff to establish story wise which leads to a lot of cut scenes. I saw a post on Reddit that said they are going to fix the time element which will be a big improvement.

I like the game and a few fixes will really help. One reason I'm enjoying it is that I accepted it's not Rune Factory. I'll probably get it physical day 1.

@Uska
Your post was fine, calling out a legitimate concern.

I've started another file and there are more differences between the characters. I'm playing it on a 55" tv and it doesn't look blurry to me as someone else said. I'm enjoying the game and have high hopes for the finished version.

@Uska The differences are very subtle but the stance is what defines the male or female character. I think the top 4 are male and the bottom 4 female. Or vice versa.

I'm really enjoying the game. Time management is tricky but do-able. Plenty of food is given to you during the demo and fast travel helps. Can't wait for Nov 4!

To become a parent or not is a personal decision that no one, whichever they choose, need justify.

However, after our daughter who was diagnosed with leukemia at 14 died at 19, I had a number of people tell me that they knew just how I felt because their dog had died last year or whatever.

No. They had no idea how I felt. And still feel.

@rjejr
Careful, lad: everyone is being so forgiving and accepting about this delay. I keep hearing Koombayah softly playing in the background whilst reading the comments.

Those of us disappointed are unreasonable (insert negative buzzword).

As Ninty likes to say: please understand. Mwahaha. (But they damn well better give us Windwaker soon)

@eleven
You seem willing to accept your own definitions as the only ones that are truth, yet are annoyed that others may see the world thru their definitions. Recreation vs escapism is a bit pedantic. Gads! Some stranger on the 'net may think you play for escapism! How dare they force that label on others!

Truth be told, I seriously doubt anyone cares why you play a game.
