NieR:Automata The End of YoRHa Edition will make its debut on the Nintendo Switch next month, and ahead of release, Square Enix has shared a brand new trailer at the 2022 Tokyo Game Show.
It's another look at the Switch version in action. This port of the game is being handled by the team over at Virtuos and will run at 30fps in 1080p docked and 720p in handheld / tabletop mode.
This particular version of NieR will come with all of the previously released DLC, as well as costumes exclusive to the Switch version.

"The critically acclaimed world of NieR:Automata invades Nintendo Switch! When machine lifeforms from another world attack without warning, unleashing a new type of threat, mankind is driven from Earth and takes refuge on the Moon. As 2B, a member of the android military force YoRHa, immerse yourself in a ferocious battle to take back the planet."

Will need to wait for the full game to release, but this might end up being one of those "impossible ports" that really impresses.
Already preordered mine! So excited
I hate beating a dead horse but if this game can run near flawlessly on Switch hardware, as big and diverse as its mechanics are, then I honestly can't understand why the Kingdom Hearts Collection (excluding 3) can't run natively on the hardware as well.
Also, while I'm fully aware that Square lost the original code for the ps2 versions, that really only makes me question why they didn't do a better job at preserving the original code for those games since all it does is give people all the more reason to pirate them.
Well, I was already going to get it.
@SeantheDon29 KH3 in theory should have little to no trouble running on the Nintendo Switch as it uses the Unreal Engine which is native to the console. The KH releases were done in such a disasterous way only because SE didn't want to put the time and money into doing a proper port job, which all titles could of achieved.
It seems also that it may of been an extremely hastey decision due to the 'celebration' of Sora's inclusion in Smash Brothers, may of even been a behind the scenes agreement that KH needed to come to Switch for Sora to happen. Would explain the hack job they did, even the Cloud versions don't run very well (outside of the Internet dependant issues).
I know basically nothing about this game other than what the characters look like and I've heard great songs from the sound track. If it runs well I might be forced to buy the game just to see what all the hype was about.
I'm already sold! My physical copy has been pre-ordered. Idk if I'll be playing this day 1 since October is packed with Switch releases (Persona 5, Bayonetta 3, TMNT Shredder's Revenge, Yomawari Lost in the Darkness) but it will be on my shelf waiting either way.
why shouldn't it run/look decently on switch anyway?
It wasn't exactly a tech marvel or something on other hardware; just a good(in an "average" good way) looking and running game.
The switch is able to run Witcher 3 and Xenoblade (2+)3, games that are both looking better than Nier.
I’ve wanted to experience this game for a long time, and the trailer looks intense! I’m looking forward to picking up my preorder.
I got 3/4 through this on PS then found an article saying the final level was online only. So, I traded it in.
Hope they fixed that.
I’m definitely tempted because the price of the game is very reasonable in Australia unlike P5R.
Now I'm glad I didn't play the PC version yet. Always prefer playing games on Switch
Bought the game day one on ps4 and already platinum it, it's one of the best game on that console and one of my all-time favorite games.
I'll buy this one physical just to support the game, I hope squareenix will make nier automata 2 with platinum and yoko taro 😃
Always wanted to pick NieR Automata up on PlayStation, but just never got around to it for whatever reason. Will definitely be picking up the Switch version though. Unlike many gamers, I’m not particularly sensitive to 30 vs 60FPS, so Switch will do just fine for me. What with this, Bayonetta 3 and Persona 5 Royal, we’ve got an incredible October ahead of us. Can’t wait.
@Austrian The game wasn't particularly well-optimized on far more powerful home consoles, so the expectation that the game wouldn't fare well on Switch is a reasonable one, I think.
I will wait for the reviews first about the game performance than I will decide
I know nothing about it, but it looks good! I wish there was no voice acting… never a fan of the dramatic B-cheese in video games :/ Maybe they’ll let you turn it off.
For a complete experience Square Enix should port Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139... to Nintendo Switch.
@PoorGeno There is nothing to fix, being online is optional, but it's the intended way to play the game (especially that part). It also makes complete sense in the game universe. The story deals with the concept of humanity, so they want us to interact with other people, even if it's indirectly (the "recovering player bodies" element you get right from the start).
@SeantheDon29
Kingdom Hearts could have been ported to the Switch. But Square wanted to leverage new technology to get the games to market.
I loved Nier (Gestalt) when it was released for the PS 3. Nier Automata was okay. For me the battle mechanic is the part that really improved.
Will buy it on release date just like Persona 5 Royal, No man’s sky, New Tales from the Borderlands. If someone wants to donate some money please let me know 🤓
I like to play with her on Soulcalibur VI. Great character!
Looks great, can't wait to get the physical version for Switch even though I already got it on Steam.
Looks awesome, but who thought it was a good idea to release this the same time as Bayonetta 3?
I hope that original Japanese voices will be available on the game cartridge, not as a dumb DLC file.
This is coming out at a great time. I'm just about wrapping up Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
If its a good port i might double dip as its one of my favourite games. Its such an incredible emotional and deep game and something everyone needs to play.
@judaspete I don't think it matters. I adore Bayo but i can't see the 3rd game selling well.
@XenoShaun I'm with you except for the KH3 bit. I'm sorry, but the Switch ain't running a game like that without heavy downgrades. Both resolution and framerate. The PS4 had some trouble with it, so I know for sure Switch won't stand a chance unless Square some downgrading. Guess they couldn't be bothered with allocating resources for a proper Switch version.
I'm definitely considering it! I kinda went nuts and powered through Xenoblade Chronicles 3 over the course of a few 15 hour days, clearing out the back half of the game. Finishing up some side quests now, but I'll soon be in need of something new to play. Could this be it?!
@TheBigK How do you play games for 15 hours per day? Don't you work or go to school?
@abbyhitter there are people who are freelancers that work when they want or just people who invested in crypto years.
@abbyhitter That was over Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, with a good chunk of Friday evening as well. Monday was declared a holiday for my area due to recent events so I had the day off. I live alone, so I had nothing but free time on my hands 🤣
@TheBigK Ah, I see. Top it off with pizza delivery and constant rainy weather outside, and you've got yourself a good time.
@SeantheDon29 I bet we can thank Platinum. SE doesn't have the most solid history in regards to Switch ports--they've been known in the past to invest the bare mininum rather than work to optimize games for the new platforms. The TWEWY port was lifted wholesale from it's mobile version, which makes sense because of the single-screen adaptation but the fact that they barely touched the control scheme and made it basically unplayable in docked mode not so much. Platinum has a close working relationship with Nintendo so I assume they'd be more closely invested in making sure that this game stands well amongst the rest of their Switch releases.
While to SE's credit they do port a lot of their games and it's great that it means that more people can play them, it seems like they trade-off the quality in a number of cases.
