As part of its financial earnings report, SEGA Sammy Group announced that it will leverage existing and past IP by means of "remasters, remakes, reboots, etc", aiming to strengthen its core properties by FY2024. The company also makes reference to the so-called 'Super Games' which, if you cast your mind back, may include IP such as Crazy Taxi and Jet Set Radio.
Here's the full quote from SEGA Sammy's report:
"The core strategies of the new medium-term plan center around digging deeper into key existing IPs like Sonic, PHANTASY STAR, YAKUZA (Ryu ga Gotoku), Persona, and Total War and offering these to global markets. We are also taking up the challenge of “Super Games” within five years. Also, given our large pool of IPs that enjoy strong global recognition, we will actively leverage past IPs and further develop them, that is, by means of remasters, remakes, reboots, etc."
SEGA Sammy explains that its medium-term plan is to "break out of the current situation and become a truly sustainable corporate group"; they have labeled this plan 'Beyond the Status Quo'. The company has high ambitions for its upcoming Super Games, stating that the long-term aim is for each game to "bring in sales of ¥100 billion (approx $766 million) over their lifetimes".
The question, of course, is what kind of games we're likely to see in the next couple of years. Could we finally see a Switch port of Persona 4 and 5? Maybe the Yakuza series will make its way onto Nintendo's platform. Who knows!
What games would you like to see from SEGA in the coming months and years? Sound off in the comments below!

Wow, flogging a dead horse much?
And i bet they will be digital only for the first year, then bring out physical if enough people by the digital.
Hopefully they port some stuff they haven't ported a thousand times already, like some Dreamcast games.
The remakes and remasters we know of so far are House of the Dead remake (April 2022), Sonic Origins (June 2022) and Panzer Dragoon II remake (TBA).
I'd guess there'll be something Persona present.
Outrun 2 HD when? 🤞🏽
Ooga Booga reboot confirmed!
Suck it Rocket League! We're playing Boar Polo now!
OT: Look at these new screens from Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Insane! https://twitter.com/NintendoEurope/status/1525045724983046144
@Link-Hero I think Skies of Arcadia will be one of those remasters.
Skies of Arcadia yes please thank you 🙏
Can they finally acknowledge the earlier 3D Sonic games? I’ll take a simple resolution bump of Sonic Heroes at this point.
Sonic Shuffle is coming back y’all.
Phantasy star online episode 1 & 2 remake would be great.
Persona 5 on Switch makes too much sense and would make too much money for it to ever happen.
@BlackenedHalo Insane how they will look in portable mode. I guess like a pixelated mess like the ones in XC2.
On topic there are many games I would like to return. Outrun is surely one of them even without the Ferrari cars. A new Phantasy Star rpg of Daytona would also be cool.
What I really want though are Master System, Game Gear, Saturn and Dreamcast collections of classic games. Most of those games are not easily accessible in modern hardware. I know that those consoles are not as popular as the Mega Drive, but they still have an audience.
The best would be SEGA arcade ports but this is highly unlikely...
I guess it’s time to bring back Vector Man.
Congo Bongo remake please!
SA1 & 2 on Switch Eventually?
@shonenjump86 Dynamite Headdy would be his Player 2...
Bonanza bros could be rebooted into hitman for babies...
If there's a Remaster I would really like to see it's Ecco the Dolphin Defender of the Future which originally came out on Dreamcast then again on PS2.
Billy Hatcher port, Girl's Garden remake and Golden Axe reboot based on the unfinished Xbox 360 demo please.
Oh. And virtual-on.
Nintendo cowers in fear dreading the day Sega decides to release Sonic '06 HD, knowing it would give the boys in blue the kick they need to finally beat them at the console wars.
Ah yes lets Re-everything because originality is dead.
Just give me a Sonic Adventure double pack and I'm good. A standalone Chao Garden game would also work.
Just give me NiGHTS and I'll be happy enough-
I'm all for this kind of stuff IF I can transport games to whatever the Switch successor turns out to be. If I could do that, I'd by nore consoles in general.
Shinobi please sega xxx
Please a good M2 Arcade Perfect port of Golden Axe.
We will see. Sega's said stuff like this before, only for most of such "remasters and remakes" to either be outsourced to other developers with middling results (Panzer Dragoon, House of the Dead) or requiring a Kickstarter to exist (Shenmue 3).
Of course I would LOVE to see more legacy IP: Shining Force (a complete remake of SF III would blow away Western gamers who never got to experience the entire three-part storyline on the Saturn), Skies of Arcadia, Dragon Force, Shinobi, all those iconic coin-ops that dominated Arcades back in the day, LandStalker, and so on. But it's been decades since most of them were seen despite countless fan letters and even user surveys on their own part. Bottom line here is that I'll believe Sega is giving more of its legacy IP another chance when I see it. Just don't pull crap like Valkyria Chronicles Azure or turning the Shining series into ARPG button mash-fests and then claim there was never genuine interest when the fans reject them. Yes, I remember that too, Sega. If you bring back those franchises, do them RIGHT.
In other words, just another day at Sega HQ.
After another hit movie SEGA decides to just redo old stuff.
SEGA has no idea how to approach any type of success.
Gunvalkyrie, anyone? Oh! Enemy Zero! And, Real Sound: Kaze no Regret(Wind of Regret). Oh, and maybe... Seaman duology/dilogy!? Sigh Chances of re-release of these games are 0,02%, probably...
Just release them physically and I'm all for it!
Skies of Arcadia or gtfo
Please revive Love & Berry from NDS.
Anyone else get the feeling the world ended in 1999 and we're just living in a remaster?
I'm not sure if I'm happy or sad that the future of video games is just the past of video games with a touch-up.
...actually...kinda happy...
Music to my ears. I love many of SEGAs IPs. So much untapped potential. The series that have recently returned - Streets of Rage, Sonic Mania and Monsterboy have all been excellent.
@AtlanteanMan It's only middling success if you strategically forget the absolute wins like Sonic Mania, Streets of Rage 4, WonderBoy, MonsterBoy, Persona 4 Remastered and Rome Total War Remastered.
Yakuza is a long stretch. The creator said the Switch is for kids and teens.
Don’t think it’s happening
They should bring back Sonic adventure 1 and 2 also Skies of Arcadia.
I loved the sega ages port of Phantasy Star. I know that Sega Ages is done, but I'd love to see more games along those lines where they make those QoL changes.
I'm also still wishing for a port of Panzer Dragoon Saga and Skies of Arcadia, but I am just wishful thinking now.
@Anti-Matter Yesssssss
How about Ristar and NiGHTS????
Wow, maybe they'll finally do something else besides Yakuza and re-releasing Sonic 2 for the hundredth time.
Persona 1 and 2 please
I'm fine with Sega doing this.
Billy Hatcher anyone?
@anoyonmus The Yakuza creator needs to reaccess that.
@AnonymousWizard A) I was referring to the middling QUALITY of both Panzer Dragoon Remake and HOTD Remake, and B) Streets of Rage 4 was actually outsourced as well (admittedly with far better results). Also, Wonder Boy...developed by Studio Artdink and published by ININ Games and G Choice. Monster Boy...Game Atelier/FDG Entertainment. Persona 4 Remastered...developed by Atlus and published by Atlus USA and Square Enix. I don't really count the Total War series as it's not for consoles. It is a very nice-looking engine, though; Sega has always done Strategy as well as anyone in the industry.
That's right, a lot of those "Sega" games AREN'T anymore (and I guess you were just mistaken regarding Persona; don't worry, it's happened to me, too). It's hard to keep up with all the musical chairs happening anymore with game IPs.
Sega seems to rarely put in-house effort into anything not named "Sonic" or "Yakuza" anymore. But hey, at least they made Super Monkey Ball themselves, right?
@Leprecorn ah, Dynamite Headdy. That would be a great game to bring back.
Best news ever!
@ShadowofTwilight22 I haven't. I'd ask for another Valkyria Chronicles installment but unfortunately the two-plus decade statute of limitations that seems to apply to getting back around to most of their other IPs hasn't run out yet.
@Captain_Toad yeah
Thankfully, he doesn't work at Sega anymore
@ShadowofTwilight22 I can't do anything about how well a given game or series sells (although I CAN say that I showed four co-workers the original Valkyria Chronicles on PS3 when it first came out; EVERY ONE OF THEM purchased their own copy); all I can do is vote with my own wallet and support it.
Oh, and be vocal in asking for more. But I'm sure by now you don't need me to mention that.
I need jet set radio anything
There aren't too many Sega games that I personally think could use new remakes, however one optimistic theory from this could be that remakes will make it easier for sequels to be made which is what I really want.
Please Skies of Arcadia.
No worries. We're both passionate about a common hobby, and we each have our own tastes and viewpoints. Nothing wrong with that. For what it's worth I really hope Sega will at some point once again be a company that delivers to the broad range of gamer interests that they once did. After all, they're the company that introduced me to RPGs (Phantasy Star II) and turn-based strategy (Shining Force). I really hope someone there hasn't forgotten how much of an influence they had on so many gamers' experiences back in the day, or how much we would love to see those days again.
Just give us remakes or remastered of these games Sega, easy money will head your way:
@AtlanteanMan Regardless of who developed the games and published them they are SEGA IPs that have returned to great success. It's simply part of SEGAs buisness model to license their dormant older IPs to other studios and I think it's a far better idea than to let them sit unused for decades.
I'm not sure why you don't include Total War? The development team are an inhouse SEGA studio. Of course if you start to arbitrarily leave out key games and series then of course their line-up looks sparce.
Some recent SEGA developed games include
Yakuza Like a Dragon
Lost Judgement
Virtua Fighter 5 (remake)
Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania
Sakura Taisen
Phantasy Star Online: New Genesis
Puyo Puyo Tetris 2
HumanKind
Warhammer 3 Total War
Two Point Campus
Company of Heroes 3
Endless Dungeon
If you count Atlus, which you should as they are so intigrated into SEGA at this point that they are the same entity and same staff in the same building often credited on working on eachother games... Then we also have Persona 5: Strikers
13 Sentinals
Shin Megami Tensei V
Persona 4 (port)
I’ll take remakes of Phantasy Star I - IV, and/or a newly developed Phantasy Star V.
I hope, that Skies of Arcadia is one of them.
I'll be happy enough if they already put Shenmue for the switch already plus Skies of Arcadia ^ ^
I'd really love to see Shenmue, Yakuza, Virtua Fighter and Daytona USA on Switch.
While the Genesis library has been rereleased to death, Sega making rereleases of Saturn and Dreamcast games is a good idea.
Eternal Champions
@Bunkerneath After watching the intriguing animation in your profile pic, I have a serious question: do you type your comments before or after you change your head? Extra points if your body types while you swap them out.
@CANOEberry no, that’s from Skul the game, I change my pic depending on which game I’m playing. At the mo it’s LEGO Palpatine as playing Lego Star wars
Golden Axe, Shining, Eternal Champions, Ecco the Dolphin, New Phantasy Star, Dragon Force, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Nights, Burning Rangers, Blue Stinger, Astal, Panzer Dragoon please.
I firmly believe that Shinobi is one of SEGA's best I.P. and it pains me to see the franchise's potential being left untapped.
I hope all this talk of revivals is more than lip service. SEGA said this last year and there still hasn't been anything beyond bringing back Streets Of Rage 4. I have to keep reminding myself of all the times they rushed out a Sonic game just to remain patient.
@anoyonmus Yes but the creator Nagoshi was demoted , he was the head of all gaming and greenlit all projects, in fact he held back projects by concentrating on his own Yakuza series.
Anyway since his demotion he has now left SEGA and started a new software company. SEGA has since opened a another development studio in Japan and its here where a lot of these new games will come from. It seems like thay have someone controlling game management in amore diverse way now.
So dont rule out a Switch port of Yakuza just yet...
LONG LIVE SEGA.
@Handsomistic15 I just bought Eternal Champions on the Mega Drive, need a six button pad though all mine are 3 buttons. Makes it hard to pull of all the moves ..
@AnonymousWizard Someone who gets it , so many forget about SEGA's PC output like Total War ( though I would love a console version) Humankind, and such like. Sega where voted best publisher a couple years back I believe to. I feel with Nagoshi gone there being more diverse and the Sonic movies are bringing in much needed cash. Hopefully No3 will do the same and I hope the Streets of Rage movie does the same. It all helps to make them develope games.
Just think SEGA's on a big comeback these past few years and I believe its gonna get better.
@bonjong23 DAYTONA , Lets Go Away ,,, Blue Blue Skies. SEGA
OUTRUN 2023 - GIVE IT TO ME.. SEGA....
Come oooooon Skies of Arcadia!
@Grumblevolcano HOTD 2 is meant to be getting the same treatment too.
Yes, Sega says this nearly annually it feels like. Butt-load of IP’s… leverage.. bla blah..
@judaspete my brother and I played ooga booga joyfully back in the day. Never gets brought up by anyone!
So why exactly are you letting other publishers put out the likes of the Panzer series and more recently House of the dead when you should/could be publishing them yourself??
You killed the Sega Ages line in short order & ONLY had them on switch excluding ps4 and Xbox and on top of that, left tons of Sega classics in the war chest. I don’t get the decision making. At all.
Where’s Crazy Taxi?
Out run?
Jet Set Radio?
Sega rally championship?
Daytona USA?
Etc etc etc
@KITG_GROUP I don’t know if Nintendo even wants Yakuza on the platform anyway.
I think Yakuza won’t come to Switch.
Sonic Adventure games, Chao Garden
I would love to see Valkyria Chronicles 2 and 3 to be remastered on Switch. If I'm not mistaken, VC3 is still Japan exclusive. Valkyria Chronicles is easily my favorite non-Atlus Sega franchise.
Please Sega, Astal and the clockwork knight games. Please!
Sega, it’s long overdue and time for a new:
etc. please & thank you.
… Wun can only hope!
The future of gaming is yesteryear. Someone should make that a slogan because it sure defines the majority of games released on Nintendo Switch. 🤨
SEGA have said this befofe. What were the last couple of games they were talking about, Crazy Taxi and Jet Grind Radio?
I just want more Golden Axe and Altered Beast.
I reckon Golden Axe would be perfect for a Tecmo Koei Warriors game.
Phantasy star and jet set radio pls thanks.
@NinChocolate Me too actually. So factoring in you, me, and our brothers, the total number of people that remember Ooga Booga is probably somewhere around 7.
By any chance did you two also play Heavy Metal: Geomatrix? Because that is another goofy, fun Dreamcast game no one ever talks about.
Nights please
They say this every couple of years and the only thing it amounts to is lending out the IP’s to someone else so they can do it.
I genuinely want a proper port of Sonic Unleashed.
It's such a beautiful game, even today, that simply bit off more than the hardware it ran on could chew.
It even ran at a lower resolution (880x720).
Modern resolutions, stable framerate and responsive controls and maybe a few balancing touches here and there.
@judaspete Lol, that’s probably a fact. I haven’t heard of that one.. I’ll have to look it up tho
Sonic Unleashed and Generations run fairly well on Xbox series X
I think projects like Origins where they port thier classics; hopefully in a manner that lets them stay available.
It’s really just ensuring most of thier IP can be played on a current machine.
I’d love to see a SMT Collection, or Sakura Wars brought over.
And of course a full complete Shining Force 3
@Abeedo Nintendo fanbase all gangsta like until SEGA starts making good games
@judaspete
i genuinely thought i was the only person on the planet that knew of ooga booga until now haha.
also i really hope we see some other cool older games reamstered / rebooted...Skies of Arcadia, anyone?
Let’s hope SEGA takes a better approach to this than Nintendo.
Then again, with SEGA, anything can be possible, even the impossible.
Not really related but maybe related, but I would love to see a new Fantasy Zone by DotEmu or something. The series has some true gems in there (especially the second one's arcade remake!).
A new Ecco the Dolphin made as a metroidvania would be nice.
Prepare to be underwhelmed! I really do hope they can increase the quality and actually release great things soon.
Yakuza apparently did appear on Wii U (a port of 1+2), but only in Japan. Which is why nobody noticed.
@anoyonmus do you think because of the companies past connection to the society and might still have
