Random: Daisy Fans Are Worried She's Been Dropped From Mario Strikers

I'm sure they'll do that free DLC approach with her arriving a month later or something, any first party sports game on switch seems to do it after all

I'm 100% sure she will be added as free DLC within 2 weeks.

I really hope they don't add her in an update months later. There's no conceivable reason why we should have to wait extra time to play as our favorite characters. So I hope she's just unlockable in game.

No? She acts nothing like Peach and has a completely different personality--she's loud, crass, and in your face. If anything, Rosalina is just Peach in a blue dress because those two act practically the same--calm, quiet, and reserved. Whether you like Daisy or not, she's a Mario spin-off regular and removing her would be like removing Amy from a Sonic game. If Waluigi was missing, the internet would have a collective meltdown just like when he was missing from Mario Kart 7 and Smash Ultimate. The double standards are ridiculous. Everyone should be able to play as their favorite characters. Period.

And with good reason, I'm sure she will be in the game at some point no doubt but not in the base roster when this is her thing still sucks.

Did strike me as a weird exclusion. I'm guessing she'll be patched in later but still.

Daisy is the voice and the spirit of the Strikers series, it's strange that she's missing from the starting lineup.

Not saying she won't be added as DLC, but I think people are being overconfident here. Everyone was so certain back in 2018 that Super Mario Party would get updates to add more boards beyond the measly four, but that never happened. The verdict is still out on whether or not Superstars will get any post-launch DLC.

I've also seen a lot of people get mad at those complaining about the amount of content, saying, "The game isn't even out yet! You shouldn't be judging it when you haven't played it!" But with Nintendo, what you see is what you get. I go into almost every Nintendo game nowadays expecting at least one more world before the final boss, one more secret unlockable character, a hidden New Game Plus you unlock after beating it on normal mode. But that almost never happens. I've learned if it's not in the trailers, don't be expecting it, because there isn't gonna be as much content as you'd like.

Yeah, Next Level Games is a really good studio, and people have been wanting a new Strikers game for over a decade now, so I understand people wanting to support the developers and not dissuade people from buying it. But we've seen this pattern over and over again with Nintendo, and it's frustrating to see fans in denial, harassing people who are complaining about it. All that does is make the discourse turn toxic and enable Nintendo in their malpractice.

Insanity is Nintendo doing the same thing over again and fans expecting different results. I'm not trying to kill anyone's hype, but let's be realistic here. People complaining when the game isn't even out yet have very valid reasons for doing so. Nintendo has already set the precedent. Nintendo's multiplayer games releasing with light content and getting meager updates drip-fed to us that still leave the game feeling incomplete when all is said and done is more predictable than their Nintendo Direct schedules.

All they had to do was add Daisy and an extra character (Diddy Kong) to the roster to keep it even, but NOOOOO giving her a sass nerf wasn't enough for Nintendo! ...hopefully she gets added in later with some sass still left in her.

People love to moan. Lets wait and see what the game does with possible unlockable characters (e.g diddy kong, bowser jnr, etc) or updates/DLC.

I feel smash has raised people's expectations to have so many characters playable.

I'm just gonna enjoy finally getting a new mario soccer game with online play and new dynamics (team tackle could be huge)

the thing with the dlc approach is that as much as we expect it from nintendo now, they didnt promise anything and can easily get away with doing nothing with the game after launch. it happened with super mario party, it could happen again with switch sports after golf, and it could happen with battle league

sure all of their sports games came with dlc after launch. but if its not something they promise ahead of time, remain skeptical

It has nothing to do with Smash. So far, the game appears to have less characters than Strikers Charged. A Wii game from 15 years ago.

Not only is Daisy missing, but so is Bowser Jr, Diddy Kong, and Petey Piranha. As well as sidekick mob characters like Koopa Troopas, Shy Guys, and Boos. In fact, the only new character to the series is Rosalina. One new character.

I'm not saying the game will be terrible, I'm merely calling it like I see it. The game's character selection is a step down from the previous game in the series from what we've seen so far. Unless there's unlockable characters, then it's going to be worse. We shouldn't have to wait for months to play as our favorite characters.

@Snatcher Daisy hasn't been in a mainline Mario games since the game she was introduced in (Super Mario Land). She has been in all the sports (including MarioKart) an party games up until now though. But mostly as an alternative for Peach.

Now we have an actual new female character (Rosalina) in this game. So there is no real need for Daisy.

But like I said before, I'm sure she'll be added later.

@Not_Soos Not really sure about the "everything on the trailer is all there will be on the game". I remember that they didn't show Bowser's Kingdom, Moon Kingdom or Mushroom Kingdom for Mario Odyssey (or even Lake Kingdom), just like they didn't show any post game content for Kirby games, any suit except the first one for Metroid Dread, the last couple of character of Warioware, just to name a few. Of course for the mutiplayer based ones (Sports, minigames, ecc...) is better to show everything there will be, in my opinion, unless an unlockable is something too cool to know in advance.

@JR150 the characters you mention were unlockable..........why not wait and see whats actually in the game before 'saying it as you see it'.

I can see alot of people calling for more characters/captains to choose from and Favs such as Daisy to be included. I am sure there will be additions or unlockable but 10 is more than the previous entries at the start and a decent selection:

Super Mario Strikers- 8 Characters and 1 unlockable

Mario Strikers charged- 9 characters and 3 unlockable

People have no patience anymore.

@sanderev True she hasn't been in a mainline mario game, but doesn't that show how much she is loved? If she got such fan reception wile only being in spin off? Granted rose was only in one game and is loved, she is my favorite out of all of them.

I don’t know why, but I prefer Daisy to Peach. I would be a little let down if she added after, or not at all. Having said that, I will still buy the game at some point. I’m not a huge football fan, so this arcade style football game is perfect for me.

@Snatcher hey Dude, great to hear from you. Based on previous Mario Soccer entry's the selection is more at the start and could have further through unlockables or DLC.

Smash had an unbelievable amount of content and I think many fans expect Nintendo to do the same with all its games. It certainly raised the bar.

Having owned and still play both gamecube/wii versions I feel 10 captains is plenty and am just excited for a new entry with new dynamics. I'm curious how new gear/costumes might be huge as well in player stats.

Maybe we can play online when its out 😀

That makes sense, smash did do a lot in terms of content. I don't think this game will have a lot of content, and I think 10 characters are plenty actually, I just would like the basics, and it would suck if one of my favorites who was in the last game, just gets cut.

But I think its pretty safe(Ish) to say they will probably be DLC, or not.

She's gonna be in the game. Free dlc or base game. But it's strange if she's not in the base game. She's been a stable since MP3 and too completely remove her from the base game is super weird

The thing is with DLCs we have to wait long time why wouldn't they add her she was in the original mario strikers game.

But yeah, it's absolutely bizarre how she's not really been shown at all when she was somewhat of a face for Mario Strikers as a whole: bold, in your face and LOUD. However, I have full confidence she'll be in the game in some way. One, because IT'S DAISY and two, I can't remember where I saw this but someone did some sleuthing in the reveal trailer and saw characters with Daisy coloured kits just like it was in the original games. In short: it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when.

Honestly I know how they feel, I feel the same way with Yoshi in the new Mario + Rabbids game. I don't want to buy that game either until they put Yoshi back in since he was part of the OG squad.

Lucky for me that he's enough of a staple character to be a shoe in for sports games though, but unfortunately for me he's much less likely to be added into Mario + Rabbids 2 in an update than Daisy is in Mario Strikers Battle League.

I'm sure she'll be added back in. But personally I'm still more concerned about the game possibly being forced by Nintendo to have the finish-it-later approach like tennis and golf did and the initial experience feeling extremely shallow as a result, which made me not want to return to those games after playing them for like...2, 3 days or so. No amount of free updates can wash away that initial sour flavor.

The lack of Daisy has been shocking since day one honestly...

She is the spin-off charmy sport obsessed princess fine tuned to fit in this kind of games. Years of spin-off training wasted, poor thing ;w;

...and jokes aside, as a Daisy fan this bother me regardless if she will get in as DLC. The simple fact they demoted her from main cast to later add-on (at best) speak volumes on how they are moving Rosalinda up as the second main princess and are likely planning to use Daisy less moving forward.

@BakaKnight It's especially bad in this game in my opinion because she actually has the personality to fit in with this game. If this happened in say, golf, it would have made a bit more sense to me (though still would have been extremely dumb).

But yeah I can totally agree with you. Daisy fans already have to deal with her being a spin off only character, and now it seems she's being cast aside even for that. Though I don't think this is going to happen too often. Remember, they didn't include Waluigi in Mario Kart 7 either but has been in every Mario sports/kart game since. When Daisy stops appearing in sports games more and more, that's when I'd begin to worry about this. This is only a single game so far, so I don't think you have too much to worry about yet on that regard.

More seriously, Nintendo’s tweet only showed 4 characters. We know there’s at least 6 more who didn’t get that character art treatment. Until the game ships, we don’t know for certain that she’s not in the base game (though yeah her absence from any promo clips does make it seem increasingly unlikely).

But let’s not let that stand in the way of jumping to conclusions, yeah?

As of right now, it is extremely likely Daisy is not in the base game, unless she's unlockable, which hasn't really been a thing in Mario sports games for a while now I think.

I doubt it, but it is very annoying. However, Rosalina has more appeal so it is the right move by marketing standards. Similar moves were made in Smash Bros, Rosa appeared as a fighter before Daisy did despite Daisy being an earlier legacy character.

Total combined sales of comparable original Mario series games:

SML 1&2 = 29,320,000 copies
SMW 1&2 = 24,730,000 copies
SMB 2&3 = 24,740,000 copies

Daisy shouldn't be treated as if she is so obscure and an insignificant part of Mario's history.

[edit] Hang on, now I'm questioning if Daisy was in SML2. But even if not and you only compare SML1, that still outsold SMB3 and nearly as many as SMW1. And thats even more impressive being that SMW was a pack in for SNES launch.

Just as strange as Waluigi not being in Mario Kart 7. Although I’m sure Daisy will be added in at some point. Just odd that a character that is usually a mainstay in the spin-off games isn’t here. Still very possible that she is in put Nintendo just hasn’t shown her off yet for whatever reason.

Nina Williams was a later addition to Tekken 7 despite being in every game beforehand. There's a lack of female characters in this game — a lack of characters in general — I'll be shocked if Daisy isn't introduced later.

HOWEVER! I have a different bone to pick with Next Level Games. Why didn't they include her in Luigi's Mansion 3, considering the other cast? There are't many opportunities for her but given that she's close to Luigi, why keep em apart? Eh, bring both Daisy and Hellen Gravely in as playable, why not.

I don't know if this is just a meme that NL are taking a bit too seriously, but I seriously doubt Daisy won't appear. For better or worse she's been in nearly every Mario Kart/Party/sports game for two decades. Where's Pauline at, is what I'd like to know.

@JR150 Rosalina and Peach are very different. Rosalina is a space captain and single mum to thousands of little star creatures, and Peach is princess of the Mushroom Kingdom. Rosalina's character reflects a maternal streak and a sense of inner loneliness, neither of which are parts of who Peach is, and her character was arguably more extensively developed in her first appearance than Peach, much as I love her, has been developed in all the time she's been around.

I've never understood why they've been doing this in recent series. Off the top of my head is the fact that Diddy Kong is still not in Mario Kart 8, but we legitimately have five different versions of Mario in it......... He shouldn't have even needed the opporunity for DLC, he should have been in the base game.

Some of the other character rosters on other recent sports games and Mario parties have been slimmed down as well. Just doesn't make sense.

Just went through that Twitter thread, and WTH is up with all the Toad hate? He's been around since the (near) beginning and is unique looking compared to the rest of the main cast (I know this is ironic to say because all Toads look alike, but I mean comparatively to Mario, Bowser, Peach, Yoshi etc)

To me Daisy is a brunette Peach and Rosalina is space Peach. And people freaking out, but you never know if she's unlockable or something. People panic so quickly nowadays

@Rosalinho You have to dig deep to learn that. From an casual outsiders perspective, she's just a Peach that floats. She looks more alike to Peach than Daisy does to her.

@Rosalinho Gotta agree with AlexanderDaniels on this one. I always loved Rosalina and her backstory and all that, especially since she's one of the very few Mario characters to actually have a bit of a deeper story to her (that I wish they would explore more, or give similar backstories to more of the cast).

But from a casual perspective, she and Peach are extremely alike. As such, I do find it slightly confusing why they put Rosalina into Strikers over Daisy, even if Rosalina is the more canon character. In that casual perspective, there's two very similar girls on the field.

Personally? Normally I wouldn't even mind that much, but for Strikers it is a little weird, because Daisy does fit the role much more, and I have a hard time imagining Rosalina being anywhere close to being angry enough to fit with the Strikers theming. She's the embodiment of calmness, anger just doesn't suit her. It works perfectly fine for Daisy.

...not that I don't welcome Rosalina. I'm glad she's here! But having her in specifically Strikers over Daisy... nah. Any other Mario sports game, sure, but not Strikers, that's Daisy territory!

All of this talk about the relevance of these characters got me thinking: half of these characters haven’t been in a mainline Mario game in the 21st century. Why is there such a disconnect between the platformers and the spin-offs? A cameo here or there wouldn’t take that long to do right, and it would mean a lot to many people…
Also, if we’re being completely fair here, Daisy has about as much relevance as Waluigi, and Nintendo only kept him in to avoid backlash
from challenged 10 year olds.

@JakedaArbok It's just Nintendo's philosophy, every game is largely meant to be its own thing. The thoughtful use of characters are a part of it.

There's little references here and there, but largely the characters who appear are there because the provide a necessary part of the game. Like Pauline appeared in Odyssey not as a cameo but only as a major NPC of New Donk City. Wario appeared in Super Mario 64DS as a major playable character.

In 3D Mario, Luigi doesn't even always appear. I think when a game starts to lean on cameos and references for the sake of it kind of introduces a bit of cheapness and tackiness.

I think it's tacky if a character is going to appear in a game purely to please a section of a fanbase rather than because they're a meaningful part of the game design or scenario/setting. Just feels like Sonic where they put Silver the Hedgehog or Blaze the Cat into scenarios that they shouldn't really be in, like Forces or Sonic 06.

I guarantee she’ll be in a DLC update. Considering Tennis and Golf added characters in waves following the initial release, good odds they’ll do the same. And Daisy is a good one to get people excited for a DLC wave.

I do think it’s odd though. She’s been a consistent character choice for all sports and party games that I I usually just assume she’s going to be in every one of these games.

Nobody's going to mention the absence of the bloodbath causing Chain Chomp?
