Destructive racer Wreckfest will be making its way to the Nintendo Switch on June 21st, publisher THQ Nordic has announced. The game will cost $39.99 / £34.99.
Originally released on PC in 2018 before arriving on consoles starting 2019, Wreckfest is said to be a spiritual successor to the FlatOut series and features a range of frankly ridiculous vehicles including school buses, crop harvesters, lawn mowers, and more.
The Nintendo Switch version will boast multiplayer for up to 16 players online, alongside extensive single-player tournaments with gameplay hitting a steady 30fps. It will come bundled with two seasons' worth of content, with season 1 encompassing 20 "crazy and iconic" vehicles, 20 roof decorations, and a car customisation pack. Season 2 offers up an additional 12 vehicles.
Here's a rundown of what to expect from THQ Nordic:
- Awesome Cars – Old, banged-up, patched-together cars that simply ooze style! From old American heavy-hitters to agile Europeans and fun Asians, you won’t find anything like this in other games.
- Meaningful Customization – Change not only the look of your cars but also upgrade their body armor
- Receive free updates that add new tracks and tournament challenges with unique rewards (please note: tournaments will be a free upgrade, available post-launch)
- Multiplayer – Wreck your friends online and take racing to the limit while chasing for demolition dominance!
Wreckfest is sure to bring back nostalgic memories of FlatOut on the Wii - be sure to let us know if you're planning on picking this one up in the comments.

Great news - Interested to see how this runs, I had heard that since after it was announced they were having a few issues getting the game running up to par. Hopefully they have been resolved upon it's release..
"From old American heavy-hitters to agile Europeans and fun Asians"
Someone give this marketing genius a raise.
Neat! Gonna keep an eye on this. I loved Destruction Derby back in the day and I've been missing games like that. Hope this will let me relive those DD times!
Remember playing the Destruction Derby demo from the Playstation Magazine over and over again, because buying the full game was too expensive until it turned up on platinum.
Might keep an eye on this
cute tagline. Can't see this preforming well on Switch...we'll see.
I love myself a crazy wreck driving game, would definitely check this one out. Wreckless driving games are usually uncommon nowadays, the closest we got to one on the Switch are Burnout Paradise, Fast RMX, and Cruis'n Blast which are gear more towards sim or arcade racing than actually wrecking.
Yayyyyy I have been googling this almost daily scared it may have been cancelled I really miss this game ever since I sold my PS4 can’t wait to play it again on Switch so much fun!!! (I was even considering buying a steamdeck just to play it)
NOOOOWWW with added blurriness! (probably - but lets hope for the best)
Gives me Destruction Derby vibes, something that is sorely lacking in today's gaming landscape, but the cars look like they would feel a bit too light for my tastes. A bit too silly physics. Could be wrong though.
This is a day one purchase if it runs well!
That tag line reminds me of Cassie from crush crush.
@Savino yes, they’re taken from the teaser trailer which has been captured on docked Switch.
I hope the crashing physics have remained fully intact and not introduced a bunch of pre-determined destructions, and do whatever they need (like reducing the numbers of cars on track) to hit locked 30. It’s too bad that these “impossible” ports never have demos. After Dying Light (amazing) my standards for these ports are a bit higher.
I want twisted metal or something like it on switch.
It does say ''captured on Switch'' on the bottom just for a few seconds.. I'd be very impressed if this runs well.
@Daniel36 Played the heck out of this on PS4. One of my favorite racing games ever, just a blast to play. The physics are excellent.
Loved this on PS4, might double dip if it runs well enough!
"Wreckfest is sure to bring back nostalgic memories of FlatOut on the Wii"
Does anyone really have nostalgic memories of the Wii version of Flatout?
I somehow only saw the words "fun asians" followed by "agile europeans" and was very worried for a moment
This game is a blast to play. I have it on Xbox (I think it's on Game Pass too) and I've been waiting for this since it got teased year's ago for Switch. I'm glad it didn't get forgotten or cancelled. It also sounds like this'll be some sort of deluxe/ultimate edition with all the DLC included.
Niiiiiceeeeeee
Loved Flat Out games. Will surely check this one out.
Brilliant game. If it runs at all well. Count me in.
I have this on PS4, it is brilliant.
Highly recommended to any racing fan.
even my ryzen 5 2600 struggles with this game. car count is higher on PC though.
making this run well on the switch is a miracle
I love this game on PS5. Graphically very impressive and playable.
If the core gameplay remains intact, it will be a hit on Switch.
I was sure that the switch pro existed when I saw this announced.
@Yosher You my friend are in for a treat, this game is like DD on steroids in the fanciest dress imaginable. The sense of weight the cars have is palpable, which makes the collisions sooooo satisfying.
Biggest shock however is what a component racer this really is. It’s no ACC, but it actually feels great to race clean??? Not what you expect from what is essentially a glorified banger racing game!
🧊 Cool tagline from my favourite of his albums.
@Slapsillium That sounds great! Only thing I worry about is how much it will matter that you won't be able to dose the amount of gas you give due to the shoulder buttons Switch is stuck with, but other than that this game should hopefully be a blast even on Nintendo's system!
@SMH88 Cool cool. From the short clip it seemed a bit bouncy, but if you say they're good, then I might just give this a shot. Depends on the price.
@Slapsillium But Destruction Derby is better in one VERY IMPORTANT aspect: the championship. You don´t compete in isolated events. You compete in a great championship with simultaneous classes challenging each other at the same time. The Destruction Derby championship structure is NEAR PERFECT. I miss Destruction Derby 1 (playstation) SO MUCH. I love championship in a race game. I don´t like "events".
@Rykdrew Good catch, I couldn’t agree more. I don’t know why more racing games don’t just give you a multi race championship and a leaderboard, simple. It’s why I never really got on with the Forza games, so many isolated races/events, and is yet another reason why I rate ACC so highly.
As an aside, but a relevant one given this is a Nintendo site, I love me some Mario Kart, but whatever happened to the multi cup championships you used to be able to unlock after beating everything? I can’t remember if it was MK64 or Double Dash that had it but I really do miss that mode so much.
@Yosher Yeah I’m not sure how well that will work? Considering the game doesn’t pitch itself as a sim or even sim light racer, there are times in Wreckfest where you’re fastest by regulating your application of throttle, such as through longer turns and when racing on looser surfaces.
