Re: Gallery: Take a Look at the Super Mario Happy Meal Toys Coming to the UK

jeffri

I have the coin block one, it has the iconic coin sound when pressed. Pretty cool for a happy meal toys, though the battery is dead now. Since happy meal is for kids, it took a little courage when a grown man order one.

I'm not a figure collector though, but some Figma and Nendoroid had me on the edge a lot of time. Some Amiibo too, but I wish they had a better paint job.

Re: Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer Dominates Japanese Charts, Boosts 3DS Sales

jeffri

Animal Crossing is killing it, even the old game is still on chart. I thought AC:HHD is a bad idea, but Nintendo clearly know their market better than anyone. Congrats Animal Crossing! Now it will be interesting to see how Amiibo Festival will do, though we might never know as it's a free to play game.

Splatoon is still strong, wonder if next week will see a boost with the big update. Wii U looks to have a >10k baseline now, which is a good thing.

Hope Fire Emblem could stay on the chart for a long time too.

Re: Splatoon And Nintendo Dominated Japanese Retail During June

jeffri

Awesome for Nintendo! Well deserved Splatoon.

Sony hardware sells really good lately, especially PS4, though the software sales seems to be more spread out, while Wii U is more concentrated. 3DS is still killing it, and AC:HHD result this week will be pretty crazy too it seems.

Surprised to see Boxboy actually have physical release there.

Re: Nintendo Stock Value Rises Following Better Than Expected Sales, Amid Calls For A Speedy Leadership Decision

jeffri

Good for Nintendo. But I genuinely doubt their smartphone game will be a success, it's not like they are making the next Pokemon, Mario or Animal Crossing on smartphone. Probably just a spin-off or just a small experience from a full game (like the barrel flying section on DKC, which will work very well on touchscreen). When that happens, I'm not sure how the investor will react.

Re: Yo-Kai Watch Busters and 3DS Continue to Rule in Japan

jeffri

Another million seller for 3DS in Japan alone! Congrats to Yokai Watch Buster. Monster Hunter X will be the next, and then Yokai Watch 3, then maybe a new Pokemon before 3DS ended its lifespan. Worldwide, Fire Emblem Fates should be a million seller, Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer seems to be another potential too. Then there is Bravely Second that could go close to a million. Then there's two Dragon Quest title incoming. Good times for 3DS.

Also glad to see Splatoon is still strong. Hope Wii U could keep the five figures, maybe next week Splatoon update could keep it in that number. Not sure how incoming Devil Third will affect Wii U though, hopefully a small boost too.

Re: Nintendo NX Might Be The First Social VR Platform, Claims Analyst Firm Digi-Capital

jeffri

I don't know why people think VR can be big, it won't and will only exists as niche product. I think it'll go where 3D TV is, maybe a bit better with game company support, but it won't go mainstream. It's existence on the market will be Kinect/Move level at best. Nintendo will be too stupid to pursue this path, so it won't happen, and it's also too expensive for Nintendo.

Re: Video: The Original Starter Pokémon Look Simply Unreal On This Game Engine

jeffri

Umm... No. That Charmander looks like a clay doll walking around realistic environment, which is as lifeless as it could get. A full 3D Pokemon game will be pretty awesome, though surely in cartoony world instead of realistic. The fire effect is also pretty bad, Charmander tail is lit all the time, while the demo there showing fire effect tailing her instead. And the flamethrower is... well, not a flamethrower at all. Not impressed.

That said, kudos to this guy effort.

Re: Yoshi's Woolly World Has Limited Impact in Japan as Yo-Kai Watch Busters Dominates

jeffri

I don't think Yoshi is that big, so it looks like it does reasonably well. It should have some legs and would easily move past 100k, hopefully. Splatoon legs (or tentacles) is really good, it'll probably stay in the charts for a long time. Wii U is still in 5 figures, hopefully it'll stay like that, though it's probably return to 4 figures next week or the week after that, until Super Mario Maker.

Re: Don't Worry, Samus Will Be In Metroid Prime: Federation Force

jeffri

Well, if you consider the game is in Metroid Prime universe, obviously the main character of the series will make a cameo, it's bound to happen. The question is of course, whether the role she played in the game is significant or just as some easter eggs.

Regardless, I hope the game reception can turn around a bit once new information is revealed.

Re: If Nintendo Did Decide To Make A Smartphone, We'd Want It To Look Like This

jeffri

Nah, 3DS XL is already uncomfortable enough to play in the long run, this looks even more terrible. The stereo camera is also in weird position, that will require the phone to be held vertically, while the game button is on the side, which means the stereo camera can't be used with game/AR where the phone need to be held horizontally.

Something with clamshell or slider form factor is preferable if Nintendo want to make a phone.

Re: Interview: Senran Kagura Producer Kenichirō Takaki Bares All

jeffri

I think people need to get over the over-sexualized stuff, it's not like these ecchi games sells like a hot cake, but they exists comfortably in their niche market. Some, even adult games, become big in other form because they have other qualities instead of just sex appeal, like Fate/Stay Night anime for example. So it can't be more incorrect to suggest it's not a good game because it highlights some... melons...

I honestly enjoy these ecchi games myself, though I haven't get Burst yet. Hopefully, there is a discount when this released, so I can finally take it (I have been waiting for one). Sure, it's not a game you'll want to play in public though...

Re: The Great Ace Attorney and Yo-Kai Watch Lead The Way for 3DS in Japan

jeffri

Yokai Watch doing crazy well, even if it's just a spin-off. Just imagine how well Yokai Watch 3 will do, it might surpass even Pokemon in Japan. With Monster Hunter X later this year, 3DS seems set to end this year pretty well in Japan.

Decent result for The Great Ace Attorney. Localisation please Capcom! Even digital only release is fine, I just want to play.

Splatoon still holding well, hope it has the staying power of Mario Kart 8 or better. Wii U keep decreasing, I hope it could stay above 10k, maybe Yoshi could help. Fire Emblem, I was hoping for better, but seems to have decent legs so far, hopefully it'll stay that way.

Re: Obituary: Satoru Iwata

jeffri

Thanks for the well-written article.

I still can't believe Mr. Iwata that we all know and love is now gone. Too young. R.I.P Mr Iwata.

Re: Nintendo President Satoru Iwata Passes Away Aged 55

jeffri

This totally came out of no where, shocking. Not that there is no sign of that, we haven't seen Iwata appearance lately, but still...

Mr. Satoru Iwata, you will be deeply missed and won't be forgotten. Thank you for everything. Rest in peace. My thoughts are for his family, friends and everyone at Nintendo.

I just feel like something is missing from me. I really like Mr. Iwata, his presentation in Nintendo Direct, his low profile way of talking, like he is not a CEO but a friend. It's a sad day, we just lost a truly great man. My eyes is teary right now.

Re: Fire Emblem Fates Leads Japanese Charts Alongside Rhythm Heaven and Splatoon

jeffri

Happy to see Fire Emblem continue to do well. The limited edition probably sold out already, which would explain the absence from the chart. Would be a good relief for IS, after the failure of Code Name STEAM.

Splatoon is still holding really well and looks like it will have a decent long legs. Nintendo really strike a gold with that. Wii U is slowly declining after the Splatoon boost, but stay in five figures which is a good thing. Hopefully, Yoshi Woolly World will give it another boost. And who knows how Splatoon will do after the August update, perhaps another boost as people complained with lack of content will finally get it.

PS4 is doing really well and it's such a mistery, the software chart doesn't reflect the many unit of hardware sold. But having PS4 and Wii U doing great right now at least proved that home console market in Japan is still alive, which is a good thing. Xbox though, I don't know why they still insist of selling in Japan.

Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (Wii U eShop / N64)

jeffri

Had to say I'm not that impressed when playing this on 3DS for the first time, to me, ALBW is much better. That said, I still enjoyed the game. It's a bit overrated for me, though it's easily an 8 if I had to give a score.

Haven't played Majora Mask yet, my 3DS catridge didn't work for some reason.
