Square Enix has confirmed that Monster Hunter-wannabe Final Fantasy Explorers is coming to the west next year.
The company has released an announce trailer - shown below - which lists the release date as January 26th 2016. Given that Square had gone quiet on the title during most of 2015, many had assumed it was remaining exclusive to Japan - especially after it wasn't shown off at this year's E3.
We went hands-on with the Japanese version of the game last year, and found it a little bit disappointing. Hopefully the western release will change our perception a little.

Not especially interested in this since by all accounts it came out pretty poorly, but maybe they can do some further work on it during localization. 3D support would be nice, for one. Maybe on the New 3DS only, if that's necessary?
Haven't gotten around to playing it but I am among the people who imported it. As well as the eShop version of FF1 (though it was originally free with this game, I had to pay for it)/
HOORAYYYYYY
@Drac_Mazoku !!
I've been waiting for this!
I'm rather interested in this one, and it bodes well for DQXI I hope.
For some reason the title and photo made me think "World of Final Fantasy" and I thought NX was in line for another port. I guess 3DS will be getting this when PS4 and Vita get the other newer one.
Great to see it localized.
Looks higher quality than Monster Hunter, and it's FF, something I actually care about. I'll be keeping an eye out for this one.
Is it me, or did the trailer only mention local mode? Doesn't it have online?
What was the last Final Fantasy game any of you legitimately enjoyed? One that brought the whole package.. not just one that continued a story you enjoyed or felt compelled to play just because it was a +1 increment.
More importantly, what's the current state of JRPGs?
It's about friggin time...
Also, since it was said to be so crappy in the review, I'm not as excited to buy it anymore. Though if it's cheap, it might be good as a throwaway title. For a very low price, of course.
You know, Europe is part of the West, too. :rolleyes:
@Captain_Gonru I haven't been able to get into MH4U as much as 3 because I rely too much on multiplayer... One of these days I'll become the solo hunter I once was!
Kind of excited for this, the reviews aren't that great but maybe they will fix the few simple things that kinda killed the experience(from what I've read) before it comes here.
Shows how opinions differ. NWR guys gave a mostly positive review on the Japanaese demo, you guys didn't like it. It's FF, so I'll probably give it a look.
definitely getting this. i like final fantasy games.
one of the few upcoming games for 3DS that actually interest me
@OneBagTravel For me the last main titled one I enjoyed was FF12. I felt that the Story and single player MMO experience went well together and it would have been 100% perfect if the head directed hadn't left halfway through the project (Which is understandable why he did). People always bring up the "game-just-plays-itself" argument, but whenever I bring up the Gambit System 8/10 they didn't know you could turn them off.
My friend downloaded it on his Japanese 3DS. To be honest it has potential to be WAY better then Monster Hunter, but it tries to follow MH so bad it just becomes another less supirior MH wannabe clone.
@OneBagTravel
FF XIV
JRPGs are as they've always been. Not for everyone. Great for those that enjoy them.
@Captain_Gonru
Monster Hunter is actually not dependent on multiplayer at all.
It's highly recommended, and definitely the most fun and the preferred way to play of many, but the game has a fantastic single player campaign that is completely independent of online. And most people get at least 100 hours just from that. Heck, MH3U on 3DS didn't even have online- most people had to play alone
first rpg on the 3ds i realy dont care about.dont even know why,i just dont like it.
29th of january for europe according to siliconera.
bwahahaha... bought it two months ago. I'm enjoying it so i'll likely double dip.
@Neram I'm with you on that fhe ff universe was more appealing to me rather than the mh universe.
Don't really care about this, but happy for anyone who does. I just want Dragon Quest, to be honest
@Neram What? I what possible way does this look higher quality than Monster Hunter?
Yessss
Let's seee I haven't quite finished MH3, I just got MH4, cross is on the way. Meanwhile I've hated just about everything squeenix has done with the FF name since... FFX sooooooo pass.
Well this is a interesting development!!!!!!!! I didn't think this game would come Stateside, but I have been interested in maybe giving it a whirl (and I'd imagine that the better it sells, the greater a chance XI comes west, like others have said) So...damn you Square Enix....you got me. Also it comes out in (usually) the worst month for gaming, so huzzah! (Not like I won't still be playing Fallout 4 to care about anything else...hehe...yeah...)
@OneBagTravel The last main series FF game I enjoyed was VII (I like what I've played of IX, but I haven't played enough to include it). I also liked what I played of XIV: A Realm Reborn, but I'm not really counting that since it's an MMO. There have been a few fun side games, but Final Fantasy really isn't what it used to be. I might look into this one, but I won't be getting my hopes very high for it.
Held out from fantasy life for this! Only took a year!!! So many awesome titles goes RPG fan! This is why PS Vita is getting obliterated in the market!
huh... 26th of Jan 1 day befor my B day... this may be my 25th bday gift lol thats iff its the UK relece date T_T
i think this game looks quite fun personly... been graving a new Chrystal Chronical like game and am glad this is comeing out of Japan Only thing that really annoyes me is the No 3D...
Yay! !this is definitely great news. I have been waiting for a Phantasy Star Online type of game and if this is best we can do well not too bad then. Cant wait!
Wow I looked up the price for this game and its 14040 yen in Japan. That converts to 113.00 dollars in the united States **shock**
@OneBagTravel FF14 has it all. Ridiculous time sink.
So this gets localisation but eight Dragon Quest in a row don't? This is why I don't like SE. If it wasn't for Nintendo, we would still be waiting for the DS remake of 6 and 9 too. But "JRPGs don't sell in the West". So just send more FF instead. Idiots.
@LordGeovanni They are bringing DQ7 & DQ8 3DS to the west soon alongside this and Bravely Second.
@retro_player_22
This is news to me. Not to doubt you, ( I want it to be true !) but do you have a source?
@LordGeovanni DQ 7&8 have not been confirmed. Someone from SE made a public comment in France that they were coming to France, which means Europe as a whole, which means English translation, and likely North America. The only official comment from SE after this happened is that nothing is confirmed yet.
@LordGeovanni Here though likely they'll be coming to EU first before NA.
