Re: Editorial: Mandatory Memory Cards for Switch Retail Games is a Messy Solution

jeffri

To be honest, micro SD requirement isn't such a big issue I think. Flash memory isn't cheap... so I don't see Nintendo will give 128GB options or something. At least, Nintendo opted for a standard micro SD card that we can find quite affordable right now and the price will be going down every year (some might even have spare micro SD lying around). Compare that to Apple for instance, adding $100 for each 128GB and no expansion whatsoever. Comparing to PS4 or Xbox One, they used traditional HDD, so in a way, it's kinda unfair to compare them to Switch portable nature (Wii U, yes, 32GB sucks there).

Besides, it's not like every game going forward will require this. I think Nintendo just give 3rd party the option and it depends entirely to each of them to think if adding additional data is worthed it, or that they will fit everything on cartridge by whatever means. Consumer might feel alienated seeing the micro SD requirement warning on the box, so that's one thing for 3rd party to consider. At least, there is that option now, so the catridge size won't be a restriction for 3rd party to bring their AAA game to Switch, which can be a good thing if you think about it.

Re: Editorial: amiibo Has Stalled, Because Nintendo is Forgetting What Makes It Special

jeffri

I just need a Min Min Amiibo in my life. Make it happen, Nintendo! As for the functionality, it won't bother me too much. Make it to just unlock, say... Min Min color schemes for all other characters will be a fun touch. Or they can make it unlock Min Min as the Grand Prix champion. Or do it like Smash Bros, so we can train our Min Min and beat those Twintelle Amiibo!

Come on Nintendo, gimme Min Min, please.

Okay, maybe I should stop with my Min Min obsession. Haha

Re: Nintendo Switch Has Sold 4.7 Million Units Worldwide

jeffri

Sweet result. And this considering the stock issues in Nintendo main markets too, especially Japan with long queue just for a raffle. Also happy to see ARMS passing 1 million! That also means it has about 1/4 attach rate, pretty cool for a new IP.

Re: The ARMS Update Will Include a Mode That Allows Players to Become Hedlok

jeffri

@ACK I think rush works quite okay in this case, if it got any easier to cancel rush, anyone can just spam attack whenever rush is coming. I like the current way, if we can move away from direct hit, then we can attack or grab from the side to cancel it.

If anything, there is this trick that I see a lot of high ranked player use to ensure guaranteed rush: do a grab -> we response with punch to cancel the grab -> rush, which cancel our punch -> guaranteed hit. I think that is one technique that need to be nerfed, seems like the ARMS returns too quickly after we cancel the grab. I also encounter a couple of times that successful grab can be switched to rush immediately, which also another guaranteed hit.

Re: ARMS and Nintendo Switch Keep a Grip on the Japanese Charts

jeffri

I have spent more than 50 hours on ARMS, so I'll say it definitely worth the $60 it asked for. Not to mention new DLC and mode going forward.

I'm not sure why people think the ARMS second week is bad, of course it will drop, any game did. The question is how long can ARMS keep this going, probably not long with Splatoon 2 coming, but if it could stay in chart and keep selling throughout the year, I think it did well.

Re: Hori Unveils Another Nintendo Switch Headset for July, With Plenty of Wires

jeffri

Bluetooth might add delay to the sound, especially if it needs channel mixing with voice chat from phone. As clunky as this thing is, I think it is the only workable solution to be able to enjoy voice chat while still able to listen to the in game sound, without introducing any delay.

Of course best solution will be having the Switch handle voice chat directly. Perhaps that is what Reggie hinted at.

Re: ARMS and Nintendo Switch Lead the Way in Japanese Charts

jeffri

Good news for ARMS! It certainly have Splatoon-like appeal in it, and hopefully it will reach as well. Even just 50% of what Splatoon have done will be a great success for ARMS. I'm a fan of it since the introduction and happy to see it doing relatively well.

I also love Splatoon since the introduction, but never have access to it since I don't have a Wii U, however next month I'll finally be able to play it. Can't wait!

Re: FUZE Code Studio for Switch To Nurture Next Wave Of Bedroom Coders

jeffri

Will need a physical keyboard, as the virtual one in Switch is terrible. I don't know why I keep mistyping there, and never have the same problem with iPhone or Android virtual keyboard.

Anyway this can be quite fun... As a programmer in my day job, I have to admit that I have lost a lot of my passion in it, so I'll see if this might spark my interest in exploring something new, hopefully even learn other language.

Re: Capcom Has No Plans to Bring Monster Hunter XX for Nintendo Switch to the West

jeffri

It's unfortunate that World won't come to Switch, but think of it another way, they might not announce Switch support because they are trying to sell XX right now in Japan. Well, one can hope, right?

I hope XX will get localized soon. And another hope that they have another plan for Switch MH entry. Man... all these news were such a blow to Nintendo fans. It seems Nintendo will carry Switch by themselves again.

Re: Here Are the Most Popular and Successful ARMS Fighters From the Second Testpunch

jeffri

Well, there is a lot of Ninjara for sure. There is plenty that uses Twintelle at first, but seems like a lot of them switch to the more familiar character later.

Ribbon Girl is a tough enemy to beat, wide range of movement and small target, she is quite hard to hit. Add to that a quick Slapamander to slap her opponent. Mechanica is not as quick, but isn't that Master Mummy slow either. Her ARMS seems to be all heavy hitter and can easily overwhelm a smaller opponent.

I found a lot of Min Min in the first round of Testpunch but it seems a lot of them moved away on the second round. I kept my loyalty to Min Min though and find her as good as any other at beating her opponents. Ram Ram is definitely my favorite ARMS, while the Dragon is great for scoring long range attack.

Re: Gallery: These Nintendo Switch VR Mock-Ups Are Rather Eye-Catching

jeffri

Awesome works! The joy-con already addresses VR control, so the missing part is screen resolution and power. This won't be realistic right now, but if Switch iteration is quick, i.e 2-3 years each with the same OS inside but improved display and specs (think like iOS device with yearly updates), it could happens. Generation separated console should be a thing of past already.

Re: Nintendo Switch Will Be Easier To Find Than The NES Classic At Launch, Says Reggie Fils-Aime

jeffri

And here I am refreshing Amazon a couple of times a day, to see if I get a chance of preorder opening. I hope I'll be able to secure one at launch day and didn't have to pay ridiculous price demanded by scalper.

Regarding 3DS co-existing, I'm sure they will for a while. But not for that long, I guess 2 years until the game releases dry out. At that time, they will probably release a Switch Mini at $200.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Will Rely on Switch Word of Mouth Due to Strange Presentation Timing

jeffri

Well, it's a live event, of course they wanted the most convenient time in their country. I think it doesn't matter that much, coverage will comes a bit later, but it will still covered by mainstream media. Social media trending might be a bit divided though, as some will tweet live and some will tweet later. If they could keep the trending up all day, it will be awesome, but I'm a bit worried the trend won't reach the peak it deserved and spread out too much instead. Let's see how it goes, I'm excited! Bring it on Ninty

Re: Gallery: Let's Take a Look at the Nintendo Switch

jeffri

The design is great, sleek and looks ellegant. I think that is what they need, sleek console that people want to take around. The name though... why? First Switch, which is odd for a console name. Then Joy-Con??? ROFL. Anyway, I'm SOLD.
