Re: Dragon Quest VIII Storms to Number One in Japan and Boosts New 3DS Sales

jeffri

3DS seems to keep producing million sellers over and over. After Yokai Watch, then followed by Animal Crossing:HHD in next week or two, and after that Dragon Quest VIII will also follow. Then we have Monster Hunter X, which is another million seller for certain. Next year, there is Yokai Watch 3 and possibly a new Pokemon game too. Was hoping to see FE selling a little better though.

Wii U keeps the momentum going with Splatoon, Super Mario Maker is near, so we can expect another boost soon. Next week will be all about Metal Gear Solid V though, so Sony will have a good week.

Re: Review: SENRAN KAGURA 2: Deep Crimson (3DS)

jeffri

The review sounds exactly like my experience with Burst (currently playing it), so I suppose if I like Burst then I would like this game too. I'll see until I finish Burst before I decide to buy this or not, enjoying it so far though. It can be a mindless button mashing, but we could also decide to use various combo if we want. Can be repetitive, though it's the nature of most beat-em-up I guess.

Anyway, if you feel disturbed with the amount of skin revealed, you could change the swimsuit to something less revealing.

Re: Rumour: XSEED Less Than Happy With Nintendo's About-Face On Publishing Devil's Third

jeffri

Well, rumour is just that, rumour. It might be true, it might be that insider own personal opinion, or it might be that insider just heard it from another insider, or even, it might be just a made up. Thing is, we'll probably just know the truth years later, when the head of Nintendo or XSEED retired and decide to took an interview. Until then... it's business as usual.

Re: Super Robot Wars BX Battles Its Way to Number One in Japan

jeffri

@Artwark 1 million is a good number, besides, FE is SRPG, it's niche and to be fair, it past games didn't sell that much either. As long as FE games can sell at least 1 million copies worldwide (should be easy I think), I think it's safe to think the continuation of the franchise is secured. It also always have a great critical reception, so it's a game Nintendo want in their portfolio for each generation.

Galaxy did not continue, but Nintendo is placing that in main 3D Mario platformer category, so the 3D World is considered to be the successor of the Galaxy. Might not be the 3D Mario people want, but it still is a representative of 3D Mario game.

Other M, I don't know, I just think Nintendo might not know what to do with it after the poor reception and the budget is possibly too high. F-zero is probably also a case of Nintendo didn't know what to do with it anymore, especially as MK8 introduces anti-gravity and 200 cc mode. While Nintendo don't have a representative in FPS category, MK8 already represent racing category for Nintendo.

I think FE Fates is fine the way it's selling right now, however, a new home console FE is a different matter entirely, it could be going to be a handheld only game from now on. Obviously I was hoping it to sell better, but it still sells as good as previous entries, and there's also digital and DLC number that only Nintendo knows.

Anyway, just my 2 cents. I think we can start to worry if Fates flopped in the west, for now we can rest easy and anticipate to enjoy Fates in 2016.

Re: Super Robot Wars BX Battles Its Way to Number One in Japan

jeffri

Good week for Nintendo. Super Robot Wars seems interesting, too bad it might never localized. Good Splatoon number, Wii U is still doing pretty good. Super Mario Maker should give Wii U another boost soon.

@Artwark it still selling and eventually would cross half-million mark, there is also the special edition to add. Also digital version is not tracked here, and we don't know how well the DLC sold.

Re: Talking Point: The Argument For And Against amiibo-Cloning Tool Amiiqo

jeffri

$80 to be an Amiibo clone seems a bit too steep, isn't it? I mean, you could get 5 Amiibo figures by that price, and if the cheaper Amiibo card is actually a thing (I'm not sure if I could count the HHD card), this price doesn't make any sense at all. Hard to find Amiibo is a good argument, so hopefully Nintendo could resolve this whole situation.

Whatever it is, I don't think giving $80 to someone else while that money should go to Nintendo is ethical. Same argument for flash card, it's pricy, you could easily buy 3 retail games for the same money (then you can sell old game if you want to get a new game), yet some people choose to buy flash card to get hundred of games they'll never play for free.

Re: Capcom's North American eShop Sale Has Some Tempting Discounts

jeffri

@MasterWario I would say Dual Destinies first, the Trilogy, while have an updated graphics, it still feels dated. The story is not directly connected, so you can play the DD first without problem. That said, the Trilogy is still a must have, considering it's a 3-in-1 game, the amount of content is enormous. Have both if you can, you'll regret nothing.

Re: Weirdness: F-Zero-Style Recharge Strips Are Coming To UK Roads

jeffri

To be a little realistic, hoverboard is well... not a thing yet, more of a gimmick. The Lexus one uses superconductor and magnetic track, in short, using it on free moving vehicle is not possible. That said, building an F-zero toy is entirely possible, it's like Tamiya that follow the tracks but levitating. Yep, that'll be awesome.

Re: 3DS Homebrew Hacker Turns to YouTube App As Latest Workaround for 'Tubehax'

jeffri

I guess people tends to forget that when you buy a hardware, then you own only the hardware, but not the software. The software is owned by Nintendo and you only have the license to use it. Which obviously, any unintended use of the software is illegal. That's just speaking in EULA point of view, I'm not sure if it's law binding or not, and maybe depends to your region.

I'm all for region free system, I wanted GBA and SNES in Virtual Console, but I'm not interested if I had to use hack to satisfy this desire of mine. The best I can do is to make voice, try to reach Nintendo, and if many peoples make enough voices, maybe Nintendo would listen. Operation Rainfall is a proof that Nintendo would listen if fans make enough voice.

Re: Nintendo Removes Ironfall Invasion From 3DS eShop Ahead Of Ironhax Exploit Release

jeffri

@kobashi100 I'm from Asia, well, Nintendo isn't even operate in my country, but I play US system. I'm not arguing over region locking, I prefer one without, after all I could try some obscure game that'll never see the light in the west. But I can understand Nintendo reasoning, part of which you just mentioned, Europe wait a bit too long for some Atlus releases, but if everyone just import from US, wouldn't that hurt European business? Waiting sucks, but it's a part of protecting each region business, you wouldn't want the company in your region go out of business.

Also for my stance of hacking, I'm against it. Sure it might be for a valid reason (bypass region lock in this case), but that was just the beginning. Once the hack is open, someone out there will find a way to play pirated games. Once that happen, and more accessible method is available, it's us gamer that'll lose. Hell, I have even had a hard time finding older games in my country, since the importer will prefer to sell flash card and newer releases. Thankfully we now have digital releases.

Re: Exclusive: MercurySteam Has Been Working On A Metroid Prototype For Wii U And 3DS

jeffri

I'm not really clear. So is it Nintendo asked them to build a Metroid prototype and then turned it down? Or is this company tried to make a Metroid prototype to appeal to Nintendo but got turned down? If it's the latter, well..... I guess I can say anyone can make prototype based on Nintendo franchise, doesn't mean it's a potential project or exciting at all, especially if no one from Nintendo is involved.

Re: Chris Prangar, Nintendo Treehouse Staffer Who Recently Spoke About His Work, Confirms He's Been Fired

jeffri

Unfortunate incident indeed. I was surprised to see that Nintendo has a change of heart to become more open suddenly, but it appears their policy isn't changing at all and this is only one guy violating the terms. As a company, this is a rather normal thing that happens all the time, so I don't see why people would bash Nintendo for this. It's suck that it happened.

Wish he a good luck in future.

Re: Mario History: Super Mario Bros. - 1985

jeffri

30 years later and this game is still relevant, even by today standards. Sure the successors and many other platformers is superior by definition, but this game set the standard for side-scrolling platformer and has been the example of a good game design.

Re: DeNA West CEO Believes Nintendo Smart Device Releases "Might Change the Way People Play Mobile Games"

jeffri

Another thing people most often forgot when talking mobile games is how limited the storage space is. Sure, mobile hardware nowadays are very capable (my Note 4 is a powerhouse that run everything I throw at it), but the better the graphics the bigger they eats the storage too. With most smartphone comes with 16GB default and the trend to remove expandable storage in newer model, thing doesn't look very good. 128GB might become an option nowadays, but if the game started to become much bigger, it'll still fill up quickly.

Even 3DS games with it's low fidelity can be very big (some 3DS releases is >3GB, the maximum catridge size is 8GB btw, while smartphone still have 4GB limit last time I checked). At least, with dedicated handheld console, we have physical games. In other words, mobile games will be always limited, despite how strong the hardware is.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Tackles Criticisms of Bonus Features in Games

jeffri

Well, I don't play the Pokemon Ami features too and I don't see I missed anything. Same thing with Mewnster Hunter feature, while I need it to craft Felynes armor/weapon, I forgot of it too often and just let it play on automatic when I remember. I can say the same to room decoration feature on Fantasy Life too, while nice to have but I just don't bother. I see Fire Emblem Fates extras in the same view, I might use it once and then forget, or maybe get back to it when I'm bored and need some break. It's extra, you can choose to ignore or use it to get some bonus.

Re: Chris Pranger From Nintendo Treehouse Discusses Harsh Realities Of Localisation

jeffri

Atlus localize a lot of games, some with full voice acting even and their sales seems to never pass Nintendo's own published games. I think Nintendo just don't realise how big the niche market that exists within itself, the Xenoblade case should convince them better and now we see them more happy to localise (Bravely Default/Second, Fantasy Life, Fatal Frame, etc) and hopefully in future too.
