Re: Review: Chibi-Robo!: Zip Lash (3DS)

Definitely reminds me of Yumi's Odd Oddysey (or Sayonara Umihara Kawase), but with it's own twist. I played a bit of Yumi and enjoyed the short time I had (too many other games to play, so I place it in backlog), I personally think I might have fun with this too. For some reason, I just have a soft spot for swinging mechanic in game.

Re: Miiverse Gets a Major Web Redesign, and Introduces Adverts

jeffri

Ad is fine, but why using regular Adsense? I'm sure Nintendo could find a better, relevant bid to the ad space. For example, give it to indie dev or even major publisher that want some exposure of their game on Nintendo platform. I'm disappointed, that's clearly some cheap way to gain small chunk of money instead of keep their dignity more and promote the game on their own platform.

Re: PS4 and Sony Enjoy Dominant Week in Japan With Price Cut and New Releases

jeffri

PS4 week! Wii U still perform respectable though, next week will give us better perspective of how PS4 will perform. Wii U does need a price cut soon. I don't understand why they haven't, I'm sure they have reason (i.e clearing old stock that was produced with higher cost?), but Nintendo reacted aggresively with 3DS and seems reluctant to do the same to Wii U.

Anyway, maybe rather than a price cut, they could launch a new SKU that take the current price point and drop the current one, for example a 64GB Wii U Super Deluxe?

On the software front, a lot of new Sony releases! But I guess most of them were front-loaded, so Yokai Watch and SMM will probably took the top spot next week again. SMM is still strong this week and Splatoon is respectable.

Re: The Pokémon Company Withdraws Settlement in Lawsuit Over Copyright Infringement

jeffri

Well, morally, I think TPC should just stop at ceast and desist. Legally though, they are free to sue. Regardless of this guy intention, he's still using Pokemon IP to benefit his own business. I know people liked to blame TPC, but both side is equally at fault here.

Regarding fan art that people have mentioned, no, fan art isn't legal unless it's fall into parody. Generally though, most companies were usually fine as long as the artist didn't profit from them. And yes, recently there this news that cover unlicensed material in NY Con:
http://www.bleedingcool.com/2015/09/29/is-a-crackdown-coming-on-unlicensed-marvel-and-star-wars-prints-at-nycc/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2015/10/01/tolerance-for-american-comic-convention-fan-art-sales-reportedly-growing-thin

So yeah, this isn't strictly Nintendo or TPC thing, every company that value their IP will do the same, one way or the other.

Re: The Pokémon Company Sues Fan for Copyright Infringement, Demands $4,000 in Damages

jeffri

I know Nintendo (or in this case The Pokemon Company) screwing fan is a hot topic on the web, but still... This is still a case of a fan using other's IP to benefit his own business. The Pokemon Company might find this guy present the IP in objectionable way (i.e not family-friendly), so they sued.

That said, IMO, they shouldn't went as far as pursuing payment. A ceast and desist should be all it's needed.

Re: Super Mario Maker Back on Top in Japan as 3DS and Wii U Sales Increase

jeffri

@Artwark well, I don't think FE Fates will sell 1 million in Japan alone, but worldwide, it's almost certain. I was hoping it could do better, but last time it charts at around 2k weekly and keep declining. I think it already has a decent run in Japan, being RPG that is usually front-loaded instead of having legs. I'll start to worry though if the game failed in the west, which would be unlikely given the popularity of FE Awakening.

FE Fates is also sort of special too, with second storyline as DLC, the DLC numbers might be higher than any FE games. Unfortunately, we have no way to find out, unless Nintendo included it in their report.

What I can say is, calm down. FE Fates didn't become a phenomenon like YW or Pokemon, but it still selling as well as other FE titles.

Re: Super Mario Maker Back on Top in Japan as 3DS and Wii U Sales Increase

jeffri

SMM and Splatoon still strong. Splatoon dip a bit last week, but it's now back to 20k+. The Wii U situation might be different if SMM and Splatoon were launch titles. Wii U increase is nice to see, unexpected even. I hope it could stay 15k+.

PS4 will surely take number 1 spot next week, and hopefully will strenghten home console market in Japan in a long run. Vita seems to do well too.

Re: Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon Tops Japanese Charts as Wii U Beats PS4

jeffri

Wii U didn't drop that much, a good indication that it could sell in 5 digits for a while with both SMM and Splatoon. Now Wii U need another game that could keep it selling, but sadly major releases is pushed to next year. Will be interesting to see how it'll perform this holiday.

3DS and PSV seems to be doing good. Not sure why PSV dropped last week, but glad that it shoot back up. PS4 drop is expected but will probably have a higher baseline after the price cut. Also XBO increased more than 200% compared to last week!

Re: Don't Count Nintendo Out, Says Former Xbox Boss Robbie Bach

jeffri

How NX perform will be interesting. Anyway, a world without Nintendo will be boring, I hope they could find success in their next console. Of course, a next Wii or DS might not be possible, but if they could have moderate success like N64 or GBA or 3DS, that'll ensure Nintendo existence in market.

Re: Super Mario Maker Tops The Charts In Japan, Causes Wii U Sales To Double

jeffri

Oh, I expected SMM to be higher... but I guess with Mario, the legs is more important than first week sales as it'll sell for a long time. Nice Wii U boost there, hope it can help pushing the baseline number a bit now that we have both SMM and Splatoon.

In the other hand, Vita number seems to be in worrying state now. PS4 number is still as good as ever though.

Re: Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima to Stick With Smart Device and IP Plans, Previously Predicted Wii U Troubles

jeffri

Hmm... So basically he's to lead for a short period of time while preparing for future leadership at Nintendo. Well, I think it's good if we could get a younger president after him, but being a president also requires a good business sense, that might be what younger personnel lack. That said, I wish him good luck and let's give him chances to lead the company.

Re: Apple Just Announced Its Own Wii, Almost A Decade After Nintendo

jeffri

The limit of tvOS is that it was a mobile OS and can only play mobile games. Sure, recent mobile games can be compared very well to console games nowadays, however there won't be AAA games to compete with full fledged consoles. 64GB maximum is also too limited and no expandable storage. It will be a good indie game machine however, just like Android TV boxes and we know how that ends up. Apple TV will be more successful for sure, but it still won't compete with home console.

Re: Dragon Quest VIII and 3DS Overtaken by Metal Gear Solid V and PS4 in Japan

jeffri

Great to see MGSV on top, while I never played any title of it, but I would be happy to see a game like this succeed and slap Konami face. Poor Xbox version however... didn't chart and no boost whatsoever.

Nothing really stand out for 3DS and Wii U this week, it just had continuing good numbers. SMM next week will be interesting, it might be another surprise like Splatoon, with decent legs and drive Wii U's 5-digits number until the next game. Good job Splatoon for carrying Wii U basically alone for this long.

Re: Rumours and Speculation Stir Over Potential Involvement of Nintendo with Apple TV

jeffri

IOS game, yeah, it's certain with DeNA partnership. Apple TV? I doubt it. I know Apple TV can already stream game from iOS devices, but for Apple TV to work standalone like game console means Apple need to offer various storage option for their Apple TV, which could increase the price significantly, not to mention that it won't support external storage if it used iOS.

Re: Review: Hatsune Miku: Project MIRAI DX (3DS)

jeffri

I enjoyed the demo, so a sure buy for me. I'm not very good with the button mode, but tap mode is easier to me. Nonetheless, I was never a good player in rhythm game, so at most I could only beat it normal difficulty.
