Re: Pokémon TCG Pocket Announces "New And Updated" Features For First Anniversary

hisownsidekick

Eh. When they finally implemented the "trading" part of their Trading Card Game, it was so restricted that it made me care less about the collecting, which was the only part of the game I enjoyed. Caring less made me check in less often, which made me miss cards (that I couldn't trade for anyway), which made me care even less... you see where this is going.
I'm really not interested in revisiting it, which is a shame, because it was definitely fun for a while despite TPC's efforts.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Fatal Fury Special (SNES)

The expressions on the Japanese box are definitely odd (and the entire cast needs to buy less eyeliner), but the characters at least look like themselves. The North American / European art is good, but everyone's way off model. Terry's face is so... bulge-y. Like someone wrapped a mask around some ground beef.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (11th October)

hisownsidekick

I've been bad about taking advantage of my weekends of late, but I plan to play more Ivalice Chronicles, as well as checking out Cocoon and finally starting River City Girls. I loved Limbo and Inside yet somehow missed Cocoon entirely, and for whatever reason I've been in a "beat 'em up renaissance" mood lately. I didn't grow up with Streets of Rage (we were an SNES family), but I recently had a blast with 4 and I'd like to keep that momentum going. Play well, all! (Hmm, I like that. I might start saying that more often.)

@JohnnyMind Cool, I hope you enjoy it! I don't know if this will help at all, but one tip I've heard when it comes to being less scared by horror games is to just run at an enemy the first time you see them. See what they do to you, let the animations and sound play out, and then restart and play the game normally. Once it's no longer an unknown, it tends to be less frightening/discomforting, and it reinforces the idea that it's just a game and that you're in control of what happens. It's hardly an ideal way to make progress, haha, but it seems to work for some people.

Re: Japanese Charts: Sucker Punch Stops Mario Galaxy Soaring Too High

Seeing that top 10, I was struck by just how many things on it would blow people's minds apart, were it to fall through a wormhole and arrive 10 years in the past. "PS5, whoa. And Switch 2! So they really did do a direct follow-up! New Tactics release! Mario Kart World?! And Silent Hill is back?! New Donkey Kong?! A mine you can craft?! Wait-"

Re: Street Fighter 6 Trailer Showcases The Return Of 'Mech Zangie-F'

hisownsidekick

@Olliemar28 Heads up, you have it as "Mech Zangie-F" in the headline but "Mech Zangei-F" in the article, as well as "Zangeif" a little further down. I only noticed the former because I copied and pasted it in a search (since I'd never heard of this character), and that caused me to notice the latter when I went back to check. Just... to assuage any fears that I'm actively looking for tiny things like this, haha. I just like to be helpful, not search for nits to pick!

Re: Review: Yooka-Replaylee (Switch 2) - Feels Like The Game It Was Meant To Be, Finally

hisownsidekick

Did they make the writing/characters less annoying? Banjo-Kazooie is one of my top games of all time, but I've always hated how negative and antagonistic the characters of that series tend to be, constantly belittling each other with that witless 90s "attitude" that I found grating AS a 90s kid IN the 90s. It's such a stark, unpleasant contrast to the joyful nature of every other thing about the series and Playtonic seemed to really lean into that for the first game. I'm curious if they've tempered it with some cleverness or reined it in at all.

Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorld's First "Premium" DLC Pack Arrives This Week

hisownsidekick

@LikelySatan The fanpeoples are still smoldering in the comments of "that other article," which is... well, not surprising, I guess. But it's certainly something.

I'm personally hoping for some DLC characters that are, to put it diplomatically, of an "alternative" interest. "More," specifically. More interesting. I'm hoping for more interesting characters. Maybe some Sega ones?

Re: Opinion: Ogre Battle 64: Person Of Lordly Caliber's Revolutionary Heart Still Burns Brightly

hisownsidekick

This is one of those classic examples of a game I would rent as a kid because of the name and artwork (I was a nerd, surprise), fail to properly understand, and then return, hoping to crack the code next time. I was just too young, haha, but it made for some fun times regardless of how little progress I made. I eventually went back to the game in college and really enjoyed it.

Re: Nintendo Music Adds Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Switch & GameCube Albums

hisownsidekick

I'm new to the Switch ecosystem, so this is a genuine question and not a cynical attempt to bait anyone: do we know why these additions to the service are so staggered, as opposed to a more "open the floodgates" approach? I'm sure international licensing is complicated (Square Enix has a real fun time navigating that with Final Fantasy music, I've read), but it's been really surprising to read about how long it's taken certain soundtracks to be added.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Strategy Games

hisownsidekick

It's odd to me that Tactics Ogre: Reborn isn't on the list proper, but I'm glad it's still mentioned. As it turns out, my "to check out" list of Switch strategy titles was sorely missing a number of these. Crises averted. Thanks!

Re: Opinion: Sonic Racing Crossworlds > Mario Kart World, And It's Not Even Close For Me

hisownsidekick

I'm of the opinion that both are kart racers and both look quite fun. I'm also of the opinion that this comment section holy geez what? I mean pardon me for cursing, but: what the heck-dang, ya'll. It's an OPINION piece. About a magical plumber and a bunch of animals driving cars. Some us enjoy a well-written expression of someone else's perspective and circumstances, regardless of our agreement with them. You don't have to; it's fine.
