Nice message to celebrate the 10 year anniversary. Many congratulations to all involved - it's a great achievement to develop a game that provides 10 year's of income to support the team.
I like No Man's Sky but cannot yet say I love it. I've never explored what other players have found possible with the game and just tried to to play it organically, never quite feeling I've gotten to grips with the mechanics and loop of finding and crafting resources. It's a 'nearly' game for me, so far, but I've not give up yet...
Jeeez, what the heck did the photographer say to those child models? And who the hell chose to run with that photo? They've got a face on them like Papa has just had to sell their holiday home and cancel the trust fund.
The arrival of the Splatoon series on Wii U was a tremendous thing. All the games are great fun, but after Raiders I wonder if I'm ready for the series to broaden it's horizons. It's light-hearted vibe is a blessing, but it would be fun to try it in a more serious, grittier context.
@datamonkey A Splatoon Kart where you're inking the track in front of you to go faster and slow others down while using various ink weapons too could be hella fun.
By gads! Does that mean I need to change my gaming persona to swunit?
The answer is, "No, otherwise I'd have bloody done it about 7 years ago when Switch 1 must have achieved the same feat! What do you think I am? Stupid?!"
I rounded down to 8, but could easily have gone up to 9.
I've played it for several hours and find it to be fantastically playable, never want to stop playing kinda playable.
Reasons I didn't go 9+:
Lack of visual variation, with the same style of abstract locations and enemies (all salmonid). Doesn't mean I don't like the visuals, not at all, but from what I've seen it doesn't merit an 9+ from me, currently.
I'd like a bit more reason to explore the environments. Other than the odd slightly tucked away crate, the environments are just stages upon which to stage the splatting, so exploration is minimal.
Only tried one of the sampler stages so far and didn't think it was very well executed. Perhaps it was me not conquering the moveset the designers intended me to use, but it wasn't clear and I was repeatedly being involuntarily boosted into barriers, which wasn't very satisfying. I suspect other sampler stages won't have the same problem, but the first one left a negative impression on me.
The tank add-on slot restrictions are annoying. I don't much care for having to frequently swap out gear to make space for something new, so I've kinda ignored that aspect of the game after initially filling my slots.
But the core of the game is excellent. I can see why, on the surface, it might look repetitive, but each stage tends to have a unique feel to the battles, due to the way the enemies are laid out and the arena configured. And it doesnt ever seem to stop being fun and absorbing to play. So play it.
Splatoon Raiders is so damn playable. I don't expect it to perform especially well, sales wise, in the longer term, because it doesn't have much visual variety: not a whole lot environmental variation, and the enemies are all salmonids, but for those who actually play it, I think most will really enjoy it, providing they see the basic appeal in Splatoon in the first place.
I've never used the bat and ball that Mario's using on the Japanese cover, but I wouldn't expect them to mould together as much as that on impact (even under super slugging conditions), so it just looks like clipping to me. And for that reason, and for the more enticing title graphic on the NA/Europe cover, I cannot in good faith cast a vote for the Japanese cover, despite it arguably having the best single feature (Luigi's diving catch). But they're both pretty good without either being fantastic.
Splatoon Raiders for me. If someone could tell me why it appears we've gone backwards and again restricted access to the R-stick's vertical axis when motion controls are on, I'd be grateful.
Peace, love, splattered salmonid carcasses and pixels to all ✌🏼❤️💦🕹️ xxx
@somnambulance Rhythm Groove is the game of the year without this, but if there was a touch more graphical indulgence, I'd be even more impressed. Games like the soccer chest & volley, if there was an actual goal to volley the ball into...
I have them all and, of course, being the world's biggest Nintendo fan and an absolute Tetris pro, I've not missed any of them along the way, and none of you can prove otherwise unless you trawl back through my comments history or look through my screenshots archive!
My insistence on getting a medal on every stage of Rhythm Paradise Groove before moving onto the next one is costing me time, but I'm fancying some Mega Man and some Amiga emulation this weekend.
Peace, love, percussive perseverance and pixels to all ✌🏼❤️🪘🕹️ xxx
I'm not seeing a Game Key Card notice on the cover, and its not a remake of a remake, so I'll be getting this.
Glad it's got gameshare, but having to have 3 Switches charged up and on hand will limit how much it gets used - I doubt we'll take 4 Switches on holiday with us, for example. Local multiplayer would have been a megawin.
I have one way of playing Splatoon. Frantic speed into the hot zone > get splatted > frantic speed back to the hot zone > get splatted > repeat for 3 minutes. Get in, get dead, go again. Who's with me?
Mouse mode might be interesting, but I've not properly played any CoD for 25 years. Tinkered on Wii and Wii U, with a slight lingering sense of 'I might give the campaign another go one day', but that one day is yet to materialise.
The absolute GOAT is beginning its journey out to pasture. What an incredible contribution Switch has made to the gaming industry and so many of our lives.
I'm a complete sucka for rainbow colours, so was massively tempted to go with Japan, but the North American cover just features more relevant objects and has a better sunburst effect so deservedly gets my vote.
@NintendoLife Yep... there's something wrong with your database - I couldn't find any Rhythm Paradise games in at all.
My downfall is that I really like the pretty straight-forward games with catchy tunes (e.g. Disc Dog and the car commercial Stop N Go N Stop), but as soon as this buster starts cranking the difficulty, I fall to pieces. You guys without the full game need to get a taste of that Hop N Slide music - playing Hop N Slide over and over to git gud is worth the full price alone - I'm in absolute Heaven Paradise!
People in the forum thread be like 'Yeh, it took me 3 tries to get Amazing' and I'm like 'But... that one took me 3³ tries just to begin to figure out wtf is going on 😭'.
I am not hyperbolating you though when I tell you, this. Is. My. GOTY.
I didn't think I could vibe any harder during Hop N Slide, but then I aced that and moved on to Pop, Don't Drop and have just had the biggest groovegasm I think I've ever had. The SMILE on my face. If Barry Davies could see me now...
Peace, love, multitudes of missed beats and pixels to all ✌🏼❤️🪘🕹️ xxx
@Peach64 Dwindling physical sales is by design. Let's not pretend this is just Sony saying, "Ah well, the customer has spoken". The industry has been conditioning/diverting people for many years.
Nothing quite like a good rhythm game. If you're at all of a rhythmic persuasion, it's a string to the video gaming bow that other mediums can't compete with.
I think I've left my pre-order too late to have it Day 1, but it's coming... . . . .
Here we go, let's do this. Bought Oblivion a bajillion years ago in a PC double-pack with Bioshock, but only played 10 minutes cos that's what I do. How could I resist doing the same again but for 5 times the price?
Suspect there's a fair amount of over-celebrating Star Fox being at No. 1.
As this is a chart of physical sales, how much competition was Star Fox facing to top the chart this week? This is the the UK chart - sales don't have to be large to reach the summit. What other games released physically this week?
No wonder there's an Evercade title in the top 20. How many copies do you think that sold?

Typical, NL does Neighbours dirty like it does the Wii U dirty.

Ooo, I see Culdcept The First: Saturn Tribute is getting a separate physical release for Switch 1. Cool.
Kinda strange that we're getting a review in mid-July but it doesn't release until mid-September though.
Edit: Kindly users below have pointed out my oversight and the asynchronous release dates for digital and physical versions - thanks.

@Aquinas I'm pretty sure Sony bases the PS2 total sales figure on how many times Anti-Matter says he prefers PS4/5 over Switch.

Japanese still buying nearly as many Switches as PS5s.
