Re: Switch Online's "Mature" Nintendo 64 App Is Now Available In The West

edhe

I recently bought a cartridge copy of Perfect Dark, so I was personally annoyed with the news - I could have saved myself the money.

And today, a copy of Conker's Bad Fur Day (£100) will be delivered, so I'd be extra annoyed if that turns up on this mature app, but I suppose it's a foregone conclusion now. How many other "mature" games could appear on the service?

At least I can console myself with the fact I can play them without having to pay for the Switch Online service.

Re: Nintendo Discontinuing 'X' Integration On Switch Next Month

I used this feature quite a lot to share screenshots with my brother. I'm baffled as to why they decided to remove the functionality.

The thing I'll miss is the automatic hashtags associated with the game (so I can browse other posts from fellow switch users), but I've uploaded by connecting my switch up to my laptop before, and that method offers other benefits too, like containing similar posts to a single thread, and adding edited or cropped photos.

I'll miss using it though. I know twitter is regarded as a cesspit, which is why I don't delve in to the activist side of it. I have separate accounts - one of which is used solely for video videogame related posts, and that suits me fine.

Re: Community: Have You Played A Great Switch Game We Missed? Let Us Know About It

edhe

Looking at my backloggery, the only game I have played that doesn't have a review on the site is "KUUKIYOMI: Consider It!".
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Kuukiyomi: Consider It - similar to WarioWare, in that you play a (fixed) series of microgames, but they're focused on Japanese social etiquette. You take control of a person or, sometimes, inanimate object in a specific situation, and are tasked with manipulating them to create an outcome that is either considerate, or inconsiderate.

Some of the minigames rely on knowledge of Japanese etiquette (something that isn't neccesarily universal), and after completing all 100 minigames, you are ranked on how considerate you are.

There are two other games in the series, offering more scenarios - I think it's a fun budget game.

Re: Feature: Video Game Music That Didn't Need To Go That Hard

edhe

I have a few examples I think qualify:

1) The music from Plok (SNES). The opening bar from the first level is about what you'd expect from a cartoon platformer (although it'd be the third track you'd hear if you played the game, or the soundtrack in sequence), but it quickly increases in complexity, well beyond what you'd expect from the SNES.
A standout track from Plok would be Beach. I'm surprised no-one's mentioned Plok yet.

The article mentions the Wii Sports Menu? Small potatoes. I raise you the menu for Wii Sports Resort - a reprise of the previous game's theme.

Someone has since mentioned a track from the game but I'd like to add, a lot of tracks from Miitopia fit the bill for me. The game is an evolution on that game you'd spend 5 minutes each day playing on your 3DS about 10 years ago, and they went all out on the music. My absolute favourite is Battle: Realm of the Fey.

but some other tracks I like include Boss Battle and Battle: Powdered Peaks.

Finally, a special mention to one of my favourite tracks of all, which I'll include because I think it fits the bill perfectly - Legacy from the game Saturday Morning RPG. I played it on PC a few years back, and it isn't that great, but this track left an impression on me.

Re: Feature: Video Game Music That Didn't Need To Go That Hard

edhe

I'm not down with the slang, but does "go hard" mean, simply, that the music is good, and in this case, these tracks are greater than they needed to be?
I can name a lot of favourite music tracks ,but if we're sharing great tracks specifically from unassuming games, I'll have to narrow the list down a bit.

Re: Persona 3 Portable & Persona 4 Golden Arrive On Switch Nintendo January 2023

edhe

I have P3 on PS3, although it's a hassle to set it up, and I'd be willing to buy it again. As much as I'd be curious to explore the FeMC's social links, is it such, that you aren't able to play as the male character at all? Are there mutually exclusive social links between the various characters and the protagonist, depending on whether they're male or female?

Furthermore, while I know for a fact the Portable version does away with the explorable environments, does it also lack the content of the FES version?
That might be a factor as to whether I'd consider buying it.

Persona 4, on the other hand, is a game I haven't played at all - so that would be a no brainer for me.

Re: Memory Pak: My First Killing Game - 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors

edhe

I played through Zero Time Dilemma recently, and I had a great time. It's my favourite game of the three.

The fragment system makes it easier to work towards the various endings, as opposed to the system in 999, where you were going blind (hitting triggers in a certain route that would allow you to experience new events, and continue along the 'good end' route - if that makes any sense).

The same system was in Virtue's Last Reward, which I'm playing again, sporadically (coincidentally, it was my first game of the series, followed by 999, which I was fortunate enough to find in a game shop (only released in America on the DS), then Zero Time Dilemma), and the character models make me appreciate the ones in Zero Time Dilemma.
Another thing - I wasn't a fan of Zero Jr. I found him obnoxious.
I did enjoy it when I first played it, although compared to Zero Time Dilemma, the puzzles were a bit harder for me.

Similarly, having played all three Danganronpa games, I'm a fan of the third game too - technically, it's improved over the previous two, and I liked the plot & ending, but those games were more similar to each other than the games in the Zero Escape series, so it's hard to pick my favourite. In terms of pure content, V3 was vastly superior, but I enjoyed playing all three.

Alas, I can't vote in the poll because I haven't played any of these games on the Switch.

Re: Konami Announces Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection For Switch

edhe

This is a pleasant surprise.

The killer app for me would be Turtles in Time (a game I've only played on emulator in the past), but I'd be interested to see how I fare against the NES one. Unless I played that on emulator in the past too, I was probably around 10 when I last experienced it.

EDIT - I've owned a Gameboy one too - probably 'Fall of the Foot Clan'

Re: Nintendo To Celebrate Fire Emblem’s 30th Anniversary With Special Voice Actor Interviews

edhe

Will they be in character? I think Mae is my favourite performance of the lot.
It's a pity Patrick Seitz is only going to be voicing the owl (Fehnix - the heroes OC ended up being the one to introduce the hated subscription service to heroes).
Speaking of which, I'd have liked to see Cassandra Lee-Morris make an appearance too - she took over the voice of the regular Heroes owl, and while I prefer the other one, I like her performance as Sothis.

Re: GameStop Price Tanks As Trading Apps Block Users From Buying More Shares

edhe

Not only has the RobinHood app blocked the buying of new shares, but, if this tweet is to be believed, they are now selling them on the investors' behalf. So a dip in the stock price may have more to do with that than any investors seeking to cash out. I haven't delved too deep into the subreddits, but if I'm not mistaken, it's become clear that RobinHood are actually in cahoots with the hedge fund at the centre of this whole business.

I wouldn't blame them if they did cash out - I'd be tempted, but it was nice to see Wall street get a taste of their own medicine for once.

Re: The Survivalists, A Follow-Up To Team17's The Escapists, Launches On Switch Today

edhe

Had a quick session on it last night, and I found it quite fun. I'm struggling to manage my inventory (almost always full), but I've sussed out how to utilise the monkeys now(I befriended my second one during this session) - a bit fiddly though.

My base is a bit of a mess though, but I had been mainly concentrating on exploring the cooking/crafting/building tech trees, which require you to place, for example, a single wood fence to unlock a new recipe.

I'm finding the bow useful as well, and, before I finished for the night, I was able to craft a sail for my raft, so I can do a bit of exploring.

I'm looking forward to seeing what else you can do.

Re: Soapbox: Forget Terraforming And Crafting, 'Island Hopping' Is The Best Thing About Animal Crossing: New Horizons

I’m sure I had successive mystery tours where I haven’t seen a single washed up bottle. Are you supposed to be able to find as many as you want?
I was under the impression you were limited to one every 24 hours, no matter how many trips you make.

The only other reason for me to go on mystery tours is to scout out new islanders, so other than that, I don’t bother.

As for gathering materials, it would help if they could extend that delivery service from Harv’s island (where it is absolutely useless).

Re: Spike Chunsoft's Summer Sale Offers Up To 80% Off Selected Switch Titles

I enjoyed my time with AI: Somnium Files, but contrary to the review, the performance isn't "flawless". I'm only going by personal experience, and secondhand info from some other users on this site, but at times, the game would hang for up to 15 seconds as it loads a nested video clip. When this happens repeatedly, it becomes a bit annoying.
