Nintendo has announced that a free Winter update is set to arrive in Animal Crossing: New Horizons this Thursday.
A new trailer for the update has been shared, giving us our first proper look at the new content we'll be able to enjoy over the coming months. It looks just as lovely as ever, and as well as the usual batch of new events and the like, there's also confirmation that the long-awaited save data transfer feature will also be going live (more details on that here).
New seasonal events, Reactions, hairstyles, save data transfer, and more! Get ready to celebrate the heartwarming holiday festivities with the free Winter update, coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons on November 19!
Here's a look at what we can expect:
- Turkey Day – On Turkey Day, which will take place this year on 26th November, top class chef Franklin will arrive and host a gathering in the plaza. Players can help Franklin collect ingredients to go in the dishes that will be on display in the plaza. Players helping Franklin cook will receive a gift from him. Please note: This event requires the construction of the Resident Services building beforehand.
- Toy Day – It’s the time of the year when island residents rejoice … The month of Toy Day is nearly at hand. Players might notice their island and plaza gradually becoming more festive with holiday-themed decorations over the coming weeks. Keep an eye out for decorated trees, too. Shaking these may drop ornaments which will allow players to craft holiday furniture recipes. From 1st December to 25th December, it will be possible to purchase toys from Nook’s Cranny and find holiday-themed clothing at the Able Sisters shop. When it’s officially Toy Day on 24th December, Jingle will pay a special visit to each island to spread holiday cheer. By helping him deliver presents, players will receive a gift too.
- New Reactions and hairstyles – Nine new Reactions and six new hairstyle options can be acquired by redeeming Nook Miles at the Nook Stop terminal located in Resident Services.
- Home storage limit upgrade – Players who have previously expanded their home to the largest size and have paid off their debt will be able to apply for a further home storage expansion by speaking to Tom Nook at the Resident Services. This will expand the home storage to 2400 slots.
- Visiting random islands in dreams – Everyone enjoying dozing off and visiting other islands within dreams will now be able to choose to visit random islands while dreaming, opening up new vistas of inspiration for island customisations.
- Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp collaboration – To commemorate Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp’s third anniversary, a Pocket Camp smartphone model will become available in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
- … and more: New seasonal items will be available starting 1st December at Nook Stop. Between 26th and 31st December, there will also be several festive items to celebrate New Year’s Eve. In addition to the content of the update, players can look forward to a countdown event on December 31st, starting at 7 p.m. local time, to ring in the new year with their residents as well as friends and family in the game.
Make sure to update your game on Thursday to check all of this out for yourself, and let us know if you're excited for a seasonal change in the comments below.

I finally reached the point last month where jumping on every day felt like too much of a chore so I haven’t played in a while but there’s some nice stuff in these updates. The extra storage in particular is great, although I wish it was a larger increase. Save data transfer finally being available is huge.
Yes! More Storage!!!
Time to take my T shirts off the walls, finally.
-Oh, and pretend Thanksgiving/Christmas are nice too. Can't forget that.
this late season i couldn't get any recipe
I think this will be my favorite update so far: Save Data, increased storage, Christmas, and those awesome reactions!
SAVE DATA TRANSFER!!! Shouldn’t this be the headline?!
I like the new reactions. The yoga/workout ones would be useful in photo sessions on Harv's island.
And, finally, a bald option!
More storage, new reactions, hair styles? That's quite substantial.
The added hair styles look to be more racially diverse which is cool.
Expanded storage is particularly highly welcomed.
Why'd they call Franklin's Event "Turkey Day" though? They always called it "Harvest Festival" before.
YOU CAN SIT DOWN!
That’s it this is officially the best update ever.
Yaaaay...!! 😀
Cooking time.
I have stocked a lot mushrooms.
Guess i need to stock some fishes too for fish dishes recipe.
Just to be clear, save data transfer is moving one resident (not the resident rep) and their stuff to a new island on another system. You can also move the whole island and everything on it to a new system. So just so we're clear, this is not the same thing as Save Data Backup, so no, you can not have multiple islands on one system.
If I messed up something, please tell me, and look at the ACNH website for all the details.
@RupeeClock They did???
I am still waiting for Brewster´s Café and Nook´s Cranny Expansion ....
I still check the game daily just to see if Redd is visiting, or to look for some missing fish/bug/sea creature
Look, for all our friends from the Northern Hemisphere who had not played the game during winter, a small tip ... you can only get ice furniture projects from the snow boys.
I´ve seen some people on Twitter looking for spare projects but that´s only possible if you play with more than one profile (more than one character) because the snow boys never give you double projects. If you get all projects they will give you large snowflakes instead.
@TioRogerio
They can wait extra storage and Visiting random islands in dreams tho i wish they had brewster
Forget the winter stuff, random dreams are back, yesss!
Suddenly i recalled if from Datamining that said there were some new crops such as tomato, onion, corn, etc.
But the crops didn't even showed from the trailer despite it showed some dishes like soup.
And to think the crop was only pumpkin from the trailer, will we create pumpkin soup for the recipe or it will be random (new recipes) for everyone ?
Three holidays in one update? I must be dreaming...time to plan out where to put all this new stuff now! 😂
This is the best update thus far!
I'm really excited for more storage, random dreams and new hairstyles.
All I want now is multicrafting and multi NMT printing and The Roost coffee shop.
More storage is a godsend. I had just reached 1600 and was having to sell off a bunch of stuff.
New reactions and random dream islands are also great additions. Was annoying having to always type in a dream address.
Since I'm not a time traveling cheater, I've been really looking forward to seeing some snow on my island for a while now.
@Anti-Matter
You said

That will probably hidden until turkey day or earlier
I knew there was a reason to pay of the final house debt, not that being able to change the front of your house everyday was not worth all that money, but more storage is always welcome.
Random Dream Islands are the biggest plus for me here! I don't always want to see the absolute best islands on the internet, which tends to be what you see most often being spread around the internet. I love the randomness of wondering what I will see and enjoy!
@Anti-Matter
What did the data miner get something wrong!
@johnvboy I'm in dire need of the storage, but until now I had no intention of paying off the final loan. Me fail!
Quality of life fizes are nice (more storage yay!) but Ive been pretty bored on my island for a while now. Its just a seasonal recipe grind now...
What we really need is more storefronts, buildings, and house expansions to waste that massive stockpile of bells we all have got now on the ABD! Y'know cause there's nothing to spend it on after a while...
@teixeiras you can always time travel back to the days for those recipes
@Anti-Matter I did think that Pumpkins and Mushrooms were going to be a part of it a good while ago.
(I made my guess about it on the 5th of November)
I have saved up these ingredients as of the current time.
490 Orange Pumpkins.
257 Yellow Pumpkins.
317 Green Pumpkins.
277 White Pumpkins.
56 Skinny Mushrooms.
41 Flat Mushrooms.
48 Round Mushrooms.
19 Elegant Mushrooms.
13 Rare Mushrooms.
Just when I was thinking of leaving the game because I ran out of stuff to do.
Man I wished they'd l localize some holidays. Our "Turkey Day" was in October, feels weird to celebrate it this month. Other than that, I'm pretty happy with the update! I can finally make my villager bald just like me!
@dew12333,
Same here, but for some reason I caved in and paid it, your choice is the best though, as unless there was some future upgrade it was just wasted bells.
@BenAV
I'm that creepy person that randomly added you on the switch never was very good at this whole making friends thing...
I have to say i love your taste in games as well as how much you play.
Have senpai levels of admiration of you. hope you don't mind
was stalking incase you've found any hidden gems, cause missing awesome games kinda gives me anxiety XD
The two holidays are really nice, but I'm most excited for the expanded storage and the random dreams. This game just keeps on giving.
Hopefully there will be an update that expands our house even further, as well as adding extra buildings.
Still need that Dj club that was in New Leaf, but still a cool update.
Nintendo life needs to put this on their front page so you see it when you open the website
Kinda disappointed. The Christmas objects they showed are all already in the game.
EDIT: I realized that there is a door wreath in the video that I don't think is presently in the game. It is a very welcome addition! BTW, I don't mean to complain too much. The Christmas objects already in the game are fantastic.
@RainbowTashie Aw thanks. I was wondering who you were (figured you probably must have been from here) but I don't mind at all. I did notice that you play a pretty interesting range of games when I was looking at your play activity.
Muffy left and a new update in the same week? Sounds too good to be true
Nice update!
I was just nearing the 1,600pc storage limit and so the extra 800 slots will be a big relief. Random dream visits sound great, as do the new reactions, hairstyles, and the ability to sit down!! Toy Day in particular looks adorable. <3
I can't wait to share the news with my kiddos later.
They haven't been playing much ACNH lately as it's been all Minecraft...
@BenAV
hehe you can remove me if i get annoying.
BOTW is the first switch game i bought and only just playing it now OOF that backlog XD though i'm sure you can relate
THE TOY DAY MUSIC <3
@Harmonie there’s a new stack of presents too and a Christmas cake log.. thing. I don’t think they showed EVERYTHING that’s in the update in the trailer or on the blog.
@shonenjump86 K.K. Slider already comes to your island and you can get emotes from just playing regularly. There’s no point of bringing back that feature unless you just want more buildings in general, which is reasonable.
@Anti-Matter I think they didn’t show the other ingredients because it’ll be a surprise.
How about an update that actually let's us obtain the fall and mushroom DIYs?
Not to sound ungrateful, this update looks fun. But I have barely been able to enjoy the last one because I can't find the DIYs. It makes collections of mushrooms and nuts and leaves pointless.
Still waiting for everything that was in New Leaf's BASE GAME and QOL improvements to the garbage shop and crafting systems
They're taking the mick now
@Heavyarms55 The infrequency of the seasonal DIYs has been a bone of contention for me. It was the issue with Halloween ones as well. They give you a couple and then it's just a bunch of repeats or an obnoxious amount of repeat DIYs you've already got dozens of. Then on the day of, the visiting NPC gives you the rest. By that time, the season is over and the recipes and items are sort of useless til next year. The exception being Bunny Day, which was the other extreme
@UmbreonsPapa I had much much better luck with the Halloween ones. They barely compare for my experience. If you had this for Halloween too, that really a painful thought...
I wonder how my Southern Hemisphere island will look with those Turkey Day decorations. Halloween was weird, Nook`s Cranny had tulips until September, in October carved pumpkings where at the front and now I'm back at tulips. Also, there were uncarved pumpkins around April.
Will I have Maple Leaf Resident Services even though there are no Maple Leaves around my Island? At least with the pumpkins I could actually harvest them and see them around hahaha
@TheSmashTheorist Valid, was real happy when she finally left in my copy of New Leaf
Still waiting for gyroids.
Tumble weeds pass by
Storage space expansion YES
@BenAV I understand what you are saying, you stayed daily for a while. I am still checking daily, but barely. Playing Spiritfarer was the game that put ACNH off my "must play first" game choice. While ACNH is great, there are so many good games out there.
