Re: Review: TAP TAP ARCADE 2 (Wii U eShop)

@vanzan

I'll give him one thing - he proves how easy it is to get a game published on the Wii U - something I'd love to do in the future.

I wouldn't lower myself by flipping ready built games from an asset store though.

Re: StreetPass Update Adds New Minigames and Premium Option to Hold 100 Hits

edhe

This is fantastic - I just threw away 10 encounters by accidentally clicking the wrong option on the Plaza opening screen, and I often had to strategise when to open my 3DS and let in 9 (or risk going for 10 and losing few hits in overflow). I'd definitely welcom the ability to accumulate more than 10 miis without having to worry about losing any.

I discovered this in the notification, and although I didn't initially catch the part about it requiring streetpass premium, I wouldn't mind spending a few more pounds on the plaza.

I'm curious about the new games too, although currently, I'm still trying to get a birthday bloom in Streetpass Gaden for a job (I foolishly sold it when I got it the first time around), and two more gold ticket legendary fish on Streetpass Fishing...

Re: Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse And 7th Dragon III Code: VFD Confirmed For Euro Winter 2016 Release

edhe

SMT is going to be a physical edition as well as a digital edition, isn't it, unless I'm mistaken. That would be preferable for me, as my SD card is pretty much full.

I don't mind waiting, personally - I'll probably be looking at the new Phoenix Wright game in the mean time (again, I can't remember if it's digital only, although I'm inclined to believe it won't have the physical option). I haven't really looked into 7th Dragon though.

BTW, both of those videos are private (I imagine they've been that way for a while too - not since you posted the article 2 hours ago). What were they supposed to be?

Re: New Gamescom Missions Are Available for European My Nintendo Accounts

edhe

Fascinating. I learned so much about the upcoming Gamescom as an anglophone visiting the German Nintendo website(!)

Clearly, Nintendo Europe's intention with this rewards system is to make people aware of their Gamescom show, tune in, and subequently, buy their games, but for anyone who doesn't speak German, it's a wasted effort.

They couldn't translate it to any of the other European languages?

I'll take those coins though, NoE.

Re: Pokémon Uranium is the Latest Ambitious Fan-Made Game to Run The Gauntlet

edhe

This is getting tiring.

So why don't they just make a clone game, and remove all references to pokemon. Surely they know The Pokemon Company will go after this without prejudice.

Those online features are quite natty - I can't imagine them staying up once The Pokemon Company brings the hammer down (although ultimately, the game will be available through torrents, I'm sure).

With that being said, it looks like a well polished game - that's probably because it "borrows" sprites and UI design from the official games, and the unique pokemon look quite nice too (certainly better than the more infamous bootleg examples).

I'd rather stick with the official games to be honest.

Re: Atlus Reveals New DLC Details for Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse

edhe

Having played Persona 3 in the past 12 months, I was a little concerned with how a lot of the demons were present in SMT IV as well.

It's reassuring to see there's new artwork for some of the demons (apart from both Persona 3 and SMT IV - the two games I've personally played), as well as a few new ones too - for me, that is the one thing that will sell me on the game.

Re: Guide: How To Gain XP Fast In Pokémon GO

edhe

I'm dissapointed that I can't really play Pokemon Go to its full extent (owning only an iPod Touch - not 4G), and, living in a rural area, I'm limited to when I can get online with the app.

I had a a look at that pokevision site, and there's just one pokemon in my vicinity; a weedle - not that I can catch it anyway.

I might get use out of it yet though - sometimes I go to the big city, and I'll see what I can catch then!

Re: Video: We Need To Talk About Ghostbusters 2 On The NES

@Damo

Too perfect, that you went on twitter 5 minutes later to post a screencap to your followers.
https://twitter.com/DamienMcFerran/status/756052314893541376

You're being disingenuous when you claim the negativity towards the new Ghostbusters film is 'purely' because of its female cast. You're trying to stir things up, and you know it.

Just like the barrage of Pokemon Go stories of questionable relevance, I see this only as a way to generate clicks. However, as questionably relevant as what a Sony exec may have to say about how they beat Pokemon Go to the punch, or a handy new life hack to hatch pokemon eggs faster, hopping on the Ghostbusters/Misogyny bandwagon seems to me like a cheap ruse to facilitate repeated visits to the page.
Especially since Nintendolife's actual contribution to this article is three short paragraphs.

Re: New Atlus and SEGA Publishing Deal is Great News For European Gamers

edhe

@boatie

That's another worry people have - defying common practice with the PS3, Atlus region locked the Persona fighting games, and there are fears they may do the same again.

It would make sense - it's a sony exclusive, and Sony may nudge them to encourage people to buy a PS4 for it.

But I live in hope...

Re: Editorial: Mighty No. 9 and High Profile Disappointments Don't Invalidate Crowdfunding

edhe

Personally, I haven't backed a kickstarter since that Super Famicom Box Art book (which was subsequently cancelled) two years ago. I can't say I've heard of many interesting projects lately

I was made aware of most of my backed projects through Destructoid - and boy, were these games hyped up. But through a lack of hearing about any interesting games on kickstarter, having backed a few underwhelming games, and even a cursory look at what's currently running on Kickstarter at the moment, I can't say I'm too upset about not backing anything on Kickstarter for the last few years.

I might have liked to have been a backer for Bloodstained though.

Re: Editorial: Mighty No. 9 and High Profile Disappointments Don't Invalidate Crowdfunding

edhe

I'm not even sure why I backed MN9 in the first place - I never really was a fan on Mega Man, but I have to admit the concept art looked really appealing, and I was willing to give it a shot.

It was my second biggest pledge at $40 - after a game called Starlight Inception at $45 - and this will likely be the second game I discard, having backed it on Kickstarter.

If I've learned anything personally, it's to think very carefully before I back anything on that site. Most of what I've backed so far has been underwhelming, but I've got La Mulana 2 & Shantae to look forward too, at least.

Re: Eiji Aonuma Rules Out The Option to Play as a Female Link in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

edhe

@Dezzy RE: "status quo", I'm glad I wasn't the only one to pick that up.

Let me paraphrase that section in my own way:

"For those that felt [they can only relate to a character if they share the same genitals], this is sure to be [triggering]. On the other side of the fence, however, some fans may be pleased that [the developers were able to maintain their artistic integrity in the face of screeching gender idealogues.]"

Re: Review: Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together (SNES)

edhe

This was the #1 game I wanted to see re-released in English, back from when I played it on an emulator. I played the GBA entry too (Knights of Lodis, IIRC), which was pretty good, although I suspect the game was a knockoff, because the battery died - I may have to pick it up again some time. The Ogre Battle games just don't compare.

So I was ecstatic when it was eventually re-released in Europe on the PSP - I was actually lucky enough to get a hand me down PSP from my sister, and I bought it in a flash.

The PSP version has quite a few nice additions, like a unique dungeon, craftable items(?) and the ability for you to skip to any point in the story once you've witnessed it to see one of the many different routes.

I'd still support a Western VC release though...

Re: Nintendo's Updates Its Guidance on Super Mario Maker Level Deletions

edhe

Whenever someone plays one of my courses, I play theirs, and likewise, whenever someone stars one of my courses, I reciprocate - unless they're all kaizo levels.

I wish some of my levels (particularly my latest one) would get a bit more attention - I spent a lot of time making them, and while I can admit some of my levels are quite difficult, the fact of the matter is, the more popular levels will always be be the auto/"keep run" levels.

Speaking of my last level, I really thought it had been online longer, but it turns out it was only published 2 weeks ago. Nevertheless, only 2 people have played the course. It's one of my better attempts, and if no-one plays it soon, I'm sure it will be deleted.

As for what levels I tend to play, I usually only discover levels through the 100 Mario Challenge. As such, I don't like to stick around on a level that's good, but I can't beat in 3 lives (I've only beaten Expert difficulty once). However, I may fave it (I think they've changed the system, whereby you can't give out a fave until you've been in the level for a certain amount of time), and go back to it later to try and beat it.

But in playing Expert mode, I have to admit I developed a rule of thumb - I got to the point where I was skipping every Japanese course, because I couldn't risk it taking one of my precious lives in the first few seconds. In fact, some where too quick, and would kill you almost instantly. Maybe I was unlucky, but in Expert mode, I don't f*** about - and in this case, it paid off.
I've played plenty of Normal difficulty courses, but they tend to be laughably easy, on the other end of the scale.

In this regard, I can see why it's easy for some levels to not get the recognition they deserve, but once you can get followed by a good number of people, you're set for life. I suppose I should probably start pimping my courses on the forums - that's the best way for anyone to get their courses out there.

Re: Reminder: Flipnote Studio 3D Debuting in Europe as My Nintendo Account Incentive

edhe

It's a shame it isn't going to be more widely available, but I'll make sure to get it, because like others, I've been waiting for this for years.

Nintendolife had an article about the reveal over 3 years ago. Europe and North America were then told the game would be delayed, and then that business happened in Japan where some perverts were communicating with children through the app [swapnote], and so flippnote (along with swapnote) was gutted, and it was only in 2015 that anyone outside Japan was able to get hold of it.

I haven't really been keeping up to date with what was in and what was removed, so can anyone reiterate what the state of the app is now? If I was to guess, you can now only share animations with your 3DS friends, and export them as .gifs.

Re: Nintendo Issues Statement On Side Quest Changes In Bravely Second

edhe

I fail to see how the removal of story options from a game can be seen as an improvement.

Ironically, the Japanese gamers get to experience the different outcomes in the sidequests, tears streaming down their faces, bottom lips quivering as they experience such high levels of undue regret.

But we get to avoid this clearly upsetting content. I can already see the suicide rates dropping!
