We've already been promised some very welcome summer updates for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but this weekend brings even more fun in the form of the very first Bug-Off.
If you live in the summery Northern Hemisphere - and currently baking alive if you're in the UK like us - then the next few months are about to get a little more interesting. On every fourth Saturday over the next four months (including tomorrow, 27th June) you'll be able to take part in this cool competition hosted by none other than Flick.
If you haven't heard of the Bug-Off before, it works in a very similar fashion to C.J.'s Fishing Tourneys, with players having to catch as many bugs as they can in a time limit. We have all the details you could ever possibly need in our Bug-Off guide.
Between this and the upcoming summer updates, life on the island is about to take a welcome turn for the better. Will you be diving in to all of this new content? Tell us below.

Headsup. Doing it in multiplayers yields more points. Not only does the bonus points go up from 2 to 10 but also everyone gets eachothers points added to theirs.
EDIT: And the gold bug off trophy requires like 500 points on one saterday.
If Timbra winds up beating me I'm going to lose my s...
What about Southern hemisphere?
It took place a few days ago on Nintendo 3DS and I got the first prize.
@Anti-Matter southern has it in december to march.
If it's anything like the fishing tournament, I'm destined to get a silver trophy. No way do I have the will to spend hours catching however many insects.
Is this why K.K. is on my island today? I was so confused this morning as I've never time travelled etc. and thought it was Saturday.
Here's a pro tip for people new to Animal Crossing, or for people that weren't aware of this handy trick:
The best method to catch bugs is to press and hold the A button while having the net equipped, which will enable you to stealthily creep upon any unsuspecting bug, without the risk of it scaring them off, regardless of whether or not their animation has started or stopped. (a hint that was mentioned in the article about catching bugs, that was posted yesterday)
And once you're close enough, simply release the A button, and you'll automatically scoop them up.
It's the easiest, most fail-safe way of getting your hands on all those little creepy-crawlies...
Very nice, the fishing tourney needs to be like this
What about us, southerners? No winter themed events and updates? I know that the majority of the world population lives in the northern hemisphere ( and most consumers of videogames who live in the developed countries are there to), but c'mon, nintendo, show us some love!
@Jimez Fishing tourneys work exactly the same lmao
What do those living on the equator get?
@msm2000 so that the "kk" event doesn't overlap with the bug-off tournament. The same happened with Bunny Day I think.
@waluigi86 : We already had our tourney shortly after launch.
We've also been able to experience and collect autumn/winter recipes while those in the north have experienced spring/summer.
We're having disparate experiences that correspond to the seasonal variation on our side of the world, and that's what makes it so great. Frankly, it's been long overdue and a feature I have wanted for years.
I also quite like the fact that those of us in the south are experiencing the game quite differently to the majority in the north.
@Bondi_Surfer : Unseasonable variation!
