Re: Fire Emblem Heroes Gets Into the Festive Spirit With Daft Outfits

@Bobb

Only a month after its release, data miners found reference pictures in the app that matched two of the finalised heroes you see in the above video. Robin had a full character image, while Tharja had just a cropped portrait image.

If the game was released as originally planned, and going through each of the seasonal banners, you'd have had M.Robin, Tharja, Lissa, Chrom, another Chrom, Camilla, Xander, Lucina, Charlotte, Lyn, Caeda, Cordelia, Xander, Elise, Frederick, F.Robin, Gaius, Tiki, Leo, F.Corrin, Nowi, Henry, Jakob, Sakura, and, counting the seemingly unique children banner, Soleil, Shiro and Siegbert.

That amounts to 13 from Awakening, 12 from Fates, and 2 from elsewhere (and only because they're as popular characters as Lyn and Caeda).

I too would have liked to have seen more variety in the seasonal characters, and although Lissa, Tharja and male Robin don't have an alternate hero like some others (i.e Chrom with his regular and Spring variations), they could have taken the opportunity to introduce a few other characters from Awakening, like Kellam or Miriel. In fact, on the subreddit, people joked Hector (as he appears in FE6) would have made a suitable "Santa", although if they were going to class the sack as an axe, it would have clashed with Hector's standard weapon.

Then again, I stand a greater chance of getting a Vaike or a Miriel if they are added as regular heroes - Charlotte being unique as only appearing in the game as a special Valentines day unit - now, sadly unavailable for summoning.

I might be lucky this time - I've got close to 100 orbs stocked, and I've been relatively lucky in getting the special units during my time with the game when a special banner is going on.

@Bobb

You might not know this, but these characters were originally planned for when the game was to be released last Christmas, but the game was pushed back, and a Christmas event would have been inappropriate.

Someone on Reddit theorised that the heroes wouldn't have neccesarily all been 1-tile moving armoured units either, but the expert meta (in the arena for example) utilises armoured units, and, generally, those experts spend a lot of money on the game to create superior units. Thus, armoured units would be particularly attractive to them.

Re: Sega's Valkyria Chronicles 4 Is Marching Towards Nintendo Switch

edhe

Fantastic news! I played the 1st one on PC, that led me to buy the 2nd on PSP (though I have yet to play it), and I was looking to import the 3rd one, and mod my PSP to play that one.

I had heard Valkyria Revolution (the real fourth one) was a bit of a letdown, so I hope this one really does stay true to the original formula. I'll definitely look to pick it up one the switch, although I'm wary that it might be a situation where the publishers cheap out on a small capacity game card, and I'll have to download the remainder onto an SD card.

Also, I'd be surprised if it doesn't end up on PC too, given the success of the first game, but that's irrelevent to me as I'm pretty confident I'll opt to get this for the Switch.

Re: Take a Look at Three Musou / Warriors Games Heading to Switch in Japan

edhe

I've been playing Dynasty Warriors 8 Xtreme Legends over the last month or so, and as far as introductions to the Musou subgenre, it's pretty great.

The roster is large and varied, and the characters are interesting, and the setting is really interesting - despite me having no prior knowledge of the source material - the Romance of the Three Kingdoms Epic.

I'm a bit underwhelmed by the new Fire Emblem Warriors game, even though I've preordered it, because, while I'm more familiar with the Fire Emblem universe, it would have been nice to have as large a roster (Orochi has 145, according to that trailer) - as many unique weapons - cameos of lesser fire emblem characters as officers (although Dynasty Warriors has hundreds of these, they're generic characters with mix-and-match headwear/voices/heads, so this wouldn't really work for Fire Emblem Warriors).

But then again, Fire Emblem Warriors brings some new mechanics to the table, so I'm hopeful it'll be fun in its own way.

Re: Fire Emblem Heroes Adding Characters From Genealogy of the Holy War

edhe

If there is one game that would make me spend money on microtransactions, it's this game. I've withstood the temptation so far.

Sigurd, in particular is a particularly desirable unit, as has bonuses to both close and ranged attacks. He's being touted as a Reinhardt counter (a unit, I'm ashamed to admit I rely on to heavily).

As such, I've used up most of my orbs trying to get all of the special dancers in a previous banner (2 Azuras, 2 Shigures, and a single Inigo, so I stand next to no chance getting any of these three when they're made available, but at least, they'll be obtainable during later banners.

Re: Behold The Majesty Of The SNES Classic Mini Game Manuals

edhe

Instruction manuals are a lost art. I wish they'd put a little effort in to the digital ones if they'll insist on not including them any more.

There's always space for leaflets and system manuals in several different languages though.

You can save these though, and print and bind them yourself, if you're so inclined, although if I recall, there's a resource out there that has much more than just these SNES Mini games included.

Re: Check Out a New NES Game - Amazon's Running Diet

If only she bought a treadmill, she wouldn't have to worry about dodging cakes. Or better still, an excercise bike, so she doesn't risk falling on her backside, and destroying the world, as demonstrated in the game over sequence.

Re: Celebrate The 30th Anniversary Of Street Fighter With This Pricey SNES Cart

edhe

@GauBan

You know that for a fact? It does sound feasible, but you never know - they could have assigned about 5 copies, which sold out almost immediately. Unless that's their policy - to not sell to UK from overseas stock?

It could have been nice to get one, solely for flipping on eBay, but while I have a modded SNES, I was never that keen on Street Fighter anyway. It might be intersting to see how much they turn up for on eBay once they're all out in the wild - particularly the glow-in-the-dark once - assuming they haven't all spontaneously combusted.

Re: The Third Pokèmon Sun and Moon Global Mission is Now Live

edhe

Trading on the GTS is such a pain. I know some pokemon are rarer than others, but many are asking for legendaries for simple pokemon - Cutiefly for Celesteela!.

Seeking is an absolute waste of time. Depositing is a safer bet, although you often have to wait a while for any trade to be fulfilled. With this in mind, the target of 1 million is still achievable - especially if people are going to be gaming it like @Dino293 is suggesting.

Re: Pokémon Bank Update Adds Support for Pokémon Sun & Moon

edhe

I was looking forward to being able to register all these new pokemon in a pokedex in my copy of Sun, to read all the descriptions, and browse the variants. I'm really disappointed we can't do that in the new game, and have to rely on going in to Pokemon Bank each time to check our progress with the national pokedex.

In any case, I'm now in the progress of transferring my pokemon over to Pokemon Sun - but not before cataloguing all the ones I am yet to get in X, and which ones I may need to trade for.

Re: Guide: A Breakdown of Confirmed Nintendo Switch Games and Release Dates

edhe

They're going to need more than that for me to buy it on launch.

That's excluding Zelda, which if the rumours are true, may not necessarily be available, day one in Europe.

And Skyrim is due in the Autumn? That's far too late. They're sending it out to die. Not that I'll be buying it anyway - I've already got the PC version.

As for games I will be looking to get, Disgaea (a nice surprise), Fire Emblem Warriors and Super Mario Odyssey are the only ones I've got to look forward to this year.
Beyond that, Xenoblade Chronicles looks like a sure bet, I'll probably want to get Dragon Quest, and I might get Stardew Valley (if the PC version doesn't tempt me first), but above all, Shin Megami Tensei V is the game I will buy a Switch for.

Re: Nintendo Will Continue To Develop 3DS Software After Switch Launch

edhe

The Switch doesn't have dual screens, it probably doesn't have touchscreen or Stereoscopic 3DS, and it doesn't appear to have a camera either.

There's no reason why they won't continue supporting the 3DS for the time being, and continue to make games base aroun the hardware, but if their intention with the Switch is to merge the two platforms, going forward, I can't see them making a new dedicated handheld in the future. It'll be a shame to see the DS go the way of the Gameboy...

Re: Oceanhorn, A Game Inspired by The Wind Waker, Confirmed for 'A Nintendo Console'

edhe

"Inspired".

You know what they say - 'Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.' It looks very similar indeed, and with his blue tunic, the protagonist looks a bit like Skyward Sword Link too.

I don't remember reading about this game when that article was posted around 18 months ago, but it looks pretty well made. Music by Nobuo Uematsu too.

I probably won't buy it though - I think Breath of the Wild will be all the Zelda I'll need on the NX.

Re: UK Nintendo Zones Are Now Only To Be Found In Branches Of GAME

edhe

No wonder I've only been getting 4 streetpasses for the whole day. Coupled with the possibility there are less people with a 3DS around, gathering streetpasses is becoming increasingly harder.

It used to be that I could sit in a shopping centre for a few minutes, and I'd have my 10 hits that I could let in, then repeat for another 10, then I'd play the games when I got home.

The new streetpass games look like they're going to be difficult to finish off, due to this.

I had been trying to look into the Homepass system - with a little fiddling with your computer, you can turn it into its own network node, and collect as many hits as you want. It kind of goes against the original intention of streetpass, but it's looking quite appealing now.
That is, if I could get it to work...

Re: Mythical Pokémon Keldeo Confirmed for Anniversary Distribution in October

edhe

I enjoy levelling up pokemon, and making them my own, so these distributions where they fling out untrainable lvl. 100 pokemon seems kind of pointless to me (I'm presuming they can't be bred). You can't even rename them. What am I supposed to do with them?

Nethertheless, it's one more pokemon I need to complete my X pokedex, so I'll go ahead and snap it up when the time comes.
