Re: Video: Digital Foundry Compares Monster Hunter XX on Switch and 3DS

Wow, the Switch version just looks so beautiful compared to the 3DS version. Of course the Switch version was always going to be much better, but it's still great to see the comparisons side by side.

I've said previously that if they released the 3DS and Switch versions in the West, then I'd be fine with the 3DS version and that I wouldn't buy a Switch for this. However, I'm not so sure about that any more.

Re: New Trailer Reveals Fresh Details for Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon

I was excited for these games initially, but my hype levels are dropping fast. So far, they are not looking that different from Sun and Moon. The Alolan map in this trailer didn't appear to show many changes from the S&M map, and we haven't seen any new Pokemon except for a Lycanroc forme that's only available for a limited time.

If they want to get me excited for Ultra S&M again, then they're going to have to showcase some new areas, have more story details, and show off new Pokemon forms (Alolan forms for a selection of Pokemon from all previous generations instead of focusing on one generation would be fantastic).

Re: Editorial: amiibo Has Stalled, Because Nintendo is Forgetting What Makes It Special

Smash was still the best use of amiibo. Back in the Smash days, it was all about grabbing your favourite character and then personalising it through training.

Now, amiibo is mostly used just to unlock content in games. Some of it is cool, like special outfits. But some things they lock behind amiibo are frustrating, such as difficulty levels.

I'd like see the write function being used a lot more in amiibo, so using it in such a way that requires data to be stored on the amiibo instead of it just unlocking things.

Re: Here's What Those Lovely New amiibo Do In Metroid: Samus Returns

There's some confusion here. If the galleries, difficulty and sound tests can be unlocked normally from completing the game (but earlier on with the amiibo), then that's cool. However, if amiibo are required as well as completing the game to unlock them, then that's annoying.

Locking difficulty settings behind a paywall is always frustrating. And sound tests and galleries are usually free in games (even if effort is needed to unlock them), so charging for these does seem greedy.

Re: Review: Splatoon 2 (Switch)

So ranked mode is more of the same, which is by no means a bad thing, but I would have liked to seen them add at least one new ranked mode.

Salmon mode is looking great, and will be lots of fun with friends. Single player seems like a well deserved improvement from the first game, and is the mode I'm most interested in.

The big problem for me is the rotation system. I don't like that Salmon Run and specific ranked modes are only available at certain times. If I'm in the mood for Tower Control and they only have Rain Maker available, then that sucks.

The 10 out of 10 score seems too high for this game. From what I've read so far, I would have likely gave it an 8, or maybe a 9.
