The European Nintendo Download Update is live, and it's jam packed with options this time around. On Nintendo Switch we have six games including one published by Nintendo, while the 3DS has a notable first-party IP along with some other options. The Wii U doesn't miss out either, while there are plenty of discounts and some DLC option to also consider - let's get to it.
Nintendo Switch eShop
Flip Wars (Nintendo, €9.99 / £8.99) - Developed by Over Fence Co., the core concept is around multiplayer matches in which players compete by flipping over tiles to their colour, with various environmental factors and items that come into play; it includes local and online multiplayer. We'll flip out and then bring you a review.
IMPLOSION (Flyhigh Works, €12.00 / £10.79) - A mech-based sci-fi hack and slash game that boasts of high production values and has transitioned from smart devices, it looks rather decent in gameplay footage. We'll dispense justice and let you know what we think in a review.
I and Me (Ratalaika Games, €9.99 / £8.99) - This is a puzzle game in which you control two cats at the same time, a concept we've seen utilised a few times over the years. It has positive user reviews on Steam - where it launched in May 2016 - and promises plenty of content. We'll get cracking on a review.
Shephy (Arc System Works, €4.99 / £4.99) - This is based on a card game where you attempt to fill the earth with sheep, and it's quirky. Primarily for solo players and pitched as a relaxing good time, we'll try to make sense of it in a review.
Metal Slug 2 (HAMSTER, €6.99 / £6.29) - Those familiar with Metal Slug have a good idea of what to expect here, with chaotic and hugely entertaining run and gun action and stylish visuals from the Neo Geo era. Until we take a fresh look you can check out our Wii Virtual Console Metal Slug 2 review, and remember that as an ACA release it'll have the usual filters, save options and online leaderboards as expected with the series.
Vaccine (Rainy Frog, €9.99 / £8.99) - This is a retro-styled survival title that draws inspiration from the earliest Resident Evil titles, albeit with a time-limited narrative and randomisation in each run. Unfortunately we weren't fans of its previous release on the Wii U eShop in our Vaccine review.
Nintendo Switch DLC
Blaster Master Zero - EX CHARACTER: SHANTAE (Inti Creates, free until 20th July, then €1.99 / £1.79)
3DS eShop
Kirby's Blowout Blast (Nintendo, €6.99 / £6.29) - An interesting expansion and spin-off from a similar minigame in Kirby: Planet Robobot, this sees Kirby move around and battle enemies in three dimensional environments. There are 25+ stages, different medals to win and EX challenges as add-ons; we'll bring you a review soon.
Alchemic Dungeons (CIRCLE Ent., €5.00 / £4.99) - This is a turn-based rogue-like game with replayability courtesy of randomly generated dungeons. You can also craft your own unique items to aid your quest.
I am an air traffic controller AIRPORT HERO OSAKA-KIX (Sonic Powered, €14.99 / £13.49) - This is the third entry in this series in which you take on the frantic task of safely guiding planes on and off of the runways. You can choose from Story and Operation modes, with Kansai International Airport the destination this time around.

Guess I'll get Kirby Blowout Blast
Madness asking for €20 for Rayman Raving Rabbids on Wii U. The game when it does actually manage to sell on Ebay, goes for between £2 and £3.50.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_fcid=3&_clu=2&gbr=1&_from=R40&_sacat=0&LH_Complete=1&_nkw=rayman+raving+rabbids+wii&_sop=13
I really do miss Virtual Console releases... The Wii era was so exciting each week!
Got Implosion, Shephy and Vaccine, also the free Shantae character.
Great week for releases, hope KEMCO start bringing their RPGs to Switch. Liked the two I played on Wii U.
Will pick up Kirby at some point. It was a good mode in robobot. Pleased they haven't gone free to start. Found the last one a little underwhelming.
Has everyone noticed the slow and steady stream of interesting puzzle release coming to switch? That Shephy game looks really deep, and then next week I'm super intrigued about the game where you have to level up coloured numbers in a grid (can't find the name of it).
Wanted to get flip wars but looks a bit too much like bomber man for my tastes.
@eltomo Only in the 2nd half of the lifespan of the console. It took 2-3 years to get going anywhere and that's when it picked up steam but didn't maintain it forever. I do miss the VC so much though. We need it done right. Huge amount of titles at launch, from all platforms, 1st and 3rd party developed. Then not drip fed one no name title a week.
On topic, bought Metal Slug 2
Will get the Master Blater DLC whilst awaiting info on Implosion.
@eltomo I only wish they hasn't used the Wii Points system and at least had occasional sales. I would have bought so many more games.
Although the Wii U VC didn't have that many sales either.
@Pahvi I agree Rabbids Go Home is the better game.
Nintendos selling Rayman raving rabbids which is a early Wii game for 17.99.
Scalper prices.
If you really want this game, don't go to scalpers. Go to eBay
Am I correct in thinking Super Bomberman R is still discounted at around £30 on the Switch store? Does anybody think this is worth the money (I have a couple of the TG16 titles on VC)? Or do I save the cash for Splatoon 2 later this month? :/
@UK-Nintendo See SNES Classic on EBAY
Intrigued by Flip Wars but will wait for a few reviews
@RoomB31 well if Nintendo can sell that game for that price, eBay can too.
Well I blame the people who actually pay that sort of monies not the sellers
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Don't worry, I'm sure the 20-30% future discounts will make it no better.
@Blister Save it for Splatoon 2. If you have Bomberman games already, well its not going to play all that different unless you want an online multiplayer.
@Angelic_Lapras_King My general thoughts confirmed. Cheers!
Bought Vaccine, but holy poo is it harder than the Japanese version. Anyone played WiiU version and could tell me if it's insanely hard? So far i havent been able to beat it once.
@Arngrim have you tried has been heroes I can only ever beat first level boss
I think this is the most new downloads we've had in one week since launch day? ...so not bad overall. I'll be waiting on reviews before spending any money though. Shame Vaccine isn't very good.
@Blister Yes, it's still on offer. But I wouldn't bother even at the discounted price, if I'm perfectly honest. The TG16 games are much better imo.
I got IMPLOSION just need rid of kids to have a play
@Moon Thanks for your advice!
With all these Neo Geo games on Switch, is it too much to ask for Windjammers?
Don't buy Metal Slug 2 : it's full of bugs and framedrops.
Wait for Metal Slug X, its remake without all the technical problems, with better graphics and more.
@XenoShaun i picked up implosion, shephy to great games add to my switch
@Blister i think bomberman R is definitely worth buy now specially with all update content ive totally got back into it!
Probably nothing for me, but I'll need to have a look at that Kirby game.
Damn u NOA do ur job well!!! I wanted Flip Wars!!!
@XenoShaun u really got Shephy? Is it good? Sheep sex on the go I guess. ROFL!! Not but for real; is it good?
@Jessica286 set up a European account and download it through that!
@Luffymcduck that's a Data East game, so that would probably require some extra licensing effort on Hamster's part.
@Luffymcduck I just checked the Arcade Archives Wikipedia page there,it's a good way to see what Neo geo games are on the way next as they seem to update it every couple of weeks.Sadly no Windjammers yet but there is one game on the way that I've been asking for since the start.Super Sidekicks.
The next 4 TBA titles are Super Sidekicks,Aero Fighters 2,Fatal Fury Special and King of the Fighters 2000.
@Anguspuss I actually didn't get that, i was curious about it, but in the end decided to not grab it. Which im slightly surprised by myself, as i love the rogue-like genre.
That sheep game tho 🐑🐑
I was waiting for a Metal Slug 2 switch release since I saw it announced for Xbox One. I actually would have preferred Metal Slug X, but I guess this is an okay substitute. That said, given that they're not strictly "VC" games, it'd be nice if they tweaked the emulation somehow (or slightly update the game) to address the slowdown thing. While it might be deemed to be more trouble than it's worth, it'd still make a lot of sense, and they could always carry such improvements over to future releases of the game.
@ottospooky too lazy to do it.
@Blister I would wait till it's 20 quid in a used games store.
@OorWullie I have windjammer son the Neo geo cd- screw what people say about load times - I love that console 😍
@darthstuey Nice one. I've never actually played Windjammer but I'd love to. I've never played on a proper Neo Geo console either outside the arcades.

Pokémon: Look Upon the Stars (Nintendo, €1.99 / £1.79)
Oh Nintendo, you and your teasing ways!
While I really love these weekly updates, I do have a small complaint I just thought I'd bring up -
Each of these posts starts off with an image at the top of one of the games, but there's never any way to identify which game the shot is of. Is there any way you could start simply putting a caption after the image for easy reference? Quite often I see images of games I don't recognise and it's a little frustrating.
I'm assuming this week's is Flip Wars, but I do wish this was something that could be added in future.
As I say, I love these posts - they are my first source of Switch release info. But just thought I'd bring up my thoughts just in case they might be taken on board.
If Flip Wars ever comes to retail I will get it (don't do digital), as it looks like the sort of simple game that I can lose hours on, like Tetris or Chu Chu Rocket.
Ah Kirby. He will be downloaded by me...just sometime in the future.
@Jessica286 Its an alright game. I have been looking for some games I can just casually kill short bits of time with. Its quite difficult to get the 1000 sheep tally, but its ratger enjoyable and has a fair bit of strategy as you have to use all your cards to proceed. (Including the bad ones).
For a fiver it is decent. And much better then a certain other devs budget titles on a past console ;D
There also seems to be some sort of story mode also, but yet to check that and the challenge mode.
@Tate24 Yus! Am finding Implosion very satisfying choppy chop chop. Definitely wilk be up for more mobile ports of this calibur.
@XenoShaun hmm!! Sounds nice, I'll look for gameplay videos then. Thanks for responding.
Rayman Raving Rip-off - you can buy the Wii disc for less than a fiver!
