We're just a couple of days away from the launch of Sonic Mania on the Switch eShop, the latest intriguing release to head to the store. While the line-up of exclusive games on the Switch download store is modest (but arguably offering quality over quantity), we're seeing a diverse range of multi-platform titles. A number of releases in recent weeks and those still to come have made their name on PC and other consoles, and a handful have previously done so on mobile. The Switch often delivers terrific versions of these games, offering portable play and convenient local multiplayer options; naturally there are also a handful of games that need patches to improve performance.
A trend of recent times, in any case, has been a regular flow of announcements related to more games coming to the Switch eShop, on top of the many confirmed earlier in the year. A little while ago we shared an editorial praising the continued growth and diversity of the Switch eShop library, saying it's 'starting to look like the real deal'.
Well, we have a landmark on the way. Both the European and North American eShop libraries are sitting on 99 games (which naturally includes retail downloads), meaning Sonic Mania will be number 100. That means there have been plenty of games to consider, and no doubt more of us are unlocking that 'All Software' icon on the system HOME screen. As we head towards game 100, then, are you happy with what you've seen on the Switch eShop?

Couldn't be more pleased......oh wait, Mario, Rabbids/Mario, Skyrim, FIFA, and NBA 2K. Plus so many more!!
Here's the next question, how many months/weeks did it take the Wii U to get that many games?
Sonic Mania is game 20 for me. That should say it all.
I'm pleased, but the sooner Limited Run/I am 8bit get the partnerships necessary to release physical versions, the better.
Right now, I've only downloaded Snake Pass, Fast RMX, and Blaster Master Zero. I also have carts of BOTW and MK8D. I will definitely get Sonic Mania. I'm a big Metroid fan so I'll most likely get Axiom verge when it releases. I may also get Rayman Legends. Oh and Runner 3 is a definite buy, as is Super Mario Odyssey.
10 games. 10 good indie, first party and third party games. I feel as time goes on, and particularly as we head into September/October, the eShop will only get better.
So, I guess Mania WAS the 100th game scheduled to launch on the system (at least in Europe)... but now it's Troll and I. Great.
The only thing missing from switch is a fps game be nice if its gets one soon
I have 41 games on my switch. I didn't even realize it until this post
By this time next year anyone who had any fears should be quite relieved IMO. Remember, FINAL Switch hardware was not in the developers hands until November/December 2016. Yes they had earlier dev units that weren't as powerful IIRC and even that was only 4-6 months earlier.
My Switch is a Splatoon 2 machine and will remain that way until Odyssey.
I have been playing nothing but Zelda since March. By the end of the year I will also have Rocket League, Super Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and maybe FIFA.
To be honest, It is missing two of my favorite genres. Sports and Fps/3ps I love splatoon but am sad about the 3rd party support thus far. I want Madden, Cod, Destiny 2, Nfs, And most of all STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT 2. I will Be picking up Nba 2k Monopoly, Oddyssey Rocket league and Steep Granted all of those have physical releases. And I only buy physical games. The eshop containes many 8-Bit style games and RPGs And I really don't care about them oh well guess I will have to wait next year. (1 More thing why is there 98 games on the eshop and like 15 in stores, I get there is work and less money made from carts but they lose my sale completely so making 5 dollars less is different than not making any money at all from me. The selections for games at the store is sad.)
I only received and set up my Switch yesterday so obviously I only checked the Eshop out today.I didant buy anything as I already have plenty of games to keep me going but from what I saw I was pretty impressed with and if I ever get short of games (absolutely zero chance...ever!)there seems to be a good variety of games I'd be interested in
@John_Mcclane Your not alone...
Seiken Densetsu Collection could use some localization.
Actually I responded to my thoughts on the current eShop as a little disappointed.
However that changes in a month. There are over a dozen games I'd like releasing Between now and November
@bobjones1980 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fXY4OMy9IBw
Morphite!!
It's ok, but...OMG NINTENDO, give the thing some music. (and VC would be nice...)
It's alright so far. Still doesn't look like the Switch will be getting many of the big AAA 3rd party games. Lack of Monster Hunter Worlds is a big blow.
This month was the first time I found myself happy with the shop and finding more games in the shop than I have time to play. It was a little dry at the beginning, but it's getting a nice catalog now. I just picked up Phantom Trigger a couple days and I'm really enjoying that.
Sonic Mania will be game 30 for me. I'm very happy with my collection so far, not one regrettable purchase. The console is so nice to play on I'm finding myself buying games I would have skipped on Wii U .
I just want Overcooked, Earthlock : Festival of Magic and Portal Knights make a debut in Physical release on Switch as well, so my little betrayal against ps4 will be complete since I choose Switch version more than ps4 version. Hehehe....
Just saying. At least twenty are Aca neogeo titles.
Only really bought Snake Pass through the eShop, may be getting Mania. I'm not really interested in a whole lot of the indie titles that have been on the eShop lately, the main thing I'm waiting for is VC. Other than that, I'm firmly retail.
I'd like to know who bought 90+ games.
The Switch could use at least one major FPS, something that would work better for the system and audience, like Overwatch. By the end of the year I'll have my 3D platformer bug met with Odyssey, Sonic Forces and hopefully Yooka-Laylee. It's been a solid year for the Switch's game lineup so far, even if it could have been better it is miles better than the wreck it could have been if Nintendo hadn't prepared.
oh boy, I love all the positive comments coming from people who may have previously critizicised the Switch library.
And just to clarify, I said "may have" I didn't say "everyone"
But of course, I'll be getting counter comments anyway.
@bobjones1980 Ever heard of Metroid Prime 4?
@John_Mcclane Why not just port over all the sports games😉
@Malpais I think we are talking more 2017 There is no reason we should wait a whole year after a console comes out to get a game like that Maybe not even until holiday 2018
Blaster Master Zero and Mighty Gunvolt Burst are still keeping me busy.
The DLC adds a lot of replay value.
18 games, 8 retail games and 10 downloaded (not including demos). I'm happy with all the games I have and think the Switch has a great library, especially for it only being 5 months old!
Seriously really? Most of the games are garbage tablet games. There's nothing here for serious gamers on what's meant to be a dedicated gaming handheld. The eshop is thus far full of iStore/Google Play rubbish.
It's essentially casual delights. I'm not shelling out $20-40 for time wasting games.
@bolt05 I guess I'm not a serious gamer, then. Good thing those of us who enjoy what's available have you to set us straight.
I think the Switch will have 2 possible GotY contenders by the time the year is through! There are already some indie gems on the system. Retro games are finding a home on the eshop too (I am in heaven that my Switch is also a portable Neo Geo!!!). I reckon 2018 will also be the same recipe of Nintendo new projects bolstered by deluxe versions of Wii U games so they can guarantee at least 1 title a month as well as ensuring key AAA games get a chance on the Switch. Any game benefits from being able to be played wherever. Genius little console. Small...but perfectly formed (except for no analogue triggers booo).
But... but... the Switch has no gamezzz!
Edit: Ah, I see I now need to amend that old trope to the more timely, "But... but... the Switch has no serious gamezzz!" /s
I have already played on my Switch multiple times the amount of time I've spent on pretty much any other system during its first entire year. I also own more (digital) games than I have on any other system after its first year. Now, those may be pure assumptions on my part but it certainly feels like it to me.
I own twelve digital games on Switch thus far, with the 13th being Mania. Switch eShop has loads of great indie titles with many, of course, being ports. This doesn't bother me personally, though, as I've yet to play most of these ports or like them enough to buy them for a system I love. Of course, I'd like to see a vast VC library on the Switch eShop sooner rather later but I'm still busy enough with the backlog Splatoon 2 is building up.
I haven't bought any eShop games yet, but I'm looking at a few. I think that the eShop will be excellent once the navigation is improved, VC is added, and when we get more new games than Wii U ports each week 😛
@PanurgeJr I wasn't setting anyone straight though was I. Just voicing a negative and contrary opinion which I'm entitled to do. I think the eshop games are seriously disappointing so far.
After Odyssey and Xenoblade 2, I won't need anything until Prime 4.
Very pleased with what's on my machine and looking forward to the next few months too.
I would like to see a couple of solid FPS titles to round it out a bit for me.
Currently LOVING Strikers 1945, with the handy switch in portrait stance. Very novel and fun.
Taking a break from Zelda but will get that done before Splatoon 2 and some indies.
I have all of one download (World of Goo). Some games interest me, but they all seem so expensive.
Virtual Console, please.
@justin233 I agree. The majority of the games seem very expensive for what they are.
I picked up I am setsuna over the weekend as it was on sale for $40 Aus. I'm glad I didn't pay 90 to import the physical copy. It's certainly ok and not necessarily bad but it's not as good as many older RPGs in other less powerful hardware. It's not really holding my attentio and the handheld resolution is a little bit of a let down.
They can have all those games and more, i'm just waiting for an animal crossing
@bolt05 If you are disappointed in what the eShop offers, that is fine. If you wish to comment to that effect, that is fine. It is not fine to deride those who are interested in what the eShop offers as not being serious gamers. It is not for you, or for me, or for anyone here to decide what makes a serious gamer.
@PanurgeJr i believe I am entitled to my opinion regardless. You can absolutely disagree with what a serious gamer might mean. But you're now attacking me. My definition is clearly different to yours. Deal with it.
I've purchased 21 titles off the eshop. Currently having a blast with Namco Museum, such fun! Will be downloading Ironcast, Boost Beast and Sonic by Tuesday. VC or not, I'm satisfied. Enjoying the variety of everything. Neo Geo games are all top notch. Waiting for Rayman Legends, Monopoly, Sine Mora EX, Rocket League and more Neo Geo!!
@bolt05 What constitutes a serious gamer is outside the scope of opinion, and is therefore outside the scope of what you're entitled to.
I only have snipperclips and snakepass from the eshop. Everything seems expensive. I hate the some games have to be manually written in the search bar to find them. I have 4 retail games and there all from Nintendo. Hope the eshop gets better
@PanurgeJr everything is within the scope of personal opinion. But especially a gaming related message board lol.
@Anti-Matter wow your so evil and twisted
@bolt05 Well then my opinion is that your opinion is wrong. According to your argument I am correct.
Would you care to revise your statement?
I got 18 games, kinda surprised by that. Cannot WAIT for Sonic Mania
@PanurgeJr no. Because we can agree to disagree. Your logic is flawed.
The e-shop could be a great store but at present I think it is severely limited and sadly lacking, yes there are some good games but no Virtual Console options and the design of the store front in particular is awful, the 3DS e-shop is miles ahead of the Switch e-shop there is no rating system or consumer feedback for games on the Switch e-shop, no apps like YouTube or Netflix . Nintendo has a very long way to go with the Switch and I think they can I just hope they will.
I do wish for more retail Switch games in the coming months. Despite this, I only got 4 (Sonic Mania is going to be the 5th)
@bolt05 It's fine to have opinions, but you should refrain from speaking for others. You could have said that there's nothing for you. There is no need to unnecessarily involve other people.
@bolt05 Agreeing to disagree also doesn't apply. You are not entitled to decide how serious a gamer I am. Claiming it is an opinion does not grant you that entitlement. None of this is a matter of logic.
Actually at 98 games. One of the 99 is the Pac-Man Vs. multiplayer app. But, Sonic Mania can still be #100 since Troll and I comes out Tuesday as well.
Sonic Mania will be #36 for me.
@PanurgeJr I think my gaming is serious. I don't much mind what you think. Furthermore, I did not pass judgement of anyone else's style of gaming. Again, my definition of serious gaming is probably different to yours. I'm not iterating any further. It was a simple comment.
VIRTUAL CONSOLE WOULD REALLY COMPLETE THE STORE!!!
@Lizuka same for me. Have a few games, the usual Zelda, etc. Just not playing it. Seem to play PC (steam etc) over the past 3 or so months instead.
Retail: LoZ BoTW
Lego City Undercover
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Ultra Street Fighter II
Splatoon 2
Eshop: Metal Slug
Aero Fighters 2
Shovel Knight Treasure Trove
Mighty Gunvolt Burst
I am Setsuna
Fast RMX
Shantae Half-Genie Hero
Sonic Mania (soon)
Puyo Puyo Tetris (demo)
Rayman Legends (demo soon)
There's been just about enough for me at the moment and I picked up 5 eshop exclusives, but awaiting announced games to be released. Not much interested in the majority of what's available (which is probably true for most people), but apart from the AAA multiplats (that really don't look as if they're coming imo), there seems to be a fair enough spread for the first few months.
Also, always try to get physical if possible because of resale value and lower initial price.
The other thing is that the 3DS still has me buying games for that and PS4 too, so never stuck for something to play.
@bolt05 That is precisely my point. Your gaming is serious because you are serious about it. I know that without knowing anything else--what you play, who you play with, how often you play. You don't owe me or anyone else an explanation.
However, the same applies in reverse. Nobody owes you an explanation before being judged serious. I don't, nor does anyone else here. And since we are serious gamers, granted that description simply because we decide it applies, if there are games on the eShop that are for us, then there are games on the eShop for serious gamers. It is that simple. It is because we are both entitled to our opinion that neither of us is entitled to define "serious gamer", and why the definition is outside the scope of opinion.
@PanurgeJr I disagree with you. I'm not interested in discussing this any further but by all means knock yourself out.
@SwiKy No, I think we are talking about Switch games in general and considering it is quite new in the market I don't see why we shouldn't wait until 2018 for a shooter of the caliber that is Metroid Prime.
It's alright. Still haven't bought anything though, and I don't see that changing for a long time.
@bolt05 You were never interested in discussing this.
@Malpais There was a horror FPS announced for Switch the other day. No idea when it's coming but it certainly looks impressive. You can see the trailer and some game play here.Game play is from the PC version though.
https://youtu.be/h6F2I6R1cCM
@PanurgeJr look pal. I think the switch eshop appeals more to casual gamers rather than serious gamers. That's my opinion. You can disagree with my definitions which I can't be bothered spelling out because it really is not that important. You can dsagree with it altogether but it's my opinion and I don't feel the need to publicly berate you over yours but you seem to have a a very strong need to do this to me. Now I'm done. Goodbye.
I'm pretty disappointed but not with the games available in general... I'm disappointed because Japan is left out most of the time, specially with indies:
Snake Pass? No.
Overcooked? No.
Fast RMX? No.
NBA Playgrounds? No.
I could keep going on and on but you get my point. It's disappointing and infuriating. And the "but you can get them easily making a US/EU account" argument is not valid for me.
So no, right now the Nintendo Switch eShop catalog (in Japan) is mostly worthless.
Already bloated and full of garbage.
@bolt05 I definitely dsagree other it altogether.
@OdnetninAges those two games are awesome!
@OorWullie My money is on Jaxon. He does not let dollars get in the way of games he wants to play.
For this early in the system I'm happy enough with it, and it seems to have a ton of potential.
I really want to be able to preorder and predownload stuff. I hope that add that soon.
We just need life of black tiger.
@Indielink That made me laugh, I actually thought it could be Jaxxon myself.
@Tingle_The_Great We'll have to settle for Vroom in the Night Sky.
I will continue to have lukewarm feelings about the Switch eShop until Virtual Console games show up.
4 games:
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild - 10/10
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 9/10
Overcooked! Special Edition - 9/10
Death Squared - 8/10
..got Splatoon 2 on its way too!
#Happy
@PanurgeJr @Tingle_The_Great I think Troll and I will be taking the title as Switch's worst game on Tuesday,demoting Vroom in the Night's Sky to 2nd. Luckily the stinkers are a rare breed so far. The next lowest rated game after Vroom is Has Been Heroes with a 5/10, or at least it was the last time I looked.
I entered 0 purchases, but that is only because I don't have a Switch yet. All told, there's 10-15 games on the eShop that I would have now if I did have the system. I'm very happy with the eShop library so far.
If I'm being completely honest, I probably wouldn't have bought Arms, Fast RMX or Splatoon 2 if it weren't for the dearth of new games in the eShop. I've been pleasantly surprised by Splatoon 2's hero mode, but I sort of regret the other two. I'm mostly just impatient for the Virtual Console to make it's way to the Switch (and Mario Odyssey, of course).
Ah yes, 100 games already. Speaks to the classic Nintendo line: quantity not quality.
@DanElectrode you're not alone, brother. Many a Switch owner hath purchased a title out of pure thirst.
I don't know, the switch did not clicked with me yet.
I love the concept, I really enjoy breath of the wild but that's it.
Yeah, I know Mario Kart 8, Arms, Splatoon, Fate Xtella, etc etc, but I already own MK on Wii U, and arms, splatoon are both MP focus, so isn't for me.
Everything else, feel a bit flat, I can't say it's bad, but not for me yet! The same goes for eShop games.
So I hope that FEWarriors and Xenoblade make the console worth it for me this year, but it's just a opinion, I can understand anybody who loves everything on it already.
@bolt05 Have to click the ignore button with that guy, he will always try to get in the last word, even if you're right a thousand times over.
Just get Reggie out of the way and let Nintendo do what it does best.
This is a console with Xenoblade, Metroid prime, open Mario, and Zelda. No other system has all four those
I downloaded 4( Bulb Boy, Tumbleweed, NBA Playgrounds and I am Setsuna ), but I spend most of my time playing BoTW. Already logged more than 60 hours without even realizing it. My next big game will be Splatoon 2 and the next "small" will be Mania.
@bolt05 : Wat. You might wanna look again pal.
It's not bad. But, I was hoping to have had more RPG titles available, or at least very firm dates for holiday by now. I still hold out hope. My appetite for endless platformers isn't what it used to be.
@gatorboi352 To be fair purchasing a game out of thirst can lead to finding gems you never considered. My PS4 has been a trove of games I wouldnt look at otherwise!
@Aurumonado Whoa, it's almost as if it's a console that has....exclusive games! Such a thought is madness! Which by the way, of the 4 you listed, only one is out, and isn't an exclusive
Still only own BOTW and Splatoon 2. Sonic Mania will be my third Switch game. Don't regret getting it though.
My 20th game is going to be Sonic Mania. Love the current library, but really hope to see some official VC news soon.
Definitely quality over quantity. It's that lack of quantity that stops it short of "fantastic" for me.
@frogopus that's fair. I will note some are mobile ports and some are steam ports and they are also generally very much cheaper on steam.
So far I own 7 games on the Switch, with the only physical one being Zelda. That'll be 8 on Tuesday with Sonic Mania though!
I think the eShop library is pretty good so far considering the system is only five months old. Quite a few titles I've had to resist picking up (I'll probably cave in sooner or later). It'll continue to get better too!
Mostly been playing Splatoon 2 and Zelda, with the occasional Mario Kart
@RedMageLanakyn It touches me that you remember.
Love Zelda and Mario kart .. most the games on eshop seem like phone games..
3rd party support is pretty much nonexistent to this point
Seems they're aiming to be a 1st party machine with a penchant for indies.
AAA 3rd parties will pass them by as usual and Nintendo will be the "other console" in most houses. That went well for wii in terms of sales... and shovelware and we missed a lot of the best multi-plat games.
hoping that changes for switch, but in the meantime it seems like the big releases are missing while we get all these smaller e-shop releases.
@Mgene15 agree with both of your comments.
It's got holes, but I am pretty impressed in the general quality.
My preorder list for the Switch is
Sonic Mania
Skyrim
Mario + Rabbits
Mario Odyssey
Dragonball Zenoverse 2
sports, sports, sports
Waiting for MO, so I'm in drought country right now. Once I finish MO I'll box the Switch until MP4 comes. I'm ok with that.
They should release the SNES Classic early, as there's nothing on the Switch for me to play at the moment.
61 games in my software page. Of those, 44 are actual downloaded games. The rest are 15 physical releases, and 2 demos (MHXX and Dragon Quest Heroes 1/2).
It's looking good. The fact all these games are portable also is huge. Instead of buying on STEAM or PS4 or whatever, I always opt for the Switch version when possible. The Vita was the last system that offer these types of games portably... and that ship has sailed.
@crimsontadpoles
That's alright. Can play those on other consoles (not that I really ever care to- every day when I wake up and choose a game to play it's always a Switch game). As long as it has plenty of good games to play, what it has will be far more important than what it doesn't have. Most people will be too busy playing the great games it does have to even think about what it doesn't (played Zelda til Mario Kart released, played Mario Kart til Street Fighter released, played Street Fighter til Arms released, played Arms til Splatoon 2 released, playing Splatoon 2 til MHXX and Mario Kingdom Battle release, etc etc).
And it has a stack of exclusive games piling up that you will not find on other consoles, in addition to quite a few that you can, only with the hybrid incentive. I would have loved World on Switch specifically for that reason but... that's why I own every console. So that I can play any game I want. Because no console on earth is going to have everything. At least World will get me to play my other consoles, because right now nothing else is.
@PanurgeJr Im with you at 100% about all you have said. This guy is only in jugement. He simply dont have a deep mind. Simply as that. Hope he will forgive himself. The eshop have a lot of excellent games. If he dont like it, there's a lot of other options for him. He tells you that Its his own opinion to save himself. Its more like an insult to all gamers on this website. Hope he is not too old.
@Indielink @OorWullie
My money is on Jaxon. He does not let dollars get in the way of games he wants to play
As much as I'd love to take credit for that one, I'm only half ways to 90 digital games (44). There's apparently a much bigger fish in this crazy sea
@crackafreeze the thing is that I want to keep everything organized under just one account (which is the logic thing to do I believe) and keeping several different accounts is a mess that I don't like a bit. Besides, I need a way to get credit for those other eShops since Japanese credit cards aren't accepted. Also, the gold coins awarded for buying games would be divided intro 3 accounts... In the end is too much effort.
With the Switch, the developers need just one build of the game for all regions so simultaneous releases are possible. Most of them use the excuse of localization, but that's not a good excuse when some of the games just require a few menu words to translate. Besides, they could release the game as is, and then add localization in a future update.
Anyway, I'm quite upset because most of the games I want aren't coming to Japan or will come months (or even years!) after the US or Europe.
I'm glad for the amount of games the Switch Shop is getting. I'm very displeased at the amount of Physical games and what seems to be the Nintendo curse.....lack of 3rd party devs. They seem to jump on board in the beginning then they back away as they did with past systems. Nintendo has so many fans and I'm one myself that I think they just will not fail. Plus the fact that their handhelds have been off the hook good since the DS. I hope the Switch can at least be as good as those DS and 3ds systems have been. I do think it's very important the Switch see Monster Hunter XX get released everywhere. Nintendo might have to grab the reigns on that and port it themselves who knows.
Got around 25 eshops plus 8 physical versions. I still love my 3ds and have at least 2 games I'll be buying for that (MH Stories and Metroid). I no joke am closing in on 200 eshop games for the 3ds, with around 40 of those being digital versions of retail games. I'd definitely love some madden on the switch and also some marvel vs capcom.
@0muros I appreciate both the support and that you took the time to express it. Given that I filled up a good portion of this thread it is only fair to confess that the reason I reacted so strongly to his initial comment is that it is precisely something I previously would have said. I used to be a huge baseball fan and have told people that they weren't true fans because they didn't go to enough games, or didn't watch enough games on TV, or only watched the local team instead of two random teams during national broadcasts. So I can say from experience that it wasn't something as innocuous as just having a different definition of "true fan"; it was meant to imply they were false fans. It was meant to be insulting. And it is an utterly ridiculous notion, and unlike many childish notions that I have grown out of and that I am content to justify by having been a child, I am still embarrassed to have ever believed it.
There is also the irony that nobody who uses the phrase "serious gamer" or "true fan" ever believes that it doesn't apply to them. When I still believed that a true fan had to go to a certain number of games to qualify, it never occurred to me that it might be more than the number of games I attended. I just assumed I met whatever vague notion I had in mind.
I only have 2 games Mario Kart, and Breath of the Wild. I will be getting Mario + Rabbids, Odyssey, Yoshi, and the true Pokemon game though.
Zero so far, but only because the titles I've wanted have had physical releases I've gone for instead. I'll eventually get some digital games no doubt, possibly starting with my Yooka Laylee Kickstarter reward.
Optimistic about the store but as above I've preferences physical releases to date. The prices have been the same or better physically, and I'm still a bit tentative when it comes to Nintendo and digital. Also while I can't log into multiple Switch's at once, physical provides a better sharing mechanism should we get a Switch for our son. The current restrictions, while better than previous consoles, does still feel like I'm locking myself to a single device. I think family sharing needs to open up a bit more.
My Nintendo coins are expiring before they even offer rewards for the Switch.
Got the only 2 games worth owning the system at this point. Puyo Puyo Tetris and Splatoon 2. Everything else the Switch has is garbage like ARMS, or is a lazy cashgrab like ARMS, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Street Fighter 2.
I have 10, which is way more than usual for me. I always buy a cartridge given the choice. I would really love to be playing Mario 64 and Sunshine on it right now while waiting for Odyssey, too bad. I do have more than enough to keep me busy, and a lot of preorders as well. All the hype around Sonic has me curious, but I don't think I've played any since the first and I don't remember loving it back then.
I am very excited for the future of the eshop.I have so far bought four games and plan to but others soon.
The only game I am looking forward to is Sonic Mania which i am buying August 15th. In the future when the price comes down I will pick up Ultra street fighter II. I have the Original street fighter for SNES and Super Street Fighter for SNES.
@waluigifan1 Implosion :Never Lose Hope,Strikers : 1945, and Aerofighters 2 are very good games.
@DanElectrode @speedracer216 Here is a list of Switch games annonced so far and released.I'm sure you can find many games to buy.
The library of games on Switch is alright for now. The retail games I have are ARMS and Mario Kart 8. The games I bought on eshop are Wonder Boy, Blaster Master 0, Puyo Puyo Tetris and quite a few Neo Geo games. I'm sure over time the Switch will get better. I'm already looking forward to Mario Odyssey, Resident Evil Revelations, and the Rabbids game. I plan on getting Sonic Mania on Switch instead of the other consoles. I just need my Netflix and Hulu fix and I'll be good.
I am really please with the games on Switch. There are some great games and even some JRPGs. I am looking forward to upcoming games as well. I also want to get my first FPS on Switch within the next year.
@Spoony_Tech
Approximately 11 months in Europe, little bit less than that, about 9,5 months in Japan and almost precisely a year in United States.
That is if you just count 100 published games.
This made me laugh while filling the poll:

I've only two from the eshop - Fast RMX and Blaster Master. I plan to get Alpha Mission 2 one day. From shops I have Zelda and MK8D. Next purchase most likely Mario. I've also played heaps of the Puyo Puyo Tetris demo!
I have Fast RMX and Snake Pass. I hope to get Overcooked! Soon.
22 games and are only 5 months... now is turn of Mario+Rabbids and Mario Odissey.... then Xenoblade 2, Sonic Mania, Rime, Syberia... my poor wallet.
I have over 31 games for the system and I gotta say, it's an absolute blast.
To think Sonic Mania will kick things in overdrive soon!
@MariOnline the essentials of epicness. I like it.
@waluigifan1 this is an obscure one, but you might want to pick up Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for your collection. I and a few others enjoy it.
At THIS point in the SWITCH's career, yes. Totally. I can't complain. Just think of where it will be in two years. The possibilities are endless. I'm excited as a Nintendo fan, of course. We only need to watch and wait...
@maruse Well, at least Japanese eShop has games that we will never get. There are currently 5 games I'd get if it weren't for language barrier. I have a Japanese account but the games I want to play are visual novels, strategy games and RPGs. They contain a lot of text and I can only read Kana (and I barely know any words so being able to read them is mostly meaningless).
The games you want to play, can certainly be played even without knowing the language but I'm guessing indies either don't have much hope for their games to sell well in Japan or they have other troubles releasing them in there. I'd guess Nintendo has some strict policies when it comes to releasing a game in their digital store. I'm also pretty sure you have to have Japanese as an option when releasing a game in Japan. At least I don't remember seeing a release without English as an option where I live.
It definitely seems like there is greater support for the Switch than there was for the Wii U. I don't have a very big collection of Switch games right now, but there's definitely some good titles out now and more still yet to come.
I need WAY better navigation and VC (NES games in particular).
Also, I would like more brain training-ish games and puzzles.
It's improving that's for sure.
I'm waiting for 9 parchments, and i would love a Final fantasy collection that includes ff7 , and Suikoden 2 would be a treat to go back too, last played that on psone when i was about 8 or 9.
I really don't know what people want or expect from an underpowered system considering developing costs. The kinda games available are about what to expect from a console like this being less than a year old.
I've gotten 17 games so far...I hadn't realized I'd bought so much so quickly. I'm very much enjoying the switch library.
18 so far. 12 of those are NEOGEO games, though that should be 15, but I haven't picked those 3 up yet. Those and Sonic Mania are up next.
I love how my Switch turned into a portable arcade! Moreso than other portable systems/devices because of the game selection, higher quality physical control options, and capping gameplay is as easy as docking the Switch and launching Elgato.
Loving the switch e shop at the moment. I have minecraft. Vaccine. And wonderboy at the monent. Sonic mania will be added to that small collection tomorrow!!
@Spoony_Tech it took about 11 month in the US for the Wii U, so the Switch managed it in under half the time.
There are some good eShop titles to download. Need to download Fast RMX at some point.
Only thing I care about is the Virtual Console.
I am in the minority in the fact that I feel the offerings have been disappointing. I'm hoping for a better future with less indies and cheaper prices. As I played Hello Kitty Kruisers with my daughter on the Wii U contemplating if it made more sense to sell the rare game or continue on with such madness I came to a realization. Now instead of buying a phone/steam port on a disc I can pay the same amount and only get a cheap download that feels even more of a rip off. At least on a cell you can go f2p for Voez and Gear.Club, but on the Switch you get to pay for that privilege. Ok, back to Hello Kitty. I can't think sell it on eBay and make my daughter cry.
The one thing I'll never get is how can eshop versions be as expensive as physical copies !
Yes it's been a big success imho. I've bought 16 eshop only games:-
Retro City Rampage
Implosion
Ironcast
Shantae
Overcooked
Strikers 1945
Shovel Knight
Neo Turf Masters
Graceful Explosion Machine
Snipperclips
Wonderboy Dragons Trap
Fast RMX
Thumper
Blaster Master Zero
Snake Pass
World of Goo
Mr Shifty
Lots of good games and lots of variety. Can't complain at that.
There has been lots of great titles on the eShop thus far IMO. I'm pretty happy with the assortment of current and upcoming titles. However, there is a lot that can be improved in the layout of the actual shop, it's extremely simple as of right now.
I'm expecting a re-vamp once the payed service is set to arrive early next year.
They need to improve the layout though. It was ok when there were only a few games but as it continues to grow it needs more search options, categorisation etc.
I consider myself a hardcore gamer (because i play games all the time) and i'm really happy with the switch library until now. I was never at the point where i didn't know what to play and i only got 5 games (zelda, arms, mk8, splatoon2, shovel knight). That said, i really don't understand people already having 40+ games. I mean i've been playing almost all the time and still have a lot of titles on the eshop that i'm planning on buying but i won't until i get tired of all the previous ones. So can anyone with 40+ titles please explain to me how this is possible. Do you get tired of games really fast?
Dragon Quest X is coming when...?
No seriously. I love what we have so far. Any machine that has Splatoon 2, Disgaea 5, will have Dragonball Xenoverse 2 and Pokémon somewhere down the line could only be a winner where I'm concerned. The other little games are little pleasures that enhance the experience. Still, this time next year - I doubt any of us will have anything at all to complain about. Switch has only been out for approx. 5 months now.
@maruse
But you can get an account for a different territory. It's really easy. I've got 3 accounts and all the games just appear on the home page together. Don't deny yourself games you want because of how they're sorted or pointless My Nintendo 'benefits'
@bolt05
It's fine if there's nothing for you. But I've bought a lot of eshop games I really like, does that mean I'm not a serious gamer? What about the people who've bought more? What if it's you who isn't the serious gamer because you haven't found anything you like?
It's silly to extrapolate your own opinion so far. And trying to categorise people based on your personal taste ("you're not a serious gamer if you don't agree with me") never works.
@electrolite77 I know you can get an account easily... and My Nintendo rewards is the least of my concerns. But like I said before having everything spread among 3 accounts is a big NO from me and that's without the issues that arise when trying to add funds to those accounts.
So no, I'm (probably) not creating other accounts and I'll miss of many games as a result. Bad for me and bad for the developers since they'll get one sale less. What can I say... everybody losses here (specially me...)
Ask me this again, tomorrow..
o/MANIAo/
The eShop has been pretty good so far, Blaster Master Zero and Mighty Gunvolt Burst are by far my favourite games of the year. I didn't enjoy Zelda BotW at all so it's nice to have had some games to play while waiting for Mario Odyssey and Sonic Mania.
So, 100 games in less than 6 months. Probably 150+ by the end of the year.
It's really good to see quantity as well as quality on a Nintendo system for once. I got bored of seeing the 'quality over quantity' BS defence used as an excuse for a small library. Sony and MS get quantity. Quantity sells because when it comes to consumer products, choice sells.
For the first time in my life I made a Google Sheets list of games that seem interesting enough to buy and play. For now I only got BOTW and MK8 physically and Minecraft digitally.
Depending on reviews I'll buy Sonic Mania. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is pre-ordered.
@Menchi187
Which is probably why they haven't done it yet. All the Nintendo zealots will just spend their money on rebuying old Nintendo games again, third-party games won't sell, third-party support dies, zealots complain about third-parties abandoning them.
It is good to see the eshop get so many games. It's not good that they are tied to the console and will be lost if your console bricks. Look forward to buying them all again next time!
Edit: I have since been proved wrong. You can play your games on a different Switch as long as it is your "active" switch. You have to deactivate the original Switch first via the eshop. If this isn't possible (broken/sold), then you will need to contact Nintendo support.
The eshop is doing great, at the moment it's the AAA/physical releases which are a bit lacking at the moment. Sonic Mania will be my 10th game on Switch and I've been looking at the price differences between the UK and US stores, with Puyo Tetris working out over £10 cheaper on the US store.
I just hope some of the 3DS games migrate over to Switch, such as Luigi's Mansion 2 and Ocarina/Majoras mask remakes. Particularly the latter as they are still the best Zelda games for me
@Shellcore they're not tied to the console though, save files are which is a bit stupid but I can guarantee that the games aren't
Normally only buy physical, but i've only bought 2 games, Zelda and Mario Kart. Only got Mirror to 3 star on MarioKart, but still trying to find the last shrines on Zelda. I don't like download at all, so Sonic is the only one i am going to get as no physical release, which quite depressed me really.
No, it's terrible. It has no 3rd party support, no Virtual Console and is riddled with Wii U ports.
@electrolite77 I'm far from a Nintendo Zealot. I came into Switch knowing it wasn't for 3rd party games, sadly. I have other consoles and PC and prefer physical games, the Switch eshop has almost nothing to offer me except VC and very few select exceptions
Change the first question of this poll!! Not 1-10, 10-20, 20-30 etc, but 1-3, 3-6,6-10 etc. I think we would have seen that 90% of users only have about 3-6 games. Considering that most games available are very small titles, this isn't all that great!! Also Nintendo-fans are notoriously biased and thus asking if they are excited by the eShop's offerings and it's future, we get a really skewed idea. It's like asking Apple-fans they like the "abundant" choice in this years Apple products and their "cheap" pricing model. Or asking a 13 year girl old Justin Bieber-fan if she likes his new song.
I think the eshop is ok atm but what I'm really looking forward to is the new Switch VC, with GameCube games. Right Nintendo?
@bolt05
Yes, I know "opinion" and so on. I'll try to explain why your first comment felt so disrespective that I am certain not only @PanurgeJr must have crinched at the comment, and why he took it upon himself to set it straight.
First of all: I personally consider myself a very serious gamer. I love games, I have a PC and most consoles, and I play all sorts of games across all genres, I am a completionist, too. AND I think what the eShop is offering is a very good selection even at this point already.
And I am not alone. In fact, it is unlikely that anyone visiting this website regularly and bothering to set up an account is anything less than a serious gamer, most would certainly consider themselves that. There may be a few "Casuals" here, but I doubt they're the majority. If you now take a look at the poll above you'll see that at least 63% really like the eShop and its selection, even more are optimistic for its future. Only 23% think that it's disappointing or worse.
What does that mean in regard to your and @PanurgeJr 's argument? In regard to your argument it would follow that in fact YOU are not a serious gamer, because assuming that people who care for games enough to visit a gaming website regularly and even opening an account to take part in the discussion must surely be serious about their hobby, and looking at the fact that the vast majority are pleased with the current eShop content, your opinion (about the "seriousness") has already been proven wrong.
Or you do not consider yourself a serious gamer, but I don't think that was supposed to be your point, and that's where @PanurgeJr 's argument comes in and is proven correct 100%:
We all consider ourselves serious gamers here. Some of us may like what they see on the eShop, some of us may not, but that doesn't make us less serious about our hobby, and more or less also take pride in it (and that's an important point here!).
I admit, as someone who considers himself a serious gamer AND liking the eShop selection, I also had a slight problem with your first comment, just because you phrased it like it was a matter of fact, and made it sound like what I liked is garbage. That way you disrespected not only my own opinion (before I even voiced it), but also my pride as a serious gamer.
I don't think I'm alone with this feeling, but I also didn't take too much offence (I basically just shrugged at the comment and ignored it as irrelevant). Following your discussion with @PanurgeJr however I felt that I might make an effort to set things straight for the other 63% of serious gamers here on this site, we're the majority after all.
Sorry for the wall of text. Everybody get on with their lives, please. Happy Gaming!
@Tibob It protects people's jobs in retail.
I've got 6 boxed games and 5 downloaded games. To be honest, I think that so far it is not the best library. I am confident that will change with time.
No eShop downloads whatsoever at the moment.
The games that I'm interested in are either too expensive and/or too large in file size. Any game around the $30 mark or more should have a retail release (and I'm happy to import if there is no other option), otherwise I'll either leave it or wait for a sale.
I have 11 retail games from memory, and I expect to have close to 30 by the end of the year (which is likely more than the number of retail Wii U games that I've had bought throughout its entire lifespan!).
Personally, I'm rather disappointed in the Switch library so far. That along with money are the two main reasons I've yet to get one. I only have 10 Switch games on my Wishlist so far, including 4 Neo Geo games and just 2 retail games. "Sonic Mania" will likely be #11.
At least the interesting releases will be picking up over the next year with the likes of "Super Mario Odyssey," "Xenoblade Chronicles 2," and "Fire Emblem Warriors."
@SwiKy nope you aren't - I didnt buy it
@bolt05 I've been playing video games for over 30 years. I own over 25 systems dating back to the 80s. I'm a very serious gamer. The eshop appeals to me. Any eshop that lets me take Neo geo games on the road at 6 quid a pop appeals to me. What doesn't appeal to me are the prices of some of the other games.
I think you're mistaking serious and casual gamer with your own personal opinion in games. My favourite game of all time is tempest 2000 on the Atari jaguar. Have you played that on that system. If not how are you a serious gamer? See the point I'm trying to make?
Not pleased at all. Most of those 99 games are rubbish, it's even hard to name more than a handful of good games to be honest.
Iwata coined the term 'software sells hardware' once, so far it doesn't apply to the Switch. I think most buyers bought it because they want to use it as a handheld or because they don't have a Wii U and want to play BotW.
games in the switch eshop are so expensive compared to the 3ds and wiiu eshop, it's preventing me from buying much
@carlos82 Thanks for putting me straight. Done a bit of research on the matter and you are indeed correct. Not ideal, but better than I thought.
https://www.polygon.com/2017/3/3/14801794/nintendo-switch-eshop-purchases-digital-access-transfer-saves
@SLIGEACH_EIRE How many Wii U "ports" are the Switch eShop "riddled with" currently? About 10% of the current library?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I agree with you. You forgot to mention the neo geo roms and steam and mobile ports though.
I haven't bought a single digital purchase yet, but it's not for a lack of interest - I could easily go out and buy Bulb Boy, Fast RMX, a few of the Neo Geo games, Wonder Boy, I Am Setsuna and probably more, but with Breath of the Wild and MK8D I just don't have a need for them yet. Will be getting Sonic Mania tomorrow though, and Rocket League will be a day one when that arrives. Overall very happy with the digital store as it stands (in terms of selection and variety), would just like to see more sales and virtual console.
@GrailUK I'm sure, but what's the point ? There's a more efficient way to go. It's time to move on !
12 games in total so far, which is more than I had for the PS4 or Xbox One in the same time I had owned them (and I'm a big PlayStation guy so that says a lot about the slow start that machine had), and 7 of those games (Blaster Master Zero, NBA Playgrounds, Mighty Gunvolt Burst, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero, Fast RMX, Implosion: Never Lose Hope and Retro City Rampage) all are very good games that I'd recommend to anybody. Looking forward to adding Sonic Mania as soon as it's available on Tuesday.
I won't lie and say I think the E-Shop is perfect. I would love to see Nintendo bring over the original Wii's Virtual Console library, which was extremely good, and offer some more sales on par with PSN and XBL would be great. It's early days yet and it's off to a good start, so I'm confident the E-Shop will be fantastic by this same time next year.
@Grawlog
That's definitely the magic of the Switch. I'd say right now it's a 70-30 split with me playing it docked vs. in portable mode. Still prefer to play on tv but I didn't expect to take it on the go as often as I have. The experience really isn't compromised at all though (at least not in the games I own) and I've done a complete turnaround on my original opinion that I didn't want Sony or MS to go down this same path. If both companies took it seriously enough to make it happen, I'd love PS5 and Xbox 'Two' to be hybrid consoles.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
It HAS 3rd party Support for Switch such as FIFA 18, Mario + Rabbid, LEGO games, CARS 3, etc and you still called it No 3rd Party support for Switch?!
What the heck with your logic ?!
@Shellcore I only know because due to long and complicated reasons I'm on my second Switch and noticed that I could download Bomberman again. The save file systems are surprisingly poor though as I found out when my stepson deleted my BOTW save when I'd done 116 shrines 😢
@shani
Eh... I don't think people who enjoy e-shop games are tends to play in handheld Mode only.
Peoples have different interest, AAA games are not a guarantee can satisfy everyone. Even simple, underdog games that you may think are rubbish, they are Gems for some people. The measure of Good or Bad games are not justified by budget or AAA label, but how does the people enjoy the game.
Another example for Food and Drinks. Some people like Complex flavour foods, but some people like Mild flavours. Me, myself also have some Trivial games on NDS, 3DS, Wii, Wii U. And they are Complementary of my Gaming time. They are needed for some occasions, maybe for Short Burst or Refreshing after playing same titles for long time.
I find it incredibly funny that certain people claim the Switch library is filled with ports (Wii U, Neo Geo, Steam, mobile) and then in the same breath complain that there is no Virtual Console. Isn't the VC the biggest set of ports there will ever be? 😁
Anyway, I really like the eShop offerings so far. Got a handful of games already and there are many more on my wishlist. Wish I had the time to actually get around to finishing some. (oh, what a luxury problem 😁)
Fast RMX, Master Blaster and NBA Playgrounds are three eShop ganes I have enjoyed immensely. I really have no interest in basic looking mobile games, but these are nearly retail-quality releases. I also love what Hamster is doing with the NEO-GEO games.
I love Steam, but the fact is I have a catalogue of games I'll never play. With the eShop, I've made a conscious effort to buy nothing on a whim and I've finished every game I've bought. Definitely feels like I'm getting value from my Switch.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
Er. Who do you think made these 99 games?
Hint - third-parties.
As for asking for VC then complaining about ports, again, beyond irony. Quality even by your standards.
One too many comments.
@electrolite77 Mostly indie developers.
Virtual Console is a separate category, hence its name.
I've only purchased three eshop titles. Would really like the option to buy SNES and Master system software - at a sensible price, of course!
@Tibob Like what? (honest question)
@GrailUK Well, what I mean is selling games virtually is economically, ecologically, logistically and (as you said) humanly less more interesting.
There's not one point in favor of physical release, other than the cheer satisfaction of the consumer who wants to "own" a box and cartridge / CD to go along with the actual game (which is ONLY a virtual thing), to prove others and himself that he values and loves the game enough to have invested money and flatspace in it.
(the amount of money and flatspace can increase when it comes to collector's editions, so that the love proven gets supposedly bigger too)
I want music (like with Wii U and 3DS eShop) and games broken down into categories making it easier to navigate please Nintendo.
@Tibob I get your point. I must confess though I am old fashioned and don't really like spending my money on air.
@GrailUK
I'm pretty happy with the lineup this year (BOTW, MK8D, Arms, Splatoon 2, Mario Rabbids, Mario Odyssey, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Fire Emblem Warriors), I'm just concerned about next year. Have they confirmed any releases for 2018 other than Yoshi and Kirby? I highly doubt Metroid or Pokémon will be out before 2019 or even 2020. Let's hope they have a Direct toward the end of the year with some surprise announcements like a core Fire Emblem or Smash or Animal Crossing.
seriously ? out of 99 games so far, less than 10 are from great to fantastic, the rest is simply rubbish
who cares about Neo Geo oldies ?
So many good games on SNES, N64, GC and Nintendo decides to publish Neo Geo games...
Lot of fluff and garbage...Only Nintendo titles are good so far.
@Menchi187
Yeah sorry, I didn't mean you specifically as a zealot. Should have been clearer. You know that circle is real though. Not having VC straight away has given Third-party stuff a bit of room to breathe.
@macaron75
Nintendo aren't publishing the Neo Geo games
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
They're third-parties. And VC is ports.
@Tibob
"There's not one point in favor of physical release"
Resale value and better prices. There's two.
@electrolite77 Np, subtly can be awkward on the internet. They're definitely real though, no doubt. While I'd have liked VC from day one, the most infuriating thing about it is that we have zero info, you could almost said negative info because so far it looks like they could be replacing the service with that whole "online subscription monthly game" thing, which is BAD. They're just so tight lipped about something they basically pioneered and everyone wants.
I currently only own 2 games, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2; but there are so many other great full retail games that I plan on buying (Zelda & ARMS) and so many great Indie games too.
I'm sitting on some Nintendo credit and I've had my eyes on the Neo-Geo games. Despite what @macaron75 says above, the Neo-Geo games are not rubbish. They are classic arcade games that have aged well. I also believe that Hamster is the company putting the Neo-Geo games on the eshop. I believe the reason we're not seeing virtual console games from Nintendo is because they're still working on how that's going to work in a few months when the online subscription goes live.
@electrolite77
Resale value, I can't argue on that one. But better prices is in no way logical : virtual is cheaper to produce, then it should (and often is) cheaper than full price retail.
Anyway you're missing my point : I'm advocating for eshop as being a better system as a whole, for our society. Not saying that it was always in "your" interest.
Looking at the eshops coming soon page it seems that Troll and I will be the 100th game, unless your counting that as 99, since it releases today but doesn't seem to have updated yet.
Not pleased with it at all, 90% of it is shovelware. Still love my Switch and I know great games are coming.
@Menchi187
Yeah it's very odd. Almost as if they're surprised when people ask about it.
@Tibob
Fair point. The reason it isn't cheaper is, and this is why I'm sceptical in some ways about digital, the industry doesn't want it to be. The platform holders are pushing users to digital because it allows them to control prices better (with their digital storefront as the only means of buying software and second-hand games taken out of the equation) and cut people out of the revenue chain i.e. less people to pay, more profit for them. It has the potential to be very bad for consumers.
You forgot one poll question.
Why can't you buy a Nintendo Switch?
A. They are selling for more than $299.
B. They are sold out every where.
C. When I try to buy it, it's already sold out.
@dkxcalibur I have no idea if this is intentional on Nintendo's part, but the fact that there is no VC yet is giving the Neo Geo games a chance to sell, and I'm sure Hamster and the other publishers who have games on the eShop are appreciative. How many people are buying them to satisfy their retro itch who would never have bothered had the VC been available? I suspect that it's a fair number representing a sizable chunk of revenue.
I have exactly 10 eShop games and 10 physical carts. Anything that has a retail release (Isaac and Cave Story) I buy as physical. Got Graceful Explosion Machine last Friday and couldn't put it down until I beat it (still on sale!). Controls perfectly - would pay anything for more levels. The only eShop game I've regretted buying was Retro City Rampage. Every 5 minutes the game interrupts the gameplay with a short cut scene, and it ends up feeling poopy to play, because of that. Best eShop game for me so far is Mighty Gunvolt Burst.
@PanurgeJr I'm sure you're right in stating that the Neo-Geo games are probably selling better because of the fact that there is currently no VC but I think those games would sell even if there was a VC. I think Hamster has great games in their arsenal and they are priced really good @ $7.99. The new Namco game has 10 games in their museum title at about $3 per game, but I would personally rather have 4 Neo-Geo games instead.
@Hughesy Not even close to 90%. I'd say there's like no more than five actual shovelware games on there. Vroom in the Night Sky, Physical Contact: Speed, maybe Levels +, Qbics Paint and Othello are 3 more. Others like Hyperball are just not great games, and not really shovelware. But the majority of the store has greta stuff in it. The big complaint would be the lack of classic ports from Sega, Capcom and Konami.
@PanurgeJr Initially that's what I thought was their plan, regarding the Nindies curating. Putting off the VC, so they could nab and give attention to great Indie devs. BUt when I look at the state of the Voice Chat app, the amount of connection errors I get in Mario Kart and am now getting in Splatoon2, plus the fact they changed their gameplan of "one free classic VC a month" to "online play for select classic games like Mario 3 and Balloon Fight - I'm thinking they merely got Hamster there to fill in the ever widening gap because they don't have their sh** together.
Badly missing Hyper Light Drifter, Darkest Dungeon, and Undertale
I do prefer physical games when I have the chance. But I think the eshop so far is solid. Just waiting on the virtual console. Once we have that, if it has a good selection, and I hope, GBA and Gamecube games, then it has the potential to be OUTSTANDING.
I love the Switch so much, I hope it hits that level of outstanding.
It's ok, but I want VIRTUAL CONSOLE PLEASE!!
@Anti-Matter I absolutely agree with you, only the Wii U had outstanding, unique and exclusive indie games like Affordable Space Adventures etc while the Switch has none so far (unless you count Snipperclips as an indie game).
Although I gotta admit, Death Squared was really fun the other night. But like the overwhelming majority of all Switch games it's just a port, not an original Switch game.
My other point about handheld use had nothing to do with the games available. I just wanted to point out that the Switch's main selling point for most buyers is handheld use. And for people who don't own a Wii U, it might be BotW (and in few cases like myself, Splatoon 2).
So in other words, the long-held tradition of 'software sells hardware' was broken with the Switch. Unless you count ports like BotW (and edge-cases like myself), of course.
We're finally seeing more genre diversity in eshop games these days but I'm still hurting for RPGs. The eshop is way too heavy on just retro, modern retro-feeling, multiplayer-centric, and 2D platformer games. Where's the action stuff? Adventure? RPG? Shooters? Visual Novels? Most of the genres I play most are almost entirely unrepresented
@getyourak very very very agree- and Jeff minter games
@Alikan I have it on Wii U and wasn't impressed.
@waluigifan1 sorry to hear that, but you can't love every game! Hope some more appealing games come to the Switch for ya! Game on!
@Alikan I'm getting Sonic Mania tomorrow, Got Mario & Rabbids Preordered and have Metroid and Mario preordered as well. Good couple of months coming up.
ARMS was alright, but my Switch has been mainly a Neo Geo machine for the past month or so. I don't doubt that there's going to be much more in the future, it's all just the matter of waiting.
@Spoony_Tech
Wii U had a virtual console with great past console games by this point. But it's important to note that it also had a lot more titles that were shovelware right now. Very few games on the Switch are shovelware, since Nintendo's been very prudent and slow to release titles unless they as a company think it's great stuff.
@shani It definitely applies to the Switch and other consoles. People buy Switch because they want to play Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 2, etc. A lot of people don't have a Wii U, so if they want to play Breath of the Wild and/or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the choice is obvious.
Eshop or retail....'FROM SOFTWARE'where are you and your port of Dark Souls???...indie games are welcomed but where are these AAA games promised? Please don't quote the Mario games as I know they will be released (Mario+rabbids and Mario odyssey)...I am referring to more adults games such as the Resident evil series (thank goodness they decided to port them for the Switch) and SKYRIM....I want a lot more of these games!!!!
@getyourak I totally agree!!!
I currently own 10 Switch games (soon to be 11 with Sonic Mania coming out tomorrow). The only two games I've downloaded are Snipperclips and Overcooked and the physical games I own are The Legend of Zelda: BotW, Super Bomberman R, Lego City Undercover, Puyo Puyo Tetris, MK8 Deluxe, Arms, Cave Story+, and Splatoon 2.
The Switch needs more new games that I love as opposed to just play. Severed and Mr. Shifty were great surprises, but they could only do so much given their limited scope. Right now it has a lot of indies announced for 2017 that will probably slip into 2018, Mario, Metroid Prime 4... and that's about it. I'm not worried really because Nintendo still have a couple Directs and The Game Awards to announce more at, but right now the system feels more like a distraction than a full interest. Ports of endless games like The Elder Scrolls: Legends, Hearthstone, and Monster Hunter: World would help with that (and before you ask, I realize there's a bit of a gap in ambition among those three titles, lol).
For everyone else I expect one of those endless games will be Skyrim, but I've already played that game for thousands of hours across many different characters and two different versions so... it can't be as fresh to me. 1000% recommended though if you've never played it extensively. The Dawnguard DLC is one of my favorite stories and expansions ever and Dragonborn is fantastic as well.
My only issue with eshop is the same it's always been and that's pricing. When compared to the competition, prices are usually much higher for the same game on eshop...
Also Nintendo's "sales" are often almost insulting both in breadth and amount of discount.
Other than that they're doing a decent job. Well done.
Needed: Super Smash Bros, NHL, Worms, Civilization, New Super Mario Bros, good pinball game, CS Go, Animal Crossing, Donkey Kong Returns, Super Mario Maker, non-embarrassing BOTW DLC, 70% discount for Cars 3, free 12 Switch, Arms 2: Guns.
Not bad but could be better. It needs more genres like FPS and sports. I it improves soon.
I got:
1. Sonic Mania
2. Mario Kart
3. NBA Playgrounds
4. PuyoPuyo Tetris
5. Astro Duel
6. Bomberman
7. Flip Wars (Haven't really played it yet)
Skipped:
Zelda - Because I know I would get addicted, so saving it for later
Minecraft - Waiting this one out as well
On the fence on:
Splatoon 2

Excited for:
Minecraft Story Mode - played it on mobile, so good! Need a better ending, got sad

Pokken Tournament - Sat it out on Switch, will get it for sure this time
Mario Oddyssey - duh

FIFA
Gotta say:
Brawlout and Hollow look very interesting.
I buy all games digitally, including the retail ones. I love it.
I'm loving the fact that we get a AAA Nintendo title about every month. Nintendo games are on an entirely different level than third-party titles or other system exclusives considering other system exclusives are really just third-party titles. Being made for Nintendo by Nintendo couldn't be better. Now let's keep this going and move in the old titles like Super Mario RPG. Perhaps they could talk about resurrecting Suikoden. That is how you win a console war really quickly.
