The Nintendo Download Update is now live in Europe, and there's a lot going on. On the Switch we have seven downloads going live today and tomorrow, along with some DLC. The 3DS has three retail releases to consider along with download-only options, while the Wii U doesn't completely miss out. In addition there are loads of discounts going on in the 'Summer Sales' and standard price reductions, with some limited to My Nintendo members.
The UK details took a little longer than normal to arrive, but our thanks to the ever-generous Daan Koopman for passing us the Euro equivalent press release that got us started.
Nintendo Switch eShop
Namco Museum (Bandai Namco, €29.99 / £29.99) - A much anticipated release, this features 11 games and even the surprising inclusion of Pac-Man VS., which requires two Switch systems to play. Features in this iteration include online leaderboards and the ability in some games to hold the Switch vertically for an 'arcade cabinet' feel. We'll get cracking on a review soon. Available from 28th July.
Namco Museum (Pac-Man VS. Free Multiplayer-only Ver.) (Bandai Namco, free) - This is a nice surprise, a free download that lets you get into multiplayer sessions of Pac-Man VS. Available from 28th July.
Overcooked: Special Edition (Team17, €19.99 / £17.99) - A title that's been rather popular on PC and other platforms, the Switch gets to join in with various DLC add-ons included and HD Rumble as a feature. It's all about chaotic solo, co-op or versus cooking at high speed, dashing around various kitchen settings to prepare wacky dishes in tough circumstances. We'll fire up the oven to bring you a review soon.
Ultra Hyperball (Springloaded, €9.99 / £8.99) - With retro-style visuals, this pitches itself as a 'party game experience' in multiplayer while also offering a single-player story mode. It looks like rather chaotic fun, and on Switch this game also supports touch screen and motion controls; we'll check it out in a review. Available from 28th July.
Super Sidekicks (HAMSTER, €6.99 / £6.29) - The ACA Neo Geo series continues and we go back into sports this time around. This 1992 classic started a series of soccer titles on the format and is famous for its quick and compelling gameplay, punctuated with high-quality 2D artwork which pops up at key moments during each match.
Qbics Paint (Abylight, €4.99 / £4.49) - As the weeks pass more genres are being ticked off for the Switch eShop, and here is an early example of a creative app. You 'sculpt digitally' with 3D blocks, with various modes and options to help you along (such as going freestyle or constructing set figurines), with easy sharing to social media then possible through the system's standard capture button.
Physical Contact: SPEED (Collavier €4.99 / £4.49) - This looks to be a rather simplistic card game that can be played solo or with another player; it had a notoriously bad trailer that's no longer on the eShop. We'll see what cards we're dealt and check it out.
Nintendo Switch eShop DLC
Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition - Fallout Mash-up (Mojang, €5.99)
Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition - Biome Settlers Skin Pack 2 (Mojang, €1.99)
Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition - Skyrim Mash-up (Mojang, €5.99)
MIGHTY GUNVOLT BURST: DLC Character: Ekoro (Inti Create, free until 10th August, then €1.99)
3DS Retail Downloads
Hey! Pikmin (Nintendo, €39.99 / £34.99) - This 2D spin-off for the much-loved series introduces the cute little critters to a new audience, while using both screens in a portrait setting. It's an easygoing and pleasant time, which was just lacking a little spark and creativity in our view; we gave it a modest recommendation in our Hey! Pikmin review. Available from 28th July.
Miitopia (Nintendo, €39.99 / £34.99) - Another title to accompany the launch of the New Nintendo 2DS XL, this is an RPG-lite entry in the series of games that put Mii characters to work. It's designed to be accessible for gamers of all levels, but we certainly became enamoured with its charm and wit in our Miitopia review. Available from 28th July.
Dr Kawashima's Devilish Brain Training: Can You Stay Focused? (Nintendo, €29.99 / £24.99) - After an 'age' of waiting (oh dear, Ed.), this finally makes it to Europe. This set of exercises and routines is designed to improve your short term memory and focus, an area where we all likely fall short thanks to the rigours of the modern online life. We found it pretty useful in our review of the North American release. Available from 28th July.
3DS eShop
Kid Tripp (Four Horses, €3.99 / £3.59) - A retro-styled 'high octane' platform autorunner that features 20 levels across 4 themed worlds. This 3DS version aims to deliver silky smooth 60fps gameplay with stereoscopic 3D; it looks like fun and we'll give it a go for a review.
New Nintendo 3DS eShop
SWIPE (RCMADIAX, €1.49 / £1.39) - In this score chaser you try to avoid black dots while collecting crystals.

Quiet week. Though there's decent discounts on 3DS.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Nerp, pretty bland this time around.
They hold back Brain Training for years, only to release it alongside two other first-party titles. Genius haha.
Yeah I have absolutely no idea why it took so long.
Overcooked is excellent, perfectly suited for the Switch!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE There are over 100 different games, downloadable content and themes and you call that a quiet week??
@SLIGEACH_EIRE A week with Miitopia and huge amounts of discounts is quiet to you? Alright...
Definitely getting Overcooked. Loved it on PS4 and it feels perfect for playing on the Switch.
Whoa that's a lotta discounts. Get the AA games if you haven't yet. I'm getting Miitopia this time around!
Was Retro City Rampage not meant to be out this week?
I'll be downloading Swipe.
@Mahe I mentioned the 3DS discounts. It's quiet in terms of new games. Well I suppose there are a few but nothing truly outstanding. Namco Museum is a lazy cash grab, Hey! Pikmin didn't turn out well unfortunately and Miitopia is an acquired taste that's good but not great.
Still waiting for a 3DS review of Mighty Gunvolt Burst.
I have a Switch, but I do tend to enjoy 3D retro gaming.
Hmmm may grab a few N3DS VC games and some themes on offer. Thankfully not too much as not much of this month's budget left.
oh look that five years old game
That's a good 3DS sale! I'm grabbing F-Zero and Mario Kart! I've got the other SNES games.
After an 'age' of waiting (oh dear, Ed.)
This reminds me of something the Total magazine used to do.
Shame the summer sale is 3DS only and I have most of what they're offering.
Those discounts aren't very competitive are they?
@Tsurii He is such a tease.
Woah, Sony better watch out; Nintendo is also having a Sumner Sale.
(Facepalm)
I'd buy Splatterhouse if it was available on the VIRTUAL CONSOLE like it was on the 2 damn previous platforms!!!! (including wii mode on wiiu)
Wow. Great discounts. I'll be downloading swipe
Brain Training is finally here!
Overcooked! Finally!
Would have got Namco Museum if it was a physical release but not bothering otherwise.
So, just that free Gunvolt DLC then... As a Switch owner, I look on all those discounts on Capcom games for the 3DS with envy.
Yeah, discounted to RRP... great.
I hope we in NA get the summer sales today or tomorrow.
I might go for Earthbound on 3DS. I've never played it before and the SNES classic is still two months away.
Devilish Brain Training is tempting, but I'll pass. I've got enough games to be getting on with.
@Humphries90 that is why I got into elevate even if it is expensive. They add new games and randomize so it doesn't get old. Poor Europe
Were infinite minigolf? I looking forward to that! Looks like nintendo pushed it back!
What crap week for switch!
I think it's a bit cheeky trying to sell the streetpass stuff at any price considering all the hotspots in the uk (except Game) have been shut down. The most fun element of each game is now gone. It's very very rare that I get any hits when I carry my 3ds around.
I'll pick up Spirit of Justice.
Super Sidekicks is plenty fun for 6,99 e.
Still waiting for KOF '95, Samsho II and Samsho V SP.
It's nice to see that sports fans get some love too, though.
@S4ndm4n
Don't forget to spend some gold coins on MyNintendo to get F-Zero half price. That's pretty much under £2 for it!
Don't forget to download the free character for Mighty Gunvolt Burst ! It is only free for one week.
how much is Namcon museum wtf. Do they want to sleep with my wife as well
I don't get why Abylight releases Qubic Paint but denies us Tiny Thief, released on Wii U in Japan-only, and even published by Nintendo. Looked like a good and fun puzzle platformer.
Qubic Paint however, doesn't look like a real game and seems very limited.
Prices are starting to put me off on the estore 17.99 for over cooked is way too much- you can get it physical for cheaper than that on PS4 where the digital version is 6.50 as Sony actually have worthwhile sales. I was going to pick up retro city rampage next week too till I saw it's almost half price on the vita. I bought it there instead.
30 is also too much for a digital only Namco collection.
@Proust if you have a PS4 it's 6.50 at the moment
@SLIGEACH_EIRE
I'm in America and I don't have any of these 3DS discounts. Is it U.K. Only?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Miitopia is GOTY potential for me.
