Re: Poll: What Do You Think of My Nintendo and Miitomo?

c1pher_c0mplet

Personally, mobile games/apps like Miitomo are junk to me and hold my attention no longer than a few moments. I prefer real games that'll engage and challenge me instead of apps where you dress avatars and play digital carnival games with them (if the app doesn't start begging you for real money at some point). However, there are tons of people who game strictly on phones and tablets and for those people, I can see Miitomo being fun. For myself, I don't think much of Miitomo (but it is charming and Miis look really nice in HD). For everyone else, I think they'll like or love it.

Re: Nintendo's Official UK Store Opens Pre-Orders For Fire Emblem Fates: Limited Edition - Rapidly Sells Out

c1pher_c0mplet

I'm in North America but I hate that for you guys over in Europe. The same exact thing happened here, too. I never wanted the Special Edition but TONS of people did and weren't able to secure a copy for themselves. (Somehow, I oddly prefer purchasing a physical cart and then purchasing the other story tract at the digital discount.) Nintendo's absolutely STUPID: they'll never, never learn... Other gaming companies have special editions of hardware/games quite often and while they may not produce as many of these as regular editions, they still manufacture a decent amount to where the things aren't unicorn and customers can generally find a copy with relative ease. Nintendo always has to be "different" (read: "stupid") about stuff like this...

Re: The Nintendo DSi Shop Shuts Down Next Year

c1pher_c0mplet

Meh, most of the DSiWare games were junk, anyway. Still, it's always a tad sentimental to see an era end. There were some gems in there, though. Dark Void Zero was one of those gems. I remember there was an iOS port of it (it's been removed from the App Store for a while now, if I remember correctly). But I always wondered how anyone could possibly play that game on a touchscreen and why the devs even tried in the first place... That game requires the precision type of gameplay where you place Mario's pinky toe half a pixel over the chasm to get enough of a running start to clear a huge gap. And you're supposed to do that on a touchscreen?? Lol!

Re: Talking Point: My Nintendo and Its Account System Start The Process of Unifying Platforms

c1pher_c0mplet

Until Nintendo allows users to redownload previously purchased software via cross-buy, I don't care what snake oil they smear on their marketing jargon: it's not a REAL account system. And for goodness' sake, stop being Internet nannies and let us friend other users and message them, for crying out loud. They're always trying to "save the children" when a lot of the trash they find themselves censoring comes from... children - go figure. I can maaaaybe see them getting the account system right (big maybe)... But I already know the friending/messaging thing is a pipe dream where they'll either halfway do it (to where it's basically worthless) or they just won't do it at all.

Re: Fooling The World With a 3D Printed NX Controller

c1pher_c0mplet

People are like moths to flames... or flies to dung. I wish media outlets would stop "reporting" junk like this (read: feeding trolls desperately craving attention). We already know it was a fake mockup - do we really need a headline reporting, "Hey guys, the dude that made that fake thing explains exactly how he did it!" Sigh... The Internet can be a really nonsensical place...

Re: Pokémon Shuffle Gets a Major Update and New Features

c1pher_c0mplet

They would do this after I deleted the game from my New 3DS XL... (I backed up the save data in case I ever wanna play again.) No biggie for me. I played 3DS Shuffle for a little over a year and simply got burned out on it. Typically, I don't play free-to-play games and the only reason I played this one is because it was Pokemon. Still, I never purchased a single thing - not one cent - in the game and as a result, I got tired of the ridiculously difficult later stages (I was about 40 away from the 400s). No thanks. But hope everyone else enjoys the new update, though.

Re: Nikkei Report Suggests That Wii U Production Will End in 2016

c1pher_c0mplet

This seems legit and is coming from a reputable source. But I'm not really expecting anything special from the NX, either - this is modern Nintendo we're talking about. And even if they get some things right with the NX, I know they'll get even more wrong. It's been like that with Nintendo for a looooong time now. We'll see; I'd love to be wrong but I'm extremely skeptical and not expecting much from 'em...

Re: Video: See How Hyrule Warriors Legends on the Original 3DS Compares to the Wii U

c1pher_c0mplet

@InternetBowser Actually, your comment helps A LOT - so much so that I'm going to go ahead and preorder it today so I can start on it Friday when it releases. I've been going back 'n forth... I'm not a Zelda super-fan but I do enjoy the series and I thought this looked like a lot of fun but couldn't get over what seemed to be dull gameplay. Glad I actually asked someone what they thought because, again, the gameplay footage totally presents something else. Thanks again, mate!

Re: Video: See How Hyrule Warriors Legends on the Original 3DS Compares to the Wii U

c1pher_c0mplet

@InternetBowser Hmmm... So in your opinion, what level of challenge is Hyrule Warriors Legends overall? I'm not looking for a portable Dark Souls. But all the gameplay footage I've seen suggests the game is a cakewalk and the enemies pose little to no challenge whatsoever. Are there different levels of difficulty if a player wanted to up the challenge factor? Thanks for the reply.

Re: Video: See How Hyrule Warriors Legends on the Original 3DS Compares to the Wii U

c1pher_c0mplet

I simply don't understand the appeal of the Dynasty Warriors brand of gameplay. Obviously it isn't for me but I can't wrap my head around how beating up endless hordes of brain-dead cannon fodder translates into "fun." But when the port was announced for New 3DS, I told myself I'd keep up with previews, gameplay footage, and eventually reviews to see if I might give the genre a chance. And seeing as I'm chiefly a handheld gamer (and less a console one), what was there to lose? While the Wii U version is the obvious winner in terms of visuals, it looks the same kind of boring to me. It simply doesn't appeal to me. Now, if the enemies were attacking you and there was a real threat of being overpowered by the AI, thaaaaaat's a different story. I'll be skipping this and eagerly awaiting Bravely Second in April (which gives me enough time to finish Birthright). Cheers to those who enjoy the game, though: no one can deny it's awesome visuals!

Re: Scribblenauts Studio 5th Cell Is Closing Its Doors

c1pher_c0mplet

Oh no! I always hate to hear of an awesome studio closing down... :sigh: It costs soooo much money to make games now, smaller studios a lot of times can't hang with the larger companies (which is curious seeing as the smaller studios generally produce fresher, more unique games). Personally, I never cared for Scribblenauts and even less for the Drawn To Life series. But I LOVED Lock's Quest on the DS (which, ironically, was likely less of a seller than the aforementioned two series). I know the awesome people at 5th Cell are going to find brand-new homes elsewhere and put their stamp on other great games for us to enjoy! Can't wait and good luck to everyone!

Re: Popular Super Mario Maker Speedrunner and Streamer Has All His Levels Deleted by Nintendo

c1pher_c0mplet

Look: Nintendo should definitely be flogged and beaten for its outdated outlook on the industry, draconian rules, and clear inadequacy in understanding the post-'90s era of gaming. However - and I hate saying this because I feel the guy's pain - but he really should've known better. I'm not at all offended by the inclusion of the term "poo" (which is obviously a spin on his screen name) in the title of his levels. But as an apparently avid Nintendo fan - made very clear by his dedication to Mario Maker - he has to know how backwards and out of touch with reality contemporary Nintendo is. As a result, he did take a chance by using the term in his levels. And as @PLATINUM7 pointed out, Nintendo seems to have conveniently forgotten the character Poo from Earthbound, which clearly suggests they have a "do as I say, not as I do" approach to how they run things. If they felt it was a violation, they could've at least given him notice. Deleting every bit of his content for the word "poo" seems extremely petty and over-the-top. I could see if his levels had profanity in them (like many of the comments here) because that's a clear violation. "Poo"? C'mon.

Re: Feature: Breaking Down the My Nintendo Loyalty Economy

c1pher_c0mplet

@rjejr I hear ya. Perhaps the remaining territories will get rewards for physical purchases. I wouldn't count on it, though, seeing as the Japanese aka Nintendo's "golden children" aren't getting physical-based rewards so I doubt they'd do it for anyone else. Doesn't surprise me at all, though, because that's Nintendo: always taking 10 steps forward and 100 backward.

Re: Pokkén Tournament Punishes Players Who Rage Quit

c1pher_c0mplet

@fortius54 Yep. Until there's an ingenious way to determine if a match ending is due to a real rage-quit or loss of connectivity, it's a small price to pay for the greater good. (It shouldn't have to be that way but that's how life is sometimes.) Slightly off-topic, I have awesome connectivity - I average ~6.7Mbps down but I would get connection drops all too frequently when I was playing Final Fantasy Explorers on New 3DS. (Obviously must've been something on Square Enix's or Nintendo's side.)

Re: Reminder: Create Your Nintendo Account for a My Nintendo and Miitomo Bonus

c1pher_c0mplet

I don't give two hoots about Miitomo. Does the world really need yet another piece of "social" freemium garbage, even with Nintendo's branding on it? Still, thanks for the reminder because I've been putting it off. At least completing this has me current and up-to-date. I do hope they get rid of the NNIDs because the Nintendo Account, even in its infant state, has rendered them nearly (if not) useless. Plus, they don't need all the redundancy which would likely confuse people (which I'm sure it's partially doing now, henceforth the need to do guides like the one NL did). Knowing Nintendo, though, they'll likely keep NNIDs and keep the redundancy as well. (smh...)

Re: Pokémon Creative Director Killed at Age 42

c1pher_c0mplet

I hate to hear things like this... It just brings about an awful, nauseating feeling to my stomach. I'm sending my thoughts, condolences, and prayers to the family. I don't play Poké TCG but I'll purchase a pack tomorrow in his honor. You simply can't take chances with nature and you've got to put safety first. On that note, everyone else be safe out there. And if you ever find yourself second-guessing the weather conditions, stay at home.

Re: Here's Why SNES VC Games Can Only be Played on a New 3DS

c1pher_c0mplet

Meh... I definitely understand the annoyance and frustration of those who have not or aren't going to upgrade to the New 3DS. But we shouldn't be surprised either: Nintendo has always been known to release hardware revisions of current-gen handhelds. Naturally, they're going to throw more support to their shiny new model versus an older, previous one. That's why I just go ahead and upgrade so I don't miss out on features or anything else that will be exclusive to the newer hardware. And I like being current, anyway. (Plus, I had to have the C-stick on the New models and while it's not perfect - just give us a second analog, for crying out loud - this is Nintendo so it's better than nothing.)

Re: Editorial: Nintendo's Virtual Console Revolution Must Wait as We Pay Once More for SNES Games

c1pher_c0mplet

See, this is exactly why I have NO faith in Nintendo to learn from their mistakes. What the heck?? What's the point of Nintendo Account then? Honestly, I don't care about a loyalty program/Club Nintendo replacement: I WANT A UNIFIED ACCOUNT SYSTEM. Is that too much to ask?? (Apparently.) And regarding that headline, "This cycle is surely ending..." — Don't be so sure. In my mind, this doesn't bode well for the NX: how are they going to get the system right if they can't even implement an online account system in accordance with, I dunno, what every other company's online account system does in the 21st century?? The idiocy level in Kyoto knows no bounds...

Re: Metroid Prime: Federation Force is Coming Sooner Than Expected

c1pher_c0mplet

I completely understand and agree with both sides of the argument. I think people are generally disappointed by this after naturally expecting a followup to the excellent DS game Metroid Prime Hunters (which Federation Force clearly is NOT). I also understand that while this is a Metroid Prime game, it isn't meant to be a direct nor spiritual sequel to Hunters: it's a completely different spin-off. (It can't be even remotely related to a Hunters game because Samus isn't even starring as the main character, which she was in Hunters.) This is just going to be one of those alienating games akin to how Wind Waker was. (I don't really know as I was too young; that's just what I read time 'n time again regarding the game.) You're either going to like and appreciate this game for what it is (I don't think many will 'love' it) or you'll hate it: probably won't be any in-betweens.

Re: Tomodachi Life Sales Reach Two Million in Europe

c1pher_c0mplet

@sillygostly Agreed. I got back into it for a couple months last fall again. And afterward, I quickly tired of it for the same reason I put it down in the first place lol. Conceptually, it sounds awesome on paper but it simply doesn't have a lot of staying power in reality. Had Nintendo not been so behind the curve like they are with everything, Tomodachi Life probably could've existed as a downloadable smartphone thingy, I guess. It's really not worth the $39.99 price of admission but its fleeting fun is amusing, if only for a little while. I'm not even sure a sequel would really add much to it to keep you playing months afterward.

Re: 3DS System Version 10.6.0-31 is Now Available

c1pher_c0mplet

@Waninoko It would be nice if these system updates addressed exactly what was being updated. I know most people don't care but I actually like to read what updates contain; I do it when I update apps on my phone, especially (although many app developers don't care to inform users either). It's not necessary but would be slightly informative if nothing else. Oh well. Goody-two-shoes Nintendo probably just stays mum about it as most of the time these "stability" updates are probably better read as "disabling homebrew and unauthorized tampering of our hardware" updates.

Re: Video: Here's What Final Fantasy IX Looks Like On The New Nintendo 3DS

c1pher_c0mplet

@AyeHaley Right on: Final Fantasy Explorers is awesome! Unfortunately, it seems to have been destined for the lukewarm reception it garnered among critics. However, I feel like many professional outlets and critics who claim certain things about the game obviously haven't played more than probably the first three tutorial quests. And it's about as similar to Monster Hunter as Yo-Kai Watch is to Pokemon. I'm currently EL84 and the 7-star Main Quests are really giving me a butt-whipping right now, lol!

Re: Miitomo Preregistration is Now Open in 16 Countries

c1pher_c0mplet

Ah, Nintendo, Nintendo, Nintendo... Just stop. Please. Signing up for a free "social" app? (And with them being involved, it'll be anything but social.) So we need to link an NNID or social network account to a Nintendo Account and then sign-up for a microtransaction-laden app that hooks into the new My Nintendo rewards program which nets users a Platinum Point which has yet to be fully explained what that means exactly because the program hasn't launched and Nintendo hasn't really told us anything concrete about it yet. It all seems half-baked.

Re: Site News: Welcome To The Brand New Nintendo Life!

c1pher_c0mplet

The redesign was totally unexpected but looks great. As with anything new, it'll take a smidge getting used to but it feels sleeker and more modern-looking. The only thing I've never liked about NL is its non-nested comments. Nested comments make reading replies to someone's original comment a lot easier to follow. It's not really worth replying to comments here because you could be replying to someone's post 300 comments ago and if they've posted multiple times, you have no idea specifically which one of that user's comments you're referring to. Hopefully, you guys have something in the pipe coming for the comments system here...

Re: Quality Of Life Device Not Fit To Be Sold As "A Nintendo Product" At The Moment, Says Kimishima

c1pher_c0mplet

"Quality Of Life Device Not Fit To Be Sold As "A Nintendo Product" At The Moment, Says Kimishima"

Good. While none of us really knew what it was, I've always thought it sounded stupid and seemed like another one of Iwata's oddball ideas. Although there hasn't been enough elapsed time yet to really tell, it would seem as if Kimishima-san is more focused on repairing Nintendo's situation and reputation while also trying to guide them to a healthier future. As for Iwata, his childlike charm was undeniable. But I completely disliked him as president and CEO. I truly do hope he continues to rest easy, though.

Re: Talking Point: Considering amiibo Features and the Reality of 'Physical DLC'

c1pher_c0mplet

I couldn't care less: I don't own a Wii U, don't plan to, and don't own any amiibo (such a goofy word). I will say this: my opinion, amiibo is one of Nintendo's dumbest, stupidest ideas — right along with a heap of others. Save your finances for game development, hardware research, and such instead of spending it on making plastic toys and physical DLC locks. Nintendo can keep on with 'em for all I care because as much as people may profess to loathe these type practices, they'll be swiping their plastic at the countertops when the game releases.

Re: Nintendo Remains Bullish Around the 3DS and Its Future Prospects

c1pher_c0mplet

This isn't surprising at all and is expected: Nintendo has always had some overlap when new systems release. There's usually no more than about 2 years of overlap before the previous system finally bows out and developers start concentrating their efforts solely on the latest hardware. (During this interim period, devs are mostly dishing out quick, mediocre ports that usually aren't worth playing, anyway.)

Re: Minecraft Finally Digs Its Way Onto the Wii U eShop on 17th December

c1pher_c0mplet

@RainbowGazelle People stay catching feelings and making assumptions online... I usually don't respond to comments but whatever. First, I never said anyone should be fired. Second, I never said I expected a Nintendo exclusive to be announced. That's exactly why I said, and I quote myself, "I wasn't expecting anything." Third, I never said Minecraft on Wii U isn't big news just because I'm not interested (which I'm not). I clearly stated, "For the handful of people who haven't played this game [...], this may be exciting." Lastly, I caught wind of this "news" elsewhere via a random headline online while studying. I didn't check this guy's LinkedIn profile and do a full background check on him to know that he's involved with the Nintendo indies/eShop. My only point was I, and many others, consider this to be an exciting announcement for those who haven't experienced Minecraft yet but definitely not a BIG one as he put it. If you disagree, cool. The announcement's over, Minecraft is coming to Wii U, it is what it is.

Re: Minecraft Finally Digs Its Way Onto the Wii U eShop on 17th December

c1pher_c0mplet

@DESS-M-8 No freaking kidding. I've been wondering what the heck this "big announcement" was all day yesterday. I thought maybe the news was coming from Japan; thus, a time difference. But the guy who trolled, I mean teased everyone is from NoA. Then I realized, "Wait: is the announcement this Wii U port of Minecraft?" Indeed, it seems so. For the handful of people who haven't played this game (which is available on nearly every platform currently known), this may be exciting but it's far from "big." I wasn't expecting anything but applying the phrase "big announcement" to an expensive port of a 4-year old game on a soon-to-be-retired system is really stretching it. The idiocy of 21st century Nintendo has no boundaries.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo is Right to Move On From the Wii Family Name With NX

c1pher_c0mplet

I think this article is jumping the gun. Just because Kimishima is suggesting the NX will be different from the Wii/Wii U and Nintendo's moving away from it doesn't necessarily mean it won't have Wii in the name or branding. Look at what happened with the Wii U: Nintendo originally positioned it as a hardcore system — the exact opposite of what the Wii was — and what happened when they finally dropped the name at E3? A new, supposedly hardcore system that needed any name — any name in the cosmos — other than 'Wii' and that's EXACTLY what they named it. Stupid. And besides, we don't know what this thing's official name will be yet. I'm holding off all reservations regarding this thing until it's announced. But honestly, I'm extremely skeptical of 21st-century Nintendo and don't expect much of anything from them console-wise at all.

Re: See All That's Coming in the Tri Force Heroes 2.0 Update

c1pher_c0mplet

For Triforce Heroes players who mainly play with random people online, how has the experience generally been (in terms of playing with people who you don't know)? I know you can blacklist people but just asking for general thoughts. While I enjoy Zelda handheld games, I'm not a Zelda fan per se. However, Triforce Heroes intrigues me — and because I'm not necessarily a Zelda nut, I don't have the same scathing viewpoint toward this game that those who adore the main series titles may. If I decided to get Triforce Heroes, online would be the only way I could play. I have one 3DS-owning friend that would play, too, but I've read that locally, it's you + two others or no cigar. Otherwise, you have to go online.

Re: Circle Entertainment Claims That Nintendo of America Only Allows Up to Four Themes Per 3DS Game

c1pher_c0mplet

Nintendo's stupidity strikes again. Let me clarify, this isn't an issue really but as @sillygostly put it, limiting choice provides variety to NoA users?? So let me get this straight: it's okay for NoA to have close to 10 (if not more) Pokemon themes, among others, but third-party games are limited to four. Additionally, it's okay for one region to have 4+ themes for a third-party game - just not North America (or somewhere else, for that matter). ?????? All I can do is just shake my head... There's absolutely no reason why there isn't parity between all regions for something as non-critical as home themes.

Re: Review: Stella Glow (3DS)

c1pher_c0mplet

@Spoony_Tech Would you recommend Persona Q to someone who's never played a Persona game before? It looks interesting but I know jack squat about the series. I'm sure there are things only series diehards will get, I'm sure. I'm just wondering if those ignorant to the series like myself would be completely lost as to not even waste time considering it.

Re: Lucas & Next Wave Of Animal Crossing amiibo Due Out In North America On 22nd January, 2016

c1pher_c0mplet

I hate, I Hate, I HATE Nintendo shoving amiibo with almost every release now. (No offense to the general readership here because I know a lot of you guys love them and I'm happy for you guys when you nab a rare or hard to find one!) I wouldn't mind so much if these things didn't lock certain gameplay elements, regardless if they're helpful but optional or purely cosmetic - doesn't matter. amiibo are essentially physical paywalls. (At least freemium games cost you $0.00 before considering IAPs. Here, you're paying traditional gaming prices - generally $39.99 - for the game and paying however much amiibo are for additional content.) Then there's Nintendo's intent on constantly pumping out more and more amiibo - figures and now AR cards - without adequately replenishing current stock (or lack thereof). My girlfriend was able to buy a few packs of AC: HHD cards from a local Best Buy when the game first released and the entire city (and surrounding areas) has been dry ever since. All the Game Stops here stopped getting HHD cards after the game launched; Best Buy the same; and other entertainment/specialty stores here have actually cancelled their orders of cards (as was told to me last night by an employee) because Nintendo isn't sending these places any more (likely due to shortages, I'm sure). I've abhorred the concept of amiibo ever since they were announced but here's my thing: personally, I'd like Nintendo to concentrate on gaming - physical, digital, mobile, whatever. But since it seems these amiibo aren't going anywhere, Nintendo: at least keep these things IN STOCK if you're going to make 'em. Le sigh...

Re: Video: The Pokémon Company Shows Off the Current Zoroark Distribution

c1pher_c0mplet

I'm not complaining: it's a free Poké distribution so I'll take it. And I'm confirming for other North Americans it only works with ORAS (which stinks but oh well). Can't wait to nab Hoopa in a few weeks! (I wonder if Volcanion and/or Zygarde will make their way into ORAS or if they'll be postponed for Poké Z or if they'll ever be officially distributed at all.)

Re: Nintendo Expecting Mobile Business To Eclipse Wii And DS Era Profits In Three Years

c1pher_c0mplet

...makes me wonder if this has something to potentially do with the NX. Those are some pretty wild claims, especially considering Nintendo's brain seems to have disappeared for awhile now. However, if the NX is some type of detachable mobile device while you're out (and a console when you place it on the home hub or something), I could maybe see considerable profits in that regard: an on-the-go device with buttons capable of playing handheld-quality games (instead of app store junk). Or I can see money buckets overflowing in another, more deplorable scenario: junk transactions (read: free to download "games" and in-app purchases).

Re: DeNA Will Announce Its First Nintendo Mobile Game Soon According To DeNA West CEO Shintaro Asako

c1pher_c0mplet

My overall feeling toward this "big" announcement of Nintendo's first mobile game ~ooOoOoOooo~ is... So what? Mobile games are really a dime-a-dozen at this point. Slapping Mario on something with or without IAPs isn't going to make humongous waves and even if it's a new 'mobile' franchise, I still don't see this as, "BAM! Nintendo's back AND now in the mobile 'verse!" They've been playing catch-up the past few years and as far as mobile games and apps are concerned, they're behind the curve. Again. (Smh...) If others are excited for it, I'm excited for you guys. But personally, I couldn't care less.

Re: Spooky Halloween Events Are Now Live In Pokémon Shuffle

c1pher_c0mplet

Still addicted to it? Not at all (never was). But it makes a somewhat decent time-waster. Or as much time as you can waste playing 5 turns every 2 and a half hours for those 5 hearts to replenish again. I'm more so keeping up with it because I figure at least I can catch all the event Pokés I've missed in the regular games in Shuffle (Pokémon Black/White was my first Poké game). In the regular games I'm missing Arceus, Shaymin, Jirachi, Victini, and Darkrai. But I have all those in Shuffle sans Darkrai (either he hasn't been released yet or he may be an expert stage I haven't unlocked yet).
