Re: Nintendo of America Announces StreetPass Weekend and Nintendo Zone Shake-Up

c1pher_c0mplet

Pretty excited about this! I get ~5 StreetPasses on campus a day and get ~3-5 per Nintendo Zone in my immediate area (of which there are about 12). One of the McDonald's wouldn't work at first but I get Relay hits all the time now from that one. While StreetPass Relays aren't an exact science, I've ALWAYS found that if you're getting Internet connectivity full-blast at a Nintendo Zone location but can't get the green light denoting StreetPass hits, simply shutdown/restart your 3DS/XL, wait for about 1.5 minutes, and you'll get the green. Always works for me.

Re: Poll: As the PS4 Arrives, What Do You Think of the 'New Gen' Environment for Wii U?

c1pher_c0mplet

@Jono97 They never should've named the thing the 'Wii U.' To prove my point, my barber's friend saw a Wii U commercial on TV the other night and asked, "That's a Wii, right? What's the difference?" It seems non-gamer types can't immediately discern the difference while I think gamer types hear anything with 'Wii' in the title and cringe and run for something else. But it is what it is.

Re: Poll: Is Nintendo's Wii U Advertising and Marketing Doing Enough?

c1pher_c0mplet

Nintendo markets? LOL I've always been a diehard Nintendo handheld fan and that will never change. However, they've completely lost me console-wise. It's been really strange watching them go from basically being the hardcore company to this super family-/children-oriented company that seems to make really backwards decisions all the time... It's almost like they paint themselves in a corner on purpose, I dunno. Still got love for ya, Ninty. But... what the heck is going on w/you? o_O

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Safe and Family-Friendly Focus is Integral to Its Fortunes

c1pher_c0mplet

@MaverickHunterX "Besides, I use my 3DS to play games, not to text or send poorly drawn doodles to my friends. I have several other devices that do those things already, and do it better ."

You're missing the point, though. If you're talking about messaging your personal friends then yes, you simply use your phone, Skype, or whatever to stay in touch with them. But a "friend" in terms of a console's Friends List doesn't necessarily equate with a personal friend. More concisely, you may have people registered as "friends" to your Friends List that aren't personal contacts. So in that sense, Swapnote (as slow and backwards as it gets imo) was the only way of messaging the non-personal "friends" in your 3DS's Friends List. I know I and many others are in that same boat. If everyone I had in my Friends List were personal contacts then yeah, I'd just text them or call 'em when I needed something in AC:NL or wanted to battle in X/Y.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Safe and Family-Friendly Focus is Integral to Its Fortunes

c1pher_c0mplet

@TheLilK98 The only Nintendo device I LOVE forever are their handhelds: I ride with Nintendo handhelds all the way into the sunset lol. I've never been keen on their consoles and always had a PS. Not getting a PS4 on launch (don't get launch anything except the new Nexus =P) but I really, really considered a Wii U. And when I made a list of potential games I would get, it basically came down to Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD, MH3 Ultimate and RE: Revelations but I already own the latter two on 3DS (haven't played yet) and I'm totally not buying a console to play 2 games (currently).

Re: Iwata Braves Press Conference to Explain Nintendo's Earnings

c1pher_c0mplet

@Falco As far as abandoning the system, I doubt Nintendo would do that. I don't even own a Wii U (3DS XL only) and I don't see that happening. The Wii U will be fine in about 1.5 to 2 years from now but I do believe the post-N64 era Nintendo paints themselves into these ridiculous corners they have to pull teeth to get out of though...

Re: Pokémon Developers: Paid DLC Could "Ruin The Worldview" of The Franchise

c1pher_c0mplet

Thank you, GameFreak and The Pokemon Company. I briefly tried mobile gaming about 3 yrs ago (iPod touch) and hurriedly ran back to my DSi XL (system at the time) for many reasons; "paying to win" being the biggest one. While I'm not against something like free or even reasonably-priced post-game downloads, I am against paying for basic gameplay elements or elements integral to the general enjoyment of a particular game (e.g. paying $1.99 for 10 Ultraballs). While "playing to win" has a place in gaming (I guess), the "traditional" setup where you pony up $xx.yy and get the full game should always have a place.

Re: Nintendo Reveals Big Plans for Indiecade

c1pher_c0mplet

@LinkTheHyrulian Same here. Not so sure about it "coming soon" at a recent indie event, though. It was mentioned a few wks ago Miiverse would be available for 3DS before the end of 2013. Personally, I'll believe it when I see it. Club Nintendo has been down for almost 2 days now; I doubt it has anything to do with that though. Likely just routine maintenance or extending server farms or something.

Re: Feature: Five Reasons Why The 2DS Will Be The Biggest Selling Handheld This Christmas

c1pher_c0mplet

Although the 3DS XL is my go-to, I'd totally get a 2DS IF Nintendo allowed you to have your information (like your Mii(s), Friends List, StreetPass settings, etc.) on more than one system at a time. Although I still have my original 3DS and did one of my five system transfers to my current XL, my original is worthless in that it contains none of my above info (and considering I play solely on my XL as a result).

Re: Feature: Five Reasons Why The 2DS Will Be The Biggest Selling Handheld This Christmas

c1pher_c0mplet

At first, I was a little confused by the 2DS (esp. considering the announcement came out of nowhere) but I quickly came to like it. It looks very comfortable to hold for long durations and the build quality seems more durable (something Nintendo Life confirmed in their recent review of the system). Although nothing compares to the glorious 3DS XL imo, the 2DS is awesome in its own right.

Re: Mighty No. 9 Confirmed for 3DS

c1pher_c0mplet

Proud to have backed this project. Never backed a KickStarter project before (and probably never will again unless it's someone I respect like Inafune-san) but this is the best payback I can give Capcom for screwing me over when they nixed MML3 (not the only but one of the main reasons I got a 3DS when they first dropped). Respect to Keiji and his team: can't wait!

Re: Improved StreetPass and Nintendo Zones Coming to North America Later This Month

c1pher_c0mplet

@Andrewroxsox This is exactly what happened to me about a month ago. I was trying to hit the access point from the parking lot to no avail; going inside, no luck there either. I was trying to get the Afternoon Tea Set for AC:NL so I just went home and set it up that way. But I'd love to be able to get these 6 hits at the relay points... if the local businesses around here can get them to work.

Re: Hardware Review: Nintendo 2DS

c1pher_c0mplet

I actually think the 2DS looks pretty darn cool and I had slightly considered one (mainly bc since the back-end of the XL is heavier than the original, it can be a little uncomfortable to play at times) but two things keep me from diving in headfirst:
1) Since you're only able to perform 5 system transfers EVER (really, Nintendo??) and I've already used one going from my original 3DS to the XL, I'm not using any of my remaining 4 transfers for anything cosmetic like a limited edition X/Y XL (although I wanted one) or this 2DS. I'll save my transfers for when something really comes up.
2) No 3D and a single mono speaker? Dang, Nintendo... @_@ No sell, for me. (And Nintendo simply needs to do TWO analog sticks next handheld: that humongous space on the 3DS systems looks... weird. No more Circle Pad Pro peripherals, smh...)

Re: Review: Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl (3DS)

c1pher_c0mplet

@Rei7 You should TOTALLY try Etrian Odyssey Untold. And like @One-Winged-Pit said, there's an eShop demo that'll allow you to transfer your save data to the full retail/digital release should you decide to take the plunge, so there's really nothing to lose. If you do end up liking it, I wouldn't wait too long; the Etrian games (and Atlus games in general) tend to go out of print really fast. In fact, I recently had to order Etrian Odyssey IV online because it's not in any retail stores near me due to it already being out of print and it just came out not too long ago! @.@

Re: Dan Adelman - Nintendo is "Very Much Aware" of Demand for a Unified Account System

c1pher_c0mplet

@SanderEvers Exactly. While that may not always be the case, generally it is. I've only contacted them once for a rather advanced issue (router DMZ) but Nintendo support is fantastic! They're nice and seem genuinely interested in helping you (or they have some mean acting skills). I eventually figured out my issue but they were going to fix my old DSi XL free of charge which was really cool of them.

Re: Dan Adelman - Nintendo is "Very Much Aware" of Demand for a Unified Account System

c1pher_c0mplet

Just out of curiosity, if Nintendo implemented an account system and if, say, that system were to get hacked, I wonder what the climate of these comments would be then... It would be convenient to log into a Nintendo account of some sort, I suppose. (I don't really care but at the same time, I'm not all that invested into their digital world like others and on that front, I understand you guys' frustrations.)

Re: Miiverse Update Allows Activity Feed Posts Outside of Communities

c1pher_c0mplet

Gaahhh... Just give us 3DS Miiverse already!!! If Nintendo does it right, Miiverse for 3DS will be B-I-G!!

Off-topic => I can't stand immature users on Swapnote. I had to delete this grown man off my Friends List today because of his totally inappropriate and offensive notes. Last week, he sent out a note that likely would've given any Jewish person a heart attack. And then today, he sent out another one where he drew a picture of the burning Twin Towers and wrote "Happy Tower Day!" ??? What a loser... some people...

Re: Without iOS Support Nintendo "Doesn’t Reach Today’s Kids" Says Apple Advocate John Gruber

c1pher_c0mplet

@DamienMcFerran

"...this is certainly an exchange worth keeping an eye on..."

For what?

"...[this debate] gives an interesting insight in the way the tech world — and those who write about it — operates."

While I respect your right to an opinion Mr. McFerran, I'm really reaching to see how any of this is particularly insightful or minutely interesting as you say. And it doesn't matter if John Goober was fanboying for Nintendo either: I still wouldn't find that interesting or insightful. His is simply another doomsday opinion (that seems to be the anti-Nintendo rage these days), which ultimately means squat because there's nothing objective about an opinion. I don't care what some Apple loyalist thinks about a competitor; if I did, I'd go read an Apple blog. I'd much rather hear about real, verifiable news that actually means something, such as the Slushie Machine for Animal Crossing: New Leaf that's being distributed via Nintendo Zone/Best Buy locations in North America now through the 21st of September. (And yes, I downloaded mine, thank you very much.)

Re: Nintendo Confirms Miiverse for 3DS "Soon", Smartphone Apps for Network Also Coming

c1pher_c0mplet

Excited for Miiverse on 3DS. Hopefully, this app facilitates quicker responses when playing games online like Animal Crossing: New Leaf, for instance. Personally, I find Swapnote to be an annoyingly slow and laborious effort when it comes to messaging friends back 'n forth. If Miiverse on 3DS allows functionality even remotely close to sending IMs I'll be satisfied. I hate Swapnote (well, for messaging).

Re: Reaction: The Pokémon Bank and the Inevitability of Online Charges

c1pher_c0mplet

After watching the Nintendo Direct after class earlier, I knew people were going to bring out the ol' "I want it free" gripe. The Pokémon Bank is an awesome idea and makes total sense as the physical cart will only support so much data on-cart. This provides a viable means to keep up w/your Poké boxes (and may even prove more useful than the in-game boxes). If the North American price is truly in the ballpark of $5, that's nothing.

And as far as Dead Trigger providing cloud saves for free, such a feature should be expected of a digitally-exclusive game that's meant to be played on a smartphone (tablet, potentially) whereas a physical cart stores the data on-board. I think Nintendo has the correct idea to treat the Pokémon cloud storage as an EXTRA to physical cart data since that's exactly what it is. Nintendo isn't implementing in X/Y what we too often find in mobile freemium games: paying for content that's necessary to play the game and/or paying to win. The Pokémon Bank is an EXTRA. If folks don't wanna pay, then don't. But I don't think "the principle of the matter" makes for a viable argument.

Re: Keiji Inafune Thanks Mighty No. 9 Backers in New Video

c1pher_c0mplet

When I get paid, I'm going to DEFINITELY back Inafune-san. This is the best big middle finger to Capcom and it comes straight from Inafune himself and all his supporters. I've had a searing hatred for Capcom ever since they decided to charge gamers for the MML3 demo and then swiftly cancelled the game anyway. Companies would kill to have a mascot-franchise to fall back on; Capcom has one of the biggest and yet all they do with Mega Man is a whole lot of NOTHING.

Re: New 3DS eShop App Brings Voice and Text Chat to Japan

c1pher_c0mplet

With everything the 3DS has gotten right (North America), I'm still EXTREMELY dissatisfied with the system's lack of a proper chat application. Swapnote doesn't count in my book. Tried using it but it's a pain imo. Unable to mass delete messages (especially spammers); receiving messages that are days old; etc. I deleted it and now rely on the Friends List to see what's going on w/my friends. Swapnote is a novelty at best.

Re: Rumour: Pikachu 3DS XL Already In US Stores, March 24th Release Mooted

c1pher_c0mplet

@FOURSIDE_BOY Pretty much. I understand everyone's different but really: who gives? If you enjoy something and other people think you're "weird," they go can screw themselves because honestly if you looked at a hobby or hobbies of theirs, it could be considered "weird" as well. I'm in college and take my 3DS XL w/me to campus and play between classes b/c it's how I relax and it's fun. I could care less what so-called "mature" people (which is really not the case as far as most college-aged people goes) think.

Re: Feature: Series Reboots That Have Divided Gamers

c1pher_c0mplet

Although I've only played a couple of the listed games, I do plan to play them all because they look and seem FANTASTIC. Nostalgia messes with people's minds a lot. I enjoy a great game as its own entity and don't compare it to anything else, even if it's a sequel to a long-lasting series.

Re: Miyamoto Discusses Retirement In Recent Interview

c1pher_c0mplet

@Tsuchiya You have the dopest pics hehe. Miyamoto-san definitely deserves some R&R but I doubt he'll free himself entirely from being involved w/game development in some way, shape, form, or fashion. Then again, I could be wrong and he'll enjoy doing something different w/his life.

Re: Legendary Pokémon Meloetta Distribution Date Announced

c1pher_c0mplet

I'm in college and not at all embarrassed to go inside GameStop to download a rare, one-of-a-kind event Poké! However, I am going to post-up in the parking lot when Meloetta becomes available to see if I can d/l her within range of GameStop router (or whatever they use for events). Duh, never thought of that! If it doesn't work or the Wi-Fi signal isn't strong enough, I'll just go inside. =D The local GameStop here (like most of them I'm sure) is the size of a matchbox and generally crowded with usually one person on register while the other sits in the back on an eternal break lol

Re: Street Fighter X Mega Man Is "A Bit Of A Mea Culpa"

c1pher_c0mplet

Well, I won't be downloading or playing the game. I still think the creator has done a fine job and for that, I'm happy for them. I've washed my hands of Capcom a long time ago though as I didn't care for their antics at that time. The whole deal with MML3 (which was a very big reason for wanting a 3DS initially) was the final straw for me. The last Capcom game I bought was RE4 (PS2) about 5 years ago and that was used. I've waited and waited for the Blue Bomber's return to no avail. No more Battle Networks, Star Forces, X's, ZX's... the Blue Bomber is what I've wanted. Oh well, at least the classics are still there.

Re: Capcom Has A Whole Year Of Mega Man Celebrations Planned

c1pher_c0mplet

I usually don't use bad language online and I apologize in advance if I offend anyone but I simply have to say... F*** Capcom.

"We'll be using [Street Fighter X Mega Man] as one of many means of gauging where we're going [with the Mega Man franchise]..."

Really?? A fan-made PC game is your barometer for feeling out where to take Mega Man? Here we go with this again... Same exact crap they were talking about with Mega Man Legends 3 for 3DS before it got cancelled b/c "the fans weren't vocal enough." Other companies would kill to have a tried and true franchise to fall back on. Capcom does - one could even say Mega Man is akin to their Mario. But for the past few years to a decade or so, Capcom hasn't done squat with the series.

Re: Capcom Announce Street Fighter X Mega Man

c1pher_c0mplet

Smh... So Capcom has fans making games for them now, lol? Shots to Seow Zong Hui for his hard work on making on awesome game. However, I still say "Capcom, move around." And I'm still smh @ Mega Man Xover, hehe... c'mon now. While it's in the wind, I still say no MML3 == No Love.

Re: Hardware Review: Wii U

c1pher_c0mplet

@Nibelilt As an avid DS/3DS player, I've experienced no issues whatsoever with the handhelds' resistive screens. And I'm glad they chose this tech for the GamePad as the Wii U would've been more expensive with it. A gaming system doesn't need to be bleeding edge to still be entertaining - a notion Nintendo understands fairly well. ^.^

Re: Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward Bug Infects Save Data

c1pher_c0mplet

I decided to pick up Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask last week instead of this (I forgot it had even come out). While I'll still be getting it before Paper Mario: Sticker Star, I also hope a downloadable patch will eventually be in the works. But it sounds as if the Nintendo Life team isn't all that hopeful of such from Aksys... =0/
