Earlier this year Nintendo formed an alliance with fellow Japanese firm DeNA, with plans to release a game / app on mobile platforms before the end of 2015.
In July, DeNA West CEO Shintaro Asako further explained how five different games – each of a distinct genre – were in the pipeline and were scheduled to arrive before the end of March 2017.
The executive has recently provided a quick update on the development cycle at GamesBeat 2015, reiterating what was said earlier in August, that the company should soon be able to announce the first game.
Mr Asako also reconfirmed the partnership with Nintendo was a long-term initiative:
I can’t say too much about the Nintendo deal. But it’s a really exciting initiative. It’s a really long-term initiative.
Are you eager to hear what the first DeNA game announcement is? Let us know in the comments.

It will be called either:
Super Mehrio Bros: Legend of the Wii Should Have Supported the U More This Year
or
The Legend of Meh: Wii Forgot U Our Bad
The "soon" updates will hopefully end soon too.
I hope we get a Nintendo Direct by the end of the month. Talk about the mobile games, the new loyalty program, the Twilight Princess HD rumors, and the other Wii games being released in the eShop. What's next for Amiibos now that Smash is done. And some sort of Zelda U/NX because, if TP HD gets announced, they need to let us know something about it. A name at least.
Ya'know where it'd be great to announce it? A Nintendo Direct!
Seriously. Gimme a Nintendo Direct. Please. These past few weeks have been awfully dull for me in terms of gaming news. Bring back the charming part I like about Nintendo.
Or else I'll leave! /sarcasm
It will be a singlr gold rush Mario stage free to play where you have to pay for more gold coin block helmets with micro transactions or want 24 hours for another go!
The 1st game is Mario Grocery Kart - a shopping simulation game where you must buy the right groceries before a pregnant Peach gets another hunger crave
Woot. An announcement to announce the excitement of the upcoming announcement. How exciting. I am riveted by the announcement of the upcoming announcement. Can't wait.
Ready to see what this Pikmin game will be like.
Didn't they already announce that they were going to announce their first game soon?
@Megumi Pikmin 4? That's what I've been saying.
Would be nice for Nintendo to announce the game and not DeNA. OK, would be nice for Nintendo to announce anything except amino exclusives after they even already been announced by the retailers.
Hey, heres a thought, maybe Nintendo gets all its Nintendo news from Nintendo Life, they know what to announce after they've read it here. Well assuming Reggie can read, he sure as can't play SSB.
Likely Mario themed.
Ooh another announcement that an announcement is coming soon. How exciting, I love announcement announcements.
Just get on with it.
@rjejr
Pikmin 4 would be a great choice. If they've coded it in Unity it could release on Android, iOS and Wii U.
@electrolite77 If this was Mighty No 9, the reminder of the announcement of the announcement would've been delayed
So anytime between now and the 31st December then! What's the bets the next announcement will be to announce they are delaying their announcement till after NX which they'll announce at a later date?
I don't think a mobile game fits on a Nintendo Direct. Only the mos hardcore of Nintendo fans even know they exist. These mobile games are aimed at the 90 million people they list from the Wii/DS generation.
Reminds me of 'If you notice this notice you'll notice this notice isn't worth noticing"
Nintendo has just greenlit a new IP based on the classic war film starring Martin Sheen and Marlon Brando. Gonna call it Apocalypse Soon.
My overall feeling toward this "big" announcement of Nintendo's first mobile game ~ooOoOoOooo~ is... So what? Mobile games are really a dime-a-dozen at this point. Slapping Mario on something with or without IAPs isn't going to make humongous waves and even if it's a new 'mobile' franchise, I still don't see this as, "BAM! Nintendo's back AND now in the mobile 'verse!" They've been playing catch-up the past few years and as far as mobile games and apps are concerned, they're behind the curve. Again. (Smh...) If others are excited for it, I'm excited for you guys. But personally, I couldn't care less.
The first mobile game is called "Nintendo Direct". It will have an animated Iwata convincing smart phone users to buy Wii U and 3DS.
"Please understand, mobile games are sh*t, don't buy. Wii U and 3DS good, buy."
Yes we know. This is like the 3rd time you guys have reported that this is going to happen "soon".
Please stop with these until this announcent actually happens, thanks.
I would be absolutely shocked if it was Zelda twighlight Princess. But hell it could be. Heck coming out of the gate it would be a smart move. Tablet gamers would flip out and actually get the best 3D action RPG available on iOS and Android
@Nintendian hajha my feeling exactly
I'm tired of Nintendo, we've been in a drought for too long, I've been playing whispers PS4 and Xbox One games recently!!!! OOOOOO
@TheAceofMystery Alright, good for you then. Anyways, I don't really care what it is, since I don't have a mobile device. No iPhone, no iPod, no Android, NOTHING...probably the only person in my class who can say that.
@electrolite77 it can also be put on the new 3DS is possible.
If they were to follow thier recent pattern, it will be extremely underwhelming and disappointing. Like a pokemon alarm clock or something.
Zero interest in mobile, so yeah, I'd really like a full-fledged Nintendo Direct with actual console news to go along with this announcement.
Nintendo Direct please!
Right before the holiday season kicks off! Updates on future releases. It's overdue. Nintendo has their new guy in place and we haven't seen a direct since E3 back in June. There's a lot of info they should be announcing such as the Smash final vote.
They've been talking about it releasing 'soon' for months now. Can we just announce it already? Its mid-October, they are running out of time to keep the promise of "before the end of the year."
It's starting to look like the DeNA infrastructure won't be ready until next year. I guess we'll have to wait and see if that's a bad thing... As for mobile titles... Nope. Just... Nope. Not gonna buy them, ever. They couldn't pay me to play those abominations.
@Captain_Gonru "If nothing else, just announce that you won't be announcing anything going forward."
You do realize the catch 22 is that they would have to announce not announcing anything, I think they fear it may break the space time continuum.
Speaking of space time I just wrote this same thing in a reply to you abut 2 minutes ago. Maybe we should just stick to discussing comics and keep our blood pressure in check. OK, my blood pressure, you seem good as long as I don't bring up AC.
I'm curious to see what DENA has in store for us, although I have to admit that I'm not really into mobile games...
@c1pher_c0mplet Completely missing the point. There are hundreds of millions of people who only play games on mobile phones and tablets. They couldn't give a toss that superior games are on consoles and PCs. Now imagine if a company makes a good mobile game (and there are plenty, despite what people like to deny) that gets these people hooked, IAPs or not, and onto consoles. Even if it only for the next entry in the series. That's all mobiles games are for Nintendo, a way of advertising their 'proper' titles and it will actually get them ahead of the game (regards to Sony and Microsoft, neither of which do sod all with mobile games bar the occasional piece of dross).If you're not excited, or don't care, about Nintendo about to be getting a massive new audience, success, etc then what on earth are you doing on a Nintendo-themed site? This is a huge, huge opportunity for Nintendo. Only reason you shouldn't be excited or care is because we know Ninty like to screw everything up.
@Yorumi Well if they announce that they are going to announce it half way between now and when it comes out, they could keep announcing the announcement forever. Ask Zeno.
When are we getting it?
"Soon enough."
But that's not soon enough!
Animal Crossing: Grocery Shopping
Didn't they say "soon" like 3 weeks ago?
Calling it: "Jumpy Block," "Klash of Koopas," or "Mushroom Crush: Fire Flower Saga"
@IceClimbers
Ha very true. I've had so many emails from Amazon about my preorder for that I feel like we've really bonded.
I'm also going to go out on a limb and guess that this will not be Pokémon-related, since Pokémon has already taken to the app store multiple times.
@earthboundlink
I'll wet myself laughing if it turns out to be 'Angry Birds Mario'.
@andrew20
Oh really? Then yeah, that as well please. Makes even more sense business-wise then.
Multi format titles is how I expect Nintendo to carry on supporting 3DS and Wii U after NX comes out.
@rjejr @megumi Pikmin 4 won't be a mobile game as main series games won't be on mobile.
@amiiboacid Says who, Nintendo? I'm pretty sure Nintnedo also said they would never do free-to-start or do mobile games. Don't listen to a word they say about anything. Better yet, listen to it, than plan on the opposite happening.
But if it were a Pikmin game, it wouldn't be like 1, 2 or 3, it would be a match 3 game or sim, something simple. Maybe they haven't talked about Pikmin 4 or the DeNA game b/c they want to announce them together?
@rjejr They would of already of planned their first few mobile games when they said they wouldn't make main series titles.
@amiiboacid Well 1 thing is for sure, they've said almost nothing about it so likely everyone will be surprised. Will anybody be happy is the real question? Though the less happy people on here probably the better the game will do with the general public who actually spend their time playing app games. Maybe Pikmin isn't a good choice, nobody knows what that is. Probably a Princess Peach Hair Salon app.
@rjejr So the more Nintendo fans hate the game, the more successful it will be?
@rastamadeus Or, if Nintendo mobile games do well, people will just buy the mobile games and not feel the need to buy their console games, because why bother when the mobile games are good enough? Then, Nintendo would respond to the positive feedback to their mobile titles by... Putting more resources into their mobile infrastructure, at the behest of DeNA and the stockholders, thereby putting less resources into their consoles. On the other hand, if the mobile titles are not so good, then people really won't be attracted to console offerings.
The whole idea of attracting people to consoles from mobile (which is going to be the idea behind NX) is a slippery slope of misdirection. You're not going to redirect people towards console offerings simply by getting your name out into a larger market such as mobile, you're just going to increase your presence (or fail) strictly within that market. Even if it succeeds, people would just equate Nintendo with good mobile games, eventually leading Nintendo away from consoles.
You can't have it both ways- the two audiences are too different.
@amiiboacid He has a point, the most successful mobile games are exactly the type of schlock Nintendo gamers have traditionally treated as being the bane of true portable console experiences. Crap like that Pokemon Shuffle is exactly the types of games the DeNA era will usher in.
Calling it now. First game is a Mario Runner akin to Sonic Dash or Lara Croft's game.
@electrolite77 Actually, it's going to be "Crush the Koopa Castle".
@PlywoodStick Many people liked Pokemon Shuffle.
@amiiboacid That's fine, I only called it crap because I don't like it. That doesn't mean other people can't like it; however, it represents a massive shift from Nintendo's traditional roots and core base. These newer types of games cater to a completely different market than their traditional base, and I just don't see any bridge between mobile style titles and console style titles. I wonder to myself whether the DeNA plans will work out quite as expected. I suspect Nintendo may shift over to favor the mobile market.
This is like what... the 4th time they've said this now in the last couple of months?
@ikki5,
But now its really coming. Honestly! Lol!
@amiiboacid Sorry this is a week late, ben busy...
"So the more Nintendo fans hate the game, the more successful it will be?"
Exactly. Well that and there are what, 300 billion smart devices and 50 million 3DS? Happy Home Designer, if given away free and charged for whatever in game, would make more than anything on 3DS.
The difficulty in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze would turn off 97% of the people on mobile.
