Re: Chrono Trigger Director Would Love To Create A New "High End" Version Of The Game

c1pher_c0mplet

As someone who's never played Chrono Trigger (although I'd like to at some point), I wouldn't mind, say, an HD remake or one done completely from the ground up a la FFVII. I know some will say such is heretical but I think that's probably nostalgia talking; a complete remake doesn't equal "evil" and is totally possible to be done correctly. As for a Chrono Trigger film, I'll keep it simple:

An anime feature or animated feature? Yes!
A live-action film? ABSOLUTELY NOT.

Re: Nintendo Steps Up Its 3DS Marketing for Young Gamers

c1pher_c0mplet

@Dakt I didn't get that impression but let's hope your concern is abated as we approach March 2017. With Kimishima holding the (temporary) reins, I really hope the stupid Iwata era of shoehorning gimmicks into everything is over, which would include ignoring gamers again like they did with the Wii for a mostly kid audience.

@CreamyDream Any cynicism to be taken from your statement would be unfounded. You're correct: these - and other demographic-based adverts - should've been released throughout the entirety of the 3DS family's lifespan. It's never "too late" to do anything but at this juncture (especially with this NX thing on the horizon), what's the point?

Re: Feature: Miitomo's Initial Success Doesn't Mask Lessons to be Learned for Future Nintendo Apps

c1pher_c0mplet

To piggyback off the headline's title, this is Nintendo now: always needing to "learn lessons" instead of simply doing things right the first time. They're just lost... (And I don't mean doomsday scenarios, "they're going out of business" lost - just lost.) They could've kept the junk that is Miitomo and saved that money for the AC/FE apps, which I still don't care about (I don't game on phones or tablets) but those have CHA-CHING written all over them. In fact, had they done that we'd probably be playing one of those two apps right now instead of reading articles about how badly Miitomo's performing. Nintendo got caught with their pants down again: they thought their Nintendo branding and charm would mask the banality of Miitomo and, of course, it didn't work. Charming, pretty dung is still dung.

Re: SurveyMonkey Intelligence Breaks Down the Declining Usage of Miitomo

c1pher_c0mplet

As cute as it may be, Miitomo is simply digital junk with Nintendo branding. Nothing more. Miitomo almost feels like something Nintendo threw into the mobile space just so they could say, "Look, we're now in the mobile arena and because we're Nintendo, Miitomo will be really popular!" Not. It could've been but as it stands, answering random questions eventually gets boring, the randomness of the dumb Miitomo Drop "game" is insanity, clothing items are ridiculously expensive with basically no way to earn coins since they want you to pay for them with real money... Strip away Nintendo's name from it and it's just as soulless and money-grubbing as 95% of the crap you find in any app store.

Re: Third Party Developers Share Their Hopes For Nintendo NX

c1pher_c0mplet

The developer Mel Kirk stated he'd like to see VR supported in the NX. I can almost guarantee him that will NOT happen. As gimmicky as Nintendo's been under Iwata, I highly doubt they'd do that. Besides, VR tech is too expensive and Nintendo is - depending how you look at it - either too cheap or unconcerned with powerful hardware, which is definitely needed to power VR in the first place.

Re: Study Suggests Rising Smartphone Ownership Among Kids Is Hitting Nintendo Hard

c1pher_c0mplet

Kimishima has an enormous elephant on his back in terms of steering Nintendo back onto the path... And here's the crazy part: Nintendo can totally get back to greatness. But they seem intent on ignoring the signs and making the worst possible decisions, all while resting on a comfy bed of '90s nostalgia. I don't think they're doomed per se but they are in trouble. While it's ultimately a(nother) piece of mobile junkware, Miitomo and the forthcoming AC and FE games should've been available on Android and iOS back in 2012 - not 2016. Whatever this NX is, it needs to be a whole lot of awesome. It can happen: it's just this stuff being in post-'90s Nintendo's hands worries me.

Re: Nintendo is Getting Into the Movie Business

c1pher_c0mplet

@sillygostly Agreed. If by "movies" they mean a Japanese anime-styled feature; non-Hollywood; or non-live action, I'd be willing to see what comes of it. But something tells me they're likely eyeballing the "big bucks" associated with Hollywood and producing a(nother) piece of Pixar/CGI crap. No wonder non-Japanese people love anime: there's something magical about traditional animation - CGI is just soulless to me (and that's because I grew up with it). They might even try a live-action film, which I'm not so sure of but could possibly be done in the right hands (but the chances of getting someone to do it justice...). Hollywood movies are so generally bad, there's rarely - and I mean rarely - anything that captures my interest. (I don't watch TV: I'm more of a series and anime person.)

Re: Rumour: Sources Go to Battle Again Over Nintendo NX Power

c1pher_c0mplet

I set my standards low for Nintendo since they haven't gotten much right in the past decade or so. I don't care if the NX hardware is comparable to the PS4/Xbox One or not: it just needs to be more powerful than what they usually put in their systems. And seeing as how most people are rocking expensive smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, nice laptops, netbooks, preordered some VR headset, etc., I don't wanna hear any of that "family-friendly pricing" bologna. The NX definitely doesn't need to be PS3 launch price but Nintendo needs to get with the times: no more stone age hardware and archaic tech. My only other wish is simply NO MORE GIMMICKS. If the 'hybrid' rumor is true, fine, have that be your "gimmick" - but no more.

Re: Citizens Of Earth Pulled From 3DS eShop Following Exploit Discovery

c1pher_c0mplet

@khululy It'll be back (sooner than later, I'd imagine). Nintendo pulled - pun intended - the same exact thing with Ironfall Invasion for a similar exploit. Then, it popped back onto the eShop again when it was patched. I tried the Citizens of Earth demo and didn't care for it at all. While it takes the same approach of using modern settings (opposed to fantasy ones) as the Mother series does, I found it to be rather dull and honestly kind of boring. Give the demo a try, though: you might like it; I just didn't.

Re: Monster Hunter Generations Launches on 15th July With a Limited Edition New 3DS XL

c1pher_c0mplet

@RainbowGazelle You sound just like me. I'm entrenched in Fire Emblem Fates right now and that game is brimming with stuff to do: two unique paths, the Revelations path, constant barrage of DLC every week, and other things like trying to get 100% support for all your units... I think I'm just going to start with Monster Hunter Generations when it drops and if I ever want to go back and experience my copies of MH3U and MH4U, well, I have 'em, lol!

@audiobrainiac I was really feeling that red one (and I don't even get wide-eyed with limited edition releases like that). But seeing as it's a European exclusive... Well, I guess that's that. Thanks, Nintendo. ¬_¬

Re: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Spirit of Justice to Arrive on the 3DS eShop in September

c1pher_c0mplet

@Lil_B I see, thanks. I haven't kept up with Crapcom's ebbs and flows simply because I loathe the company and its practices. But I do remember a few years ago they put all their eggs into the mobile basket, lost a grip of money, and now it seems like they're giving it a good ol' second try (like idiots. But I guess I can't fault 'em for trying. Again.) Anyhow, I like many others would've preferred it physical but... yeah. We'll live, though.

Re: Ace Attorney 6 May Be Called "Spirit of Justice" in the West

c1pher_c0mplet

Is this the Phoenix Wright game where the setting takes place in, well, not ancient times but isn't set in a modern-day setting like the series typically is? (I think this is the one but it's been so long since I've heard, read, or seen anything regarding it.) In any event, it'd likely to be too much to ask Crapcom to give us a physical release so I'm not holding my breath.

Re: Disney Infinity Has Been Cancelled

c1pher_c0mplet

While this is news is rather sudden, I'm not shocked or surprised. In fact, I've always thought the "toys to life" thing was the video game equivalent of beanie babies: it'll be the hot, new thing for awhile and then it'll dissipate and you won't be able to hand the toys out for free to anyone simply because they'll have no value. What has surprised me, though, is I didn't think it would've lasted as long as it did. As for amiibo, those started as Iwata's knee-jerk reaction to passing on Activision. (Whoops! Haha!) But they'll be around for awhile if not forever simply due to the nostalgic factor they have and as cheap collectibles.

Re: Random: EA Executive is as Non-Committal to NX as Possible, PR Assistant Approves

c1pher_c0mplet

Can you blame EA, though? As much as Nintendo has screwed up and continued doing so, I don't blame EA or any other studio/publisher for their ambivalence toward Nintendo and being cautious about throwing full support behind anything Nintendo-branded. All the fanboys and fangirls panning this guy aren't thinking logically and if I were him, I would've stated the same thing. None of us hate Nintendo - especially not me. But acting as if Nintendo hasn't trashed their own name in the past decade and some is just lying to yourself and why should third-parties have faith in Nintendo when they've consistently proven they're out of touch and don't learn from past mistakes? Hopefully, new management under Kimishima (who seems like he means business) the NX will be a success and start rebuilding Nintendo's name. Regardless of what the NX ends up being, I don't think it'll fail per se. Now, if its an excellent change for Nintendo or ends up being more of the same crap from them is a different topic but I don't think it will be a total failure. That being said, I believe EA will probably hop on at some point down the road.

Re: Some Unlucky Fire Emblem Fates Customer Have Their Special Edition Pre-Orders Cancelled

c1pher_c0mplet

I'm in North America and never bothered ordering the special edition. However, I do remember when people's preorders started getting cancelled. Unfortunately, the situation seems to be the exact same scenario in Europe and I knew it would because Nintendo never changes. Regardless of the claimed snafu with GAME's computer system, I honestly believe Nintendo creates a unicorn supply of special edition anything on purpose - I really do. There's simply too much of this same situation littered all throughout Nintendo's history for it to not be true. There's absolutely no reason why Fire Emblem - which is now one of Nintendo's top franchises outside Japan - should have such an extremely limited supply of these for eager fans. Truly a mess.

Re: Rumour: ROM Chip Maker Macronix Drops Hint Nintendo Could Be Abandoning Optical Storage For NX

c1pher_c0mplet

Disregarding the fact we still have zero intel on what the NX could or might be, I'd totally be cool with small carts for a console/handheld/hybrid thingy. With SD cards ranging in capacity all the way up to 2TB commercially - and considering how cheap it is to mass produce them now - this would be not only a semi-throwback but also a cost-effective and actually decent idea. Still not sure what to think about this, though. However, the possibility of such is quite interesting, indeed.

Re: Reminder: Distribution is Underway for Mythical Pokémon Darkrai

c1pher_c0mplet

@ShadowLuigi2 Absolutely not (although I'm like you and wish they would). They should just get with the times and distribute via the Internet like any other normal company would. But Nintendo is passionately in LOVE with super-exclusivity and hard-to-find obtainables so they're highly unlikely to stop anytime soon if ever. They should stop if for no other reason than they're a waste of paper with everyone supposedly going green - it's not like the codes double as AR cards for a Poke game or anything.

Speaking of which, if you're in North America just be prepared to visit 2 different GameStop locations to get a code for each of your XY/ORAS carts if you have both games. The local ones here groaned they're only giving 1 code/customer since people abused the distribution codes regarding Mew. (And a real big DUHHHH for why they should just do the distributions online in the first place. Idiotic Nintendo, I tell ya...)

Re: Launching NX Next Year Is The "Proper" Thing To Do, Says Nintendo Boss Tatsumi Kimishima

c1pher_c0mplet

The Internet's a funny place... It's amusing to see all these comments from people agreeing with Kimishima after a lot of those same people were screaming at him a few days ago regarding the delay. He hasn't been in charge long enough for me to think anything of him, good or bad. But I will say this: so far, he's been solid, up front, transparent, and spits it like it is. I can appreciate that where everything else that comes out of Nintendo's mouth is fluffed PR statements and Fils-Aime-ish marketing geekspeak.

Re: Fire Emblem Mobile Game Will Offer "Accessible" Yet "Engaging" Gameplay

c1pher_c0mplet

As long as this "game" doesn't affect the main series that comes out on the main hardware. "More accessible," though? Fire Emblem's a strategy game: it's supposed to be challenging to some degree. This is a potentially a slippery slope because while crappy mobile versions of AC and FE could somehow boost the main series games, it could also create a bevy of really bad scenarios for Nintendo fans. Example: If these "games" make Nintendo a decent amount of money, it could entice development to skew more toward mobile iterations rather than future entries on traditional hardware. And Nintendo's bleeped its fans over plenty of times before just to make a quick buck. Le sigh...

Re: Shake-Up to Nintendo Board Brings New Job Titles for Reggie Fils-Aime and Satoru Shibata

c1pher_c0mplet

@Bolt_Strike Exactly: you're right on the money with this. Claiming Nintendo is merely a Japanese company adhering to Japanese business ethics to explain their lack of a global worldview is bogus. Sony is also a Japanese company and takes a global approach with their business. Should Nintendo keep down this ridiculous path, they will continue the inevitable slide into irrelevance.

Beyond that, getting anything concrete out of the business-speak is nearly impossible for us on the outside. Still, the overall feel I got after reading it all was not necessarily a positive one. There's obviously more to it than we currently know, sure. But it's difficult to not see certain elements of the article as not boding particularly well, especially for NOA and NOE.

Re: Nintendo NX Will Be Launched Globally in March 2017

c1pher_c0mplet

Maybe this could all be a big media ruse and Nintendo suddenly busts out with surprise NX news at E3 in a couple months. I mean, this is Nintendo and the aforementioned scenario I just painted is highly unlikely given their track record for stupidity and ridiculousness. But hey, it could happen. I guess. Maybe. Perhaps.

Re: Pokémon Shuffle Adds Plenty of New Stages in Latest Update

c1pher_c0mplet

I played Shuffle on 3DS for about a year and couldn't delete it fast enough after being stuck in the main stages for probably a couple months. Like most FTP junk, it's fun in the beginning and tries to hook you during this honeymoon phase. Then, it quickly devolves into obviously wanting you to fork over $$$ (or £££ for the UK readers) to progress. Once you get to stages 200+, almost every level requires items to progress (while some require multiple items if you even want a fighting chance of winning which still may not happen). I can't say it's rigged because it is FTP - that's how they work. But I absolutely HATE AND ABHOR that model of gaming.

Re: Rumour: NX Software Lineup Will "Blow Away" Wii U, Controller Streaming Gimmick "Was Made Up"

c1pher_c0mplet

As suggested by this rumor, if Nintendo's output drastically increases I'm less worried about the games' quality tanking than I am about the potential increase of Mario titles which I could definitely do without. Mario's okay but Nintendo relies way too much on that brand. They do great things when they break free from nostalgia - look at Splatoon (and I don't even have a Wii U).

Re: Here's How Much Space Monster Hunter Generations Will Wolf Up On Your 3DS

c1pher_c0mplet

@dkxcalibur I hear ya about getting left behind. I bought MH4U sometime last fall, never got to it (because I was clearing my backlog), and just when I was about to pick it up this year I started Fire Emblem Fates. And then Bravely Second just came out (which I think I'll play next after I complete Birthright; take a break before going into FE Conquest). I don't think I'll ever get to MH4U so I'll probably just get on MHGenerations when it releases. I don't care, I'll drop whatever I'm playing (if I'm playing some other game when it releases) just to make sure I get on it, lol!

Re: Rumour: More Sources Highlight NX Controller 'Gimmick' and a Major Game Project

c1pher_c0mplet

As long as Nintendo keeps giving me some sort of dedicated handheld system (which is what I play almost exclusively) and accompanying games, I'm good. They can flop at this, fail at that, and run themselves into oblivion with everything else for all I care. I haven't been interested in a Nintendo console since, well, never really. Still interested to see if Nintendo's going to knock our socks off with the NX or shoot themselves in the foot again.

Re: Guide: All The Nintendo NX Release Date Rumours, Details, Games And More

c1pher_c0mplet

@TheRealThanos Well, seeing as no one truly knows what the NX is or will be (yet), I was using the term "hybrid" loosely to mean these separate pieces working together in some type of singular unison. Whatever the case, I'll continue to reserve any concrete opinions of the thing until Nintendo gives us some official details. Either way, I'm extremely skeptical of what Nintendo will deliver based on prior history.

Re: Poll: The Utterly Charming Animal Crossing Series Is 15 Today, But Which Is Your Favourite?

c1pher_c0mplet

I dabbled in Wild World a bit but didn't "get it". It wasn't until Nintendo's awesome marketing campaign they did with New Leaf that I dove right in so ACNL was my first Animal Crossing game. I can't wait to see what the inevitable sequel will be! (Especially after the "bleh" that was Happy Home Designer... Major disappointment. That should've been DLC or something - not a full game.)

Re: The Super Famicom New 3DS XL Edition Has Amazing Box Art

c1pher_c0mplet

"Take my money"? If you're in a territory other than Japan, Nintendo doesn't want your money — they're just fine landlocking all the cool stuff within Japan, as usual. GameStop did get that exclusive Retro NES 3DS XL but it wasn't one of the New 3DS models, though. I don't expect Nintendo to ever change in that regard (or in other ways either).

Re: Mighty No. 9's Release Date Remains A Mighty Mystery

c1pher_c0mplet

While I wouldn't mind picking this up upon release (if it's good), I've stopped caring about it long ago. This is almost becoming a standard thing with crowd-funded projects. It's not about patience with me: I say take your time and get it right. But the lengthy silences (which look more like ignores to stave off the inevitable bad news) associated with these collaborative-funded efforts usually results in an unfinished product and people out of money.
