Re: Wii Owners: Microsoft Wants You To Buy The Xbox 360 This Holiday Season

Thank you, @theblackdragon for chiming in. I do not care for the "conspiracy theorist" attitude toward news reporting. News is news, whether one person considers it to be relevant or not is subjective. If the piece offends you or you believe it isn't relevant, there's no need to read the report. And the Nintendo Life authors always write great pieces and do so in a neutral fashion and non-alienating way for those who aren't necessarily Nintendo diehards. I started coming here because I got tired of the major news sources that cover general videogame news bashing Nintendo games/products all the time. Thanks, NL!

For what? Is Microsoft paying you? Besides, you said it yourself: Nintendo Life IS a Nintendo site. Naturally, you're going to have Nintendo fans on a Nintendo site and some or a lot of them are going to be diehards (or whatever you want to call them). That's a fact, whether you like it or not. And to be honest, if you love Nintendo products/games and nothing else there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. (I know, these days it's uncool to be a "fanboy," and I hate that word.) Personally, I don't see anything wrong with being a hardcore fan of anything. It is what it is. And by the overarching majority of these comments, attempting to "dampen the roar" of the people here has been futile at best. (Not being a jerk or mean.)

Haha, what a comedic way to start off the day! XD Look here, Matt: although I likely won't be getting a Wii U this holiday — a broke student like myself didn't have the ends to preorder one — I can tell you an unfortunate bit of reality: the Xbox 3shi, I mean, Xbox 360 won't even cross my mind (just like it never has before). Am I fanboying? Nope. I have a Wii and PS3 (in no particular order). However, I've never been as excited for a console as I am with the Wii U! If I don't get lucky this year, I will definitely be playing on mine early next year, hopefully in January!

Re: Animal Crossing: New Leaf Will Not Have "Unwholesome" Paid DLC

c1pher_c0mplet

@Neram Completely agree. Long live, Nintendo! Like anything else, if DLC was done "properly" in games, I wouldn't mind it. But all too often it ruins games, imo. Part of the fun in any kind of game — smartphone, console, handheld — is playing it through, discovering things, unlocking others, and finding out how to defeat baddies from friends, etc. Being able to unlock a Level 100 Warrior for $9.99USD to whisk your way through a game seems counterintuitive and cheapens the overall experience and thrill of playing a game in the first place to me.

Re: n-Space Not Happy With Heroes Of Ruin Sales Figures

c1pher_c0mplet

I understand the cofounder's viewpoint from a business perspective. But in all honesty, Heroes of Ruin was a generally underwhelming game. Now, I like the game: it's fun, a great way to relax, and is all-around entertaining. However, the game could've been developed a little better than it was (sorry to sound so harsh, nSpace). I'm no graphics whore but the visuals aren't indicative of the 3DS system's power, not even in the least bit. And like everyone says, a harder difficulty or Game+ mode would've been great. It's a slightly above average game that, unfortunately, will likely be forgotten in time as more (and better conceived) dungeon crawlers infect the 3DS library.

Re: Bayonetta 2 Dev: Wii U Exclusivity Isn't a Snub, It's About Reaching a Wider Audience

c1pher_c0mplet

@Sean_Aaron I was also thinking that Bayonetta 2 would eventually (and possibly inevitably) be released on the Xbox and PlayStation. But you're right about saying that unless Nintendo signed some type of "timed" exclusivity with Bayonetta 2, it's likely it won't be on another system. Kind of like a lot of sequels/spinoff games that are Nintendo-only although the main series is on other consoles (e.g. Resident Evil).

Re: Round Up: Wii U Launch Window Games

c1pher_c0mplet

I should say: that's one heckuva software launch window lineup ya got there, Nintendo! And that's coming from someone who hasn't owned a Nintendo console since...well, never. (I went with the Genesis!) I've always stuck with Nintendo and their handhelds, though. Wii U smells like a success to me...

Re: Talking Point: The Importance of the Wii U Press Event

c1pher_c0mplet

@adrenochrome Ha! That was a good one, mate. I actually lol'd for real, hehe. Apple is going a little nuts with these "patent" infringements lately... Can't wait to see what will be said about the Wii U Thursday! I enjoyed the Wii U Event and am really excited for a Nintendo console! (And I've been a PlayStation person forever.) Don't give a crap about a purported iPhone 5 reveal although I'm a smidgen interested in what may be said about a new iPod touch...perhaps. (The darn thing needs more memory, that's for sure.)

Re: Sorry Lost Planet Fans, EX Troopers Isn't Coming To The West

c1pher_c0mplet

...and this is exactly why I hate Capcom: they always do this. The handful of Capcom games I own (which isn't many, 3 tops), I made sure I copped them secondhand to make certain they don't see a penny from the purchase. And they really left a sour taste in my mouth from the way they handled the entire Mega Man Legends 3 game from requiring us customers to essentially pay for their R&D via the paid demo and then cancelling the game outright... I was really looking forward to this game. As a single person I can't do anything to make Capcom's bottom-line suffer but I can purposefully not purchase anything from them.

Re: Talking Point: Miiverse and Social Networking

c1pher_c0mplet

"Nintendo has already stated that it has no plans for Twitter and Facebook to connect to Miiverse or have Wii U apps..."

Good. I'm not against social networking (to each his own) but I'm sick of seeing the blue F and T everywhere. It's even gotten to the point where many sites require you to have a Facebook, Twitter, or whatever in order to interact with the community, which is ridiculous. However, I do LOVE what Nintendo's doing with Miiverse and their implementation of social networking. They don't need Facebook, Twitter, or anything because I believe their version of it (for gaming purposes obviously) will be better anyway.

Re: Talking Point: Challenges for the Future of Nintendo Gaming

c1pher_c0mplet

Nintendo will be fine. Sometimes they make eyebrow-raising decisions and take awhile to do certain things but I think they've really pulled out the stops thus far with the 3DS. While there are things that can be improved in 3DS, Nintendo has crafted the system with care in every possible way. Personalization (via your Mii), a single Friend Code, GameNotes (for jotting down important details), a multitasking OS (which I love), SwapNote for chatting, in-game voice chat (with games that support it), and the eShop is simply PHENOMENAL. There are so many great titles from indie games to classic games to play that even with the 3DS' slim library in North America/Europe (compared to Japan), you'll never run out of things to play, plus the promotions like "Mario Madness" before New Super Mario Bros. 2 was released really show that Nintendo is (finally) serious about the online space. While a lot of people may not use them as much (or at all), the cameras are great for taking funny AR pics with your Mii(s) and since I carry my 3DS around for StreetPass tags, the music player is great. (It's not iPod but it doesn't need to be.) Sure, improvements can be made but I for one think Nintendo's doing an excellent job thus far and I simply can't wait to see what the Wii U has in store.

Re: Satoru Iwata: Demand for Rich Experiences on Handhelds "Not Going to Go Away"

c1pher_c0mplet

@OlympicCho Civilization Revolution is better enjoyed on a console or PC proper (that goes for the NDS port as well); Avernum, which is the Spiderweb game I guess you're talking about, looks boring; the Chaos Rings series was middling fun for me (never beaten) but I'd easily take something like Phantasy Star Portable 1&2 (PSP) or the Etrian Odyssey series (beat all) over Chaos anyday; Galaxy on Fire 1&2 is visually awesome but I thought it was boring and quickly grew tired of; Infinity Blade 1&2 are breathtaking visually but I've only played them for minutes; and Horn? I'm not giving Zynga any of my money.

All in all, I personally prefer handheld games over smartphone games. I only make the distinction between handheld/smartphone game so one knows what I'm talking about but a game is a game is a game to me. It really seems as if this whole smartphone/handheld gaming debacle is just a matter of preference: neither one is "better" but for me, I prefer handheld gaming more. Smartphone games just aren't as appealing to me and aren't nearly as fun. Plus, people always gloat about smartphone gaming but never talk about how much of a battery suck that is, especially playing something hardware-taxing like a three-dimensional game featuring highly-detailed visuals with complex lighting and effects. I've played a few of those on my iPod touch and the back nearly burned my hands LOL. And for all the "deep, rich experiences" on platforms like iOS, the smartphone games I have more fun with are the simpler ones like Temple Run, Saving Yello, etc.

Re: Reaction: Nintendo's Steady Start in Retail Downloads

c1pher_c0mplet

Hmmm... I like digital downloads and am really glad that Nintendo is giving users an option to boxed games. All the 3DS games I've bought thus far and plan to buy in the (forseeable) future will be boxed but at the same time, I'm also not adverse to going digital either. In fact, I like digital. Seeing as there's not too many benefits (especially considering the prices for both being the same) to going digital with 3DS games, I'll gladly stick with the boxes for now. (Plus, how would you play with the AR cards for Dream Drop Distance if KH3D was digital?)

Re: Michael Pachter Doubts 3DS XL's Powers of Revival

c1pher_c0mplet

@LollipopChoSaw The iPad isn't worthless - it's just not a traditional gaming system. Nintendo gamers (and gamers in general) tend to be people who need a substantial level of gaming content to be satisfied and have their appetites satiated. While there are definitely some really cool iOS games that you can play for an extended period of time, they generally don't have the level of depth traditional games do (yet, perhaps). It may come across as fanboyism but it's really just a matter of tablets are great and offer some obvious advantages but they still have a long ways to go before completely replacing traditional gaming hardware, which I personally doubt that would ever happen. Gaming has always been a somewhat niche thing and even if mobile gaming continues to surge, people like this crazy thing called 'variety.'

Re: WayForward: "eShop a Major Part of Our Plan"

c1pher_c0mplet

While it could use a few improvements still, I'm happy with the eShop overall in the 3DS and couldn't have asked for a better online store. I'm glad WayForward will continue to support the eShop and hopefully other developers/publishers will as well.

Re: Operation Rainfall Responds to Nintendo's "Never Say Never"

c1pher_c0mplet

@44
Totally, I agree with that. Just because Sakaguchi is behind The Last Story doesn't mean it'll be great. Sakaguchi-san was behind Blue Dragon for the Xbox 360 and that game didn't do so well (and is easily one of his weakest efforts in my opinion).

But still I think it's a bleeding shame what's going on here from NOA's end. I mean even if The Last Story isn't that great of an RPG, it'd still be better than the droves of crapware that's been released for the Wii since it's been out.
