The wait is almost over! After months of rumours, and a surprise announcement during the last Nintendo Direct, Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition will be hitting Switch consoles around the world tomorrow. This package contains the 1999 PS1 classic Chrono Cross, along with the never-before-localised sound novel Radical Dreamers.
Chrono Cross is most distinctly remembered for its stunning score - which Square Enix has been acutely aware of, promoting the many accompanying arrangements - and beautiful artwork. And to celebrate the game's upcoming release, Chrono Cross' character designer, Nobuteru Yuuki, has sketched up some gorgeous new artwork featuring two major characters from the game - the Aussie-accented thief Kid and the mysterious Franglais-speaking Harle.
Yuuki also had this to say about this upcoming remaster, which has been kindly translated by Genki_JPN on Twitter: "The disturbing state of the world is a shame, but now I would like to celebrate with all the fans who have been waiting." This remaster has been a long-time coming, and it's fantastic to see the Chrono series get some love on the Switch. Ahem, so, when's that Chrono Trigger port coming?
Square Enix had even more of Yuuki's lovely artwork to show off just a few days ago too, which shows just a handful of the game's eclectic cast of characters, with protagonist Serge cheerfully standing in the centre:

You'll be able to download Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition tomorrow, 7th April, on your Switch. But wait! It might be worth holding off a moment or two; as noted in our review of the game, the Switch port in particular struggles with framerate issues: "Smaller areas like the Pirate Ship remained stable, but Termina and other expansive areas chugged along here and there. Battles also suffered from some minor slowdown, especially when first loading or after enemies were defeated". But don't fret; there's a day-one patch incoming, with a second patch following soon after.

Let's all celebrate a buggy mess 🎉🎉😂
The artwork is really cute. Poshul is a funny doggy.
I'm gonna need you all to stop asking for a(nother) crappy port of Chrono Trigger or an even worse remake. You must not be paying attention to the current output. And no, it doesn't need the 2DHD treatment, you're just wrong. Thanks a bunch.
Happy to see that some of the weirdos and sideshows got their moment in the sun too, where's Funguy though?
No love for Glenn?
Everyone knows the best team is Serge, Leena and Glenn.
@Browny
It is a pretty big problem for the game for having such an extensive cast yet so few party slots. Serge's always taking up one slot too and there more than a few occasion where the story forces someone on your 2nd slot too leaving only 1 character you can actually choose. It is one of my biggest annoyances about the game, if you're gonna have a big cast (which in itself is a prospect I like) then make sure your game is actually designed around that.
@Expa0
My comment was more of a joke post, really.
I understand your argument, however. While others have said that the large cast is a problem, because a select few are actually fleshed out characters, I actually didn't mind. Compared to Trigger, Cross was more about the plot than the characters; not inherently a worse form of story telling, just a different one.
Being forced to use different characters throughout the story is frequently a concern with RPGs, so again, doesn't faze me. And by the end of the game, you're free to use whichever party make up you want. (Serge is always required, yes, but not if you're playing NG+).
Will there likely be a patch coming to fix the issues?
The saddest thing is that this terrible port is likely going to underperform and cause SE to kill the Chrono franchise for good...
Now draw them making martinis together.
