We've all dreamed of eating Pokémon, despite our best judgment. Sure, they're our companions, our pets, our ticket to the Pokémon League, and more... but some of them also look tasty. Would a Miltank burger be any good? Is a Squirtle soup unethical? And which of the many fish Pokémon would taste best?
We'll never be able to answer those questions, mostly because Pokémon aren't real, but animator Brainqueen has created some detailed imaginings of chefs preparing Pokémon to eat. Peeled Chikorita, anyone?
Now tell us in the comments: How would you prepare your favourite Pokémon? Charizard steak with a Cherrim jus? Nanab Split with Vanillite on top? Get creative!

"Ever Wanted To Know What It's Like To Peel A Pokémon And Eat It?"
No.
Finally, this question has been racking my brain for months!
leave Chikorita alone! 😭
Not the weirdest thing on the internet I've seen. Not even close.
Aw that's pretty cu- ohhh
Oh my god.
Kate you have forever stained my look on food Pokémon
Everyone knows when it's a Kate Grey article, lol
Well, I guess that’s no longer on my bucket list…
hey um how do i delete articles off this website please
Must

I've seen a video like this for Splatoon squids and my response is the same now as it was back then: how do I forget seeing this.
That being said, I'll gladly squeeze a Smoliv if I'm desperate for some pan oil.
In an alternate universe, Pokemon Trainers react in shock to seeing animations of cows and chickens, from hit kids game "Animals", being eaten
I already had seen enough of this skin peeling stuff when my class mates introduced me to happy tree friends back in elementary school... Even as a joke.. no thanks.
It's unsettling because you know these Pokémon have personalities... or they did, anyway. Yikes.
Barf.
Was wondering when such a video would make their appearances. Guess there's a dark side we all don't see.
@PBandSmelly - My first thought as well. To the Pokémon universe, this shouldn't be too much to handle, as it would be their norm.
Unless you're a PokéVegan... I am not even sure how you can be in that universe, even plants have feelings.
.....Yeeeaaah no thanks.
I’ve been using this website for over a decade, and this is the first time ever where I wish I could block an article from the front page. I don’t need to see a skinned Chikorita when loading up this website.
The sound effects are more visceral than the visuals are in these.
I assume people eat pokemon in universe, it's just not something that's ever depicted. Still, seeing something that is by design meant to be cute getting dismembered is inherently disturbing. I guess that's the point though. It reminds of the cute cartoon shoe in Roger Rabbit that gets melted by the dip. That one stuck with me for awhile as a kid.
@OldManHermit it is depicted. Aside from several Pokédex entries that mention Pokémon as edibles like Appletun’s pastry skin or Alcreamie’s …um….cream, the Slowpoke tale has been a thing since at least Yellow but I think maybe Red & Blue/Green.
In Yellow Team Rocket were gathering Slowpoke and chopping off their tales to sell as they were said to be delicious. Then much later in I think X&Y it was an item you could get and sell for high value as it was “delicious”. In Sun & Moon there were frozen Slowpoke tales in the back of the freezer. By Sword and Shield you could make Slowpoke tail curry to share with your team and got a very detailed illustration of it followed by an animation of you and a team mate eating it.
Pretty sure the series also showed grilled Magikarp and such as well.
Honestly people always ask this question but it’s never really been a question. Maybe ‘which ones are eaten?’ but not ‘are they eaten?’.
But also yeah, that shoe upset me so much as a kid!
Also I usually enjoy Kate’s articles but that Chikorita’s eyes will haunt me. I am NOT watching my boy Bulbasaur get this treatment!
@OldManHermit it is mentioned, I seem to remember a criminal organisation dealing in slowpoke tails for example, and it's mostly a crime I seem to remember - but as with everything, humans have the most insane double standards here, as I also remember something about a magicarp as a meal, and that was all a-okay apparently. All eating of sentient beings should be a crime in any universe, especially the "real" one we live in.
What about children that will see this ?? Maybe they want to peel their parents afterwards ???
I watched these and can't take it back
Officially disturbed by these short clips. Time to go disturb my wife because I'm not going to be the only one burdened by this knowledge.
Edit: wife refused to watch her favorite pokemon, bulbasaur, be cut into pieces. Yet she was fine taking a peek at the final product.
Haha, I like this^^
evil grin
@Shambo @Ogbert Thanks for the insights! Admittedly my knowledge of the lore is somewhat limited as I only played the earlier games.
Pokémon poachers are eating good tonight, literally.
This is just plain wrong.
Well that's enough NintendoLife for a while
I don't even feel right being a vegetarian right now...
Slow day in the news room I see...
I feel traumatized.... o_o;;;
Considering that humans also marry pokemon this is extra disturbing. Who determines what is food vs pet or marriage material? And for that matter what Pokemon did humans evolve from? Missingno?
Reminds me of Brian David Gilbert's last video for Polygon.
https://youtu.be/EqzghgtJ1Is
And, look at that. This place has officially posted that one gruesome showcase from a few years ago.
I hate it, take it off.
Omg so disturbing. I hope my children never see this or their childhood will be beyond what a therapist can rescue
It only took 7 seconds of the video for me to declare this as the land of 10,000 nopes. I won’t act like the person making this isn’t talented because they clearly are, but this is all sorts of messed up.
I had no idea so many people on this site didn’t know how to not read an article they don’t like or a video they don’t want to watch.
Happy to help! Follow these simple steps:
•Open NintendoLife
•Seek an article you don’t care for
•Now, do NOT click on it.
It seems difficult at first, but with a bit of practice you’ll be skipping on articles left and right in no time! 💪🏻
@DashKappei But the thumbnail though.
Oh a wet market… where pokerus originated from
@Patelo1994 why on earth would you jump to the conclusion that they would want to PEEL THEIR PARENTS?!?😂
It’s the sound effects. Nintendo Life, thank you for ruining my lunch. What’s even worse is that it’s listed as #152, so does that mean there are 151 more?
Uh...this is something I wish I hadn't seen, and I'm not watching the second one. Where's the eyeball bleach?
@OldManHermit that part of Roger rabbit made me sad. It still does in fact.
Sooooo... 90% of that was horrifying, but am I the only one that let a laugh slip with the charmander at the end?
why the hell would you go on and post this? - come on man..this is just disturbing as heck : s...haaaa....poor pokemons..ugh
Not sure why y'all are protesting. Chicorita is Grass type, so the dish is clearly vegan.
Now eating Bulbasaur is just silly. It's clearly marked as Poison.
@3rdStrongestMole The video has "wet market" in it's name so it's probably mocking traditional Chinese medicine.
This is probably the most disturbed video i've seen and i like dark humor. This is not funny, it's just unsettling and scary.
I don't really understand why people find this disturbing. It's much less graphic than when you do it to a cow or something irl lol
@TommyTendo
I guess it's disturbing because Pokemon are shown in the TV show to have intelligence pretty much on par with a human. (Even if they can only say their own name over and over again)
They are definitely action more human than any existing real animal that I can think of.. Closest thing I can think of would be dolphin.
@TommyTendo but what humans do to real animals IS INCREDIBLY disturbing. They're just mostly desentisised to it (the humans, the animals still suffer, no matter how much we are made to believe that the missing link between a living creature and a piece of dead animal can be "humane" and "animal friendly"). Haven't eaten any animal for about twenty years now, and luckily most people around me have followed. I wish I could unsee some of the cruelty and total human ignorance of it that I've seen in real life.
Me: this is fascinating, hilarious even, it's not that weird, probably inspired by real butchery.
Me to me: when did you become so desensitized?
P.S. for real though they toned this down a lot considering how SFW it is.
I find the notion unapPEELing.
@Patelo1994 They will laugh at the videos. They're clearly shying away from showing ugly parts of butchery, like cleaning out the guts or draining blood. That Chicorita video is basically like peeling a steamed vegetable. One with eyes, but still.
@SmaggTheSmug maybe there's a way to safely eat a Bulbasaur if you kill it right, like a Fugu fish
