Re: Hollow Knight: Silksong Update Announced, Here Are The Patch Notes

aSmilingMan

@Henmii Yup, it's the random thing. There is a chance that it spawned on a random bench I was running through and I have no intention of checking every one. I did do everything else in the game (other than steel runs) and am extremely happy with it. Top 10 of all time game experiences for me. I appreciate you trying to help!

Re: Poll: So, What Did You Think Of The Switch 2 Reveal?

aSmilingMan

The console looks like everything I was hoping for. From the naming, to the improvements on the original.

HOWEVER, the reveal was pitiful. No presentation, no games reveal, no hardware specs.... they essentially confirmed what we saw in all the leaks. They've had this ready for months and could've done better.

Re: Ubisoft's Disastrous 2024 May Lead To The Company Going Private

aSmilingMan

Ubisoft's fall is not good news for any gamer. The industry is hurting and we don't need any more layoffs and studios closing.

While some of their games are indeed not to my liking, this is also the studio that brought us many classics: Rayman, AC, Far Cry, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Mario + Rabbids, Watch Dogs etc.

I do hope they change their marketing department, stop the price cut shenanigans.

Re: Grant Kirkhope Appears To Have Completed His Work On Mario + Rabbids

@Shambo if you like the genre, don’t sleep on Valkyria Chronicles. It’s my favorite of the bunch. 1 & 4 are on Switch. 2 is PSP and not as good. 3 is pretty good but never got localized in the West. There is a fan made translation that is surprisingly polished but it does require buying the Japanese copy and tinkering with it.

Re: Grant Kirkhope Appears To Have Completed His Work On Mario + Rabbids

Precisely @JohnnyMind!
@Shambo you’re not alone. But I don’t think it makes you “guilty”. People buying high quality AAA Ubisoft games for crazy discounts soon after launch is their fault, not yours. I’ve done it too. Yet, when Nintendo launches a new 3D Mario or Zelda game, I don’t hesitate to pay full price. I know it’ll be about a year until it is discounted, and rarely more than 30%. That consistent pricing and messaging properly honours the quality of the games. I wish Ubisoft would learn from those who get it right.

I really hope Ubisoft changes their marketing strategy to honour the good work from their developers. The shenanigans of building a AAA game and then cutting the price in half a month later means no-one buys their games full price.

I’m happy to buy a Mario + Rabbids game at full price. These games have Nintendo-like polish and unique gameplay. Ubisoft, don’t blame the title or the IP. Blame the marketing geniuses who give you such a bad reputation.

Re: Paw Patrol World Brings Open-World To Adventure Bay This Year

aSmilingMan

@Classic603 we got the other paw patrol game for our kid when he was 3 and he loves it! It performs well on the switch and has been a great intro to platforming. The performance was good too. We tried the Peppa game, but it the performance made it unplayable. We were always in loading screens.

If this performs well on the Switch it’s a day 1 for our home. The kids love watching TOTK, and I would love to have them play something they can manage themselves.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For LEGO 2K Drive

aSmilingMan

I really hope there's some type of lawsuit against this type of game. While I detest micro-transactions in general, I absolutely abhor it in games targeting children. I was very much looking forward to introducing this game to my children. Unfortunately, this game is not coming into my home.

2K is somehow becoming my most disliked studio, even with all the intense competition for the spot.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp?

aSmilingMan

PSA: Before I comment on the game, I strongly encourage people to not miss the voucher opportunity, if you're planning on getting this and TOTK. Both games go from $130 to $99 with the vouchers.

This is my first Advance Wars game. While I like it a lot, I'm feeling like the $60 price tag (or even $50 with the voucher) was too steep for what is on offer. Given that all the gameplay concept was created decades ago, it's disappointing that they don't have proper voice acting or online matches with non-friends. Now that I've read more about the series, it's also a bummer that they didn't include the later games in this one package.

Overall, it feels like a cash grab on a game that deserves a lot of merit. I think it should be a $40 game at most.

This game had a real 10/10 potential. With the problems I listed above, I give it an 8/10.

Re: Random: YouTuber Spends Nearly $23K Buying Every 3DS & Wii U eShop Game

aSmilingMan

When I saw that NL was reporting on this, I assumed the comments would be singing Jirard and his team’s praises - especially since this is a video game publication. Now reading the comments, I notice that the negative ones are by people commenting on a topic they don’t know about and on a video they didn’t watch.
Given the uniqueness of the DS and WiiU hardware, we should be grateful that someone went through the effort of preserving these media. IMO, this is something Nintendo should do and that there should be arquival laws to ensure it happened. However, since that’s not an option yet, as these eShops go down, private endeavors are crucial.
