It looks really good! But I can't help sharing the disappointment of not having more Heist. Steamworld Heist is one of the only games I played to 100% twice. I'd buy Heist 2, day 1 with all dlc. Please devs, make Heist 2 and take my money.
@SwitchVogel as soon as I saw this article, I was going to comment the same thing. Their sales model is the worst I know of in the industry. They make fantastic AAA games but everyone just waits and expects a bargain price. Their pricing reputation is terrible.
I wish they replaced their marketing/pricing strategy and did what other major publishers did with pricing.
Personally, I wouldn’t mind if they did get acquired by a bigger house. It pains me to hear of Ubisoft titles being canceled. Loved Marrio + Rabbids, Immortals Fenyx Rising, some AC, and am excited for Skull and Bones.
Their developers deserve better than what their current corporate team deliver.
Funnily enough, I'm enjoying my Switch even more now that I have a Steam Deck. Gone is the frustration of not being able to play a few select games on the go. I just savor the Switch for what it is, without resenting it for what it isn't.
Agreed with most of the comments on here, some great deals!
Just pointing to Death’s Door, which for $9.99 is a steal. It’s a gem of a game.
Also, for those like me who never got into Monster Hunter games, Rise has been an amazing entry point. I’m having a blast, especially when playing w a friend.
User warning: unless they really change up the whole game, DON’T BUY IT! I bought the first one to play with my son (as their first videogame) and I couldn’t believe how bad the port was. Every few seconds there’s a 10sec loading screen that makes it unplayable. They were bored out their mind and kept asking why Peppa was always “in the snow” – the loading screen is Peppa walking in a white background. Given the attention span of children, unless you’re buying it for X or PS5, this is an unfortunate skip.
I think this is an editorial mistake. A review like this, that is such a severe mismatch with a vast majority of player and reviewer experiences should probably have gone through a more thorough vetting before going live. I hope they take it down and bring a more nuanced review onto the site.
@Nickinator hahahaha too funny! I really do hope it's a good release. Sonic has never been my thing but this could tip the scales for me. I hope it reviews well.
Feels like there's a lot riding for Sega on this release. While I really hope it's a success, I'm very skeptical of these "releases" that don't show gameplay.
I wish Sega would put energy on their best IP, IMO: Valkyria Chronicles, instead just doing more and more Sonic.
Well, obviously bad ports are on the developer AND there's only so much magic that a developer can tap into to make things work on the Switch.
A great example of this is the Switcher 3. Fantastic port of a game I couldn't believe I could play in handheld. Yet, it's a pretty dull looking version of a game that looks stunning on all other platforms.
The Switch is 5 years old. We're overdue for better hardware. Same form factor, but with updated internals and magnetic thumbsticks on joycons.
This game is in my top 10, if not even top 5 on the Switch. It's wild to see what a nifty and solid 3D platformer this small studio was able to make.
Seems like they were able to do what Nintendon't: a 3D Mario Maker (of sorts)! The tight controls for the character make it a delight to play with. Can't wait to experience all the void creations.
I guess that's just the new normal. The game is repeatedly delayed because they can't seem to finish it, but somehow they found time to develop the characters they won't include in the base game but will sell for additional $$.
The game needs to be really good and review really well for me to jump into it.
Really hope they patch up the difficulty. I loved the first game and thought the ultra challenges DLC were the perfect icing on the cake.
I was really looking fwd to this, but will wait until the game is fully fleshed out with dlc and hopefully a difficulty update. Wouldn’t mind paying full price for that.
To think he’ll probably be as old as I am now when he finishes… hope Minecraft servers are still running then. And hope he finds the process enjoyable or feels comfortable dropping it if not.
I really tried to like it. Poured a couple dozen hours and played most of the main game, but none of the tough boss sequences.
In the end, the game just turned out to be too depressing for me. I just felt super meh after every gaming session and like I needed to escape from what was supposed to be my escape.
I loved the tight platforming and combat, and the incredible enemy diversity. The ambience, colors, sound and general tone just made this impossible for me to like. I’d take a Guacamelee 3 over Silksong any day.
It is absolutely infuriating to see a brand like Disney, that is clearly geared at younger gamers, going the F2P, gatcha, addiction route instead of producing wholesome content. What a missed opportunity. Shame.
Seems like a lot of people don't quite understand how stocks work. Sure, they spent 40k, but they didn't lose it. They still have 40k in stock AND they got to make the request.
It's one of those moments where those with abundant resources get to have their cake and eat it too.
@Sam_TSM I find the more gimmicky stuff annoying too. The way I see it is that they depend on these subscriptions and interactions for their revenue and, in many cases, livelihood. Until we have a better models to pay content producers on social, seems like the gimmicky stuff will be here to stay.
I never quite enjoyed the darker tones of Disney's more recent video games escapades. I loved what was being done up to the 16 bit era. Then again, I'm one of those players who find it much more enjoyable to play Guacamelee than Hollow Knight. I would love Disney to use their incredible IP and make a solid, beautiful, uplifting, bright colored 3D game - no toys, no microtransactions, no Square Enix.
@Sam_TSM hundreds of thousands of new users to platforms every day don't know about the subscribe button. Catering to people entering any space is generally good practice. If you haven't already, I think you might enjoy watching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ax7f3JZJHSw. It's a nice little experiment of what it's like to play video games as a non-gamer.
Not an EA fan, but boy does FIFA make them look good in comparison! FIFA's interminable entanglement with bribery, corruption and money laundering makes them one of the most dislikable organisations in the world. I'll probably stick to Mario Strikers...
@NDragon1412 thanks for the notes on this. Does seem quite appealing. Just wish it had HD rumble. I may play it with non rumble games though and use it for ipad gaming.
This is easily one of the review sites I most trust. Every time the team gives an 8+ to a ninty game, someone inevitably suggests that it’s because they always give extra high marks for nintendo games. Glad to have a big release like this getting it’s well earned 6. Maybe it’ll quiet the trolls for a few weeks.
Minish cap please! It’s one that escaped me back in the days and only had a time limited eshop run that was only available to those in the 3DS ambassador program, which I was too late for.
Got this and regret it. While they did a good job bringing in the voices from the show in different languages, the load times are too frequent and pathetically long. The studio did not do a good job bringing this to the switch. My 3 yr old gets bored to death with the incessant loading.
I actually quite like these visuals, and will take this over pixel art any day of the week. Personally, can't stand pixel art any more. It worked great for Celeste, but usually is a just a short cut for devs without the resources to make more sophisticated models.
My interest piqued with "Responsive controls make it a joy to move around". Responsive controls plus decent metroidvania dynamics is enough to make it into my library at the right price. Will pick it up when price comes down to $15.
@HamatoYoshi doubt it. Putting a price on something priceless does not make it better, nor is it a good predictor of preference. This gift seems both priceless and on point. Well done to whoever put it together in Nintendo!
To all the people thinking that he is bashing the game, just listen to how he talks about the game. He's gushing over it! Check out what he said at 52:01.
He displays deep admiration for the game, and just happens to think like a designer and strategist who has a reasonable, though controversial, opinion about the EMMI encounters.
@StarPoint was about to share that. If anyone hasn't played Mario + Rabbids it's a no-brainer to get it for $9.99, especially with the sequel around the corner. It's one of the best games I played on Switch.
Still too pricey for shovelware. I love arcade racers and poured days into Cruisin’ games in the 64 era. The courses are essentially reskins of each other and the rubber band effect is so out of whack that winning is just about knowing how to end well a race. I played this for a little over 5hrs because I REALLY wanted to like it. I found it absolutely intolerable. I have serious buyer’s remorse with this purchase.
Gives me the feeling I had when I learned about Empire of Sin. If they get this right, this game would quickly become one of my favorites. However, there are LOTS of moving parts and plenty to get wrong. If any of the many systems don't work in the game, it could make the whole thing fall apart. I really hope they test this up the wazoo before releasing and do a beta release first too.
@xDeckardx thanks for the notes on this. I know it’s a tall ask, but would love NL to make a revised review post all the patches. This was the game I was most excited for in 2021, but then they completely messed up the launch big time.
