If you haven't already checked out The Wonderful 101: Remastered on Switch and are wondering whether or not it might be for you, feel free to give our full review a good read. We described it as "one of the most memorable action games you’ll ever play," even with all the original game's flaws left intact.
Thanks to Ryan for the tip!

There’s the demo available now. Was on the fence but after the demo got it for £24 from amazon
Once I'm done with Borderlands collection, I'll probably finally boot up the kickstarter copy I have here. Adding Bayonetta made it a lot more appealing... You know what else would be nice? Some news about Bayonetta 3.
Pretty sure all these codes and more were released for the Wii U version.
I think its appalling that this content is not pushed to Wii U for those of us that supported the game at the start.
@chiptoon ...cheat codes? all of the stuff they unlock is still in the game, and there's an alternative set of cheat codes if you want to get technical
It's a shame, there's so much about this game that is completely lovable, but any time I ever try to play it, I just can't get into it. Dying over and over again for unforeseeable reasons just never seems fun. And yet the game itself is so dense and charming.
@NEStalgia What is the problem if i might ask?
The platforming can be a bit iffy due to the forced perspective, the QTE's are fixed and thus, learnable and the overall combat system it actually closer to Bayonetta / DMC than many realize at first
One hint i can give you, that i didn't quite realized back on the WiiU:
Make use of the independent Unite attacks (Draw the form and press X instead of Y).
Not only do you dish out more damage, they also contribute to your combo rating, thus, giving you more money which makes the game easier ^^
Also, there is no shame in grinding out older levels again and again. You level individual Wonderful's (Yes, they all have levels...), gain money and mixer components.
Plus, you practice combat ^^
Games like these become way easier the more comfortable you get with their controls and your available move set.
When those split-second decisions become muscle memory and you develop your own "bread and butter" combo routine, lower difficulties become a cakewalk ^^
@NEStalgia same... like every time I SEE this game in action, even back on the Wii U, I was just in amazement... and when I heard of it's release for the Switch n stuff, I got excited... but whereas on the Wii U I PROBABLY got to stage 2, I couldn't even finish the demo... just SOMETHING about it... but it IS indeed very entertaining... scenes like where Wonder Blue had just transformed and they paused in mid-air, bur he kept moving out of place were hilarious... tons of charm, but just probably not my game
@Einherjar I think my biggest problem with it is how much of it depends on memorizing the stages and battles to play them properly without any real ability to play through and react to situations as you encounter them. Bayonetta, DMC provide the same overall battle structure from battle to battle, meaning you learn a new enemy and learn how to use your available skill ets to take on that enemy type. For 101, too many things are one-off environmental situations, enemies with new changes that require a specific mechanic or approach that otherwise isn't part of the standard compliment. It' mostly requires replaying and replaying with a memorization of what's coming and how to deal with it. Very 90's arcade design. A bit Souls-like I suppose you can say, though even souls has only its arguably basic combat structure without having to switch between tons of completely one-off systems.
I like what it tries to do, but it has a mix of cumbersome, inaccurate controls along with trying to do too many things at once, and too many unpredictable events throwing off your ability to react to a situation effectively.
I can see where it's a cult kind of game, anyone that it clicks with there's a lot there to dig into. But getting it to click is the trouble. I've bought it twice, and initially adore it...want to love it...and inevitably get put off it the more I played it.
@NEStalgia Very well put together! Perfectly understandable, even though i don't necessarily share your views, being one of the people where it clicked.
But i can definitely see what you mean.
While DMC and Bayonetta offered a similar selection of weapons and moves, W101 does so all at ones and has enemies that flat out require you to use certain things (Whip Vs. spiky enemies) exclusively and break up your bread-and-butter.
The thing is, when it clicks, this is also its biggest asset, as all these shenanigans can turn the table around and make it exceptionally easy.
But yeah, it has to click, these unite forms need to come naturally and fast, you need to be able to grasp the battlefield quickly and analyze enemy composition, where to put what team unite, watch out for incoming attacks etc.
You know, the more i think about it, the more it sounds like an RTS
The code was released 4 days ago...
“ PlatinumGames has confirmed that MOE codes will be released in the future”
Lucky Star or K-On crossover confirmed?
Already got the demo for Wii U, didn’t like it, stop forcing me to get it for switch.
It never clicked for me either unfortnately. Still not finished the Wii U copy i got at launch for £30(mission 6? I think i got too). Bayonetta 2, no problems a joy to play. W101 just makes me frustrated and wish they'd made it more like Viewtiful Joe or something, in 3D.
@chiptoon appalling? Like a war crime?
My local Target (in Washington State) has this game at $19.99 as a "clearance" price. Anyone looking for this physically may want to check their stores, too.
Is there a code to make the framerate tolerable?
Need to fire up my game then...
@NEStalgia How far are you into the game?
@Chunkboi79 I beat it on WiiU, but I'm pretty sure I turned the difficulty down and couldn't drag myself through it again. I bought it again on switch thinking the form factor might help me appreciate it more, but only got up to getting wonder yellow and a little beyond before putting it down again. I did get a little more of a grip on the gameplay at points this time, but it still kept frustrating at every turn, despite wanting to finally love it.
I love the mood and feel and concept a lot. It's unique and special on it's own way. But the design just puts me off for a collection of irritating reasons.
I didn’t even know this game was out on the switch. I have it for the Wii U and the controls with the game pad was Abysmal. My hands were hurting after about a half an hour. This is a button mashing fantasy. I will probably wait for a good sale. It is on my wish list.
@River3636 why on earth is it on your wish list if you clearly hated it on wiiu?
@Nintendo_Alski It was the Gamepad it was too bulky and I didn’t have the other controller. It hurt my hands.I was totally getting into it but it was totally hurting my hands. Then some other game came out on the 3DS, I don’t remember and that’s what happened. I also have the lite. I think would be good for the lite.
You have to jump through a lot of hoops to unlock all the characters normally (which I did in the Wii U days) so the codes at least allow everyone to play who they want.
@River3636 ahh fair enough that makes sense , hope the switch version is more comfortable for you.
Having the mayonetta code is so cool she kicks ass! Yeah
Bought the original on a buy two get one free deal on the Wii U forever ago and have not touched it - I played the demo on both the Wii U and and Switch but something about this one always made me lethargic about playing it. Seeing it on sale keeps tempting me but I also got a million other games waiting on the wings including
Tokyo Mirage Sessions™ #FE Encore which is another game I got for the Wii U back in the day (in that same buy 2 get one free deal actually) but got deciently far into and always thought it deserved a new life on switch.
That reminds me, I need to sell my copy.
I tried very much to like this game, but I just couldn’t get into it at all.
Still one of my most enjoyed action games; its like a movie on chibi steroids.
@Clammy ok.
@JedRock If you already have it, I definitely encourage you to give it a go for a few more levels; yeah, lots of the platforming bits are clunky, but once you get more morphs, purchase abilities, and adjust to the flow of the combat, it ends up feeling amazing (at least I found that). It took me probably until the end of the 3rd operation to start feeling it, but with all the things to uncover in levels, I had to let myself shrug off the low rankings and see it as replay value once I got good.
The ending is definitely worth it
I have several questions concerning that last code.
ugh...need to break the seal and fire this game up....
@Minfinity yea... I'm sure I'll eventually give it a try... I know I AM interested as I keep up with it's updates n stuff... I think it's just because it DOES have quite a learning curve early on, and so it doesn't allow me for an easy and quick pick up 'n play. I'm sure once I have the time to really sit and learn it tha I'll be able to enjoy it in the same way you have, as well 🙂
