Have you guys ever considered putting a disclaimer on your front page that says "Switch 2 does not provide the most technically advanced versions of games."? That way your reviewers wouldn't need to write this in every review
Cool game and demo, thanks for pointing this out. The signs of an abandoned Switch 1 port are there, though. The resolution is a little fuzzier than I would imagine is necessary on the 2. Hopefully they can clean that up by release? The opening of the demo has a disclaimer that says the visuals are not final
$39.99 is a perfectly reasonable price for a polished and memorable 9/10 made by a large team of talented individuals. This isn't the early 2000s anymore.
@WhiteTrashGuy you don't get to mention bad bosses in Wonder after bringing up a game that makes you play Bam Bam 8 times. 😏
I agree NSMBU has some qualities that make it a valid peer to Wonder. But there is one area I think NSMBU really outshines Wonder - secrets. Such as secret exits and hidden levels. Wonder has like 1 or 2 good secret exits, but the majority of hidden areas in that game just gives you purple coins. That felt like a huge missed opportunity in a game with such a large beautiful map
Milkmaid of the galaxy is a cool adventure game. And if you like the thumbnail for that one, make sure to wishlist the thumbnail for his second (even better) game, Embracelet
Huh. Wish I saw the magic in Air Riders, but I just don't. I played the demo both weekends and my feelings ranged from mildly pleased to completely turned off
Yeessss the momentum is gaining for Drag x Drive. I play this a few times a week and some of these changes are really nice additions. But they need to take it further.
Next they need to add more balls to the court for practicing when no game is being played and I think they need to make the timer stop in between shots. Currently it just keeps counting down, even when nobody has the ball. More courts and cosmetics would be nice too.
Ouch. I played the original for hours back in the day (although my memories of it are entirely from the first stage). I even found enjoyment from Bubsy 3D once I found the rhythm of it's slow methodical platforming. I'm interested in going back to see what I think of them all now
It'd be a nice change of pace if your headline for this article advertised the "rather solid" state of the game the same way your previous article advertised the poor state of the game
Why didn't you quote the parts of the video where the guy says the port "does look impressive," "the ray tracing lighting looks really good," and even says the dogfight portions didn't impress him on a PS5 either?
@Fighting_Game_Loser yeah I'm surprised more people aren't talking about that. How in the world does this game with basic cartoon textures and a single small island stage take up 25 gigs?
Actually, I think that makes it the largest first party Nintendo game ever, right?
@swoose I have to agree with you. I personally critiqued the look online when the game was first revealed.
During the demo, however, the game had a lot more personality than it first appeared. The music is lively, the graphics are attractive, and the 1:1 hand movements of the joycons allow for lots of playfulness
@cylemmulo I think you've just answered the question of why this game looks this way. Put any sort of actual character in these seats and you're immediately making this a game about handicapped individuals. Making it these cookie-cutter robotic vehicle-android hybrids immediately removes the human element out of the game's theming. Can you imagine how different the online discussion would be around this game if Nintendo had designed the characters any other way?
I had a great time with the demo. And $20 makes it a painless purchase, even if it runs out of steam quickly.
Single player content seems unnecessary, especially at this price point. The game's core mechanics feel deep enough that mastering them in the heat of a match will last a player far longer than a campaign would.
What happened to his comments from the developer interview on Nintendo's YouTube about Switch 2 being very powerful and the game being made specifically for Switch 2?
"Usually, we'll have to port a game to a platform. But in this case we're making Borderlands 4 for the Nintendo Switch 2."
"We don't feel like we're fighting the system. We feel like the system is enabling us and empowering us to make the best version of Borderlands 4 that we can."
What's with all the comments about graphics? This article isn't about the graphics, it's about this new Legends spin off looking so bland.
Arceus has a unique setting, unique art style, new gameplay, an unprecedented scope for the series - everything about it was bold and exciting. This looks like... just more Pokemon content. What happened to the striking black and neon blue cyber aesthetic from the teaser trailer, for instance?
@Ogbert I feel the same. The name had previously been a trusted source of quality for a very specific niche of gaming - experimental, cinematic, visually striking. Now I'm not sure what to expect from them.
@bluemage1989 except the story said that "ALL" of Annapurna Interactive's staff walked out, including the president and other executives.
This dev is a critical darling for some reason. I've never played the original Citizen Sleeper but I played another game he put out called In Other Waters that also reviewed really well. It was one of the most boring games I've yet played on Switch.
@Yalloo you got the ending wrong because nowhere does the game hint about the thing you said it's about nor does that wikipedia page you said you referenced. Either you don't know what that thing is, or you're thinking about a different game.
Thanks to JohnnyMind for the spoiler help. I didn't know that was possible on this site.
@Yalloo mods can you delete this guy's comment? He openly spoils the ending of Rime, one of my most favorite moments from gaming during the Switch era (but somehow still gets it wrong).
@the_beaver big patches were released for Rime post-release on Switch which improved the game drastically from its launch state. When I played it, there may have been some stutters here and there but I found it to be quite enjoyable.
Anyhoo, this stinks. I loved Rime, Song of Nunu is in my backlog, and I've had my eye of Gylt since it released (it received fairly positive reviews on other platforms).
"The sworded issue of EoW's frame rate landed a much more succinct response from co-director Tomomi Sano, who simply replied that the developers felt the variable approach was the "best option" available."
"WE enjoyed a lot of OUR playthrough, but WE also sometimes found OURselves genuinely frustrated. More than once WE asked ourselves if WE were really having any fun at all."
From the thumbnail, I thought this was going to be The Gecko Gods. ...which coincidentally is another indie announced at an Indie World presentation which has yet to release. (Don't worry though, its eshop web page says it is still scheduled to come out in Spring 2024!)
@Jack_Goetz it released silently on Switch in March of this year. NintendoLife's own forums have posts from someone that played it on Switch. Oddly though it seems to have been since removed from the E-shop just as quietly as it was originally released
