Re: Review: The Last Campfire - A Refreshingly Freeform Puzzle Adventure Packed With Ideas

The story was my favorite part of the game, for any who are interested. The narration during puzzles can be extremely insightful and poignant. Narration only comes when you have made a correct move towards solving the puzzle, as well, so it'll never speak when you're just wandering looking for a solution.

Also for any concerned about the "performance issues" mentioned in the comments, it's a total non-issue. Stuttering does happen when transitioning from the overworld to the puzzle maps, but you don't have any control over your character in those moments and neither is there any story happening. It's basically a seconds-long loading screen in disguise. And seeing how the game never needs to load at any other moment when exploring around, I think it's a pretty good tradeoff

Re: Paper Mario Producer Says Team Is "No Longer Able To Graphically Represent Individual Characteristics" In Toad NPCs

@doctorhino over a period of many years, continuing to take a "creative look" at an established property would require a constant stream of new characters and possibly more and more creative and outlandish designs. It makes sense to impose SOME sort of rules

Read both my comments carefully before getting upset, though. I'm not trying to justify these exact restrictions (which seem absurdly strict), just saying that some sort of rules make sense at this point

It makes sense for a decades old series to start to impose some rules on what is and what isn't allowed in the universe. Add too many "creative" characters and new designs and over time you could have a bit of a mess on your hands.

But part of me also feels like this is a subtle sign of a stifling and unhealthy development environment at Nintendo where a few old hands hold all the power and lower-level minds and ideas are suppressed. Nintendo used to be known for doing new exciting things with their games and single handedly pulling the entire industry deeper into the future... Now it seems like they're more focused on preserving a decaying image of who they once were

Re: Review: Ageless - Not Quite The Next Celeste, But Worth A Look All The Same

Yodalovesu

Ugh... I stopped reading at "The story follows Kiara, a 20-something woman who’s struggling to find purpose in her life." Not because I don't like serious narratives in my platformers, but because a game that rips off Celeste in its visuals AND features a serious story about a young girl struggling with adult life just comes across as really phony and a shameless attempt to cash in on Celeste's rightfully-earned success

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Is Getting An Expansion Pass, And It Looks Mighty

You Pokemon fans are too much. Move on to something you actually enjoy if you hate this game so much. And if you WANT to enjoy it but are just feeling pissy and whiny for reasons, then spend the pocket change they're charging for this DLC, shut up and enjoy the additional time you're getting with the brand new installment in one of your favorite series

Re: Soapbox: Attacking Pokémon Creator Game Freak Isn't Cool, But Biting Back Isn't The Answer

Yodalovesu

Also, WHY CANT Gamefreak employees fight back? These guys aren't our spiritual or moral leaders and I dont hold them to the standards that might come with such a position. They are video game developers and their only responsibility to the world is to deliver a video game, which is exactly what they are going to do in just a few short days. If they want to curse out a few jerks online while keeping at their work, I think they have every right to do so

"It's not the best look" for Nintendolife to have written this article and villified a single Gamefreak employee for saying "Thanks" to the one tweet that was defending him out of the many many others personally attacking him over the last few months.

Anyway, can we just remember two things:
1) These "fans" hated the game from the very first trailer when we didn't know a single thing about the game and they also hated Little Town Hero, a game most of them never played nor have any interest in
2) None of them have EVEN PLAYED THE GAME YET. Like imagine if before Metroid Prime came out, Metroid fans were personally attacking Retro Studios for having changed the perspective of Metroid and insisting they weren't going to buy the final product. How stupid such a statement would look in hindsight

Re: Review: Neo Cab - A Memorable, Emotional Ride

@rhaydeo I'm with you. One thing I didn't like about the demo is that occasionally the game just won't let you pick certain dialog options, forcing you down the path the developers want you to go. What fun is conversation-based gameplay and dialog choices if you're not actually allowed to choose what to say?

Also, it bugs me that not a single review has mentioned how your passengers slide in and out of the car like a cardboard cutout. It's super ugly and really breaks immersion
