Re: Stunning 2D Adventure 'Neva' Is Getting An Expansion, And It's Cheap As Chips

Warioware

@joventer567 agreed actually. Perhaps the voice of dissent but I found Neva, at least, to be pretty but also pretty dull and I never even finished it despite it's apparently short runtime. Also, the camera pulling out so far made it hard, for me at least, to see where to go. And I just wasn't invested enough to care to figure it out, simply not enough going on. Looked nice though.

Re: Preview: So Far, Super Mario Bros. Wonder On Switch 2 Isn't Making A Great Case For Itself

Warioware

I guess this is as good a place as any to say it but my own namesake, Warioware, started as a mostly single player thing but has since drifted towards cr@ppy multiplayer party game status. Not every game, Wonder included, needs to have shallow multiplayer mini games tacked on, there are plenty of alternatives already.

And in the broader picture, whilst the S2 is a great machine (restrictive storage aside), Nintendo's output and activity over the last year seems to have been a bit fumbled (although DK is great).

Re: "People Have A Right To Be P****d" - Dispatch Dev Says It Intends To Address "At Least Some" Censored Switch Content

Warioware

@bnutz2k rest assured that they are definitely over 18 and are probably in their mid to late 30s now given the age of the game. I've been a fan of the series for years so remember that this was part of the pre-release buzz for Zero - they announced that they had partnered with a, um, "adult" entertainment company and there was, I believe, a voting contest in Japan where they could vote for their favourite "employees" to appear in the game as characters and said videos. But I agree that there is content here (and similar stuff in YK1 and YK2) that is far heavier than anything in Dispatch. In fact there is tons of content in Dispatch itself that is far heavier than the censored content in Dispatch. It's quite the mess.

Re: Dispatch Dev AdHoc Responds To Nintendo's Statement, Says It Intends To Address Censored Switch Content

Warioware

@rvcolem1 ok sure but this is a site to discuss videogame issues (and ultimately none of those really matter) and this is an issue with this game because the version is nerfed. Same as people discuss sports games, sometimes even getting emotional, and whole shows are dedicated to that even though, again, it really doesn't matter. At the end of the day it's just a hobby site where we can talk about the ebb and flow of the games industry, good and bad.

Re: Nintendo Responds To Dispatch Switch Censorship With Official Statement

Warioware

The comments here seem to be leaning towards this being the Japanese ratings system. So, ok, but Japan gets releases and updates (one coming for Romance of the Three Kingdoms Remake right about now) that other countries don't get all the time. So..... can't we have this one? Make it a free DLC patch and just don't release it in Japan? I might be wrong here, but this strikes me as the kind of game that probably won't sell very well in Japan anyway.

Re: Nintendo Responds To Dispatch Switch Censorship With Official Statement

Warioware

I have posted and chatted with some of you about this already but it seems my initial view that this was on Nintendo might be incorrect, at least partially. Both statements seem to use a lot of words without giving an actual solid reason. Also, who do they not inform about the requirements? I assume us because not telling the developers might make things awkward.

Having played a bit further now the censorship bars continue to annoy and are particularly obstructive during certain scenes in episode 4. Also, I think I have now passed the sexual scene that NL mentioned that plays out in silence (well, the music still plays). Not sure what they were hoping for here since killing the sound effects is generally used in entertainment to heighten the visuals and generally provide a more intense experience. That kinda holds true here too, until the dumb black boxes start popping up again.

Such weird choices and I hope whoever is actually responsible for this sees sense (and the obvious financial benefit) and fixes this ASAP. And to those on here who like to drop in and name-call those who are annoyed by this, firstly this is a game site to chat about game-related stuff (none of us are arguing that this is literally ruining our lives) and secondly this is an excellent game that deserves to be properly experienced in the same way as on other platforms. Hopefully they will fix it.

Re: PSA: Dispatch's 'Visual Censorship' Settings Can't Be Removed On Switch

Warioware

@Mgalens from memory there were similarities because I believe the PC version in Europe was uncensored. I also think that the game received the same age rating in Europe both with and without the editing when it was submitted for classification.

The same is probably true here since, as I said in another post, the black boxes don't cover up some things that would probably be far more impactful on impressionable minds or could lead to awkward questions from kids (who most definitely shouldn't be playing this anyway). They do, however, distract from the (excellent) visuals and even on one occasion (at least so far) cause confusion.

Somebody was talking about how their modded Switch has easily turned off the bars so it seems like it would be a simple fix. It's not too late Nintendo.....

Re: PSA: Dispatch's 'Visual Censorship' Settings Can't Be Removed On Switch

Warioware

I am three episodes in now. The game is excellent which makes this issue all the more annoying - Nintendo have done Adhoc Studios a disservice here and have probably hurt their sales quite badly (seen loads talking about cancelling and refunding). And it looks from early builds like all the content is in there and only the ability to turn off the (overly large) black bars is gone. Seems like a Nintendo thing to me and if it keeps up the quality then I would probably be thinking about the inevitable double pack on Sony's "Canis" or something for the sequel. I don't regret the buy though - even with this it's been worth it so far for Jeffrey Wright's cantankerous, foul-mouthed character.

But it is just so utterly bizarre - not just the inconsistency with other titles but the simple fact that some of the dialogue and situations go far beyond anything that the black bars have so far covered up. It is VERY clearly not a game for kids and even the artbook (in the deluxe edition) clearly shows that the "sexiness" is part of the design. On the first page! Bah. I hope Nintendo sees sense and patches out this stupidity or this will probably sink on the eShop pretty quickly.

Re: Review: Dispatch Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - A Cracking Superhero Caper, With Some Naughty Bits Covered Up

Warioware

@silver-crescent yes, that too. Thought it might be like Red Dead and the S2 version just happened to be the same size only for it to hog quite a lot of my storage. Not a great start.

I haven't tried to cancel my preorder and I kind of want to support the developer since the censorship sounds like a Nintendo thing. But I can't say I'm thrilled to have black bars all over the place especially when none of this was mentioned earlier. I've been an adult for longer than I generally like to admit and probably see and hear far worse on an average Saturday night out in my local city frankly. This a shame, I was looking forward to this one and it doesn't even fit with the system precedents.

Re: Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties Scores A Switch 2 eShop Demo This Week

Warioware

@jolteon23 YK1 might feel like a bit of a downgrade after Y0 which is pretty much the pinnacle of the "old engine" games. From a story point of view though the first two and Zero are probably the most important until the name change (6 - LAD). All of them are great though. Some are just greater than others.

Re: Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties Scores A Switch 2 eShop Demo This Week

Warioware

Despite my earlier comment I caved, downloaded and tried a little. It is pretty restrictive anyway but gives a decent indication, I think, of the performance. So if you are wondering it seems to run well, probably about the same as YK2 but to my eyes (not the best eyesight) it looked slightly sharper. Also, might have been imagining it but I played in handheld and having the HDR on might have knocked the framerate very slightly. It was better with HDR off. Only messed around for about twenty minutes but all is looking peachy so far. And, hurrah, there is a text size option which puts it at a decent size for handheld so hopefully no more squinting. Also, weird aside, seems like they updated the RGG logo animation.

Re: Preview: Raising My Daddy Rank At A London Gyoza Bar

Warioware

@JohnnyMind definitely do, some of the stories and characters in n the "first" game are the catalysts for everything that follows story-wise. And besides that it's still a great game even with less! Also been double-dipping - this is an excellent series to play on the go.

Re: Atlus Looks Forward To Persona's 30th Anniversary In 2026, Acknowledges Support For Persona 4 Revival

Warioware

To echo some of the thoughts already voiced here - Persona 4 (my favourite game) does not need a remake and is still excellent today. Put those resources into P6. And how about when you release P6, make it the final edition? Or at most make the extra content DLC rather than charging over and over for "new" releases.

And since I'm moaning, why not - Persona 3 now has five versions available and frankly that's too many and none of them have even been a definitive version. I played the demo for Reload and despite the sparkly new graphics walking into the school at the start and seeing the same characters again felt the same as it did in the previous four releases 😵😵‍💫

Re: Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties Announced For Switch 2, Launching In February 2026

Warioware

@KeeperBvK I thought I said UK Official Playstation magazine but just saw that I didn't 😵 I actually did some looking around on this out of my own interest after your comment and apparently Sega even leaned into the comparison with some of their marketing because of the popularity of GTA back then. I don't remember any specifics from that and can't find any online but I do specifically remember reading a pre-release article about it in OPM UK where they talked about the name Like A Dragon and how it was unlikely to keep that name in the west so would most-likely get something far more generic probably including the word "urban". I guess they weren't too far off with that one 😂

Re: Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties Announced For Switch 2, Launching In February 2026

Warioware

@KeeperBvK going right back to the first game it was, I think, in the magazines of the time like the official Playstation magazine. Basically because it was open world and that was still relatively new at the time and the GTA trilogy were the gold standard. It is a long time ago now but I think pre-release as well the trade press kept raising it. That is, it was open world, open world = GTA. Of course the games are very different and I think the Shenmue "defence" was raised fairly early on and accepted. Certainly by the time the second game came out. Now I might be wrong with this next point but I think the fact that it was different to GTA might even have been a factor in the initially poor uptake in the west and the doubts about release that surrounded 2, 3 and 4.
