Re: Video: Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered "Meet The Bosses" Trailer Showcase

Warioware

For my money 2 is the best, then 5 (controversial), 4, 1, 3 and lastly 6. I recall the coverage of Angel of Darkness and from what they said about the second character (Terrence? Trevor.....?) and the RPG elements I am all but certain it was unfinished and is probably almost objectively the worst as a result. 3 was also hamstrung by a horrendous save system whereby you had to collect save crystals and then decide where you wanted to use them. The obvious problem being that you had no idea about the length or design of the level, especially back in those days. I think that the collection allows you to save anywhere though (?)

Re: Best Of 2024: "I Want You To Be Mad" - Crazy Viking Studios On The Brutality Of Volgarr The Viking II

Warioware

I don't mind difficult as long as it respects your time. Couldn't get into Elden Ring because I got tired of exploring for 40 minutes without finding a map or save spot only to be killed by a dragon or something randomly springing out of the sky without warning and invalidating everything I had done in that time. Just don't have time for things like that anymore unfortunately.

Re: Final Fantasy Team Wants To Hear Your Thoughts About The Series

Warioware

Didn't finish FFVII Remake. Playing through the original's Midgar slums years ago I don't remember thinking "I wish this section was 20 hours long and had more cat finding".

We have the classic FF games (1 - 10 IMO) on Switch, the others feel more like spinoffs to me and, maybe unpopular, even in 10 things seemed to be heading in the wrong direction (world map?)

SMT and it's various branches overtook FF as the leader in JRPGs years ago in my opinion. Time to get back to its roots and basics.

Re: New Capcom Survey Wants To Know Your Thoughts About MvC Fighting Collection

Warioware

Didn't pick this up yet but as a general note it would be nice to get the best versions of retro games (or multiple versions) on these collections. For example, I have never played any Rival Schools games but my understanding is that the Japanese home versions featured extensive adventure/dating sim modes that were cut from the western versions. But with the next collection I think we are just getting the arcade version of 2. It would be nice to see all the other content for completion's sake. But I do acknowledge the translation job required for that example.

Oh yeah, and whilst it is probably impossible I would love to see Tatsunoko v Capcom back. Again the home version with the Japanese anime endings (I still do not understand why they were replaced with still images in the western release).

Re: Rumour: 'Switch 2' May Support Samsung's Upcoming MicroSD Cards For Higher Transfer Speeds

Warioware

Storage is still my biggest question with the next console. It basically took them the whole generation to reach the maximum 2TB cards and if S2 is like a PS4 then even 2TB is not going to hold too much. Personally I think we need a new storage format that isn't micro SD and I also wonder if the dock in the new hardware may be used as a storage medium with a higher capacity than the handheld main part and fast transfer speeds

Re: Aspyr's Next Star Wars Remaster Is Now Available To Pre-Order On The eShop

Warioware

I remember enjoying this back in the day, but then I may have been more determined to find enjoyment in the fewer games I had back then. Does anybody remember the official Phantom Menace game on PS1? I still remember the official Playstation magazine giving it something like a 9 or even 10 when it came out and then experiencing the broken mess that it actually was shortly after having enjoyed none of the swanky studio visits and freebies that they enjoyed. Allegedly.

Re: ININ Games Acquires Shenmue 3 Publishing Rights, Teases Announcement

Warioware

@Ryu_Niiyama final game.....? (I haven't finished IW or the Judgement games yet). I thought they shook up the gameplay a fair bit with the change to LAD but I would also like to see them take their style and humour outside of the Yakuza setting. I always hoped that Nintendo might throw some cash their way to make an exclusive with similar gameplay but a completely different setting.

Re: ININ Games Acquires Shenmue 3 Publishing Rights, Teases Announcement

Warioware

Might get flamed for this but I feel like the Yakuza/LAD series picked up the template and reins from Shenmue years ago and made it what it should be. I would love for the RGG team to make a LAD style game focused on a more Shenmue-style world. Set it in the late 80s, bit of retro Persona-esque high school style. Might work.

Re: Reaction: With Xenoblade Chronicles X On Switch, The Wii U's Demise Is Complete

Warioware

@SuntannedDuck2 all fair points. Like I said my lifestyle / work makes physical impractical and risky (the accidents I mentioned were very simple things but cost me loads of my physical games). I am also a big fan of backwards compatibility because most electronic devices have the potential to eventually die. But I am not so keen on things like NSO because I like to be able to hold on to my games in some capacity, rather than them being available to me at somebody else's discretion.

With the remakes and remasters I agree with you that it is getting a bit out of hand in some cases. I love the Persona series but Persona 3 has now had 5 different versions since it's release (and Atlus' rerelease business model is questionable). Likewise Naughty Dog do not seem to have done anything since about 2020 and rerelease games that have only been out for a couple of years. I am no expert but I assume that making remasters takes resources that could be put into something new. I like seeing remasters of older games for sure, but nowadays we seem to be getting remasters of remasters that could probably simply be resolved with backwards compatibility. My post is a bit rambling I think!

Re: Reaction: With Xenoblade Chronicles X On Switch, The Wii U's Demise Is Complete

Warioware

@SuntannedDuck2 my life is quite nomadic so I can't bring my old consoles with me unfortunately and that's also a reason why I prefer digital copies (lost loads of physical games in a couple of moving accidents). But with Windwaker specifically I have already bought the game a couple of times before (GC disc, WiiU disc and then WiiU digital - the accidents I mentioned) but more importantly I have finished it before so I don't feel much need to return to it for now at least. Unless of course they include the DS "sequels" which I have never finished. I am sure that any version of it would still sell like hot cakes though. And really they could just make those two handheld only or something. With XCX I never finished it but really liked it and since my WiiU is in a box in my parents' house thousands of miles away I will be picking this up to dive back in. With some of the other games you mention I think Nintendo's plan for now is to deliver them through NSO. I personally preferred the VC but it's better than nothing I guess. Maybe they will allow download purchases in the future or something.

Re: Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Confirmed For Switch

Warioware

@sketchturner not sure if anybody else answered this yet but in a general sense the first question should probably be have you enjoyed other JRPGs without really following or having interest in the stories? If yes then this is as good as any other gameplay-wise. Specifically with XCX though, this is a lot lighter on story than the other entries in the series and than most JRPGs in general. Some compared it to an MMO but I don't play those to know. What I do remember (and I never actually finished it, hence my interest in picking it up again on Switch) was that there was a much larger focus on world exploration (common for the XC series but even moreso here) and completing missions and side quests with some city development as I recall. Personally I loved the exploration and gradually filling out objectives on the open-world maps. Hope this helps.

Re: Review: Yakuza Kiwami (Switch) - A Decent Port Of An Ambitious, Frustrating Game

Warioware

@JohnnyMind been a while since I have played this one but as I recall after boss fights at least (which sounds like the difficulty spikes mentioned in the review) you can, I think, choose to reduce the difficulty level. There are some cheap feeling attacks but I have played all of the games released in the West and I don't recall any boss battle really being a progress wall if you keep your upgrades at an even pace and carry a few healing items. I think describing these games as "beat em ups" is a bit misleading because the format is probably more RPG-like (LAD directly so), just with action combat. There are even essentially random encounters.

My own take, as a big series fan, this review is harsh but I can understand somebody not liking the series. However, it does pay very little service to the world and mini games which are a massive part of each entry and a huge part of it's appeal and style. Lots of the downtime pacing-wise can be balanced by messing around in the hostess and karaoke bars and batting cages. This is, however, also one of the biggest problems with this entry since there is generally less to do around the game world than the other entries. And that is one of the main reasons, I suspect, why so many are saying that Zero would have been a better first port choice. But this is still a great time if you enjoy the loop and atmosphere.

EDIT : Looks like Nidorom covered most of this already too 😆

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Yakuza Kiwami (Switch)

Warioware

One of my favourite game series and I have been onboard since the first western release nearly 20 years ago, dodgy dub and all. Having said that, if this is testing the Nintendo waters then Zero would have been a better choice. Being a remake of the original this one feels a bit restricted in some senses, especially the world aspects. Zero is just a more complete and contained game. Still great and definitely worth a try if you're new to the series, and I may double dip myself when my wallet offers up more than flies, but other entries just have a lot more to them.

Re: Video: Legacy Of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered "Monstrous Boss" Reveals

Warioware

@Serpenterror not trolling but there is Defiance which is essentially part 3 for both strands of the Legacy of Kain series, if you haven't checked it out it ties everything up nicely from both storylines (there was an abandoned Nosgoth continuation story too, I believe, that has some early concept gameplay on YouTube from memory).

Nitpicking, shouldn't that be "Jedi Power Battles".....?

Re: Best Super Mario Games Of All Time

Warioware

I love Mario games but World has just never jelled with me and I can never put my finger on why. Just not really feeling it. And why Galaxy 2 is still not on Switch is anybody's guess. Remake / remaster or something?

Re: Comedy Horror FPS 'Killing Time: Resurrected' Launches This Month

Warioware

A lot of Splatterhouse mentions here so this is maybe on topic, but am I the only person who liked the PS3 game? Especially since it included the 3 original games.

Also this looks good. I picked up Rise of the Triad on sale and whilst a lot is great the map design just doesn't cut it for me. Hoping they do Dark Forces 2 since I have never played it and they did a great job with the first one.

Re: Mortal Kombat 1 Lands 'Khaos Reigns' Update, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

Warioware

@Dm9982 specifically with MK1 I am not keen on the Kameo system since it essentially just seems to be a glorified special move and puts characters next to each other who canonically want to kill each other 😆 Also, 11 had better guest characters in my opinion ( I digress but why Ghostface when Warner own Agent Smith, Imortan Joe and Feyd Rautha?). But despite the micro transactions, that I avoid, I respect that NR continue to deliver content that caters to all players and this expansion, if it's like the last one, will be a sizeable addition (although I will wait for a sale personally since I have tons left to do in the base game).

Most complete fighting game in my opinion was Tekken 3 on the PS1 with loads of content for all kinds of players.
