@Dm9982 again, I don't bother with much beyond seeing character endings, finishing the story and sometimes couch competition, and that is usually a fair amount with NR fighters. Tekken and ASW games used to be the same but now seems to focus more on the pro scene which I am not good enough for. I miss the old days of Tekken Force and FMV endings.....
They seemed to patch performance with all of the major updates. I only bought it a couple of months ago on sale but even since then there have been performance improvements and, I think, even texture improvements. I play it in handheld and if that's your bag then it is a perfectly fine version which I think has content parity at this point. And arguably it is surprising that we got a Switch version at all.
I gave the comparison to Arkham Knight because I find it helps if you consider it the "pocket version".
@Dm9982 I am not the best to talk about online aspects since I generally don't bother with them, I just like single player content and local multiplayer (Netherealm being one of the few fighter producers who still seem to value the former). It seems fine to me performance wise and even my untrained eyes have noticed some visual improvements since I picked it up a couple of months ago.
However, as an indication of who you're talking to, I also consider the Switch Arkham Knight to be an almost entirely playable version of a not so great game, so maybe I am not the best reference for performance and graphics.....
@Noelemahc it's pretty decent now, definitely the handheld version but it looks and runs fine and would probably be considered a decent looking PS3 game (and really expecting PS5 parity isn't being realistic). Admittedly I am not a frame rate counter or EVO competitor but to my eyes it ticks the boxes. It is a bit of a hog for the Switch's limited storage options though.
I have fond memories of these games but, as others have already said, from a narrative point of view (which does actually matter in this series) this includes neither the beginning nor the end. Hope they release the others too.
@Olliemar28 I think my comment was unclear, I was just curious if they had announced another Gold Master yet. Some of us were speculating on good options for that when Llamasoft came out (from me Psygnosis, Delfine, Sensible and Cinemaware would be nice if unlikely, System 3 as well but a lot of their stuff is getting its own collection now).
With the Atari 50 stuff it is all good, but I wish they would do some more with their post-80s output, the early Atari consoles and software usually seem to get all the attention
Will surely be picking this up but also wish there was a bit more attention given to some of Atari's later output too. Are Digital Eclipse working on another Gold Master entry.....?
@nessisonett agreed (I think), 0 was a more obvious choice as a more "complete" experience. But I love this series so I hope it does well and broadens the brand.
Undoubtedly a genre classic but I always felt like Revolution's games ended very abruptly. This, Lure of the Temptress and Beneath a Steel Sky included.
Definitely interested in this although age has made the ninja games rather fiddly. I think these were all System 3 games, so maybe these guys have some in on licensing their old games and if so can we get Myth too.....?
As for the VC Last Ninja 3 controversy and withdrawal, as I recall it was actually a poster on this site who blew the whistle on that one. I think the Commodore games being removed was unconnected though and something to do with company issues.
@TheBoilerman Karate Champ (Data East) is pretty similar but the IK games were home games. The weird one is Way of the Exploding Fist which has basically identical assets and gameplay but seemed to share no developers, if anybody knows what the deal was there.....?
@LEGEND_MARIOID yep, Take You For A Ride up to Knock You Out, Capcom Fighters have had some memorable music. Saw a Youtube video years ago of a guy smashing up his car to Guile's Theme.....
@martynstuff I studied IP law ages ago and split rights can be a nightmare, especially if people own specific rights for certain purposes (see some of the fractured ownership for various purposes of some of Tolkein's works)
@Coolmusic thanks, but that's a shame. I have my old disk copy but both that and my old Wii U are currently in a box thousands of miles away. Hopefully this one will sell well and encourage them to at least consider it.
Is Tatsunoko v Capcom tied up in legal rights purgatory? I loved that game and would love to see a rerelease if Capcom are bringing back more of their old classics. And if they do, please give us the animated Japanese endings as well as the extra Western content.
@Tom-Massey fair enough sir! Having just marked a ton of end-of-semester exams and not given one perfect score because I just generally don't I can relate to the reasoning.
I have only played a couple of these but I am not sure that the entry requirements are that high if you just want to enjoy the comicbook spectacle (like me) and I assume there are difficulty sliders but I believe there is a good amount of nuance for the more pro crowd too.
@LadyCharlie hiya, yeah I have heard the term plenty of times but I just personally hate it. I worked in a supermarket for two years and it reminds me of the very unfun scroll of products coming to my scanner! But on a less personal note I just don't feel that the translation works here and does the best of the genre a disservice - brawler or beat 'em up feels so right for the action on screen. Belt scroller sounds more like work than a game
Still looking forward to giving this a go and I am also hoping for a Fighting Collection 1 and 2 bundle so that I can justify picking up Red Earth despite owning the other games through Arcade Stadium.
For the target audience shouldn't this be a 10? There do not seem to be any faults. On a personal level it adds to my lamentation on the death of single player content in fighters (because this has plenty). Can we also get rid of this awful "belt scroller" tag - "beat 'em up" and "brawler" have served us just fine for nearly 40 years now.....
Maybe we will get a regular direct in September with an announcement of a presentation date (in January or something) at the end? I think they did something like that when they first announced TOTK was in development.
At the start of the trailer I was really hoping that when Zelda entered the Still World the gameplay style would switch to be like the 3D Zeldas or something like that. I'm still sure this will be great though.
All these collections have been great, this one included. But please don't JUST port SOTN - we need ROB too (TG16 version, still my favourite CV to date). If there are legal issues around the Requiem collection then maybe upscale the PSP's Dracula X since it included both games and tge remake (plus a prototype if I remember correctly). But if they do a fourth collection, stick Rebirth on there too.
@PinderSchloss exactly, like that awful way some people talk to the elderly as if they're toddlers! If you have played 52 Worldwide Games it's similar there and a reason that I struggle to boot that up even though it's a good filler game (plus it openly insulted my teaching profession). I would actually be quite interested in the history of some of the games there but not as glibly explained by party clowns for babies. With the directs, some of the broadcasts have an 18+ rating too because of the games they're showing so it all feels a bit, well, no thanks.....
The Indie one didn't do much for me (and is anybody else a bit fed up with the overly excited and overly earnest voice presentation and scripting?) but I thought the partner showcase was very good for this stage in the Switch's lifecycle. Happy to see another Castlevania collection, now just port either the Requiem or Dracula X Chronicles one please.....?
Yakuza 0 would have made more sense to me since it is a relatively "contained" experience. This one is also one of the more stripped down entries in the series if I remember correctly too, with not many mini games or arcade games since it is still based on the first game in the series. I think the more recent games might be a bit too demanding or simply large for the current Switch but this is one of my favourite game series so it is good to see it reaching out even further.
I will say it again here because I think my last poat about this got drowned - I did eventually get my download code in place of the missing KOTOR2 DLC. I had to chase them a few times but they were very polite and prompt once the issue with issuing it was identified (their system seems to be misplacing some of the emails for this). Just in case anybody is still after a code.
Your uncles only came up with the idea when they saw me shoot a pigeon with a catapult in Trafalgar Square and it fell on my uncle's head in 1986. He hasn't spoken to me since (my uncle, not the pigeon).
Sad news. I have never been into the Pokemon animes but those of us who have been playing games and watching anime for many years know how much the voice acting industry has improved and talented individuals are now getting the respect they deserve. Best wishes to her family and friends.
@Toastmaster it is possible that I saw a trailer and just didn't notice - I can bearly remember the trailer I saw just a week ago At any rate, this seems like Madame Web - a background movie at best, probably with a bottle or two. But even then I suspect that there are much better uses of my time. Whatever your interests or perspective, movie writing has been down in quality these last few years. If I am questioning motives and logic whilst I am actually watching it (even after those bottles) then there might be a problem
I recently syarted going to the cinema with any regularity again since the end of covid. I didn't even know that this existed until about a week ago. No trailers or advertising, nothing. Plus it doesn't exactly look or sound good, so, hardly surprising.
Nintendo must be coveting a creativity potion somewhere in their offices. I liked this art style in Link's Awakening but I kind of wish they had gone for an original one for this.
This should of happened already really, hopefully this time. I am pretty sure too that this, The Silver Case, NMH and Flower, Sun and Rain are in a loosely shared universe too. And since we have two of those on Switch already.....
Just for information if anybody else tried with this - I recently got my download code in place of the canceled KOTOR2 DLC from Aspyr. You might need to chase them a bit but they did deliver on what they said, just in case any of you have an outstanding claim (they were very polite about it all too)
I hope they get this fixed. I quite like what Pixel Games seem to be trying to do and they have put a few C64 games on the Switch. I miss the VC C64 days - great trips diwn memory lane, many of which held up surprisingly well (oh, abd Mad Doctor if you can please)
I want to get it but probably on sale, the DLC is a bit much which seems normal for Namco Bandai these days. I don't know why they never pirted the Wii U version of Tekken Tag 2 over either. Throw in the first game as a new extra and grab some money.
This has been heavily patched on Switch and is now a pretty decent portable option (my preferred gaming experience these days). Takeda looks like a good new character too with a fairly unique style.
As for the second pass I actually don't want Ghostface (haven't followed Scream in years but isn't the character generally just a normal person in a Halloween costume with no real abilities?). If they go with the MK, DC and licensed route then I would personally like to see Kintaro and Darkseid and then some WB property representation - maybe Immortan Joe (Mad Max), Agent Smith (The Matrix) and Feyd Rautha (Dune). Keeping a sci fi franchise theme.
Also, interesting that MK1 seems to be selling more on Switch than XBox. Just yo throw in - they have patched and updated the Switch version A LOT. It is now an entirely decent version (if you can live with the inevitable downscale)
@FishyS I don't care about online play at all but I loved Mario 35 and they shouldn't have removed it. I might still have NSO if it was still on there.
Hey, you stole my (and a few others' Vanillaware Collection suggestoons!
