Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash is lined up to be a key Holiday title for the Wii U, and Nintendo of America has confirmed its release date in the territory.
As you can see in the tweet below it'll arrive on 20th November in the region.
In the next few months the sporting sequel will be joined in the region - mainly - by titles such as Yoshi's Woolly World and, for those looking for more complexity in their gaming, Xenoblade Chronicles X or perhaps Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water. The main gimmicks in Ultra Smash are dramatic power shots and Mega Mushrooms that bring screen-sized players to unleash mayhem.
This is also coming to Europe on 20th November, so do you plan to pick this up?

Not in North America but i'm still pumped for this game despite the terrible announcement.
So much garbage from Nintendo this Q4
So, do we know if this supports motion controls?
So this is the big holiday title from Nintendo this year? A monotone Mario Tennis game that will probably don't have online multiplayer. Sigh.
Nahh skipping this I'm getting project zero/fatal frame which will keep me busy them xenoblade limited edition so I'm good for the holiday!
Um, yay?
It'll be a good game but I don't expect much content beyond what the other console entries have done (wish they had an optional Mii RPG mode like in Color and Advance). Backlog catchup time (honestly a good thing) for all Nintendo fans until NX.
I really want this game (even if I wasn't too impressed with Open).
But I do wonder... when IS the next Direct? You'd think this type of news would be announced in one...
@Pixel-Perfect According to the Super Mario Wiki there's no motion controls.
The only unknown is Animal Crossing amiibo Festival release date. Any guesses: Nov 6? Nov 13?
Also this game is pretty much just Tennis Open with mushrooms. I'll pass.
I would love to pick this game up but only if it has online play. I'm sure it will just wish they would announce it already.
@BoshiBoy Didn't Open have online multiplayer (although limited to local regions)? Then it would be twisted if this one didn't have the feature.
we need more details Nintendo, a mushroom turning Mario Characters to giants doesn't tell me much. this could reeeealy use a Direct right now.
It's strange, we barely have information or details about this one. I hope it gets better than what I already saw. Hope I gets a better online (just in case it has) than Open, because it is really laggy. I think I'll pass this one, will stick to Yoshi's Woolly World and Xenoblade Chronicles X. For now, I'm waiting for tomorrow, I guess the Super Mario Maker stage for Smash Bros will be out tomorrow, and I hope some more things, but not costumes.
Well at least it isn't getting delayed.
I loved Mario Tennis on GC... played it a ton and was excited for a new/improved version on Wii, which never happened since that installment only added terrible motion controls and didn't allow for proper analog controls... but times have changed and now this seems very lackluster... it should have been included with a Mario Golf entry, even if that was just all of the courses from GC and 3DS upscaled to WiiU visuals... could have called it Mario Country Club... I would be excited about that.
I'm pretty bummed about the lack of motion controls but I'm still going to get it.
@ThomasBW84
PAL release I believe was confirmed a while back when a slew of them was announced, the same date 20/11/15...

Give me an RPG mode and I miiiight maybe buy it.
I'm surprised to see people asking for motion controls. I found Open's normal button scheme good and better. Guess it wouldn't hurt to get the option though...
I'll let Nintendo know if i get their game when they ACTUALLY give out more info on the game.
The motion controls added to the Wii version of Power Tennis were terrible since it did not allow any precise aiming of shots... motion controls could probably be implemented properly, but would need to allow a way to lock your feet, aim with the analog stick, and then swing... I think this might provide a great experience, but it would be fairly complicated for casuals or kids, which defeats the mass appeal of motion controls.
I think it's safe to say that the motion control fad has passed...
I think I'll skip it. Maybe I'll pick it up when it's a Nintendo Select title.
@jjmesa16 I doubt the wiiu will get any select titles
@SuperCharlie78 it may not be your cup of tea but xenoblade and fatal frame are obviously not garbage titles
I'm definitely going to keep an eye on this game, but I still have my doubts. There doesn't seem to be much new to this game other than the mega mushrooms, but I'm sure they will announce some new features before the release. If not, then I'll skip it. But since I like Mario Tennis, I'm down to buy it as long as they add something to keep the game fresh.
Sadly, this one isn't a priority for me either. After playing the wonderful GBA Mario Tennis, I don't think I can play another one without the RPG elements.
@BrizzoUK Ah yes, I remember a load of dates being released, we must have forgotten to update the game page etc, which I'll sort out now. Thanks!
Will wait and see how much it is. I won't be paying $70 for a sports game. Maybe get it at Christmas
Please be good, please be good, please be good...
It's not gonna be good, is it?
@ThomasBW84 No worries. Found it weird when they announced SF Zero for the same day... Didn't last long anyway!
@Pokefanmum82 It's confirmed price is $49.99
@ACK
Tried a demo at their summer tour with some friends, was a good laugh. It isn't going to reinvent anything and I imagine it won't be packed full of modes, but will be a fun local multiplayer I imagine. I've never bought a Mario Tennis so don't have any history with the series, but I'm still marginally looking forward to it; I'll mostly be playing ps4 until this and XCX (well and fatal frame), but the real lack of local multiplayer this winter on all fronts makes this a buy for me.
Better be online or im not buying it. People around my way dont play games anymore.
@AdanVC The last Mario Tennis had Online Multiplayer, I'm certain this one will, too.
@SuperCharlie78 Even setting aside the fact that this game is not "garbage" you do realize Xenoblade Chronicles X is Q4, right?
Well due to the lack of motion controls I'll be passing.
@rjejr To be honest it probably was going to get pushed to early 2016 in NA considering they didn't give it a date during the big release date drop, but then that changed thanks to Star Fox's delay.
I am actually excited for this game!
@3MonthBeef How about all of the great games that have released on the console over the past three years?
I'll get it,I'm not a fan of motion anyways
Not too worried about the Star Fox Zero delay.
Just got Mario Maker yesterday, which should keep me busy for quite some time. Next month I'll be getting Yoshi Yarn, and for christmas, Xenoblade and hopefully Mario Tennis (if it costs $40 bucks...).
AND I still need to get Splatoon!!!
I may get it, but I have other games I need to get first.
I'll play to Power Tennis if I want to play a Mario Tennis game. This game doesn't look very fun to me at all. I hope others enjoy it, though.
There was a time where this would excite me. That was 15-years-ago.
The game has online guys, Nintendo said so at E3. Day one buy for me but they definitely moved up the release date because of the star fox delay.
@capitalism Are you sure?I don't remember ever seeing it be confirmed and there are plenty of articles online with the same concerns as us.Someone posted the link to the game's official page on the forum and there is no mention of online there, whereas the 3DS one it's one of the first things mentioned in the description. All it says for this one is ''play with your friends and family''.I think if online was in there then surely it would be mentioned ,especially as it's not something that's a given with Nintendo.I hope you're right though.
@Ryu_Niiyama I would be enticed to get it if I could use wii remotes but without it? Meh.
Maybe they'll patch it in like Pikmin.
Highly recommend this one!!! Played a demo and it is FANTASTIC fun. Like mario kart...but tennis 😀
@Squidling not in Canada it's not. It's still listed as 69.99 plus tax
I'm hot and cold with Mario Tennis titles. Some feel alright - I'm okay with Open, for instance, but the GCN version seemed to be just waiting for a power shot all the time. This one looked to be even more about what items you get to do something funky. For now, at least, I'll be skipping this one.
Unfortunately I fail to see what this game has to offer...these trailers need to show more!
I've never been very interested in the Mario Sports titles, and this does not look like it's going to reinvent the wheel. I'll wait for the reviews before I even consider picking this up.
I played Mario Tennis on Wii so many nights with my friend. She was a bartender and would come over after bar time for some late night drunken Tennis matches lol. She died at age 26, so all I have is the memories of those Mario Tennis games.
I'll be grabbing this for sure. In fact it's already preordered. Some good games coming in the next few months that's for sure
I thought Mario Golf for 3DS was great, but this looks like such an average and forgettable effort.
@BrizzoUK Thanks for the insight. I know the series is great, the 64 version is still one of the top arcade tennis/sports games around. Problem is, each successive release has shoehorned in obtrusive gimmicks that diminish rather than augment the solid core gameplay. Power shots that pause the action to zoom in are the infamous example.
Now, when I saw the mega mushroom I had great hope that this would be a worthwhile gimmick because it shouldn't disrupt the flow in any way, but what I've seen since has made me doubt that to some degree... Especially considering that it appears to have been added to the numerous other annoying gimmicks rather than replace them..
Many of us are down on the series because we don't have faith in Camelot to keep it simple and fresh. Every game since the MT64 has disappointed largely because they couldn't get out of the way and let the superb gameplay breath. I desperately want this to be the game we've been hoping for, but I think most fans are going to keep their expectations in check...
@ACK Yeah fair enough. TBF, I do feel that Mega Mushroom will be more of hindrance and may essentially make this more party like. So this may not be the advancement needed sadly!
