With rumours about Nintendo’s next big move already running rife, this latest morsel of information will no doubt add some extra fuel to the fire.
Across the US, eagle-eyed individuals have spotted a rather interesting change at local retailers such as Wal-Mart and Target, noting the Wii U & 3DS game library sections have been merged together under one big Nintendo banner. In addition to this are banners of Nintendo’s most iconic characters – all of which appear to have had new artistic makeovers.
The photos also show a white Nintendo logo with a red backing – reportedly to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Mario. However, this has led to speculation that Nintendo may return to a more classic look in the future. The company originally changed its logo from the trademark red to grey in 2008 to support the Wii and DS generation at the time.
Of course, all of this may have absolutely nothing to do with the future plans of Nintendo including their 'NX' device or any upcoming titles, and could potentially just be the company updating its retail image to be as eye-catching as possible this holiday period.
Let us know what you make of these changes in the comments below.

It's weird how it all happened so fast too!
I haven't been in a walmart or target for at least 2 weeks, so this must all be pretty new. I'll have to check it out next time I got shopping. Even if it doesn't signal anything, it still looks very pretty from the photos.
It's also to highlight that Link on that sign is brand new as well. Link never gets renders for generic advertising so this may be huge!
this is clearly a sign that apple bought out nintendo and the pippin is coming back!
Maybe it's just to save shelf space on a company that most people don't care about.
Stores I've been in have had the Wii U/3DS stuff merged into one small section for a while now, simply because it's not worth giving separate shelf space to consoles that don't shift that many games. I mean, Wii U is pretty lucky that it even has shelf space at this point and that you don't have to special order the games.
So yea, this is signalling something, it's signalling that the Wii U isn't popular. Not exactly ground breaking news.
Not too surprising actually. I think they've been doing the same thing with the PlayStation brands under one banner too.
Uh....okay. I wouldn't have given this a second thought had I seen it in a store. Nor would my mind have connected this to the NX. It's just a store redecorating.
Where is this where they have -that- much space dedicated to Nintendo? õ_ô
I mean even at mine they still have two separate spots; one for Wii U and 3DS(though they don't really have much in way of a sign) but dang...ha.
Pretty sure I've seen that done in UK stores for PS too.
Sounds like something that should have happened a long time ago
They're shrinking the shelf space because they have little to offer this holiday and the retailers could use the extra space for PS and XBone. Doom doom DOOOOOOOM!
Good idea! Everyone knows Nintendo but not everyone knows wiiu!😂 red logo looks awesome!
I've never seen a Nintendo display that big since the 90's.Is that normal in the States?
So why is this news-worthy?! I don't get it...
Went to Target and Walmart this morning actually. Both of them are fairly new stores (that part of town didn't have commercial development until a year or two ago). The Walmart didn't have this new display, but Target did. It's a really neat display.
Now, does the display mean anything? Probably not. That being said, them returning to the red logo wouldn't be too much of a surprise. The current grey logo is one of the last things remaining from the whole "sterile doctor's office" vibe they had during the Wii and DS era. I think they're definitely wanting to get away from that.
I think they've realized that their branding of video games is "Nintendo", not "Wii" and "DS".
Now, if you wanted to go with some crazy, wild speculation, you could say that this is hinting at NX being an ecosystem, and that said ecosystem's final name will be "Nintendo" or "The Nintendo".
Branding. Wii U is weak with consumers and 3DS is nearing its end. Simply "Nintendo" surely fortifies their retail space and perhaps preps for a more unified platform message coming soon. Bye bye Wii/DS era!
This will be great for them because EVERYONE knows Nintendo, but not everyone know what their products are called. Should draw the casuals and let them know that nintendo are still around even though their Wii isn't.
They're finally using "Nintendo" to sell the games. Like before, when every game was "a Nintendo".
If this means the stores are purging their slew of shovelware Wii titles, I am all for it!
All Wii, DS family, and Wii U games and merchandise consolidated together under one Nintendo umbrella is still a nice thing thing to see, and a good idea, regardless of the reason.
I really hope they go back to red and grey...
Yeah the UK have had this pretty much since the launch of the wiiU. They're usually pushed to central shelves too without even a banner so you have to look for them between 'hidden object and other pc games' and 'dvds we paid nothing for but people gave us anyway'
Meanwhile in the UK, Asda (who are owned by Wal-Mart) have just recently got rid of their Nintendo section entirely!
That's a HUGE Nintendo display! Is that the same in a lot of American stores?
Gamestops main shop in Dublin got a cheap makeover last week. Looks completely defferent now. The white shelving is all gone, now it's wire shelving for the whole shop and everything is more flat I guess but it makes the shop look twice the size and can fit more PS to the left, Xbox to the right, pc and limited edition box sets down the back and behind that, Nintendo, a low display so you can't see it when looking around unless you are looking for pc or special edition big box games. And it's basically loads of 'sealed' Wii games (self sealed I'm sure) a couple WiiU games and a few 3ds games. Think Nintendo is now more deader in Ireland than the UK. Makes me sad. And the prices for Nintendo in Gamestop, Nintendo are a premium sure, but why do gamestop add €10 or €20 on top of these premium prices?
Ah sure, I buy all my games in smyths or online new, CEX ftw second hand
That display looks great, i wish we had that much selection in Aussie shops
@RainbowGazelle Nothing new there. It's the UK, aren't you surprised?
I think this is just to save space since software for neither machine is selling that well. They probably want to make room for PS4 and Xbone software.
It seems a really wasteful use of space though. People are commenting on how large the display area is, but with the game cases facing front like that and so spread out, there's probably less games there than you'd get on the tiny shelving units Game have their Nintendo stuff on these days. Turn all those games so the spine is facing out and put them together and it would look smaller than even the smallest Nintendo section at a Game.
@RainbowGazelle That is so true, if I want to get physical copies of games I usually have to goto Grainger games. The only store that has a decent selection of Nintendo games on their shop floor.
Bring back the white and red!
I like this. I like the fact it's going back to the classic and iconic red logo (even if it is inverted, which, actually, kinda looks better here). I like that it makes Nintendo's brand much more visible in these stores, rather than just disappearing in among the PlayStation and Xbox stands, which tend to have more space dedicated to them. I just like that it reminds me of the Nintendo from the 80s and 90s, when it totally dominated. Yeah, I like this.
@SanderEvers In my opinion Nintendo actually should just call it's new system the Nintendo Entertainment System 2 (NES2), or the New NES, or something like that. If it were me that's what I'd do, and then I'd just increase the number with future consoles. Much like Sony has been hugely successful doing with the PlayStation brand.
Nintendo has NEVER came up with a better and more appropriate name/moniker for any of its consoles than Nintendo Entertainment System (NES)—it does exactly what it says on the tin.
With it's next console, if the games still come in physical boxes, I might even be tempted to use the iconic red as default on the boxes too, instead of say the grey/white of the Wii or blue of the Wii U. Ya know, give everything one cohesive look and really burn that Nintendo red into people's minds.
Like this kind of thing:
@Raptor78
Grainger Games is a viable option. Now I live in Cheltenham, do I want to go my nearest store 100 miles away? The north south divide is a thing if you remember, and unfortunately the losing side is called GAME, but give it time, I expect a withdrawal from the UK market soon-ish.
If it happened so suddenly and so uniformly across multiple retailers then it's a deliberate strategy by Nintendo. I think this is the first sign of the unified OS, and shows it will be backed up in the retail/marketing side too.
I think it strengthens their brand recognition and it's a very good thing
You used my picture!
WOO!
(first image)
This is what we have all been waiting for!!
Nintendo is about to bring in their cyclone and wipe everyone else out 😀
So Ubisoft, EA and activision can bring their games back to the real gaming King.... Nintendo!!
Honestly, I don't think this means what you think it means, guys. Retailers do it constantly around these parts, DS mixed up with 3DS, Wii and Wii U games. Sometimes even with some Xbox games on the same shelf.
Why? Because Xbox and Nintendo sell poorly here. PlayStation has five times the shelf-space of the other two.
It's not a good thing.
I do like that Nintendo is bringing back it's classic red logo, though. The grey one was so lifeless for an entertainment company.
I want the red and white logo again, the grey is as dead as the Wii now.
I think this fusion is to attract 3DS customers to Wii U bundles, because Wii U is struggling so much and NX won't be here for the holiday season. Perhaps NX will launch November or December next year, so the Wii U life will be four years only, with the lowest sales in Nintendo history -not counting VB which wasn't even released here-. If this failure can bring old Nintendo back, then it's not bad after all.
@Samurai_Goroh
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the store branding is supplied by the company, so it is Nintendo bringing in these changes not the individual stores.
Which is pretty big news because companies don't just do this for no reason - marketing decisions have been made here and it's interesting to figure out why these decisions were made. and what it means for the future. Having unified 'Nintendo' brand definitely supports the oft rumoured (supported by certain facts, like the merging of development teams) unified console.
I think the change in branding signifies changes within the company, which are undoubtedly related to NX. Or it could just be to catch consumer eyes during the Christmas season. Either way, it's a smart change and looks good. It's fun to speculate on these things.
I'm definately intrigued by the new Link render though - the Master Sword looks very different, where did they get this model from?! Could this be Link from Zelda U/NX?
Looks fantastic! I think it's a great idea to bring back that "World of Nintendo" feel of their retail space.
I saw all this in a wal-mart in Florida last month on holiday, and didn't really pay it much attention.
Nintendo's always red, they should stick with it. Psychological red is the dominant colour in marketing and advertising and it IS their identifiable colour.
Sony blue
Xbox green
Nintendo red.
Using white or grey is just asking for people not to notice you, going blue with Wii U was a mistake. Go back to red.
huge selection? The 3DS section alone in my local Saturn is bigger than those combined Nintendo shelves in the pictures above. Including Wii, Wii U and DS it's about 3 times as big, lol (and that's without hardware, accessories and amiibo).
In Canada Walmart has had Wii U and 3DS stuff side by side for over a year now. It means nothing. People see doom and gloom in the simplest things.
I was at Wal-Mart yesterday and nothing seemed to change. At least I didn't notice anything different at all. I'll have to check the next time I'm there as it could be happened overnight I guess.
The story I'm seeing here is in the comment section. It's interesting with all the different opinions about how Nintendo advertises how very, very different everyone's experience is when they go to a retail store.
As much as it may be getting smaller in some places, it could be an issue because of encroaching toys 2 life merchandise from LEGO Dimensions. Just imagine if Nintendo had no Amiibo at this point. Amiibo is so important for Nintendo right now as it heads towards another hardware release of some kind. You need retailer friends for that.
I noticed this the other day at Walmart. I didn't know this was a uniform thing across multiple retail stores, however.
@Captain_Gonru As you've been having that conversation with me, thanks for pointing out the toys to life rationale. At least 3 people above said to make room for more PS4 and Xbox One stuff. Which stuff would that be exactly? Neither of those is rolling in games.
Only one question matters - did they leave space in there for the Wii Mini or is Nintendo finally going to try to get people to upgrade to their BC machine?
Lego Dimensions, Disney Infinity, Skylanders - the crush is on in the video game section of US retailors.
Oh, anybody looking for Bowser Jr. amiibo Toys R Us had a dozen. And the new Skylanders look like they are mass produced in China made out of used candle wax. The last 4 gene all were impressively solid, the Trap masters were awesome, these new ones all suck. McDonald's would be embarrassed to give them away in Happy Meals.
@Mogster (A bit busy now, so I have to be short ;^^).
I am fairly sure that Link is the Link from Twilight Princess due to the face and the way his hair bends :+).
The new signing and consolidation has everything to do with the upcoming holiday season and nothing to do with the NX.
The section in those pictures is a lot bigger than what my Walmart has.
I over heard a Nintendo rep talking about the changes coming a month or so ago in Meijer (Michigan based Walmart). Meijer never even had a Wii U logo and still had everything under Wii so this will be a good change Marketing wise and it is nice to see Nintendo spending the cash to make their products look better
Interesting, more signs of unified platform!
Gee, I wish the Nintendo sections at the stores I go to were that big. Target only ever has maybe half of aisle dedicated to Nintendo video games (the rest are accessories and Amiibo) and most of those are cheap, movie-based 3DS games. The Walmart I go to is smaller, but at least they have a better selection. And GameStop pretty muchs limits Nintendo to a tiny corner in most of the stores I've been to.
@Captain_Gonru - rut roh, you may be right Shaggy, can't find it on the Target website either. Guess I'll have to go check out the clearance section later. Or start shopping at Walmart.
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Nintendo-Wii-Mini-Red-with-Mario-Kart/30913801
BTW, while I was driving my kid to school this morning it dawned on me this will be the Wii U's 4th holiday on shelves, so it is time for the Wii U mini (not to mention the long overdue price drop) in the same red color the Wii Mini used, it would match the new display. Maybe they've been holding off on the price cut announcement until it's announced.
With all the variations the PS4 and X1 have had since their launch 2 years ago Wii U could use a change. Dropping the TVii button isn't exactly a monumental marketing decision. Bright red and $199 though, maybe they could still reach 15 million.
I haven't seen this in my local Walmart (we're slow at everything), and don't have a local Target. I don't see why it would mean anything, really.
I went to Walmart today, and they did change them; we're not as slow as I thought.
@IceClimbers
"sterile doctor's office vibe"
Brilliant! That is a perfect way to describe their image during the Wii/DS generation.
I'm glad they are going back to using the "Nintendo" banner.
@rjejr bright red and $199. I'm with you on the price.
It's an interesting situation where the hardware refresh could be about the GamePad. I don't think it will happen but I'd be tempted if they went and made it more ergonomic so that it feels like holding a pro controller just with your hands spread apart further. They could keep the Wii U itself largely the same hopefully with internals that allow for less expensive components and manufacturing maybe.
Probably not the way they're going of course.
Or maybe they could smooth out the whole thing with better controller, better battery life, and better storage (larger on board or better external hookup) , bundle it with something appropriate (XC?) and keep the price at $300 THEN lower all the previous models to $150 to $190. Now there's a real upsell opportunity and a value option. What do you think?
I didn't see the new signs, but I was in one of my local Wal-Marts this morning. They did finally appear to have figured out how to put the games out correctly, with the Wii U stuff at the top mostly under a New Release banner and the remaining Wii games down below it. The same for the 3DS case.
Also to their credit, they finally got their Skylanders, Disney Infinity, Amiibo area cleaned up and sorted out so that it is almost navigable
@scamander Yea, I'm kinda suprised. Hardware + accessories alone take up more space than what is shown here. Not to mention there is always at least one Wii U and a couple 3DS hooked up for play testing and a nice little space to sit down and play. At least in my Saturn Nintendo equally takes up (if not more) space with XBOX and Playstation stuff, only that Nintendo looks the most welcoming.
@Kirk I agree with the red packaging, it's very nice.
Eh, makes sense. Wii U is pretty much dead in a sense while 3DS is starting to dry up. Better to put them together under one banner so that they can support each other during the final stretch of their life (probably makes it easier for consumers to look around). Maybe instead of having to use stupid and confusing names, most consumers can just start saying: "I'm going to buy my kid a Nintendo for Christmas" again after so many years.
Anyway, really would love to see them go back to red. The grey change seemed too......corporate.
I asked a person working at Wal-Mart about it, and he just said Nintendo wanted there displays updated, nothing more. i also find that the 3ds and Wii U games are all together just cause the lack of Wii U games
Retailers are smashing all the Nintendo stuff onto one shelf to free up space for other stuff that will sell better than the WiiU stuff will....
Or you can spin it like you did.
I love Nintendo but the writing is on the wall - they are losing shelf space, but in a very artistic way.
Slow news day
Wow more "no news" for today! Is this really a big deal? All the Sony stuff is together already.....so is the Microsoft stuff. What other options do stores have when the NFC figures take up full rows? DI, Amiibo, Skylands, & now Lego; they demand more space because they sell.
I'm guessing not a lot of people here are old enough to remember "World of Nintendo".
That's how the Nintendo display cabinets were branded back in the day, as I remember, with NES, SNES and Game Boy games.
In Mexico, department stores like Liverpool and games retailers like Gameplanet have merged all the Wii U, 3DS and amiibo products into one banner though is not the one in red (which I love by the way). Thanks to amiibo popularity Nintendo has more room in the Mexicans stores.
Good idea. Nintendo is a powerful brand.
I haven't been to Walmart and Target in awhile,I'll have to check it out
@aaronsullivan I think that the lousy low res resistive touch screen on the Gamepad should cost about 20 cents to manufacture. Have you seen the $50 Fire? I wouldn't buy that either b/c even that screen is low res, though I think still 4x the Gamepad. Probably better innards too.
http://smile.amazon.com/Fire-Display-Wi-Fi-GB-Special/dp/B00TSUGXKE/ref=sr_tr_sr_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1443188703&sr=8-1&keywords=fire
And the Wii U innards, is that still made up of 15 year old Gamecube parts?
But the problem is. I think, that Nitnedo probably signed a manufacturing contract for 12 -15 million units per year for 3 years, 36-45 mil over 3 years would be slightly less than Wii numbers. But they've only sold 10 mil, which were probably almost all manufactured the first year when the parts still cost something. So Nintneod isn't saving any money by making new Wii U w/ cheaper parts b/c they aren't getting cheaper parts, they are selling 3 year old consoles w/ the orignal manufacturing costs. Had they been making 10 mil new units every year they could probably be made for half that, but I don't think they are making any more. And even if they were, you aren't going to get the cheap bulk price on 1 mil per year like you would on 10 mil units per year.
So they can't lower the price, b/c there are no savings to be had.
I still think they should, and make up the loss in SSB DLC and amiibo sales, but I doubt the Wii U costs any less to make now than it did then b/c of lack of sales.
"All of [the characters] appear to have had new artistic makeovers."
Not... really.
At a lot stores they have always been right next to each other. I won't do the ... cause that's a ***** move.
Makes a lot of sense. Both Nintendo and Playstation were using blue. Xbox stuck out my comparison in green, and it makes sense for Nintendo to go with red. A minor thing, though.
@Tao
While I agree that the wii U is lucky to still have shelf space... (it's sad) ... but there's still 10,000,000 people out there who want games for it... expect mario maker to sell a bunch this season.
@XCWarrior @Peach64
If this was just in multiple locations of one retail chain, then I'd be inclined to agree. However, this is across multiple retail chains. Walmart, Target, and Gamestop are all doing this, and I'm sure Best Buy and Toys R Us will be doing it too. This is a deliberate marketing move by Nintendo. So yes, this is a good thing.
@Captain_Gonru Actually, the Target I went into yesterday had very little shelf space for Lego Dimensions. That stuff was pushed into one tiny section on the end of a shelf instead of a healthy section on one of the sides. There wasn't even a demo display unit for it, although I don't remember there being one for Skylanders either. Disney Infinity 3.0 and amiibo both had demo display units though.
Interestingly enough, the only system that had a demo unit was the 3DS with a copy of Smash. The only thing that seemed to have actually lost shelf space was the Nintendo accessories (not amiibo). As far as amiibo goes, they had some Olimar and Dr Mario in stock still, as well as one Zero Suit Samus that I bought. I didn't see any DS games and very few Wii games on the shelves.
The Walmart I went into had a few Wii games left - Smash Bros Brawl, FIFA 15, Mario Kart Wii, Just Dance, and Metroid Other M (which is apparently still $50 for some reason).
I'd love to see the old red Nintendo come back, I was gutted when they changed to the grey. Although I'm used to it now, it doesn't look half as nice..
I have to say as well... I really missed the days where Nintendo flaunted their logo in red... for 10 years now the nintendo brand was backseat to Wii and DS...
It was never the Nintendo Wii ... it was always referred to as "The Wii"
I'm looking at this as a good thing. ALSO ... This could have something to do with Nintendo's internal restructuring and merging of handheld and console divisions. Makes sense to portray that even down through the retail space
@Captain_Gonru - ""bigger hard drive""
From the "better me than them" dept - Wii U doesn't have a HDD, it has internal storage, but yeah, bigger would be better, 64B and 128GB models would be a start. But as my overly long rant to aaron explained - they are probably still selling the same 12 mil units they built in year 1, so no new nuthin.
And your talk of kids isn't helping my sending in my job application to Target any.
Here's my day - ordered inflatable dragon online to pick up at nearby Lowe's. About an hour later phone call tells me their system says 1 in stock, but they can't find it. There is 1 at another store 20 minutes they will hold for me under a desk. Start building a display for my kids 4' banner we bought him for his party. But the banner is only 3', not 4', need to bring the wrong size back to store and wait while they make me the size I ordered and paid for. And my party coordinator is out sick, seemingly indefinitely, so I have to deal w/ that, and no high chairs for the 3 infants. Wonderful. I need to start drinking w/ BLPs.
@Maggots Yea, people still want games for it but the amount of people going into any one store to buy games for it is pretty low.
I mean, 10mil isn't something for anybody to turn their nose up at, but that's 10 mil spread across the globe, which isn't really enough people per area for game stores to really bother.
@Noonch @Tao This shelf space is much bigger than my local Wal-Mart and Target's Wii U and 3DS section. If it was for saving money, why would they create brand new renders for the characters.
It is a smart move for Nintendo to market primarily with the Nintendo brand rather than the names of individual systems. It does not necessarily mean anything beyond that.
@amiiboacid True, the shelf space in that picture is overall bigger than in any store I've been into. Nintendo is lucky to even get a full shelf!
Maybe it's a store that gets more Nintendo custom? Even with Nintendo lagging behind in popularity, I imagine there's still some places with higher Nintendo fandom.
As for the renders, who knows? Maybe it's to make it all stand out now that the shelf space has been merged, rather than a small area rotting in the corner ignored by all except those who already know of it? Maybe stand out altogether in hopes that people will actually take note of Nintendo since it's grey/white advertising clearly wasn't working.
I know most stores have the Xbox and Playstation stuff in eyecatching bright green/blue, so Nintendo could just be trying to finally match that.
@Tao Actually, game companies like Nintendo pay for the shelf space. I used to work at Toys R Us and this was the case there. Once a month or so, a Nintendo Rep would stop by the store and make sure that the shelf areas paid for by Nintendo only contained Nintendo products. He also set up all the displays. So this is something that Nintendo decided to do and not a retailer decision.
@rjejr
slides a bottle across I went out drinking for the first time and wound up throwing up everywhere. It's not something I ever want to do again but hey, old habits eh. How these Cyber evenings fly.
I love how these Nintendo rumors and hype mimics that of Apple stuff! Nintendo has such a great community and it's great to be a part of it all.
Really? Where I live, the Nintendo part of the store has had handheld and home console stuff together like... since the Gamecube and GBA. This doesn't mean anything, its simply redecorating. If you want a second meaning, lots of people have already said it - the Nintendo brand is stronger in marketing than either "Wii U" or "3DS".
The rumours about the NX are getting ridiculous at this point in time, really.
slow news day i see.
@rjejr @Captain_Gonru
You guys are cracking me up.
Good point about still selling the original merchandise, but really it doesn't help just sitting on shelves or warehouses. At this point, they will make more money if sold at a loss. Probably screws up my plan though.
Although the architecture of the Wii U is similar to the GameCube the actual hardware is all new. That's my understanding anyway. The savings comes from the speed that's trying to be met being easy to do with older process_es_... not process_ors_.
As for the GamePad screen I think they made the right compromise on resolution considering the need to stream with low latency and resistive plus stylus does give it an advantage in some situations... though I'd have liked a more sensitive touch screen for finger presses in general. (That stuff we take for granted in smart phones and tablets gets pretty expensive when you try to do things like removing the compromises of the different types of touch. )
Amazon is selling ad-serving and store-selling machines specifically tuned to direct you to their other services with those tablets. I'm guessing they are taking a loss on each one. Plus, they are sorta bad, to boot, as you suggest.
I had two target employees waiting in line once for MM and amiibo in the morning (at a Target) and someone comes out to let about 6 of us in. Of course, this person didn't do "the speech" about walking single file to the back or anything so the guy that just arrived makes a beeline to the back and gets first dibs.
And this might sound plausible to you: The guy that wasn't working and in line had to tell the person behind the counter to give out the MM rubik's cube with MM purchases.
If you do work at Target, @rjejr please be the guy that fixes that kinda bull.
I noticed this at the local Wally World last week.
@aaronsullivan Not saying the Gamepad screen is bad for what it does, just saying it isn't the most expensive high tech piece of kit available to purchase right now.
And I do need to save Target from itself this holiday.
This is how I imagine @Captain_Gonru and I discussing Nitneod news.
I've yet to see this redesign in my local stores like Best Buy and Gamestop. It does remind me of how Toys R' Us back in the 1990s used to group games together by big company signs and aisles. The Nintendo aisle had everything NES, SNES, Game Boy, and N64 related under it. Likewise with Sega and Sony. Toys R' Us really went downhill in the 00's, in terms of target audience and design... It's a kids store, they shouldn't be selling Watch Dogs, Call of Duty, and Grand Theft Auto in there... Even if they are locked behind glass doors.
That also reminds me, Toys R' Us used to have a relatively unused method of picking up your games, where you chose from tickets that resided on the shelves. The number of tickets indicated the number of copies available. No tickets, no stock. The customer would take any ticket they chose to the cashier, pay for it, then go turn in the ticket at a back room storage window.
@OorWullie Yes, it has been a relatively common practice in big US retailers since the late 80s to utilize large, colorful displays to attract gamers to the video game aisles.
@Henmii It's news worthy because Nintendo's marketing and retailer organization over the past few years has been absolutely ABYSMAL; and this gradual return to how Nintendo was displayed back in the 80s/90s, their glory days, is a signifier of at least some kind of return to form.
I the UK if you're lucky enough to find a Nintendo section it'll be both consoles combined. Same with PS4 and Vita (though you'll have to be even luckier to get any Vita stuff).
Doesn't mean anything. Though I think Nintendo would be smart to go back to naming things 'Nintendo'.
@Volcanox - "and wound up throwing up everywhere" amateur
It actually kinda makes the section more noticeable so I'm fine with this change. I look forward to seeing this the next time I go somewhere.
Walmart in the UK as known as asda has stopped stocking any nintendo products. Which is poop.
I always felt like they needed to give names to the sections they have.
Nintendo Game section. Sony Game section, Microsoft Game section.
I wish news sites like IGN would do that... stop having a 3DS and a Wii U section and just go with a Nintendo section.. it's kinda silly.
Ah well, rather come here anyhow.
I remember a Best Buy back in the old days of the 16 bit and 32 bit era where they had these massive displays of Mario and Sonic signifying the aisles where the SEGA stuff was and where the Nintendo stuff was.
that's news because what?
@RainbowGazelle yeah that's true!
This will never happen at Best Buy. Sadly, they have only half an aisle for Nintendo products.
