It's that time again as details are confirmed for the Nintendo Download Update in North America. This week brings some highly promising and anticipated releases on the Wii U eShop, with plenty of Nindies pitching in with their latest efforts. In addition the 3DS has a big-name release at retail, while there are a host of discounts available. Let's get to the details.

Missed the European Nintendo Download update details? Sweat not, the information you need is right here.

Wii U eShop

Extreme Exorcism (Ripstone, $12.99, 15% off with Nindies@Home E3 demo) - With a demo previously available as part of the Nindies@Home promotion, this revolves around fast-paced action, with the twist being that when you clear out a crowned ghost in a level the next stage will feature a ghost mimicking your previous moves. As a result each set of stages necessitates good memory, planning and skill to progress. There'll apparently be over 20 weapons, 50 challenges, a story-based mode and local multiplayer options for up to four players. We enjoyed this a great deal in our Extreme Exorcism review.

Nova-111 (Curve Digital, $10.99) - Founded by two former Q-Games (the studio behind the PixelJunk series, Star Fox Command, Star Fox 64 3D) staffers - Eddie Lee and Kalin - Nova-111 is a unique fusion of real time strategy and turn-based puzzle-solving. It takes place over 60 levels and involves saving 111 scientists lost in a time vortex. You can upgrade your ship as you go, which will help to deal with the increasingly dangerous alien forces that you encounter. We'll get cracking on a review.

STARWHAL (Breakfall, $11.99) - An intense and chaotic multiplayer title, the Wii U version includes an exclusive new 5 player mode. This mode titled "Blastopus" involves players fighting against each other, and adds a fifth player to the action with the assistance of the Wii U GamePad. We'll gather some friends for some underwater sort-of sword fighting and bring a review.

Beatbuddy (Threaks, $8.99) - With its title shortened since its initial announcement, this is a music action-adventure game that has an emphasis on rhythm — some moves and key moments need to be timed to the beat. It includes music contributions from Austin Wintory — composer of the Journey official soundtrack — among many others; despite some issues we gave this a modest recommendation in our Beatbuddy review.

Job the Leprechaun (Herrero Games, $2.99) - This peculiarly-named game is a retro platformer, with what seems to be single-screen stages in which you collect clovers, find the door and dodge enemies. We're not sure what else to say, but will get into a review soon.

Hold Your Fire: A Game About Responsibility (Alkterios Games, $1.99) - A rather peculiar premise, this is a space-based shmup where you need to be careful about your actions; for example a stray shot may kill a civilian. We'll blast off for a review.

Wii U Virtual Console

The Ignition Factor (HAMSTER Co., $7.99) - If you're a fan of fire-fighting sims but want a retro flavour to the action, perhaps this SNES title is for you. You tackle blazes in a host of environments (there are eight stages to clear) while mastering fairly unconventional controls. We'll douse the flames in a fresh review, but in the meantime you can check out our Wii Virtual Console The Ignition Factor review.
