Re: Delays With The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Due to Physics Engine and Dual Release Decision

Varoennauraa

I am happy for the delay. This one looks like its going to be worth the wait.

And I want NX to be an evolution of GamePad.

I am not going to go back to last gen controls. I want more emphasis on developement of input devices, than graphics. (And what comes to processing power, I would prefer better CPU instead of loading most eggs to the GPU basket)

If the NX doesn't at least have gyro, I'm going full VR(+PC strategy games of course). Gyro in Splatoon is one example of compelling use of the GamePad, and it makes it easier to not only aim faster, but also keep track of surroundings for me. The team work and awareness of the situation in the map wouldn't work without the GamePad either. The Splatoon wouldn't exists without the GamePad. It's my favorite online shooter, and I want nothing more, than next gen Splatoon, and I would hate to see it downgraded for last gen controls that "just works". "Just works" is not enough for me.

And it's not only about the speed and precission. I just like the feeling of direct control of direction more than the indirect nature of the last gen controls(where you can only control the speed of your turning with limited range of movement.) The direct controls makes me feel more direct connection with the game character.

Even when the GamePad wasn't regularly put to good use, having a screen in the controller is affordable way of adding tons of all kinds of functionality. Next iteration might not be limited to only one player having the screen, thus allowing independed movement for each player in next NSMB for just one example.

Re: Rumour Buster: Let's Have A Good Look At That "Leaked" NX Controller

Varoennauraa

@Zanark

I immediately liked the idea of the free form screen, as you can make a handheld device with controllers to have much bigger screen.

It is easy to try yourself. I cut that shape from cardboard, and the area that is obscured by your thumbs is very small, and is in peripheral vision anyway.

The area between the analog controllers is as big as the Wii U screen, but the extra peripheral vision makes it look massive and makes a handheld experience that much closer to a home console experience. This fan made video demonstrates it quite nicely:
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=udkU101fFOk

I don't like the dea of having only virtual controls, but virtual controls, that are aided by physical buttons is ideal in my opinion, as virtual controls can be anything from just buttons to sliders. Also having a physical reference point next to virtual controls help to use them more reliably.

Re: Rumour Buster: Let's Have A Good Look At That "Leaked" NX Controller

Varoennauraa

I took some rough measurements from it while assuming, that the analog controllers would be the same size as the Wii U controllers, and cut that shape from cardboard.

Even this cardboard gizmo feels AMAZING in hand, and the screen between the controllers would be ca. same size as in the GamePad. In practice the screen looks humongous, as the peripheral vision would expand so far. And the thumbs would cover very little of the peripheral vision as well.

It would also be small enough to fit in breast pocket.

If those A and B buttons were physical(only transparent...idk, if it's possible) they would be placed very elegantly.

The virtual buttons might be controlled much more reliably, as you have a physical reference point in the analog controller.

The virtual buttons would only cover the peripheral vision, and also all kind of information clutter could also be placed into the peripheral vision.

I would prefer this screen to a rectangular, and while it would be difficult to market, it makes sense as soon as you hold it in your hand.

Re: Rumour Buster: Let's Have A Good Look At That "Leaked" NX Controller

Varoennauraa

@andrew20 Doesn't this look like a GBA from future though? Only with extra screen space. If the extra peripheral vision doesn't cost too much, why would you have smaller rectangular screen?

Also, Virtual controls doesn't have to be bad(IF there are physical buttons, of course), as not all controls are mere on/off switches. Virtual controls can be sliders, or what ever contraptions your game design might need.

Re: Rumour Buster: Let's Have A Good Look At That "Leaked" NX Controller

Varoennauraa

Yikes! I would LOVE if it is something like this!!!

The point of freeform screen:
-The area between the controllers is roughly as big as in GamePad
-While the device is still being roughly pocket-able
-The extra screen area is for easily accessible context sensitive controls, while still offering peripheral vision
-Those buttons could be physical
-I want to caress my self with that Snesish shape

Re: Carnegie Mellon Professor Thinks Nintendo Is Working On A Fully-Mobile Virtual Reality Headset

Varoennauraa

On the other hand VR is not something, that you would expect from Nintendo at this point, as it is so expensive, that even the most expensive solutions still have some impracticalities(like wires).

But then again, with the rumored near console power handheld(which I am not holding my breath for) they might already have some of the VR stuff in the bag.

They could be working with something GearVR like, where you slip the handheld NX in. They might even be able to come up with affordable VR controllers, as they are kind of pioneers on that field.

I could even prefer a wireless VR solution, which on other hand might not be quite as high end, but was cheap enough for multiplayer and also have "zero" latency VR controllers in the package.

I'm not expecting Nintendo VR...but man, I would pay almost anything to play Metroid Prime in VR.

Re: Splatoon Has Now Shipped One Million Copies In Europe

Varoennauraa

Splatoon is a home run of game design. Brilliant work!!!

I would buy Wii U just for splatoon, if I didn't already have it. I have never been this addicted to an online game.

And I wish, that Splatoon 2 is NX launch game.
Regional servers, local multiplayer(with handheld for each person), perhaps 3 team matches. And I don't necessarily demand voce chat, if it eats bandwidth.

Re: Poll: Are You Excited About Minecraft: Wii U Edition, Or Is It Too Late?

Varoennauraa

A good game is never late and I would pay good money for a good game.

But I don't even download free games, if(/when) they are not good.

If this had a good use for GamePad, like:
-GamePad Co op,
-Drawing textures with stylus and
-Amibo support,
I would pay even more, than 30€.

This far I have a feeling, that this is both too late and too expensive.

Re: Some Western Splatoon Players Would Prefer Not To Compete With Japan

Varoennauraa

Why not asking to have a better game instead of asking the players get better?

Getting better at the game does NOT fix the lag, and does NOT help either if you are already dead in your opponents view before you even see them.

There have been many Nintendo games, that have the option for regional and world wide games. Why do you think they had the option?

The games with regional servers are MUCH more enjoyable. Can I please have a regional server?

Re: Nintendo Is Licensing Hudson Soft IP From Konami

Varoennauraa

Nintendo! Save the BomberMan and get Goemon while at it! Konami is sitting on them and they are dying.

I need at least 1 Bomber Man per console and Wii U would be very good platform for Bomber Man.

There is nothing I want more, than a new Goemon game. And Goemon should be on Smash Bros.

Re: If Nintendo Did Decide To Make A Smartphone, We'd Want It To Look Like This

Varoennauraa

I love the Game Boyish look, but the designer is thinking inside of the wrong box.

I would at least cram shoulder buttons there, and the controllers in this mockup are unusable. You would also have hard time reachng the touchscreen.

But most of all, I am a bit of Android Phobic what comes to games, because I am afraid of latency. Nintendo is very particular about low latencies, and I believe Wii U's hardware is built to induce as little latency as possible.

Re: Tomonobu Itagaki Explains Why the Pro Controller Trumps the GamePad in Devil's Third

Varoennauraa

"There's some differences for which I have not been accustomed to, and also new functionality which I was incapable of using creatively so it is worse.

I also wasted nearly 10 years for making rather bad looking game, so I guess I need to find a scape goat. Fortunately Wii U is very unpopular so saying something populist on social media will surely get my fans symphatizing me, even if VR is absolutely certainly going to make immediate controls popular in near future, despite Nintendo stigma."

Re: Tomonobu Itagaki Explains Why the Pro Controller Trumps the GamePad in Devil's Third

Varoennauraa

"1. Four face buttons are positioned overcrowding. So you easily press the wrong button. In that case, you will die."

I never press a wrong button with GamePad, you might just be very accustomed with old fashioned controllers.

"2. Distance of two analog sticks, are too far apart. So it's quite difficult for u to feel/grasp the battlefield."

This is just stupid. Play Splatoon. It is a game, "where grasping the play field" is more important than usual, and I believe that the game would be a lot less speedy, if you played it with old fashioned controller. And it has nothing to do with the distance between the analog controllers.

"3. Devil's Third is a game you play a long time. The standard Tab-controller is too heavy for such use."

My favorite games are all games, that I play for a long time, and to me it is most comfortable to play them with the GamePad. How weak are you?

The reasoning is so weak, that I lost all my appetite for this game.

Re: Tomonobu Itagaki Explains Why the Pro Controller Trumps the GamePad in Devil's Third

Varoennauraa

You could of course have taken that auto aim away and put gyro option there instead and make it even speedier. Let's see if the game is even half as speedy as Splatoon.

Those "reasons" are quite awkward to hear from a game developer, and tell more about Itagaki's habbits, as well as his capabilities as a game developer using the hardwares specialities in creating as exciting gameplay challenges as possible.

Re: Ubisoft's Former Wii U Exclusive ZombiU Confirmed For PS4 & Xbox One Release

Varoennauraa

I'm sure it will be amazing even without GamePad. I don't think the GamePad features were THAT irreplaceable, although, after being spoiled with the GamePad features, I would still probably buy the Wii U version. Buy it today, or buy later, I just hope, that we could have more Zombi (U).

But even more I am hoping, that Wii U would get just one FPS adventure, that was made for gyro controls and also have enemies tuned for gyro as well, meaning a lot more faster and aggressive enemies leading to even more scary games.

Re: Hands On: Logging More Flight Time With Star Fox Zero

Varoennauraa

Star Fox is my game of the E3.

Its graphics looks mixed so far for sure, but as some levels actually look very nice, I have a feeling that some levels were quickly made for prototyping purposes. And even in the "classic" Star Fox 1st level, the fluid controls made it look good in my eyes; its immediacy makes me want to play it more, than anything else out of Virtual Reality games.

Re: Nintendo Says That Star Fox Zero's Gyro Controls Can Be Turned Off

Varoennauraa

@BigBabyPeach I hope they are. And it goes other way too:
RE4 for Wii was game breakingly easy even with the unlockable difficulty level.

I hope the developers are not holding back when creating challenges for immediate controllers. Now, that we have finer, immediate control available in games, I hope it is used, and demanded, and not have watered down experiences because of popular demand of sticking with 80's controller hardware.
