No. It's not a conspiracy to grab all the money from the people of the world; It's the only way to do it.
I don't have money yet to buy Switch to every one in house hold either, but I am able to play it with my friends at least.
And I love it. It is better game this way.
I would already let split screen die in all 3D games, including Mario Kart, if I could have wireless play instead. In fact, I would even prefer wireless mode in 2D games if I could have my own screen and thus be able to move indepentently, to get down from the pipes in New Mario for example, without having to drag every one with me.
Multiplayer in 2D Marios were crowded because everyone had to fit in one screen, and if some one had to rush forward, everyone had to immediately follow even if they weren't ready. Even New Mario would immensely benefit from local wireless mode, and could create new gameplay mechanics, puzzles, and game modes, if players just could move freely by having their own screens. And the game just feels more exciting, when your own screen gives you independency and some privacy.
This is something, that I expected from Wii U, but it didn't quite have the horse power, and the rare exceptions, mostly Lego games, that had this, suffered from slow downs. In Switches case the problem is solved, because each player naturally have their own processors and gpus.
There are plenty of games for single console couch gaming, but only very few for wireless play. Please: keep 'em coming, even if you have to let split screen go.
And there will be new models down the line. I wouldn't be surprised, if they released a screenless, TV only console for, say, $199.
Your mates obviously buy their own consoles, and because Switch is easy to take with, you can have multiplayer games, where each player can have their own screens. A big and long waited step up from split screen in console gaming fot me.
I hope every FPS would scrap the split screen and use wireless mode instead. There are other consoles for split screen, but this is Switches killer feature to me.
Blue Shell would serve its purpose better, if it was slightly easier to dodge, but travelled on surface of the road and would have a possibility to hit any player in its path.
Currently it doesn't help last players staying in the competition. It only helps the second player win the race.
Absolutely NO port for Smash and Mario Maker. These need new games really fast!
If they could some how come up with passable stylus solution, I would LOVE to see new Art Academy, and even buy a port, but I doubt there is a practical stylus solution.
I missed Tokio Mirage Story and Paper Mario, and would like play them on a Switch.
What!?!?! What a stunning surprise!!!! The first is one of my favorite games!!!! Suddenly I got so impatient, that it hurts.
Yeah, the Heist was refreshing concept and fantastic game, but digging never gets old, and the first one left huge urge to dig some more. Hopefully this is longer game. I dug the first one in couple of sessions.
I liked this presentation a lot generally, but considering the success and the resulting diversity of the library of the Wii U, they should have secured at least ONE FPS game for the big presentation.
I am very excited of the Joy Cons though.
Just one game too few(and "you'll see it later" is not good enough after Wii U; we cannot be certain about anything. They should try harder and show games now as well as later)
I am happy for the delay. This one looks like its going to be worth the wait.
And I want NX to be an evolution of GamePad.
I am not going to go back to last gen controls. I want more emphasis on developement of input devices, than graphics. (And what comes to processing power, I would prefer better CPU instead of loading most eggs to the GPU basket)
If the NX doesn't at least have gyro, I'm going full VR(+PC strategy games of course). Gyro in Splatoon is one example of compelling use of the GamePad, and it makes it easier to not only aim faster, but also keep track of surroundings for me. The team work and awareness of the situation in the map wouldn't work without the GamePad either. The Splatoon wouldn't exists without the GamePad. It's my favorite online shooter, and I want nothing more, than next gen Splatoon, and I would hate to see it downgraded for last gen controls that "just works". "Just works" is not enough for me.
And it's not only about the speed and precission. I just like the feeling of direct control of direction more than the indirect nature of the last gen controls(where you can only control the speed of your turning with limited range of movement.) The direct controls makes me feel more direct connection with the game character.
Even when the GamePad wasn't regularly put to good use, having a screen in the controller is affordable way of adding tons of all kinds of functionality. Next iteration might not be limited to only one player having the screen, thus allowing independed movement for each player in next NSMB for just one example.
I immediately liked the idea of the free form screen, as you can make a handheld device with controllers to have much bigger screen.
It is easy to try yourself. I cut that shape from cardboard, and the area that is obscured by your thumbs is very small, and is in peripheral vision anyway.
The area between the analog controllers is as big as the Wii U screen, but the extra peripheral vision makes it look massive and makes a handheld experience that much closer to a home console experience. This fan made video demonstrates it quite nicely: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=udkU101fFOk
I don't like the dea of having only virtual controls, but virtual controls, that are aided by physical buttons is ideal in my opinion, as virtual controls can be anything from just buttons to sliders. Also having a physical reference point next to virtual controls help to use them more reliably.
I'm not thinking, that this leak is real, BUT it is NOT unergonomic. I cut that shape from cardboard for pondering the design and concept in practice, and it is very pleasant to hold.
I took some rough measurements from it while assuming, that the analog controllers would be the same size as the Wii U controllers, and cut that shape from cardboard.
Even this cardboard gizmo feels AMAZING in hand, and the screen between the controllers would be ca. same size as in the GamePad. In practice the screen looks humongous, as the peripheral vision would expand so far. And the thumbs would cover very little of the peripheral vision as well.
It would also be small enough to fit in breast pocket.
If those A and B buttons were physical(only transparent...idk, if it's possible) they would be placed very elegantly.
The virtual buttons might be controlled much more reliably, as you have a physical reference point in the analog controller.
The virtual buttons would only cover the peripheral vision, and also all kind of information clutter could also be placed into the peripheral vision.
I would prefer this screen to a rectangular, and while it would be difficult to market, it makes sense as soon as you hold it in your hand.
@andrew20 Doesn't this look like a GBA from future though? Only with extra screen space. If the extra peripheral vision doesn't cost too much, why would you have smaller rectangular screen?
Also, Virtual controls doesn't have to be bad(IF there are physical buttons, of course), as not all controls are mere on/off switches. Virtual controls can be sliders, or what ever contraptions your game design might need.
Yikes! I would LOVE if it is something like this!!!
The point of freeform screen:
-The area between the controllers is roughly as big as in GamePad
-While the device is still being roughly pocket-able
-The extra screen area is for easily accessible context sensitive controls, while still offering peripheral vision
-Those buttons could be physical
-I want to caress my self with that Snesish shape
On the other hand VR is not something, that you would expect from Nintendo at this point, as it is so expensive, that even the most expensive solutions still have some impracticalities(like wires).
But then again, with the rumored near console power handheld(which I am not holding my breath for) they might already have some of the VR stuff in the bag.
They could be working with something GearVR like, where you slip the handheld NX in. They might even be able to come up with affordable VR controllers, as they are kind of pioneers on that field.
I could even prefer a wireless VR solution, which on other hand might not be quite as high end, but was cheap enough for multiplayer and also have "zero" latency VR controllers in the package.
I'm not expecting Nintendo VR...but man, I would pay almost anything to play Metroid Prime in VR.
Splatoon is a home run of game design. Brilliant work!!!
I would buy Wii U just for splatoon, if I didn't already have it. I have never been this addicted to an online game.
And I wish, that Splatoon 2 is NX launch game. Regional servers, local multiplayer(with handheld for each person), perhaps 3 team matches. And I don't necessarily demand voce chat, if it eats bandwidth.
Rayman Legends is not only one of the best platformers ever, the Wii U version is also one of the best CO-OP games ever. The GamePad implementations are very clever.

Just give me the wireless multiplayer for every game! For me it is the Switches best feature.
Re: Resident Evil Revelations 1 & 2 Are Coming To Switch Later This Year
If the Rev2 has wireless co-op(in addition to gyro), I will buy many copies at high price!!!
Re: Resident Evil Revelations 1 & 2 Are Coming To Switch Later This Year
Yeah, I hope this is not another test.
I don't think there will be that many people, who are interested on Revelations and didn't buy them when they were new.
But gyro aiming would make me downright pumped.
Re: Resident Evil Revelations 1 & 2 Are Coming To Switch Later This Year
Please let there be gyro aiming option!!!!
I didin't buy it for Wii U because I waited for gyro aiming update.

I mean, it's not possible to cram everything in every game, there just is not time to do everything.
I am glad, that I can get at least one game with wireless mode, and I hope we start seeing more.
It has to start somewhere.
Re: Talking Point: Splatoon 2's Salmon Run Shows Off the Switch's Local Multiplayer Strengths
@bolt05
I am all for options as well. o/
But new things must start somewhere, and most oftenly it is not possible to cram everything in.
I don't only want new games, I want new kinds of games. Can you blame my kids for wanting new kinds of games?

Re: Talking Point: Splatoon 2's Salmon Run Shows Off the Switch's Local Multiplayer Strengths
@bolt05
Yes! After playing in PC lan parties, the split screen felt like a consolation mode to me anyway, and it ruined FPS and 3rd person games.
If making split screen mode eats any developer resources, I would rather have more downloadable hats.
For me, this is higher level local multiplayer, more like a lan party, but a lot more convenient.
Finally!!! I have waited this for decades, and now its true!!! Hahaaa! o/
Die split screen!!!

I agree with Miyamoto and have tested it on many children as well.
They are amazed by it and instinctively play it very well.
And not surprisingly, when some of them wanted to see old Star Foxes, they were VERY frustrated with the rigidness of the last gen controls.

A good game is never late and I would pay good money for a good game.
But I don't even download free games, if(/when) they are not good.
If this had a good use for GamePad, like:
-GamePad Co op,
-Drawing textures with stylus and
-Amibo support,
I would pay even more, than 30€.
This far I have a feeling, that this is both too late and too expensive.

3. Amibo support

45. Inventory
Re: Minecraft on Wii U Won't Feature Inventory Management on the GamePad Screen
GamePad co op would be better feature anyway...but it doesn't sound like it has that either.
I hope Nintendo didn't pay much for this.
