Bandai Namco has revealed today that its free-to-play Wii U eShop title Project Treasure has a new name: Lost Reavers.
As if a name change wasn't enough, the publisher has also stated that the Japanese version of the game will enter a phase of public beta testing in the next few days.
The game's Japanese site has gone live and contains plenty of information on what the game will entail, lovingly translated by Gematsu:
Enjoy cooperative online play in this Wii U-exclusive free-to-play digital game. It comes loaded with a "Multi-View Action System" not yet seen before. A new type of action game awaits. Get in on the mission now!
Bring Back Hidden Relics
The objective of Lost Reavers is to bring back "Relics," unknown treasures hidden throughout the world. From ancient ruins to modern remains, Relics are hidden throughout various locations, and many an obstacle must be overcome in order to obtain them.Unite With Friends
In order to efficiently bring back Relics, you can take on stages with friends. Provide each other cover, attack together, and take on even the mightiest of missions! For example, the movement speed of the player carrying the Relic is slower than normal, and he cannot issue attacks. If he's attacked, he'll drop the Relic on the ground. If you're protected by a friend, you'll be able to safely clear the area.
Battle Huge Monsters
Depending on the stage and which route you choose to take, it's possible you'll reach a room where a huge monster awaits. These monsters are without mercy and attack intruders incessantly, but by uniting with friends, defeating the enemy is never impossible.Multi-View Action System
While there are cases where the character you're controlling specializes in shooting, you can freely switch between viewpoints through the unique "Multi-View Action System," and from there can get a more accurate shot at the enemy without getting close.
There's also a brand-new gameplay trailer, which shows some of the above elements in action.
Thanks to Benson for the tip!

Sounds interesting. Will keep an eye out for sure.
Also... Bandai Namco... we'd love more tales on Nintendo please
WOW. I'm impressed.
@ikki5 We'll get those tales titles, sure, but as PS Vita™ remasters!
You know, despite the fact that Tales of the Abyss is the highest-selling handheld Tales title ever.
Doesn't really look like my thing, but hey, it's free to start. I'll at least give it a try, even though I like my multiplayer with friends to be local (which is why I pretty much always play Splatoon with strangers).
Almost looked like a Monster Hunter game for a minute there, lol
seeing as this is a free to play game, exclusive to the Wii U I'm not surprised the graphics are "a bit wobbly" the core gameplay look all right and after all if it sucks, its was free just delete
That trailer just sold me on the game, it looks fun!
I'm wondering why Japanese developers are starting to use western based game engines...... Surely for someone like Bandai Namco, they can afford to make their own game engines like Nintendo.
@AyeHaley sold? It's free
It sounds like Rainmaker mode on Splatoon.
@Artwark Which one are they using? Why shouldn't they use it when it suits their needs?
i wonder when where going hear about this game in the west as it stated that we well hear something in summer 2015
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33YZXx9qKxU)
Am I the only one who preferred the original name?
@Spoony_Tech my thoughts exactly
@manu0 it's unreal engine, says in the trailer
Okay, this looks REALLY fun. I want to play this with my friends
Please put gyro aiming option into it.
Aww man, I forgot about this game like 2 months ago. Now this shows up to get me all hyped up again. I hope we get a public beta testing too even though I know it's highly unlikely.
Should've used the title lost reavers treasure trackers!
Seriously though, not a fan of the title.
In a couple of those shots, it looked like there was quite a bit of slowdown. It's still in development of course so who knows. Looks like a ton of fun though. I will be downloading!
Beta test will be available for download on September 3rd in Japan btw.
violence is fun:)...in video games i mean ofcourse
I saw the thumbnail on the home page and thought Dark Souls was coming to the Wii U/NX. Nearly had a heart attack at Nintendo finally getting a quality third party title.
Disappointment was had.
Eh, I think it'll be okay. Just makes me want to play Xenoblade X, based solely on watching it.
is it only multiplayer?
Looks kind of fun. Question is where will Namco make money on it? Do you only get a few episodes/ levels for free and then buy more? Pay to win?
The game looks kinda bad, but the severe lack of anything like it is quite certainly a redeeming factor.
More third-party support!
@manu0 Because its Bandai Namco....Japanese developers tend to make their own game engines when they make their own games simply because of the long process it takes to make each game in Japan. And the fact that you're having something like this supported by a Western Engine just ruins the Japanese quality of games. The best way to make games is through custom engine and nothing else.
At this rate, Epic Games really don't need to make games because of how they make money with their own engines.
Well it certainly looks nice, but those framerate drops are absolutely atrocious. The stiff animation doesn't do it any favors either. Content might be good and hopefully it will be fun despite those shortcomings.
I will go out on a limb and say the "free to play" aspect will follow the setup of Tank! Tank! Tank!. There will be single level with limited plays allowed until you purchase something. Worse would be for it to follow the Ace Combat Inifinity model that requires serious grinding on three plays a day.
Already looks better than Devil's Third, and for a more affordable(?) price. (Not sure what I have to pay for yet)
Still it kinda reminds me of what I read from the "quest" mode of that obscure PS1 fighter Ehrgeiz.
I am sold..... Oooh wait, it's free
Anyway, I was hoping that they would announce more characters (and maybe give us a sneek peak that will confirm if KOS-MOS is in the game or not)
@Artwark Dude, it's just a game engine. It's up to the developers how good or bad the game is
Reavers? Aren't they border raiders from near Scotland? Well, I suppose as they are lost, it's fine for them to turn up in an Egyptian tomb
It looks promising. I'm not sure I like online play though. The lag on Nintendo servers and disconnects from people who don't want to play anymore gets irritating after a while. I hope there's a single-player mode. I wonder if there will be voice chat - as much as is possible on the 3DS.
Eh, doesn't look too bad, but not impressive, either. Moreover, I don't trust NamcoBandai with F2P at all, seeing how ludicrous their previous attempts were, as well as all the overpriced DLC they throw out like candy.
What does surprise me is that it runs on the Unreal Engine. Probably not the latest one (the textures look way too muddy for that), but this leaves a bit of hope for better UE-based titles to arrive on WiiU at the last second.
This looks like it could be a lot of fun. I'll be watching it and see how it develops.
Looks good but I wish it was fun-to-play rather than free-to-play. Also Namco give us a new Tales for Nintendo please, the last three Tales games you made all went to freaking PlayStation and they all sucks.
Its always japan that gets the good deals v.v
Since it's free-to-play and it looks like fun, I'll try it. Like always, though, I don't intend to spend a penny on it, so whether or not I stick with it will depend both on its fairness towards free players and its replayability/addicting factor.
Wii U very much alive in 2016 onwards.
I'd completely forgotten about this, I'll have to pick it up.
Looks really nice.
@ricklongo So, we'll be seeing you at tonight's Splatfest? Go, DECEPTICONS!
Aside from the technical issues, this might be fun. I like third-person action games and I'm getting a Hyrule Warriors vibe out of this (and I've put more than 200 hours into Hyrule Warriors).
Sadly, I'm not big into online games, and it looks like this game won't offer much of a single-player experience. Also, a loot system would probably be a good idea. I'm cautiously optimistic about this.
Seems like Japanese devs have a real hard time getting UE3 to run well enough on Wii U. Still, this game looks really fun! I know it'll be coming over, but I'd like to know when we'll get our beta test. Hopefully it doesn't overlap with Blade and Soul's beta or another possible Tree of Saviour beta.
Looks like Dragons Dogma running on a PS1 Tomb Raider engine. I'm going to guess they were going for a look like those early TR games. Never could deal with how movement was controlled in those.
Oh, I'm watching it stamp size on my 7" tablet, I'm sure it looks different on a big screen.
I was hyped about this as soon as they made the original announcement as Project Treasure. I also spent hundreds of hours playing Warframe on my PS4 and XBO so it's about time we got a F2P title of this caliber on the Wii U.
I'm in.
Addendum:
This is going to be what Deep Down never was for the PS4. Suck it, Capcom.
@TomKnows I'll definitely be there, although I suspect I'm on the other team.
I thought the Unreal Engine wasn't easily compatible with the Wii U?
Wasn't there a big fuss when they announced porting Bloodstained over and with it the whole engine?
Searching for lost treasure, eh? Looks to me, the girl in white is searching for her lost pants. Ooohhhhh!!!
Can you play with strangers? Or does everyone have to be a unique character?
Only thing I'm not excited about is that there are set characters, instead of a customizable avatar and classes.
That would have been so much better.
I would really want customizable characters for something like this.
Looks interesting. I'll keep an eye on it. It's weird having stereotype Western and Japanese characters next to each other like that though.
The UI looks like a combination of Monster Hunter and Peace Walker. The usual suspects when it comes to hunter games.
But since its a F2P title from Namco, and having played Ace Combat Infinity, i couldnt be less interested.
Losto Leavers, Lol. Judging from the trailer, this could be quite fun (even if it is free to play). Also, Unreal engine on a Nintendo device...may be a first.
Ah, I was wondering when we would hear more on this game. It's nice to know it has an official name now. Lost Reavers is a pretty memorable name, though I must admit, I've kind of gotten used to referring to it as Project Treasure.
Anyway, I do look forward to this game. Sure, I wish it had a local multiplayer option (split screen worked back in the day so there is no reason for it not work now) and Multi-View Action Scene isn't quite as unique as they make it seem, but it looks fun.
I like the concept of tracking down relics, and then having to project the person who has obtained the relic (or rely on others to protect you as you secure the relic). It seems like there will be quite a few times when teamwork is required, and you'll have some players reviving or solving puzzles whilst the others fight off enemies.
Character wise, I do hope to see more revealed in future. So far, I'd say I prefer Sayuri most of all, though Shadowstake (I think that's his name, it's hard to see it in this video) does look more like the type of character I'd enjoy playing as. Anyway, this game is going to be free-to-play (or free-to-start, we'll have to wait and see), so I'll try it out at the very least. If I enjoy it, I'll dedicate some time to it, and if I feel it's pricing is fair and the rewards are worth it, maybe even spend some money towards it.
I look forward to trying Lost Reavers out!
Can't hurt to try it out once it releases, the gameplay kinda reminds me of Monster Hunter which is always a plus.
Even though I'm not very sure abut the free to play thing, it could still be great mostly because Puzzle and Dragons pulled it off well and Bandai Namco will hopefully follow. So far iron looks very fun, the game play kinda reminds me of Xenoblade and Rainmaker mode in Splatoon.
Am interested in this one, I just hope the final game doesn't have any slow down, that would really put me off.
Can someone tell me if this has voice chat?
Ah what is this? A game that might use the gamepad in an innovative way?? One player solves a puzzle under pressure while her teammates battle baddies around her to keep her safe! Sounds like fun!
@themightyboost UE4 is not officially supported but UE3 is. However, UE4 is a scale-able engine and can, in fact, be used for Wii U development.
@Henmii The batman games run on unreal. I think Ninja Gaiden 3 may have run on it as well.
@Blastcorp64
"Lost treasure Eh? Seems to me, the girl in white is searching for her lost pants. Ohhhhh!"
Lol lol
Gosh dang this game looks flipping excellent to be perfectly honest. Which is quite surprising considering I didn't think too much of it the first time they showed it.
I'm all in. I usually spend $50 on new games, so I'm willing to set $50 aside for this one in whatever form of payment they take. Hopefully there's an option to buy the rest of the game- I always prefer that rather then smaller transactions that never end. But regardless of how it is structured I can toss in a fiddy...
Looks like fun to me! I love co-op, stealing treasure, and fighting monsters!
@TromboneGamer,
Hmm, you may be right.
