Update:

We've received the following information on this release from Nintendo of America:

  • This version was originally released on the Famicom Disk System in Japan, and its upcoming release will be the first time it is available in the United States
  • Unlike Vs. Excitebike for the arcade, this version has a track editor, where you can use 20 different parts to create tracks and race on them against your friends in 2-player split screen
  • This Famicom version of the game also featured more tracks than the original NES version, and had music added to the single player mode
  • Vs. Excitebike will be released once the challenges in Builders Week (tweet below) are completed

Original Article:

Nintendo's been rather busy at the start of this week, and has now confirmed that VS. Excitebike is on the way, with it being part of 'Builders Week' - naturally this is promoting games with level creation aspects.

It's an intriguing announcement, as Nintendo of America has been teasing that a new eShop game would be on show at PAX Prime this coming week (28th to 31st August in Seattle).

VS. Excitebike did arrive in two forms in the past, with a notable version being on the Famicom Disk System which supported 1 vs 1 races and track creation. It's possible this'll be a Virtual Console release of that or, of course, it's not beyond scope that it could be a re-imagined new version - rather like the Excitebike: World Rally game that was released on WiiWare.

Whatever the case, it seems we'll be creating Excitebike tracks soon. Are you excite(d)?
