With so many weapons in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild it's difficult to know what's hot and what's not without risking your own neck against a particularly angsty Lynel. That's why we've teamed up with Arekkz Gaming in the video above to bring you the top ten weapons you can find in the game, taking into account strength, availability, durability, overall prettiness, and a whole range of other factors.
As a bonus, make sure you check out the collaboration we had on Arekkz' channel below where we look at eight items that are essential for survival in this expansive little adventure.
I really wish this was an article I could read. I realise YouTube makes you money, but you're getting a bit heavy on the old video articles these days...
Will there be enough interesting BotW content to keep the hype going til the DLCis released...
@alasdair91 Agreed. Text versions please. I don't have time for a video a lot of the time.
@Nintenjoe64 100% yes. new things are being discovered in that game every day. I will say that as more games get released the hype on the internet will slowly start to die down. but once we get hard mode dlc it will start back up again with Zelda: Breath of the Dark Souls
What is the deal with this site lately? Advertising pirating of Nintendo software yesterday and for a month or so video articles galore.....c'mon guys.
Master Sword + lots of Royal Broadswords, Savage Lynel Swords and Ancient Sword++'s, you're welcome and didn't even need to watch the video.
Also, thanks for the bit of spoilng thumbnail!
Can't be bothered to watch the video, but my bread and butter weapons through the whole game were the three tiers of Lizalfos Boomerang Knives, they were easy and fun to use, had decent durability and were quite common.
Obviously there were all sorts of nifty elemental weapons and such, my favorite being the lightning kind, but those were a bit hard to come by and thus didn't get as much use.
Nah my inventory is already packed with those high damage Sheikah weapons that I will never dare to use
@marnelljm These articles are in addition to standard articles, they're not replacing would-be written installments. Furthermore if you're really that opposed to videos, take note of the big word 'VIDEO' in front of the headline before clicking just to complain.
I've asked previously on numerous occasions but could you please not spoil this game for the many of us still playing through the game? Even that cover photo has spoiled a bit of the game and it's on the main site page where it's unavoidable. Was that necessary?
@AlexOlney great video. Me and my kids love your videos. Keep up the great work. 👍🏻
Edit. Reading the wierd comments here I'd like to say
I prefer videos
It seems to me like enemies tend to level up, and they have much better weapons. I run into a lot more white and silver moblins and bokoblins, that always seem to have royal swords/broadswords. Basically anything with attack above 35 is worth keeping. Critical hit trait is extremely valuable as well.
Top weapons that I don't use because I don't want to break them and then waste resources for recreating them again :<
I always have a ton of 45+ weapons in my inventory that I am afraid to use so I just use crappy weapons in the 20-30 range. At least my armor is good now. Maybe you could do a video/article on best armor.
Btw I don't mind the videos because 1) @AlexOlney is awesome and an important part of this site and 2) it freaking says VIDEO right in the headline, ya screws!
Nice thumbnail spoiler.
I have to get that savage Lynnell club, wow
Unbreakable weapons have more epicness and character to them like the master sword. I mean there can only be one but still^^
The lensflare and color of the ancient weapons is really nice.
#1 is Stasis
Nice video pal, I'd stupidly ignored Golden Bows for a long time. No more!
Oh I use bombs all the time. Good for dealing with evasive enemies that circle you before attacking, as many pay no attention to the bombs. Early game I tossed a lot of bombs at enemies from behind walls, since they aren't smart enough to identify where the bombs came from.
Also, I'm not sure how many know this about bombs, but they are the only rune you can utilize with a paraglider. Pressing the button for runes will drop a bomb in mid-flight (without having to deactivate the paraglider like you do with bows), and pressing it again will detonate it.
As for my favorite bow, I loved the Phrenic bow a lot (haven't reached a point in the game where I can get a golden bow), but I really like the Ancient Bow. Fires the same way a Phrenic/Golden bow does, albeit without the scope.
Anyone else miss the big, red or blue piggy moblins from the first Zelda/the animated series? Anyone? Anyone? (I do)
Aaaand it broke...
@alasdair91 I agree, I think the ideal compromise for video articles would be to have it in both text and video form. If it's true that money is made I guess that isn't realistic. To be honest I wasn't in the mood to watch a weapons video let alone after seeing it was 20 minutes long.
Still I feel like @AlexOlney is getting a lot of hate in these comments so I want to say that I still enjoy and appreciate the effort you put into these videos.
Please Nintendolife do not go down this road. I stopped reading vg247.com due to the fact that every destiny article was a link to this youtubers channel/videos. Arekkz is not even a decent youtuber he's just a paid shill. Stop it don't let this guy infect all your content, you don't need it.
I like the videos but I was kinda hoping it was a video and written article to accompany it. Sometimes I'm in a place I can't listen to audio (like not paying attention in my college classes).
Should've had a video link at the beginning and then put down the text version of the list. Never really cared for videos here.
A Balloon to lift giant stone ??
Once one gains the master sword everything else is moot. It cuts through bosses like butter and laughs at anything in the castle. It should be the first thing you aim for. Just use the statue in Hateno to temporarily transfer over some Stamina.
The 10m cooldown is when you pull out whatever you have as a backup. I normally default to the Zora spear because you can get it fixed.
Combat trials are a good source of ancient weapons. Even the hard ones are easy if you just use Stasis+ on them at the right time.
I apologise if any of that was spoilers but it's even 3 weeks since it came out and if you haven't played it yet, what's wrong?
What's up with all the complaining? It's not like these videos are replacing articles or anything. This ain't Burger King. Can't have everything your way.
@RadioHedgeFund "I apologise if any of that was spoilers but it's even 3 weeks since it came out and if you haven't played it yet, what's wrong?"
Well not everybody has money.
That said I agree with the rest of what you said except that I refuse to use any of my Champion weapons. (I know they can be repaired.)
to answer the question in the 2nd video, you can carry 999 arrows.
I'm not sure what in the headline or article picture is spoilerish and even so, maybe Nintendo Life should be avoided if you are still playing the game and don't want to be spoiled or haven't played it yet at all.
@TheLobster you don't have £50 worth of games sat on your shelf you can trade in?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE JFC dude what did you expect when you click on a video or article that says top 10 weapons. I know that its hard for you to understand that maybe this has spoilers so you are just complaining to complain. You are so negative I am sure you are a blast to hang out with in person.
This is what I got to say about Weapons.
All Elemental Weapons are good, most particularly the Spears. The Elemental Spears are actually some of the best Spears in the game. All Elemental Weapons got high durability, unfortunately you need to kill Stalnox for them. Unless they are one of the few scattered around the world. Guardian Scouts are weak to all electrical attacks and not just the spear. You can shoot Shock arrows at it and it'll stop.
I don't personally love Two-Handed weapons, but it works great as a combo with Urbosa's Fury. Savage Lynel Club is the best at its job. If you like throwing weapons, than of course the Giant Boomerang. Just charge up, attack, lightning follows and repeat. Ancient Bladesaw isn't all the great. Especially when you need 1,000 rupees and the materials just to get it.
As general weapons, the Korok Leaf and all the Rods are great. Fire/Meteor Rod is my Firestarter, which the Flameblade is good at too. Ice/Blizzard is obviously good at Freezing, but I don't use them. The Korok Leaf is good at pushing enemies of cliffs or away from you. I think it may also cause some enemies to drop their weapons too.
As for bows, the Royal Bow and Steel Lizalfos are the best standard bows. The Savage Lynel Bow is the best bow for it's 3x/5x arrows at the cost of one. The Duplex Bow is also good, as it hits the same place twice, while the Lynel Bows are a bit spread out and may miss something. Although it's only good use is fighting the Blight Ganons, as hitting the Mask a few times causes him to fall. I was not aware of the Zoom Bows, but I guess there good for the Korok challenges.
It doesnt bother me (because I wont watch the video and usually dont comment on these video-only articles) but if you want to keep your readers engaged and talking, wouldnt hurt to write up a summary. Would make the related FB post better too.
I fish with... bombs. Super efficient!
I hope the DLC will extand my gameplay. I already spend 130h into the game but after the story there is not really that much left. I hope the hard mode will not only make enemies tougher, but add more survival needs aswell. For Example that link becomes hungry, tired and needs to sleep, can get sick and stuff like that. Because lets face it, when you defeated the final boss and continue to play, you dont really need to cook at all anymore because you have amore to survive, the cold/heat, to much hearts, a pocket full of fairies and so on
@n00rs Fish with electric arrows instead, way easier!
@Smegmapoo69 That's more expensive though
@n00rs Yeah but on the other hand you dont really have use for electric arrows anyway. At least I dont need to use them during combat.
@SirRandall Are you simple? Maybe it's hard for you to understand but I'm talking about the big glowing weapon that is the cover photo for this article that is on the main site page. That's a spoiler with no warning whatsoever and completely unavoidable to see.
I quit going to IGN and started coming here SPECIFICALLY because I could read articles instead of being forced to watch them.
I have to admit that I didn't know you could carry a glowy chainsaw at all, and I have played at least a hundred hours.
@AlternateButtons Entitled? Nah. I just prefer to get my news and features in articles that can be read in two minutes as opposed to videos that take 18 minutes to watch. Also, it's easier to come back and reference text than to try to find a specific point in a YouTube embed.
@RadioHedgeFund I'm not talking about myself. Context clues say I'm playing the game.
But no, I do not trade in games ever. Thus, I have around 500, which is a reasonable collection of physical games.
@TheLobster you know I never put much thought into having a huge game collection. So long as I have my top 10 of all time to play through (most of which can be found on the 360) I'm ok.
Yeah I was thinking the same. I'm wondering if 20 years from now, will reading become an ancient skill? Are we all just gonna be watching Youtube for news? I'm suddenly very afraid...
Also I have a data limit every month, so, yeah. Getting kinda tired of all the vids these days too.
Wouldn't the ancient shield you can make at akkala lab be better than the guardian shield++?
@EternalDragonX holy crap I'd never thought of using that in a fight 😂 Goes off to re-evaluate the whole reason for living
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Oh god you are acting like it ruined the entire game. How about you chill and stop acting like a child.
