I hope they conduct a similar survey in other territories. With a WAY more comprehensive and less biased Question 3. Or whatever form such a survey would take. I'm all for giving businesses and corporations constructive feedback, but engagement from both sides needs to be in good faith.
I acknowledge that there are a few benefits to GKCs over pure digital and a code in the box. But at the end of the day, they still require a meaty download on an expensive storage solution AND an internet connection (some areas of the world DON'T have easy access to good, stable internet, parts of the US included) that are pushed onto the consumer. Not to mention that, one day, download resources will inevitably shut down. Sure, this may be years or decades down the line. And regular physical cartridges do fail. But in the case of the latter, one simply has to seek out another physical replacement. Some physical games require patches, true, but many are still fully playable without updates. Unless, of course, the publisher cheaps out and only puts half the game on a cart. Which we have unfortunately seen on the Switch Uno.
I am not against digital and acknowledge the importance of cloud storage and open source solutions when it comes to game preservation and distribution. However, consumer protections need to be WAY more robust when it comes to digital before I embrace it with open arms.
I'm curious about how this will turn out if the project comes to fruition. I like the movie Mario-verse so far, so I'm keen to see what else Nintendo and Universal churn out.
Also: I was today years old when I learned there's a DKC cartoon from this comment section.
I appreciate the transparency. Maybe wait until we have the game in our hands before waving torches?
Gameplay over performance, in my opinion. Performance does matter, but it isn't the holy grail of measuring a game. I'm personally not bothered by slight frame drops. People complained about Echoes of Wisdom and Link's Awakening on Switch. While I'll admit the frame drops WERE noticeable, they didn't happen to me often and did nothing to kill my enjoyment. Granted, I play docked most of the time, so maybe that's the difference? I really understand FPS complaints when they pertain to certain genres and/or fall low enough to make a game borderline unplayable. Which I highly, HIGHLY doubt will happen with Donkey Kong Bananza.
And no, I'm not just giving Nintendo a "pass" here. I've played games from other publishers and on other platforms that did have some frame drops, but they were far from unplayable. The only game I ever recall dropping due to a myriad of bugs and less so frames was Darksiders: Warmastered Edition on the Wii U. A third party game. I had to give up after endlessly falling through the floor...repeatedly after reloads.
I finished the decent Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth early this week. Turnabout Ablaze had a fun wrap-up, though I feel it dragged on longer than needed. It's amazing how much craziness Edgeworth got thrown at him in just a few days. XD I'm taking a break from the collection before diving back in with Prosecutor's Gambit.
Playing:
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team - I'm FINALLY through Mt. Pajamaja. This part of the game seemed to drag on, especially the dream world bit. If I read BEEF one more time, something's getting hurled. At least I can now use warp pipes. The Bros. are now off to Driftwood Shore to make sure Peach is safe from the combined machinations of Antasma and Bowser.
Ys IX: Monstrum Nox (Switch) - Hoping to start Adol's chronologically last (as of this writing) series adventure in Balduq later. This is the last modern Ys game I have yet to get to that isn't a remaster or rerelease. Edit: First impressions are great! Some very crazy happenings with way more questions than answers. Adol has NOT been shipwrecked for once, but he has been arrested and is now a fugitive. No party members yet, but the gameplay is mostly what I remember from Ys VIII. I'm looking forward to exploring more of the labyrinthine Balduq and learning more about the Monstrums. Currently at the start of Chapter 2.
SteamWorld Dig (PC) - My third time playing this fun Metroidvania, first on a non-Nintendo platform. I picked it up recently on Steam when it was free for a brief time. I'm enjoying playing as Rusty again, though SteamWorld Dig 2 improves on the original in nearly every way.
I really enjoyed my Switch playthrough of Ys X: Nordics early this year - it's my second favorite 3D Ys after Ys VIII - though I'll admit the Proud Nordics announcement for Japan as I was partway through the game was an irritating shock. I really hope there's an upgrade/DLC path for the original game if this releases in the West. As much as I adore the Ys series, I'm not gonna double-dip for a game this soon. Falcom is no stranger to adding on new content to rereleases, but this one seems like it's coming sooner than many previously did.
A wonderful acknowledgement to Iwata from Sakurai. It's crazy to think the latter will soon be the same age as Iwata when he passed on.
I'm gonna need more info on Kirby Air Riders before I consider the game, but I'm happy for those who are fans of the original game. I had no GameCube access back in the day, so I have no experience with it.
I still can't believe it's already been 10 years. Time makes fools of a lot of us, it seems. I wonder how he'd react to the Switch's - and Nintendo's - current success?
Thank you for everything, Mr. Iwata-san. You departed this world too soon, but what a legacy you left.
Vouchers aren't a service I use much since I often opt for physical games, but I have taken advantage of them. Kinda stinks for those who prefer digital, though I've occasionally seen better deals elsewhere.
Hopefully, Nintendo replaces this (and gold coins) with another program on the Switch 2, but I'm not holding my breath.
All of these I either have in some form or am not interested in, but I have it on good authority that the Mario & Luigi: Brothership Best Buy discount might show up either on my b-day later this year or in my Christmas stocking.
I'm keeping an eye on DekuDeals since a lot of different retailers are running discounts outside of this list too.
In the meantime, Final Fantasy IX is discounted slightly more than usual on the US eShop compared to its similar evergreen Final Fantasy brethren VII and VIII (70% off for $6.29 instead of the normal 60%), so...yay I guess? It's actually 10 cents cheaper than VII.
You'd think a huge tech giant like MS could get their act together and - I dunno - sustain most of their employees and subsidiaries. But no, it's about always chasing a higher bottom line while sacrificing most of the chess board along the way.
Definitely Donkey Kong Bananza for me, though it'll be some time since I don't have a Switch 2 yet. Probably Shadow Labyrinth on Switch 1 unless it reviews poorly. Possibly No Sleep For Kaname Date sometime in the future should I find I like the previous two AI: The Somnium Files games I haven't played yet.
Mostly laid back Saturday, busy Sunday. I was NOT off work for the 4th yesterday, but I didn't work the full day either.
Still playing:
Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth (AAIC/Switch) - I'm towards the back end of Case 5 and hoped to finish it before now, but it's a doozy. Edgeworth has figured out who The Great Thief Yatagarasu is, but we still need to figure out who the leader is of this smuggling business. From dropped hints, I suspect it's one of the two embassy ambassadors.
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team - I've had my first Giant Luigi battle. While that was fun overall, it revives one of the gimmicks I wasn't fond of in the Bowser's Inside Story remaster. I wish I could skip these slow battles. Last time I did some bean cleanup, began exploring the town of Wakeport, and signed up for a Mount Pajamaja tour. This won't get derailed, right? RIGHT?! Edit: It did. Finally woke up the lazy tour guide. He was "beefing up"...in his dreams.
There is a two day Eevee Community Day Classic in Pokemon Go this weekend, but I'm sitting this one out. I already have more than enough of the silvery fluffballs and their shiny evolutions.
Happy gaming! Happy late 4th of July to my fellow Americans, and happy very late Canada Day to my northern neighbors!
I do believe the Switch 2 can surpass the Switch 1 if Nintendo continues to play their cards well. It's had a strong launch and is also mostly backwards compatible with the Switch 1 library.
Not unprecedented; pretty much every electronic release goes through growing pains. Sounds like some of the issues are on Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma, but Nintendo should look into this IMO. The affected systems should still be under warranty.
I do wonder, since these reports are by Japanese owners, if it has something to do with the parts and components used for those cheaper, region locked Switch 2 units? IIRC, Nintendo produced a cheaper version of the console in Japan to help combat the weak Yen.
I'm still holding out hope some of these will get announced for the Switch 2 in an upcoming Direct. Though I suppose I could settle for Digimon Story Time Stranger on PC if it comes to it....
@McBurn Extremely, totally, 1000000% relatable. While I'd love this remake to be real, I will be more than occupied by my current game library and backlog for years!
Frankly, as much as I dislike the idea of game-key cards - though I consider them a step up from a code in the box - I'm also getting tired of the $41T stirring every other day about them.
I've decided I'll get any third party GCK Switch 2 only releases on PC when I have a capable machine. Sure, it'll be all digital, but at least the storage solutions are more affordable. I have toyed around with buying a PS5, but I admittedly don't have enough free time to throw in another platform.
Definitely looking forward to this one! I'd snap it up day one if I had a Switch 2. Buying the game will have to wait until I have the hardware to play it.
Interesting if true, but since there's no way to confirm so, I'm taking this with a healthy serving of salt for now.
Unfortunately, Amazon is usually my best option for new game deals. Best Buy sometimes has great deals; I'd love to have one close by, but I can't justify driving 90+ minutes to the nearest one.
Can't say I ever got into this show, though part of that was it ran in an early Saturday morning cartoon slot on my local Fox station (never been a morning person besides Christmas as a kid lol). Still, I'm aware of many of the characters and, posthumously, some jokes that were slipped past the censors at the time. I'm half tempted to watch the show nowadays to see if any of it sticks, but it's not a high priority.
Still, I'll take any game preservation victories as long as they're ethical.
I wouldn't complain since Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is an amazing entry in the series, but... is it really necessary? Last I checked, the game's available on several modern platforms.
While I currently have no horse in this race - I don't have a Switch 2, don't plan to grab one for some time, and also haven't played Mario Kart World in any form yet - I view review bombing as an immature way to get attention. It's often also for petty reasons. Metacritic often weeds out bogus reviews anyway (0s should only be given to a broken mess of a game that barely functions IMO), so this likely won't affect the game long-term.
A good way to get Nintendo's, or practically any company's, attention? Sending constructive emails, speaking with reps, or taking the review surveys they periodically send out. Sure, it takes more time, but highlighting exactly what one DOESN'T like about a game is a good way to kick change into motion. Not "0/10 this game sux because [insert arbitrary reason here]". It is very possible to be objective about a game without making it entirely subjective.
I also think many are comparing MKW to MK8D unfairly. Sure, the latter is a more solid, cohesive game rife with content from footage and impressions I've seen/read, but keep in mind Nintendo has built up the latter for a decade. It does sound like MKW could use some improvements for sure, but who's to say it won't be as celebrated as MK8D in time?
I just realized that while I've played a few recent releases this year, none of them came out in 2025. The closest ones would be Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, the Switch release of Stray, and Ys X: Nordics. Guess I'm exempt for now.
A fairly comprehensive list, though they're missing a small handful of titles. The World Ends With You: Final Remix and Legend of Mana being two of them.
Still Mario & Luigi: Dream Team (About done with Dozing Sands I think; 15 Pi'illos found) and Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth (AAIC/Switch, just wrapped up Case 4: Turnabout Reminiscence). Turns out I did get to spend some time in the court room as Edgeworth, even if it wasn't in a way I expected.
Edit: I forgot Global GO Fest is this weekend in Pokemon Go - I got it mixed up with the two day Eevee Community Day next weekend - so I've been participating in some raids.
This one has been on my wishlist for some time, but I keep kicking the can down the road thanks to other games and also wanting to wait for a more significant discount. It's how I keep both my backlog and budget in check.
Not the first criminal or the last, but c'mon guy.....This is low. You're depriving people of opportunities, through a public establishment, to play games for free or cheap. My local library has a small game rental section. I don't recall most of the games being great - it was comprised mostly of what many would call shovelware - but it's very important that various media services like games are made available.
@SirLink I don't disagree, and I do think Nintendo should implement a different solution in their power. However, this is, in my eyes, mostly on the individual who sold or traded in the console after knowingly using an MiG cart. A clear violation of the EULA, which Nintendo is far from the only company to implement. Sure, we could shift a little of the blame on Walmart for not fully vetting the unit before putting it up for sale, but IF they tested it (and this if iffy depending on the store and employees involved), this would've cleared basic functionality tests. I doubt they'd go as far as to test online features, especially if the console was wiped beforehand (which was likely).
I don't blame the buyer at all. I am glad they were able to return the system without hassle.
First, to clear this up: the console was bought at a Walmart, which does deal with used games and consoles. This means returns are also easy to do vs. dealing with online returns through eBay and the like. You can even return online purchases to a physical store.
Second, "bricking" is when the console doesn't function at all. I'd call a console with no Internet "crippled".
I agree this is a heavy-handed approach by Nintendo, but what else can they do? Banning accounts is, historically, about as effective as applying a small bandaid to a major traumatic injury; it's very easy to create a different account and spoof an IP. Not sure what would be a more effective solution.
In addition, I'd be very suspicious of secondhand Switch 2s this early. The system hasn't even been out a month, so any returns at this point are highly likely to be defective or subject to issues like this.

Seems like splitting hairs to me. There are WAY more important things to worry about.
Re: Nintendo Has Confirmed The Release Date For Drag X Drive On Switch 2
I need a demo for this game to help decide if it'll be a drag, or if I should buy credit to drive up my eShop balance.
Re: Man Busted After Allegedly Stealing "$10,000 Worth Of Nintendo Switch Games" From Public Libraries
Re: Nintendo's Strict Policy On MiG Carts Is Creating A Problem For Secondhand Switch 2 Buyers
Re: Nintendo's Strict Policy On MiG Carts Is Creating A Problem For Secondhand Switch 2 Buyers
