Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: WarioWare Smooth Moves

Tyranexx

Honestly, if we're going just by colors, none of these breach my top five. I went with Japan since the orange very much symbolizes WarioWare for me, though that's mostly nostalgia talking. My first series game was WarioWare: Touched!, which had a predominantly orange cart.

I only played Smooth Moves for the first time a few years ago, but it's my second favorite WarioWare to date. I played Move It! on Switch earlier this year and was disappointed in comparison.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (15th August)

Tyranexx

Playing:

  • Triangle Strategy (Switch) - On Chapter 4, right before a battle. I'll admit this one isn't grabbing me like I thought it would. I normally like world building and character development in games, but so far I think this is weighted too much in that direction vs. gameplay. I plan to stick with the game a little longer to see if it clicks. Edit: Aaand the dominoes finally start to fall. Definitely more intrigued by events now! At the start of Chapter 6.
  • Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam - After conquering the aptly named Mt. Brr and destroying the Bowser Jrs.' Papercraft (felt kinda bad about this lol), our heroes once again lost both princesses. Off to the prison in Twinsy Tropics, but not before hitting up every Drill Bros. spot I can find on the way. Still loving the gameplay and character interactions.
  • Pokemon Go - Nickit Community Day is tomorrow, but I don't know how much I'll be able to participate due to my schedule. Really wish Scopely would have time slots on both weekend days....

Happy gaming!

Re: Bethesda Aware Of Feedback Asking For Additional Oblivion Remastered Patch

Tyranexx

@NoLyfeGamer To me it would make more sense to officially incorporate the most popular and/or useful mods in future builds of these games - with permission, credit, and royalties if the creator(s) want them of course - but for some reason I don't see most big studios doing that. For all I know, Bethesda has done this, but I currently have little experience with their games.

Re: Kingdom Hearts Is A "Billion-Dollar" Franchise, According To Disney

Tyranexx

Glad I'm not the only one who's never started this series due to the sheer number of games and convoluted storytelling. Though it being locked to PlayStation used to contribute as well. On paper, the mashup of Disney and Final Fantasy-esque characters seems like a no-brainer. Maybe I'll dip a toe in someday, but I have enough games already vying for my time.

Re: Preview: Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Dials The 'Three Houses Formula' Up To 11

Tyranexx

This game is shaping up to be a must buy for me in the future. I really enjoyed what I've played of Three Houses, though I still have two routes to finish (later this year - I promise!) and would like to play Three Hopes at least once. I'm particularly looking forward to more variety between battles since - as much as I like FE3H as a whole - the monastery sections can drag after awhile. I'm very excited that dungeons are making the jump from Shadows of Valentia. I can't comment on Engage since it's still backlogged, but I also intend to get to it in the future. I've been hooked on the series ever since I first played Awakening.

Also: others have brought this up, but technically there ARE four houses in FE3H. The Ashen Wolves from the DLC campaign. They just aren't officially recognized by the Officers Academy.

Re: Pokémon Bank Is Shutting Down In February 2027

Tyranexx

Ironic that this will happen on Pokemon Day. Sad, but inevitable. I didn't expect them to keep this service up forever, and I did finally cave and start paying for Pokemon Home last year. Mainly for extra Pokemon Go storage, but I do use the Switch app to move Pokemon between games too. Thankfully I've already migrated everything I want/can from my Gen 3+ games into Pokemon Bank (Still sour about my Spiky-Eared Pichu stuck in SoulSilver), so it'll just be a matter of mass transferring 'Mon from point A to B.

This does move up my planned Pokemon Crystal (3DS VC) run, though I planned to play it soon anyway. I still own my OG cartridge, but the battery no longer holds a save.

Re: Switch 2 Demo Kiosks Now Advertising September Price Hike

Tyranexx

While I definitely believe in constructive criticism towards companies - including Nintendo - I also think giving credit where it's due is beneficial too. Nintendo gave advance notice about the increase and is trying to warn the average public as well. This is much better than many other console manufacturers IMO, who gave little to no notice about their price increases.

Re: Poll: So, Are You Getting The Zelda Switch 2 Console And Pro Controller?

Tyranexx

I really like the looks of both. For me, the pro controller is a no-brainer. I'd willingly pay up for it.

I'm undecided on the console however. Unlike many NL users, I have yet to secure a Switch 2 partially for this reason. Now that we have strong evidence this exists, I have a dilemma: do I wait out the price increase, take my chances on a console that'll likely be a scalper target, and deal with the strong chance of sales going live when I'm unable to jump into the queue in a timely manner (Since I actually work/sleep/have life obligations)? Or buy the current "Choose Your Game" bundle in the US as "insurance" now in case I'm unable to secure the SE so that I still have a console? I don't really want to deal with the headache of reselling, and my two local trade-in options are both chains that'll give me peanuts in return.

So yeah, a lot to mull over.

Re: Legend Of Zelda Limited Edition Switch 2 Console And Pro Controller Leaks

Tyranexx

It all looks...so... beautiful.... 🤩 Though I do agree that just a black + gold scheme would be better, this is at least way less plain than the base Switch 2.

I'm almost positive they'll wait to officially reveal this until after September 1st (though I'd love to be wrong). Hopefully it won't be snapped up immediately by scalpers, because I'd totally wait until after the Switch 2 price increase to get this.

@AussieMcBucket @datamonkey The Adventure of Leak(s).

Re: Feature: "It's Disingenuous To Call It A Remake" - Bethesda On Why Oblivion For Switch 2 Is A Remaster

Tyranexx

@yohn777 I suppose "not fully playable" would be the better use for BDSP in this context. The pair aren't as egregious as my other example, but the fact remains that there was still some content locked behind that day one update. Though fair point regarding Darkrai and Shaymin being tied to outside events anyway (a nitpick I have with Pokemon games as a whole).

I suppose most Switch games are "playable" at the basest definition sans updates, but cutting corners or meeting deadlines by cutting a fair amount of content that should have shipped with the final product is a huge error in my book. A lot of this is on publishers, but some impatient gamers share the blame too.

Re: Feature: "It's Disingenuous To Call It A Remake" - Bethesda On Why Oblivion For Switch 2 Is A Remaster

Tyranexx

@yohn777 While BDSP is admittedly playable without any updates, there's a fair amount of content missing without the day one patch. Which was a hefty download if I recall. Some stuff it added was:

  • The opening movie
  • Ramanas Park
  • Updated/final music versions
  • Various local and online features, like the Grand Underground, Super Contest Show, and Union Room
  • Post game events, such as encountering Darkrai and Shaymin.

For me, this patch adds enough content that physical cartridges can't really be called complete. These are more than bug fixes and minor QoL improvements; a lot of this stuff should have been shipped with the initial game. I suspect the pair were rushed to meet holiday deadlines.

Re: Feature: "It's Disingenuous To Call It A Remake" - Bethesda On Why Oblivion For Switch 2 Is A Remaster

Tyranexx

The intent was you can pick it up out of the box, put it in, play, and if you don't update immediately, you can still play the game. But of course, we'll have fixes here and there if and when they come along.

This. This right here. THIS is what I look for when I pick up physical titles. I'm well aware that modern titles often get bug fixes and patches, but the fact that it's playable straight after being inserted into the console is so important. None of these "Download the other half of the game because we're too cheap to invest in a larger cartridge size (Looking at you, Spyro Reignited Trilogy) or "We rushed this game out and didn't adequately delay it to allow for ample development time, so download some missing pieces of the game" (Pokemon Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl) nonsense.

Looking forward to this game on Switch 2 when I eventually buy it and the game, though I'll admit this will depend on reviews and user impressions since its launch and subsequent support on PC and other consoles hasn't been amazing.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Metroid 40th Anniversary Special

Tyranexx

I at least like them all, but I had to go with Super Metroid. Samus charging into action with many of the game's bosses in the background, including Ridley. Plus, it absolutely nails the atmosphere. Though Dread and Fusion definitely have atmosphere going for them too.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (8th August)

Tyranexx

While I recover today from a two day spontaneous session of Rollercoaster Tycoon: Live Edition two states away, I'm playing:

  • Triangle Strategy (Switch) - All this Fire Emblem news put me in the mood for some strategic gameplay and political intrigue, albeit in a slightly different flavor. Starting this shortly and plan to update this with some first impressions. Edit: Almost three hours in, there's definitely a lot of exposition and world building so far - something I don't mind but can see irritating others who just want gameplay. I've played one story battle and am about to start my second one. I like some of the characters, and as usual the HD-2D art style doesn't disappoint!
  • Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam - I'm currently trying to navigate through Gloomy Woods to rescue both Princess Peaches from Mt. Brr. Still taking my time with and enjoying this one, especially the wholesome conversations between the Princesses Peach and Bowser Jrs. Though I'm starting to understand the Paper Toad complaints.

Happy gaming!

Re: Capcom Isn't Fussed About A Potential All-Digital Future

Tyranexx

I'd love to buy more Capcom games physical. At least in some regions, the Ace Attorney series is available physically. Can't say the same for other games however. For example, Capcom seems to count any way I can purchase Monster Hunter Stories 3 as digital. I'd LOVE the game physical.

Again, my problem isn't that digital is an option. More options are good. My problem is the lack of consumer protections tied to those purchases compared to physical. Both formats have their positives and negatives. The true issue is ownership.

Re: Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Games & Accessories For August & September 2026

Tyranexx

@Dm9982 In terms of mainline Pokemon games, Scarlet/Violet are the best ones to release since Ultra Sun/Moon IMO, and the best since Black/White 1/2 in the writing department. I completely agree regarding the writing and like that there are different tracks to follow on your journey besides the gym challenge. Area Zero is an excellent late game zone, and I didn't expect the plot - for a Pokemon game - to go the direction it did at that point. Though there were subtle nods. I have played through all the DLC and really enjoyed it, especially Blueberry Academy/Indigo Disk. Sca/VI are my second favorite Switch Pokemon games to date after Arceus.

The Ocarina of Time remake persuaded me to finally jump off the Switch 2 fence lol. Hopefully later this month before the price increase. I highly recommend Tears of the Kingdom, though it's definitely also a time commitment. Some subtle reconning aside, I enjoyed the game more than BotW for the most part. Which is saying something lol.

Re: Talking Point: So, What Did You Think Of The Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Nintendo Direct?

Tyranexx

I was already sold, but this Direct pushed me past the line even more. There was so much information that I plan to watch it again. I'm particularly stoked about playing the four tournament protagonists in tandem and dungeon exploration returning with a twist from Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. It was one of my favourite aspects of the game.

Though...Part of me wishes I skipped the end of the Direct to leave some elements a surprise. I likely won't watch anymore official trailers or FE presentations after this.

Re: Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Games & Accessories For August & September 2026

Tyranexx

@Dm9982 I can totally see how a Netrunner is a lot like a mage in theory. I appreciate you explaining the 3 operating systems in Cyberpunk; they honestly all sound fun. Good thing switching sounds easy! A Nettunner that can hold their own for a little while in combat sounds pretty ideal for me. 🤔

LOL The starters having cruddy level up moves slipped my mind too until my replay! Thankfully I supplemented with TMs, but they're sadly finite in most cases. I missed breeding too. I actually haven't played Legends Z-A yet, but the lack of breeding is a complaint I've seen tossed out. I quite enjoyed Arceus, and I honestly enjoyed my playthrough of Pokemon Scarlet even with the visual jank.

I suspect Skyrim is the type of game I'll hold onto and revisit on occasion, even if it's only for a few hours. The possibilities seem almost endless, and folks still seem to discover things that go viral even after all these years. That's partially why I'm gonna try not to sweat doing All The Things™. Something I'm getting better doing in general, but I still need work lol. I love games where you can directly influence the world based on how you interact with it. One of the reasons why I like BotW and TotK so much despite preferring the classic Zelda formula overall.

Re: Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Games & Accessories For August & September 2026

Tyranexx

@Dm9982 Ah, so it doesn't sound like carry weight in Skyrim will be TOO bad if one knows what they're doing lol. Though I do think I prefer infinite hammer space inventory. I was reminded how far we've come when replaying Pokemon Yellow earlier this year since the inventory in the Gen 1 games is limited compared to later Pokemon installments.

Skyrim truly does seem very open ended. To the point where I think they are very few ways to play the game wrong. One of the reasons why it's had such longevity after all these years I'm sure. I'm glad there isn't a level cap, truly leading to some experimentation. Once again, thank you for all the tips and advice!

I...actually like the idea of a netrunner in Cyberpunk. I believe they're basically a hacker? Nothing wrong with a good "god" game when the player is OP!

(Please forgive any typos. I often post on mobile, and my phone's autocorrect does some crazy stuff sometimes. )

Re: Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Games & Accessories For August & September 2026

Tyranexx

@Dm9982 Being able to take in the surroundings and appreciate a game's finer details IS a huge boon in my book. I've heard weight and inventory (encumbered?) do play a role in The Elder Scrolls. My experience with games that use these mechanics has been mixed, but I can adapt. Glad to know that there are ways to get around armor weight and noise later on in both Oblivion and Skyrim. I do like the idea of conjuring stealth weapons using illusion spells, something I'll investigate more. I appreciate the tips and ideas!

I'm admittedly not big on full spellcasters in many games I've played. They can be very powerful, but the tradeoff is often being a squishy glass cannon in my experience lol. I prefer characters that have plenty of utility and can take at least a few hits. That's probably why I often gravitated towards hybrid classes when I played WoW (mostly back during WotLK) that could fulfill different roles if needed. Though as you say, games have definitely come a long way since then, so I may experiment with an almost pure Elder Scrolls caster sometime. Shame Skyrim removed the spell creation altar - guessing Bethesda thought it was too OP in Oblivion lol.

Cyberpunk is definitely on my radar and is a game I'd like to pick up for Switch 2 in the future. It's amazing how much of a turnaround the game has had since its disastrous launch years ago. CD Projekt Red has really turned the game around IMO. As for the Fallout series, it has always intrigued me, but I've yet to dip a toe in. I may give Fallout 4 a chance sometime.

Re: Nintendo Direct For Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Announced

Tyranexx

@ChromaticDracula That's Takumi from Fire Emblem: Fates. Some like to dump on those three games - and some of it isn't unwarranted - but there's a lot to like about them too. Depending on the title, there's some excellent gameplay, some great characters, a great OST that goes much further than "Lost In Thoughts All Alone", and some fun unique classes on the Hoshidan side IMO.

Funny you mention Echoes; that's actually my favorite 3DS entry due to how casting tomes are handled and the dungeon exploration. Alm and Celica's story is fun to follow too, though it's fairly predictable.

Re: Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Games & Accessories For August & September 2026

Tyranexx

@Dm9982 My completionism stems from both the Zelda series (Since it's beneficial to try to go for 100% in most historic titles) and the fact that, at one time, 100% completion often didn't take 100s of hours. Tri Force Heroes mostly broke me out of it for the Zelda series since grinding the outfits would've taken ages (and an obscene amount of patience and sanity in single player). I still do QUITE a lot in games I enjoy but do stop when something will be quite a grind or isn't beneficial past a certain point. I'm less of a completionist outside of my favorite series these days, and even then I rarely go for a full 100%. Time is finite, increasingly so since I hit adulthood almost half my life ago.

I'm also an exploration fiend, so I have a love/hate relationship with open world games. I'm extremely picky about which ones I do grab as a result.

Thankfully I've never become too entrenched in achievement ecosystems, though I totally understand how those can keep folks playing. What often stops me with those is realizing 99.9% of people ultimately don't care what achievements I get lol.

That's great advice regarding Bethesda RPGs. I'm leaning towards a thief or assassin type character for my first run, so I'll definitely prioritize the thieves' guild. Probably won't do much with magic outside of self-healing or if the situation calls for it. I admittedly have little experience with Bethesda games - though they have quite the repertoire - outside of a few hours of the original Oblivion on a cousin's Xbox 360 almost two decades ago.

Re: Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Games & Accessories For August & September 2026

Tyranexx

@Dm9982 I'll let you know if I ever figure out the pocket dimension conundrum.

Gamer anxiety is a very real thing. Part of it is I used to be quite a completionist, but I've had to get better shutting that down when it comes to open world games. I fully intend to just dive into Skyrim (after spending waaay too long on character creation) and try not to worry about certain quests/builds/doing all the things too much. It'd be the only game I played for a year at that rate lol.

Sounds like Skyrim is another game I'll have to set alarms for on work nights. I had to do the same with games like BotW/TotK and Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
