Re: Pokémon Pinball Machine Officially Revealed By Stern Pinball, Available Now

Tyranexx

I REALLY hope we get one of these in at work sometime! For testing purposes, of course. If not, I'll have to find one in the wild. I love playing pinball machines, though not all of them are created equal.

I'd love for this to become accessible in digital form too. Not to mention there's a distinct lack of Pokemon Pinball on NSO for some reason....

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (14th February)

Tyranexx

My Switch slate freed up after finishing Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake's post game + true ending (Trust me, the Erdrick trilogy closure is worth it!), so I'm currently playing the delightfully zany WarioWare: Move It! as a palate cleanser. I have one of two JRPGs on deck for when I've had my microgame fill, but I'm not sure which to play first. Tune into next week's WAYPTW for my decision.

In Paper Mario (Wii U VC), I'm partway through chapter 3 and am about to enter the "invincible" Tubba Blubba's castle. You'd think eating Boos wouldn't be possible since they're...well...ghosts, but hey...plot convenience.

Happy gaming!

Re: Round Up: The Previews Are In For Pokémon Pokopia

Tyranexx

I am all in for the Dragon Quest Builders spiritual successor, thanks. Though it'll be a digital purchase, and not anytime soon.

While I'm not a fan of GKCs, I AM tired of seeing article comments derailed by the topic when it's irrelevant. Yes, the detractors often bring it up first - seriously guys, while I get it, please stop beating a dead Ponyta - but the hyperbole and counter-trolling can get almost as bad IMO. Just let it go. Move on. Vote with your wallets. Use the site's Ignore feature if it gets too tempting one way or the other. But for Arceus' sake, stop antagonizing each other.

(Personally, I don't use the Ignore feature outside of blatant trolling or harassment, but those accounts often get banned anyway; I don't support self-censoring since echo chambers aren't beneficial)

Re: Ubisoft Staff Push Back Against Company Restructure With Three-Day Strike

Tyranexx

@axelhander Hence why I used "some companies" in my comment. I realize there are some truly terrible businesses - and people - out there regardless of the country of origin. Nor do I think better pay structures will fully solve many of the issues at play in the business world right now - not just the games industry. But treating employees like they're humans, not disposable assets, is a good first step.

Re: Ubisoft Staff Push Back Against Company Restructure With Three-Day Strike

Tyranexx

It's truly disheartening to see this continue to happen in my favorite industry. I really wish more Western corporations would switch to how some Japanese companies handle organizational pay. Companies need to profit of course, but you need to look after the lower tier employees as well as the board members and higher-ups.

I originally studied software development in order to work in the video game industry. However, I was dissuaded by the Riot Games scandal back in the early 2010s. I'd still work with an indie team if the opportunity ever presents itself, but for a large corporation when my job could be shut down on a whim? No thanks. I've had way more luck in the business world and currently work for an operator in the amusement (our gaming) and gaming (regulated gambling) industries, so it is adjacent to our hobby.

Re: Video: Lego Pokémon Review Gives Us Our Best Look Yet

Tyranexx

As a casual LEGO fan, I appreciate review videos like this. My thoughts:

  • Eevee - cute, and I love the Easter eggs. I can see myself getting this one sometime.
  • Pikachu - Umm...No. I've seen Mega Blox Pokemon that look better than this. Subjectively of course.
  • Evolved Kanto starters - These look great, but I'm priced out of this set.
  • Badge case - I want this, but not when it's behind a $650 paywall.
  • Pokemon Center - cute, but nothing I need.

I'm not afraid to splash some money on sets, but I'm extremely picky about which ones I pick up as a result.

Re: Poll: So, Should Pokémon Red And Blue Return For The 30th Anniversary?

Tyranexx

While I'd love for the classic Pokemon games to come to Switch as standalone eShop and/or physical releases, realistically I think they'll only get dropped on NSO if they're coming at all.

I'd like some of the older games to receive the remake or remaster treatment, but this was unfortunately a huge monkey's paw moment with Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl….Not bad games at all, but these are the most lackluster remakes to date and played things WAY too safe. It's telling when Pokemon Platinum is still the de facto way to play through Sinnoh.

Re: Preview: Despite Low Expectations, Pokémon Pokopia Had Me Grinning From Ear To Ear

Tyranexx

This game is definitely on my radar and is one I will likely buy digitally. If I click with it as much as Dragon Quest Builders 2, I can see myself revisiting it randomly. Plus, it wouldn't surprise me if it receives content updates for awhile.

...But it will be awhile. I'm still Switch 2-less, plus $70 DOES seem steep for what we do know is in the tin. I nabbed DQB2 on discount but am unsure if I should expect the same with Pokemon Pokopia. Pokemon titles - even spinoffs - don't often go on sale.

Re: TIME Magazine Reveals Special Edition Pokémon 30th Anniversary Covers

Tyranexx

@Kiz3000 Ah. Either I missed out on this particular art piece at the time, or it didn't register in my long-term memory. Even if it isn't new, I do think that cover is still my favorite of the bunch.

@Dark_Isatari Not original art according to Kiz3000, but definitely newer and less used IMO. I've seen the other two images a lot.

Re: Pokémon Pinball Teased By Stern Pinball, Prices Start At $6,999

Tyranexx

I work for an amusement/gaming operator (Industry terms; amusement = what we call gaming, gaming = legislated gambling) and hope we pick up one of these and put it through some (cough) testing before installing it at a customer establishment. We DO test new or repaired arcade cabinets back in the shop on occasion. The last pinball setup was a pretty cool modern Jurassic Park cabinet. Depends on the technicians' schedules and what else is going on though.

I'm a software dev in a neighboring department, not a technician. But I have seen pinball cabinets worked on. While some of the price is no doubt inflated by the license, these can have a lot of custom mechanical pieces, moving parts, sensors, etc. and can be a pain to maintain. Unlike older machines, these also use modern video screens to display the numbers and action.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (7th February)

Tyranexx

Still playing:

  • Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake (Switch) - I sent Hargon and Malroth packing and rolled credits in DQ II yesterday. I'm now playing through some of the post game content. No spoilers, but I've learned doing so will be very much worth my while. 72 mini medals found.
  • Paper Mario (Wii U VC) - I'm at the beginning of Chapter 2 after storming the Koopa Bros. fortress and freeing my first Star Spirit. Currently gallivanting around Mt. Rugged looking for dropped letters. I am increasingly charmed by this game!

Happy gaming!

Re: Nintendo Showcases Every Switch And Switch 2 Partner Direct Game In New Infographic

Tyranexx

Pasting what I commented under NL's Partner Direct announcement guide yesterday, with minor edits.

  • Paranormasight: The Mermaid's Curse (Looking into the first game; I'm a sucker for mysteries)
  • Digimon Story Time Stranger (Yes! SW 1 physical with an upgrade for 2!)
  • The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales (No contest; I'm getting this sometime)
  • TES IV: Oblivion Remastered (If it runs well)
  • Kyoto Xanadu (Maybe; never tried this Falcom series and keep meaning to)
  • Tales of Arise (Still need to try this franchise; will try other backlogged Tales games first)
  • Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection (Liked the first game, still need to try 2)

Re: Oblivion, Skyrim And Fallout Switch 2 Physicals Will All Be Code-In-A-Box, Bethesda Confirms

Tyranexx

@AussieMcBucket I've heard the original trilogy is pretty good! I've only seen part of Raiders (a LONG time ago), so it's due for a full watch sometime. The only one the Internet seems to really pan is Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. But...I'd probably watch it at least once.

It looks like there are several games and books out there too, but I think - outside of the movies - I'll stick with this for now lol.

Re: Rumour: Xenoblade Chronicles Voice Actor Might Have Leaked Evidence Of A New Release

Tyranexx

@Sirko I much prefer Torna: The Golden Country's more streamlined experience over the base game. More focus on a smaller cast of characters, better mechanics (IMO), and some genuinely amazing areas on the Torna titan. Auresco's theme in particular is one of my favorite Xenoblade tunes. I even enjoyed the Community system for the most part.

I also agree they should have had more Blade appearance variety. Waifus are...fine, but they definitely oversaturated the Blade lineup with them. I would have liked more male and creature oriented Blades.

Re: Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase February 2026: Every Announcement, Game Reveal, Trailer

Tyranexx

I think this Direct is somewhere in the 7 range for me. Several games caught my eye, though we already knew about some of them.

  • Paranormasight: The Mermaid's Curse (Need to look into the first game)
  • Digimon Story Time Stranger (Yay! More Digimon!)
  • The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales (No contest; I'm getting this sometime)
  • TES IV: Oblivion Remastered (If it runs well)
  • Kyoto Xanadu (Never tried this Falcom series and keep meaning to)
  • Tales of Arise (Still need to try this franchise)
  • Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection (Liked the first game, still need to try 2)

Re: One Of The Switch's Most Underrated Gems Is Getting A Sequel This Month

Tyranexx

This definitely caught my eye during the Direct. Somehow I completely overlooked the first game! I plan to dig around to see if I should grab Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries of Honjo, but at first glance both it and the sequel look like games I'd enjoy.

Edit: According to NL's own review, the first game was showcased in a Japanese Nintendo Direct back in February 2023 but not mentioned in the Western presentations. Which explains a lot.

It appears the first game is also on sale for $4.99 on the US eshop until the 19th.

Re: Oblivion Remastered Is Adventuring Onto Switch 2 This Year

Tyranexx

A welcome surprise, but doesn't this have multiple performance issues on other platforms?

In any case, I'd like to revisit this game through the remaster sometime. I played a few hours of the original Oblivion on a cousin's Xbox 360 back in the day but never had the opportunity to finish it.

Re: Metroid Prime 4's "Combined Sales" Have Surpassed One Million, Nintendo Confirms

Tyranexx

Considering the game has been out for two months and is still charting, I'm not concerned; these are not lifetime sales. Metroid has always been relatively niche overall, though I do think Metroid Dread and the Metroid Prime remaster helped shine a modern spotlight on the series.

I have yet to pick up MP4 but do hope to later this year. I've decided to focus on my backlog for awhile.

Re: Upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Games & Accessories For February & March 2026

Tyranexx

@Grandiajet I do agree IX's setting did feel a little restrictive until later in the game (especially the Adol only prison sections), though I think it did contribute to character development and the vigilante vibe. I may be biased since I'm a huge Batman fan though.

I do hope we get some Ys news in tomorrow's Partner Direct, though I think the most likely info drop will be Ys Memoire: Revelations In Celceta since we know it's coming sometime this year.

Edit: Nope, this one didn't pan out. The only Falcom game that showed was Kyoto Xanadu.

Re: Rumour: Xenoblade Chronicles Voice Actor Might Have Leaked Evidence Of A New Release

Tyranexx

This clearly hints at something unless it's an editing error. My best guesses are a cameo or an overhauled/definitive edition of XC2. While I've enjoyed all the Xenoblade entries, 2 is the one that needs the most polish IMO. Especially when it comes to the battle system and how the mechanics are explained. I also had issues with the Blade gacha system and having field skills gate main story progression (I'm fine that they're in the game, I just think they should be optional).

I'd really love to see a new game or side game in the series as well.
