@link3710 Fair point lol. I'll admit it's something I'm less accustomed to on Nintendo platforms - at least with most first and second party releases - but I guess we're catching up to the rest of the industry when it comes to day one bug fixes and incomplete releases. Unfortunately.
While I am VERY happy for Animal Crossing fans since there's been a content drought since 2021 (I think), this has only solidified my decision to dip my toe into the series with Animal Crossing: New Leaf. I think all this new AC:NH content will smother a series newbie like yours truly.
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake for me as well, physical. Not playing it until I wrap up the main campaign in Pokemon Scarlet first though.
I may pick up Tales of Xillia Remastered in the future if I learn I enjoy the series. I should probably get to my backlogged copies of Tales of the Abyss (3DS) and Tales of Vesperia (Switch) first.
Between bugs like this - trivial though they are - and the fact that there's often a rerelease of Pokemon games with the DLC included (though I'm still slightly irked the Scar/Vi DLC bundle doesn't have all the DLC on cart), this is why I don't buy Pokemon games at launch anymore.
I'm glad this is coming to NSO; I'll finally be able to experience the game as intended when I get a Switch 2 and finally upgrade my NSO sub. I've only played the 3DS port since I had no GCN access back in the day. It's a decent game and worth a revisit. Though I'll admit I think the series has improved with each entry.
...I think I may revisit Luigi's Mansion 3 sometime next year.
Great review - definitely looking forward to picking up my discounted preorder tomorrow! Though it'll have to wait until I wrap up my journey through Paldea. I'm very glad I held out for the HD-2D Erdrick Trilogy remakes. If these are anything like my DQ III experience, they're well worth the wait. I'll be playing this on Switch 1 since it's my only viable option right now. It's not a game where the speed matters, so I can live with 30 FPS.
The problem with being "everywhere" is that you tend to overextend yourself. Which can really impact focus and quality.
I used to have major respect for the Xbox brand, especially during the 360 era. I never owned one but did have occasional access to a cousin's unit for the likes of TES IV: Oblivion and the first Assassin's Creed. I was seriously considering jumping into the ecosystem after poor college me got on their feet. Then...the Xbox One controversies started. I've felt the brand has mostly been in free fall since, with a couple grapple points thrown in.
Never thought I'd see Year Walk on a Nintendo platform after the Wii U. It's a very atmospheric game with an intriguing art style. I quite enjoyed it on the Wii U as my Spooky Season game one year.
@mouseclicker, @Gabe250 Ah, I see. I've never heard or seen the word used this way - hence why I left my comment open to correction. I was only familiar with the "excessively proud of oneself" definition. I learned something today, so thank you for providing context!
@JohnnyMind Seems like we both learned something new today. All the same, I appreciate you tagging Gavin for any potential corrections!
Glad I'm opting for a physical copy when I grab a Switch 2. It's been some time since I mowed down legions of Zelda baddies, so this will be one of the first games I pick up.
This is actually pretty close to my reaction when I read Sarah Bond's initial comment. Anything else I could say has already been said by other comments.
I've been in it for the collecting since the beginning. I occasionally do solo battles during events and the rare times I'm only with my phone when waiting on something, but it isn't a lot. I wish there was a way for folks like me to pony up pack hourglasses faster besides paying money or battling.
Also: "Worse, the cards from this set do not retroactively clear past sets despite being the same in every other way, meaning that if you want to grab those last few EX you’re missing to complete them, this pack is essentially useless."
This + the limited availability is why I stopped pulling from the new set. I'm not going to waste my time on it when there are permanent sets I still need cards for. Not to mention a couple of sets I have finished but still want immersives from. I don't need to collect every alt card, but I love the videos that play when pulling immersives. I know they're fixing this in the future, but it has soured me on the current set.
They also REALLY need to share pack points across older sets. I get limiting this on the newer sets, but it takes so long to pony them up it's insane.
When I'm not engaged in the game of Babysit Rambunctious Toddler Nephew some of Saturday, my limited gaming time this weekend will go towards:
Pokemon Scarlet (Switch) - 4 gyms defeated, 2 titans tackled, and 2 Team Star bases conquered. I'm really enjoying my gradual journey through Paldea, trying to explore where I can and thumping every trainer I come across. Yeah, the visuals are kinda meh at times and could use some polish - I AM playing on Switch 1 - but the gameplay loop and better story (My biggest Sword/Shield criticism) more than make up for it. Though I'll admit I prefer Pokemon Legends: Arceus's "open world" approach since this is admittedly almost TOO much for my "find everything" OCD.
Hades (Switch) - I'm helping Zagreus fight his way out of Greek Hell for Spooky Season. Some of you lovely people talked me off the fence for this one when it was on sale around the time Hades II launched. I'm happy to report I'm enjoying the game! The voice acting is amazing and complements the character designs and personalities, the game loop is addicting (Marathon sessions are out though), my Greek Mythology itch is getting scratched....No wonder this won several awards back in 2020. I've made it as far as Elysium as of this writing.
Happy delightful ransacking! I mean gaming. Yeah, gaming.
...Well, at least I'm ALMOST caught up on some of the older sets. Minus a couple elusive immersives. The rest of the alt arts are nice to have, but I only like chasing the video cards lol.
I feel like I should play more of the older games first. Especially since newer installments seem to go the open world route, from what I've read. I've enjoyed what I've played of the series so far, but I have to be increasingly picky about which open world games I buy these days....
I'll probably get this one on PC if I ever end up buying it. I find that storage medium easier to manage.
Lovely to see Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 pulling some crazy numbers, and even in such a short amount of time! They're two of the best 3D platformers of all time IMO. The first Super Mario Galaxy is still my favorite 3D Mario title.
Eh, if a remake or remaster shows, it'll show. If not....Well, my digital copy of Metroid Prime Trilogy is still available on my Wii U, so there's always that. Unfortunately that is no longer a viable option for many since the eShop closed, so they'll either have to track down the GCN original (for MP2) or the expensive physical Wii release/s of 2 (MPT) and 3 (Separate or in MPT).
I'll check out the sample when I have the chance. Might grab the full book when it's available (and slightly discounted). I quite like the Prime series, though I'll admit I also briefly got my hopes up at the article headline.
Both are not great, like this game. The Pokemon Dash of the N64. I finally went with Japan since the peace sign is at least a slightly better use of those uncanny Pika-limbs.
While I can definitely still access my DS library, there are a few games I missed out on due to evolving gaming tastes since then. Some of which are ridiculously expensive secondhand. Examples: Dragon Quest VI (Though it's possible this will get a remake or remaster before I get to it), Pokemon Conquest, and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. So I'd gladly try them on NSO if they appear on the service.
A friend and I are off shortly to a neighboring state for the day to play Rollercoaster Tycoon Live: End of Season Edition. There are some weather concerns, but the forecast indicates we shouldn't run into issues until we head back.
My Sunday back home is busier than usual, but I should have some time to continue my newly minted Pokemon Scarlet file. While everyone else is enjoying PL:Z-A, I'm diving into Paldea for the first time. Two gym badges earned and two titans defeated. I'm about to tackle my first Team Star base. Planning to start a new side game on my earned Monday off since I finished Kirby's Epic Yarn early this week, but I'm not sure what yet.
@gcunit I'm waiting for something similar. Not the only reason I have yet to grab a Switch 2, but a prominent one. A new mainline 3D Zelda or Xenoblade might push me over the edge, but we'll see lol.
Why do I actually like the idea of this? Not sure how I feel about the execution, but I suppose we'll learn more about that when the final product releases.
@KoiTenchi Eustace's character development did go a bit fast IMO, but to be fair he was basically coddled by Winner and (to a lesser extent) Gavelle earlier in the game. My impression was Gavelle was kind of in charge by offering Eustace advice and sometimes subtly directing topics and what he should do next. I always considered her more of a threat and the "rival", so to speak. There were some crazy narrative twists that kept me guessing, the majority of which I enjoyed. Ace Attorney definitely handles its rival characters well; I'm looking forward to what I'm in for in the future.
Yeah, updates can make completion weird. I get the idea is to entice us to keep playing, which isn't a bad thing. But when there are so many other interesting games out there, it becomes quite the balancing act lol. I agree that updates can make completion even more daunting. I didn't realize the 153 Master Trainer challenge was added to Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee in an update. I tend to play most Pokemon games a couple years after release these days since they came hard and fast for awhile. I just finally started a Pokemon Scarlet playthrough (almost to my second gym), and here PL:Z-A released today lol. I hope you enjoy your playthrough!
Regarding Pepper Grinder: I remember those collectible coins and loved buying all the stuff in the shops lol. I had no clue about that bonus level key bug and am surprised that hasn't been patched yet. I'm now tempted to check my file since it's been long enough that I can't recall if I bought that or not. Glad you were able to restart with few issues and 100% the new file!
Well, at least the Gardevoirite isn't locked to just the Mystery Gift distribution. It'll be awhile before I grab this game - longer than the time window. No FOMO to worry about in this case.
Eventually when I nab a Switch 2, but I'm good in the monster catching department for now. Not only did I recently start Pokemon Scarlet for the first time, but there are also other games in the genre I wanna try. Namely Monster Hunter Stories 2 (demo downloaded) and Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Complete Edition (backlogged).
@KoiTenchi You're welcome! It's possible there's a shortcut for the spoiler tags, but I'm not aware of one.
I thought the part about Eustace going to the dump and doing something himself - showing his determination - was a great look at his character development. It is possible the bones are hidden at the dump; I don't fully recall if the police were gonna fully go through the dump or not. About Excelsius: I think he was definitely evil. He could have course corrected whenever he wanted as he had the power but chose not to. Whereas Saint was a product of his circumstances. Funnily enough, I did notice that detail on the box art when I put the cartridge away! They shoved quite a bit on the cover lol.
Some games can be fun to 100% IMO, but others range from insanely long time sinks to do so to almost impossibly difficult. And I gravitate to some game modes over others. I realized I have nothing to prove by being a completionist outside of my own enjoyment, so it should fully be my decision to do so. Not a "have to". It's why I'm not the biggest fan of trophy systems due to FOMO and my collector mentality messing with me lol.
I wish in hindsight I'd waited to pick up Pepper Grinder. I usually pick up indie games on sale, but I enjoyed the demo and wanted to support the dev team. I really enjoyed the game outside of the boss fights, but I'll admit it felt like it ended just as it really got going. I felt the final boss was indeed tough but fair up until that moment. I think they also added more ways to keep the player from falling since I played too.
I'm...not sure how I feel about this one based on the impressions I've read so far. On the one hand, I like that it's more battle-focused/has an ARPG feel, changes up the boss battles (wasn't a fan of these in PLA), seems to continue not long after Pokemon X/Y left off, and brings Mega Evolution back to the series. On the other, the addictive exploration, lore, and past setting were huge aspects about PLA I love.
I suppose I'll have to judge for myself when the time comes. I recently just started playing through Pokemon Scarlet for the first time and think that'll more than scratch my Pokemon itch for now. Plus, I wanna wait to see if there will be a release down the line that includes all the DLC. I'm a little miffed they announced DLC pre-launch. This sort of thing doesn't help with the "rushed product" accusations.
@KoiTenchi I did notice you were being intentionally vague. Spoiler tags are easy; just type (spoiler)text here(/spoiler), but sub the parentheses for brackets.
To be fair, I don't think they directly said the bones were in the bag. But considering we know A. Winner was hiding in the Taurusaurus suit, B. Had that same bag we saw in the garage nearby in the video, and C. Unearthed what he was looking for, I think it's pretty safe to assume that's what happened. I agree about Chairman Winner vs. the "final villain" who indeed was a victim as much as a perpetrator - partially due to the former person. Winner also takes home the "Worst Parent of the Game" award for me, something that unfortunately pops up now and then in the series. As much as Eustace annoyed me at first, as the game went on it was easy to see WHY he was how he was. I really liked how they handled his character development. A well written character!
I used to be quite the completionist and will still do so if I really, REALLY like what I'm playing and want to put in the time. I at least try to reach the end credits in a game nowadays unless I really dislike it (Which is rare since I know my tastes better these days) but am less fussed about 100% completion due to limited free time. I did play and enjoy Pepper Grinder on the Switch, though it was short enough to feel like a tech demo vs. a fully realized game. There were a couple boss fights that frustrated me. I played it before they were patched however, so I'm sure they're more on the tough but fair side now. Notably the first bug-like boss (iffy hit detection) and spending time learning the final boss's patterns and getting my butt handed to me, only to FINALLY get it at one point before dying to a final blow in an ending sequence where that wasn't supposed to happen (also patched since IIRC). The exact patch notes for that: "fixed an issue where Naro’s skull projectile explosions could kill the player during the button-mashing event for defeating him". This led to an additional hour of attempts on an already late work night. Times like this, I feel no accomplishment. Only frustration. 😅
Sorry, but while I'll admit we've gleaned some interesting info over time from the Teraleak, I absolutely can't support it due to the fact personal employee info was extracted with it. Peoples' personal information, no matter who they are or what they may or may not have done, should not be in the hands of the masses. All it typically leads to is "mob justice" where lives can be and have been ruined. There are many stories out there of lookalikes, innocent family members and/or associates of those who SHOULD legally be punished (by the law) caught in the crossfire, or those falsely accused - but with no proof until it's too late - having their lives ruined through doxxing, death threats, or even worse.
@KoiTenchi Glad you also managed to beat AAI2! I too wish they'd went more into the body double's true identity. If I followed correctly, the real president's body was buried on the grounds of the then-orphanage in front of one of the planters, dug up in the present by Chairman Winner, then presumably the bones were found in that bag in his garage. Man was that guy a piece of work. I can see how Winner's evidence tampering contributed to Von Karma's downfall, but at the end of the day the latter was very much responsible for his own actions in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. I loved how each case was linked to each other. I honestly expected the game to pick right up on the smuggling group from the first AAI but was pleased it went in another direction - though the two games are very much related. I am glad there were no filler cases in this one. It'll be awhile before I finish up the Ace Attorney series (doubly so if Capcom does develop more!), but I might check out the Danganronpa series after I finish. I've heard of Murder By Numbers and think that's another game I'd enjoy.
I hope you enjoy watching The Eternal Diva! Not bad for a ~90 minute movie IMO.
We can both continue hoping for full VA work in Ace Attorney. I'm loving the series enough that I definitely plan to keep my physical copies around.
I will do time trials if I'm in friendly competition with someone (rare), but typically they stress me out lol. I like being challenged by games sometimes, but I primarily game to relax.
I think I qualify as an enthusiast. I think I've bought 7-8 games this year. A few indie titles, some retail games (usually on discount or with trade-in credit). Nothing at full price. This includes a current preorder.
I really pumped the breaks on buying new games the first half of this year. Due to various factors in my life, I've really had to reevaluate my spending habits, how I approach my hobbies, and how I use my increasingly limited free time. As much as I enjoy gaming, it can be a very time-intensive hobby. I'm busy enough as is; I don't know how some folks do it, especially those with kids to look after.
@KoiTenchi I just HAD to know how everything would pan out lol. I didn't hardly play anything else until I finished. There were some very good twists and turns, some great character development for several cast members, and a crazy showdown between two characters. I think I'll take a series break before starting Apollo Justice, but rest assured I'm looking forward to it.
I did see there's still an upload of Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva on YouTube, so that is thankfully an option for you.
Regarding AA voice acting: I'd heard the 3DS games had voice acting, but I'm disappointed to learn it's very limited. Hopefully there's a future update - like what Ace Attorney Trilogy is getting with additional languages and extras soon - where the entire series gets full VA work.
I'm admittedly not a big time trial person, but I do dabble now and then. I Interesting that those first appeared in DKL3; I didn't think they were added to the series until DKC: Returns either. Thanks to this conversation, I may revisit the two latter DKL games soon.

Should the first paragraph say "the core gameplay concept", or is there a use for "conceit" I'm unaware of?
Anyway, seems like this one is worth picking up in the future. I enjoyed both Katamari Damacy Reroll and We Love Katamari Reroll + Royal Reverie.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Definitely NA/EU since it's a better representation of the game IMO. Japan's isn't bad, just left wanting. I DO prefer Dark Echoes as a title though!
This game contains my favorite soundtrack of the main Metroid Prime trilogy. Hard to go wrong with any of them though.
Re: Book Review: Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective - Stunning Art, Though Lacking Context

Re: Pokémon Legends: Z-A First Mystery Gift Distribution Event Now Live
Well, at least the Gardevoirite isn't locked to just the Mystery Gift distribution. It'll be awhile before I grab this game - longer than the time window. No FOMO to worry about in this case.
Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting Pokémon Legends: Z-A?
Eventually when I nab a Switch 2, but I'm good in the monster catching department for now. Not only did I recently start Pokemon Scarlet for the first time, but there are also other games in the genre I wanna try. Namely Monster Hunter Stories 2 (demo downloaded) and Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Complete Edition (backlogged).
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (20th September)
Re: Review: Pokémon Legends: Z-A - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - Stellar Battles, But A Step Down From Arceus
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (20th September)
Re: Pokémon Z-A's Source Code And Beta Builds Have Now Supposedly Leaked
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (20th September)
Re: Final Fantasy VII / VIII Remastered Twin Pack And IX Physical Releases Confirmed For North America
Well, better late than never! I suppose it's a good thing I put off importing these for so long.
Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's SNES Library With Three More Titles
Our favorite loot fiend Wario has clearly played Skyrim.
Re: Poll: How Many New Games Do You Buy In A Year?
Re: Video: 11 Exciting New Games Coming To Switch 1 & 2 In October 2025
A fairly loaded month going by my interests, but the only game I'm picking up day one is Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (20th September)
Interesting that those first appeared in DKL3; I didn't think they were added to the series until DKC: Returns either. Thanks to this conversation, I may revisit the two latter DKL games soon.
